Exactly. As someone having a 24" 1440p 165hz TN monitor, these look a lot more appealing now. The only thing I'm worried about is the subpixel layout and mediocre HDR experience (very few are close to true 1000 nits). If they nail those as well I'm sold.
I think matte coatings are horrendous in general. It's the reason why 1080P at 24.5 Inches is no longer the gold standard anymore. There has been plenty of great 1080P/240HZ monitors that basically went to waste. The sharpness on those displays would be perfectly acceptable otherwise if they had a glossy coating.

Wait, there coming out with a 480Hz 1440P monitor? (EDIT:) DisplayPort 1.4 only goes up to 355Hz at 1440P. I learned this when I got the ASUS 360Hz IPS monitor and whenever the FPS reached the 360Hz the monitor would go black for a second. I noticed it was a hand shaking issue between my GPU and monitor. Like switch inputs on a TV. Finaly, I did some digging and came across a wiki page explain the DP standard and DP 1.4 can only do 355Hz but DP 2.0 can go much higher. Until they make GPU (on the Nvidia side) DP 2.0 and the monitor DP 2.0 then 480Hz isn't going to work right.
@@badseedtech Damnit you made jump down a rabbit hole lol but here is what I found on the Wiki page. But, it doesn't come close to the 480Hz at 8 bit and that only gets ya 379Hz with HDMI 2.1b and 10 bit is 315Hz. HDMI is much slower than DP by a lot. Just look up HDMI standards and go to the wiki page and do the same for DisplayPort. Basically HDMII 2.0 will not even come close to the 480Hz. To get the full 480Hz on HDMI you would have to drop it down to 1080P. DP 2.0 at 1440P will get you 516Hz at 10 bit and 609Hz at 8 bit. If you go to the Wiki page, scroll down till you see the chart showing the resolution and Hz and above that in the text will tell you the standards of 1.4 and 2.0 and so on.
You’re not wrong, but you’re not factoring in DSC. HDMI 2.1 with DSC (2x ratio) will deliver 1440p 10bit at 480hz. DP1.4 with DSC (2.5x ratio) can deliver 1440p 8bit at 480hz.
Matt 4K vs Glossy 1440P in terms if sharpness? I recall a 1440p with a glossy panel looking as sharp as a 4K matte one even though the pixel density is different. Would love to see a video comparison like this one for that :-)
Do you think ASUS not showing the PG27AQDP at computex when they initially targeted Q4 2024 means they are doing revisions on the screen? Because at CES it was Matte, but they not showing what will be the highest FPS 1440p screen at computex and instead showing this one seems weird.
I have the Spectrum 27 4k matte. I dont mind the monitor for the pannel but I HATE the os/ui as well as how long it takes to go from 60hz to 120hz. And there is no way to turn off the auto-off feature. Glossy 4k oled is my next display but currently I wouldn't ever tell anyone to get the monitor. AND to top all this off I got it used in like new condition for half price with the stand. So you know... Also there's a issue that makes HDR not work well and have flickering issues with the PS5 - which they directly advertise as a reason to buy and as a primary use with 144hz.
I can't deal with reflections and and get eye strain with longer usage with moderate brightness (and glare) and glossy screens, sadly. So matte is default for me. Looks like a great monitor though.
Hey BadSeed...I need your help. I want to get into IEMs which I'm having trouble deciding on. But when I do I'm still going to need a decent DAC...and it needs to have mic input. The Schiit HEL plus seems to be the product but it's already 4 years old. Is there anything about to come out I should be waiting for? At the moment I have a working plan which is to get the Kiwi Ears Orchestra Lites, pair them with the Antlion Kimura mic, then plug it all into the Schiit Hel Plus. Mind you this is for gaming. What do you think?
Don't get the orchestra lites. They sound good but it's a pita to get a good fit because they are unvented. So oftentimes you will get that plugged feeling like you're driving up and down a steep mountain.
@SilverJoystix I want to achieve a superior audio experience with PC gaming. I'm not going to be satisfied with wasting money on an "entry level" pair of IEMs either. I keep reading and seeing over and over again how the Orchestra Lites have a superior sound profile with it comes to gaming so I've narrowed my focus on those....despite my concerns over their questionable comfort which I'm already aware. But I don't see anything else that approaches it's level of performance at the same price point. Although, the Intuaura Splendor 2 might be an alternative. Still, my eyes are on the Orchestra Lites.
I just got the LG 27GS95QE a week ago and it’s still within return range. The flicker in dark areas is really bothering me… would you say this monitor would be a better choice?
People who don't prefer glossy are really coping. It's so blatantly obvious how terrible matte coating is in games like Warzone where there's tons of small details at range. It just looks like terrible aliasing but it's literally the coating. It's nice there's finally a monitor that doesn't have the black raise or purple hue of qd OLED.
I want to buy an OLED monitor if I turn on my light on the ceiling I'm gonna get reflections? How you guys use that type of monitor if it's night outside? I don't like to play or work in a dark room.
QD-OLED isn't warmer. Its more accurate. The reason? Because there is no white subpixels ruining color accuracy. QD-OLED's biggest argument (TV SIDE) was showing off how well they could do GOLD which gives you pure gold, not washed out gold. So its not warmer, its more accurate. While color tuning gives you a good idea of color accuracy, it doesn't cover every single color the monitor will display. It usually picks spots on a graph and tries to make those specific colors match perfectly, doesn't doesn't mean every other color will be accurate which, LMAO. Its a good relation but not 100%. Which is why QD-OLED is more accurate color wise. I have my AW3423DW (first generation QD-OLED) at my desk which is next to my living room TV which is a Sony A8H which uses an LG panel inside.... and displaying the same movie/image on both, you can clearly see the monitor is more color accurate, both running "out of the box settings." Sure I can manually tune the TV and get it closer to the QD-OLED, but 99.9% of users out there are NOT tuning their displays. On that note, this display is you are reviewing is awesome. BFI is a huge boon for watching tv/movies/anime without the issues oled typically has with judder.... so yeah fantastic display. and right now its only 699.99. another huge win.
Hi, how are you? I have a problem if you could guide me. First, I don't know if the nvidia app beta is the best for this monitor or do I use nvidia expirience? Second, is it advisable to use Windows HDR calibration? I used it and it worked very well with shadow of the tomb raider in hdr, but when playing tomb raider (2013) in sdr it looked horrible, very yellow, especially the skin, this could be the fault of the nvidia app beta or the configuration of windows 11 hdr? No, its not. You'd want to use Displayport 1.4 if going to the PC and you'd be using DSC. The HDMI ports are primarily for console use on this monitor and can max out the console capability at 1440p (including VRR and HDR)

@badseedtech ive had a hard time picking a 1440p monitor, had a 1080p forever and finally im making a investment for better monitor, i play both fps and single player games and im looking for the best of both words. Do you recommend this asus monitor or are there better options for all games?
You doing a g6 OLED review?? I just got it and wanna see what you change the settings too lol
Glossy meeh. Forget using it as a computer monitor at day near windows. But the biggest issue is the dirty gray issues woled monitors have. Forget about using windows dark mode as all the darker shades will show artefacts.
im about to make the jump to oled monitor this year ive been gaming on cheap 4k 60 monitor for so long its time to treat my eyes
I was scared before I clicked, as I recently got a 360hz QD-OLED (glossy). Thought it would be a 480hz QD-OLED (glossy). Happy to see it's not that and I don't regret my purchase at all !
That being said : great review as always :) ! Been following you for around 5 years and I still love your reviews just as much (often watching them while I work and it makes my day !)
Thanks so much! Really appreciate the kind words.
All anti-flicker option does is limiting VRR range. from 120-240 to 200-240hz, which makes VRR pretty much unusable, so yeah...
I enjoy paying for features that don't work.
Basically the OLED monitor customer base as a whole right now.
@@DrakonR Yeah, better buy the LG 42C3 oled tv, it has more value than any monitor right now, and all the features actually work.
@@inceptionsd 100%. I'm taking back my PG32UCDM today. What a massive disappointment and shame on these reviewers for talking it up when it has serious issues.
Great comparison but one thing got me confused. @4:08 you say WOLED stays black but in the video it seems that QD-is the one staying black and WOLED looks more purple in my screen at least.
Oh man, good catch! The labels are incorrect in the first image. Its definitely a qd-oled on the left side in the first graphic.
@@badseedtech Cheers for the reply! It all makes sense now.
Basically asus had so many of these panels left over and not selling they decided to try something
i just purchased a samsung g60sd, was wondering if this Asus is better?
i hate that the 1440p 480hz is clearly going to be matte with the trash old stand 😢
Ikr. I want a 1440p 480hz glossy oled monitor so bad. Or better yet a 4k 240 and 1440p 480hz oled monitor that can toggle between the 2 like the 4k 240 and 1080p 480 monitor.
@@dodowzlooks like one comes out tomorrow
@@biskys6718 ???? Since when? What's the name of it?
@@dodowz i just closed the window out earlier, sorry! its an asus model thats supposed to go live today sept 4th, check on newegg on new/future releases, im pretty sure its a 1440p 480hz woled
Nice vid mate
These bots are crazy...
Hey badseed
What will you recommend for budget friendly dac/amp with xlr for mic and maybe speakers😅
Would you pick this monitor or the LG 27GS95QQE?
I prefer cutie Oled
You’re correct about DP1.4. The monitor will likely use HDMI 2.1.
Would love to see a video comparison like this one for that :-)
I'm probably missing something about refresh rate: higher is better no questions but you also need a graphic card capables to manage it, isn't it?
What game were using to compare the glossy and matte?
That’s Dying Light 2 - Great game
Do you think ASUS not showing the PG27AQDP at computex when they initially targeted Q4 2024 means they are doing revisions on the screen? Because at CES it was Matte, but they not showing what will be the highest FPS 1440p screen at computex and instead showing this one seems weird.
What settings do you recommend using for SDR?
Looks like a great monitor though.
yes woled no problem but qd oled problem with light
Yeah i was right.. guess glossy was right one at 1:30 .. GLossy is just based better
when is 480hz coming out?
Oled 4k 27" next year hopefully
@@vookie91 What if I were to go the extra mile and get the custom ear molded version?
4:54 it looks like they put a glossy finish on top of a matte one, but maybe its just the camera
I really don't get the hate the matte LG gets. I have it side by side with my old Eizo and the latter is way more matte.
Shame if it has any issues you have to deal with Asus support. Otherwise looks great
I have a 4080SuperGPU. Currently using an ASUS AQM 27inch 270 hz monitor. Should I upgrade to OLED 27 inch Asus 240hz? I play competitive COD mainly.
Seems like a fantastic screen but F Asus especially with everything GN has brought to light
I just got the LG 27GS95QE a week ago and it’s still within return range. The flicker in dark areas is really bothering me… would you say this monitor would be a better choice?
Sounds like VRR flicker which you won't be able to fully get away from. For me im use to it i know its going to flicker here and there
Does this monitor have the down facing red light at the bottom like last year's version? Just curious.
Nope. Stand is totally different.
@@badseedtech Thanks! Seems like a great monitor for that introductory price.
is there any protection features to prevent burn in?
yes
People who don't prefer glossy are really coping. It's so blatantly obvious how terrible matte coating is in games like Warzone where there's tons of small details at range. It just looks like terrible aliasing but it's literally the coating. It's nice there's finally a monitor that doesn't have the black raise or purple hue of qd OLED.
Whats the differences between MSI MPG27inch, AW2725 27 oled, and this Asus Oled
te msi and alienware are qd oled and te asus woled
I want to buy an OLED monitor if I turn on my light on the ceiling I'm gonna get reflections? How you guys use that type of monitor if it's night outside? I don't like to play or work in a dark room.
F... yeah glossy! Now please this in 40" 5120x2160 with 240 Hz!
Nice specs n all but what if u had to RMA the monitor
Thank you, finally a real reviewer comparing real things !! Not colors srgb delta absolute gama range and so on😭😭
Just bought one
Hi, how are you? I have a problem if you could guide me. First, I don't know if the nvidia app beta is the best for this monitor or do I use nvidia expirience? Second, is it advisable to use Windows HDR calibration? I used it and it worked very well with shadow of the tomb raider in hdr, but when playing tomb raider (2013) in sdr it looked horrible, very yellow, especially the skin, this could be the fault of the nvidia app beta or the configuration of windows 11 hdr? I use nvidia app beta or nvidia experience, and do I configure HDR with Windows 11 or not? thank you so much!
Is it MLA can we confirm this I heard wasn’t
Is the hdmi 2.0 is enough to transfer the 1440p 240hz vrr plus HDR with 10 bit? I’m a bit lost with this details but very close to order this monitor.
No, its not. You'd want to use Displayport 1.4 if going to the PC and you'd be using DSC. The HDMI ports are primarily for console use on this monitor and can max out the console capability at 1440p (including VRR and HDR)
@@badseedtech ohh that is not a good news. I heard dsc can be very visible. Not sure if it’s true or not. Also looking at the Msi qd oled 360hz but that has a very bad input lag on 240hz and lower
@@k1cs1m3a8nah man, it’s the exact opposite, you will hear most people say that dsc is visually lossless and extremely hard to tell the difference. It does suck that they didn’t use hdmi 2.1, but for console use it wasn’t necessary.
