Be careful when ordering from Wiggle.I ordered some 50mm wheels from Wiggle and after 3 weeks they still aren't in transit. I asked Wiggle for a refund as the courier has lost them, and Wiggle says we have to wait up to four weeks for the courier to find them before you get your money back! For real. So yeah, just so you know, Wiggle won't refund you if your parcel gets lost by the courier. Buyer beware. I'm down $700, no wheels, and no refund.
Enjoyed the review. Have been a Speedgoat fan since SG2 and are my always-go-to shoe on any run, including 60+mile Ultras. Have to strongly disagree about the mud comment: Speedgoats are bad in mud. Great on everything else and well-worth the compromise on long, varied terrain runs. But they are bad in mud. Still not sure whether Tectons are worth investing but have just recently bought some Mafates (purely because of the deal price) although I am wary whether to make this shoe my race-shoe for the March Chester 50. Once again, enjoyed the review and keep up the good work.
The Tecton X is my all time favorite shoe. NOT JUST FOR TRAILS. its sooo good for everything :D even ran my PB 5k of 18 min in it lol Its my Race day, every day, easy road day, walking shoe of choice. That shoe fricking spoled me :D
Thank you for your review! There are so many options!!! I’m a peak bagger, some very technical terrain . Should I go for the Speedgoat ones? I have some hiking boots I can’t run in. I’m looking to switch to something comfy and perfect for that tech terrain.
Challenger 7 will see their logs destroyed in no time if used on the road and on slippery terrains (wet singles, wet road or even dry singles with a layer of dust) they just have 0 grip. Im a beginner hence the reason why I chose these ones but I'm looking for another model even though the stability and comfort are good.
Can you please review speedgoat 5 gtx with spikes for winter running. Winters here are very wet icy with a ton of snow. Or you could perhaps compare them to other winter running shoes. Thank you
Hi I am going on a 2 week trip to Borneo and need one shoe - not necessarily for running just for all day walking and hiking. What shoe would you recommend?
Hi ! stinson 7 or challenger 7 for injuries ? I have tendonitis achilles tendon, plantar aponeurosis pain + heel, pains in the anterior shins and tendinitis of the peroniers... Or they are the same ? I have the army soon
GREAT!!! Very professional and comprehensive exposure. Hope you do similar análisis for other top trail brands. Your presentation cleared all questions regarding Hoka trail thank god and you!!! Keep it up and I will inscribe awaiting other similar ones
Try Topo. Wider toebox, soft as Hoka, great reviews, multiple heel drop options, and less expensive. I love mine. As a family, we have Hoka Torrence and Speedgoat. We all hate Speedgoat and now just use them for walking.
Hoka are absolutely terrible for hiking, at least the SG5 are. 150km and the toe started to delaminate. 300 km and the tread was smooth to the point of being dangerous. So bad I think the outsole is a knock off. I can’t see how a shoe so bad for hiking could be any good for trail running. Would never put another pair of Hokas on my feet.

I Loved Hoka Mafate Speed 4..!!!
Thank you for the great review, I was aware of the purpose of some of the models, but now I have a clear understanding of the rest
Great overview of the latest Hoka’s! I found the Speedgoats too narrow in the toe box area, do the Challenger or the Stinson’s have more room??
They're all super narrow Ala European shoe style.

I LOVE my Speedgoats but can't wait to test out the Tecton X2

Thanks for the review. Will Stinson 7 be suitable for UTMB 100miles or is it going to be too heavy?

None - because they fit stork feet not humans unless you like squeezing the hell out of your feet.
They do tend to fit small. I recommend trying before you buy, half size up and wider fitting versions.
I've made that mistake before.
