      @@harvspecial5037 I looked into it, but unfortunately I think the answer is no.
      The power consumption of the 7800x3d is actually pretty much the same as the 7950x3d, at least during gaming. But the 7900xtx runs pretty hot and only has around ~70W less power consumption in practice than rtx4090; around 350W instead of 420W. It's too much for just one 240mm

      Yeah I used the riser that came with the case, though I've contemplated the idea to switch to a faster cable for that extra tiny bit of performance.
      To get it working, I had to boot into BIOS (using the integrated GPU) and override the PCIE gen to 3.0! On my mobo it was 4.0 by default.

    CPU: Intel I9 12900K (Kraken NZXT 240)
    GPU: RTX 3080 TI (any specific?)
    RAM: G.Skill 32 GB DDR5-6000

    SSD: 2TB Samsung 980 Pro M2

    • @sebastianmandrean
      @sebastianmandrean  9 місяців тому +2

      Hey! Thank you, happy you liked the build
      In small builds like this, it's very important to make sure you have enough space to fit your stuff. Research all components, make sure they will fit. Especially the the water blocks, fans, radiators, fittings etc. Even after maybe a month of research, I still had to return some stuff and rethink my approach, because when it's all custom things don't always go as planned.
      Re: your GPU I would first pick the smallest/slimmest water block you can find (for a particular type of card), then buy a card from a vendor that is compatible with that block. I think for a 3080 Ti I'd consider "Alphacool ES RTX 3080/3090 Reference Copper/Carbon with Backplate". Google it and check the compatibility list on their page!
      Re: Intel I9 12900K, I would have to warn you a little bit. They run pretty hot under load. I think something like 240W max TDP / 100 C degrees. Some people have tried to dual-rad 12900k + 3090 in some other similarly sized case (Formd T1), and it didn't go so well. 2x240mm just wasn't enough to dissipate all that heat, at least not with a 3090. Afaik 3080 has like 350W TDP or something? Together with the 12900K it's still quite a lot.
      If I were you, I would look into the much cooler Ryzen CPUs with significantly lower TDP. Some of them have like 65W TDP (Ryzen 7800). My 7950x3d has 120W base TDP, peak 150-160W so significantly lower than say a 12900K.
      If you insist on 12900K then you will probably at least need to reduce the power target of the 3080 and cut back a bit on the TDP. Check out @optimum's video "RTX 3080 / 3090 Undervolting | 100W Less = Same Performance?" here on UA-cam. Actually it's worth checking out regardless :)
      Rest of the stuff seems fine. Make sure that your RAM is compatible with that particular mobo. The fastest DDR5-6000 sticks are a bit picky with what motherboards they want to run on, so check the compatibility lists online. Oh and get some good PSU. 750W bare minimum but maybe 850W for some extra headroom if you can afford it
      lmk if you have any other questions! cheers

    • @sebastianmandrean
      @sebastianmandrean  7 місяців тому +1

      Hey, thanks!
      Using the setup every day, both for gaming and work. Love it so far. Both the GPU and CPU are kept cool despite heavy loads.
      What I liked the least is the DDC pump noise. I think DDC pumps in general are noisier? I tuned down the RPM a bit with a pump curve which makes it better. Maybe one could've squeezed in a non-DDC pump somewhere? But I'm okay with it after the curve tweak!

    • @lhbbq
      @lhbbq 7 місяців тому +1

      @@sebastianmandrean - Thank you so much! The noise of the DDC pumps is getting consistent for me. Right now I want to see if they have a Modultra 1700 cooler without the pump. And on the side insert a D5 pump. Right now I use a dual D5 pump, and I love it. For as fast they are going, they noise is not an issue.
      Thank you for sharing and keep up the great work.

    Do you still recommend this PC configuration, and if you do, are there any drawbacks or considerations to be aware of?

    • @sebastianmandrean
      @sebastianmandrean  9 місяців тому +1

      I use it every day, both for work and for gaming. Still works great!
      I think the 7950x3d gave me some extra headroom at work (software engineering) compared to 7800x3d so I'm glad I went with the beefier option. No issues with temps as explained in other comments. The case is beautiful look at & very high quality, almost like Apple made it, so I can recommend it.
      Re: drawbacks I think my main ones would be:
      1) The DDC pump is quite annoying/loud tbh, I wonder if there are more quite DDC pumps out there. But I set a custom pump curve which makes it a bit better.
      2) For controlling the radiator & case fans I use the Aqua Computer OCTO. Great hardware, but the software is Windows only AFAIK. So that sucks a bit when I'm mostly working in Linux. I have to figure this one out
      Lmk if you have any other questions

    • @sebastianmandrean
      @sebastianmandrean  9 місяців тому

      Hey! Hope it goes well for you. Be wary of the higher TDP of the 13700k, they run much hotter than Ryzens, up to 250W under load. But since 4070 has like 200W lower TDP than a 4090, it should be fine I think? If we're talking dual 240 rads. Don't think it's gonna work on a single 240...

    • @sebastianmandrean

      The loads I've tried are specific to my needs:
      - VR gaming (F1 22, everything at Ultra High)
      - Mafia 1 & 2 (4K, highest everything)
      - Compiling large software projects, running local Kubernetes clusters with 20+ Java services
      Everything runs fine so far, within spec and no experienced CPU or GPU throttling. Idle temps are low (30Cs). The CPU runs in the 70Cs in Mafia 1 (CPU intensive game) and the GPU in the 50Cs in F1 22 VR (GPU intensive). CPU throttling starts at 89C I think, so lots of headroom with my loads.
      I haven't tried loads that saturate both CPU and GPU to 100 % at the same time; it's typically high-GPU-medium-CPU or high-CPU-low-to-medium-GPU in my case.
      Additional tweaks that can be deployed to lower temps if your rendering loads go bananas:
      - Undervolt the CPU: ua-cam.com/video/BOdolaIDADk/v-deo.html&pp=ygUPcnl6ZW4gdW5kZXJ2b2x0

      Temps are stable around 55C GPU, 65C CPU

    Hi man, amazing info, thank you! Thinking about mini render station fo 3dsmax + corona render based on amd 7950x and looking for a small case like lian li dan h20, Meshroom S V2 or other similar. I'm not sure it will be cooled enough, cause i need 24/7 rendering at 4.8-5 MHz all cores and max AIO for those cases is 240mm radiator, means 2x120mm fans. How do you think is it possible to make such a tiny render station? Can I ask you to test your system in Corona 10 benchmark? I would like to know if temperature is fine under 100% load of cpu)) PC assembler i would like to order to assemble my next tiny render station told me that he had 95C on 7950x + arctic 420...

      Hi, thanks! Some thoughts:
      - 7950x runs hotter than 7950x3d. ~215W under multi-threaded loads VS. ~145W. Worth keeping in mind.
      - Will you only load the CPU, or also a GPU? If only CPU, its absolutely fine with just an AIO, since a 240mm one removes about 250W of heat. Could run 24/7. For 100 % CPU & GPU at the same time, you probably need more than just 2x240mm radiators.
      - AIO is convenient, but if you want to build a really tiny PC its worth considering a custom loop. Check out the r/sffpc sub on Reddit!
      - There are many tiny cases that fits 2x240mm radiators, but only if you go custom loop
      I ran the benchmark and got:
      Score (rays/s): 12 001 650
      CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 7950x3d 16-Core Processor
      CPU Frequency: 4 856,65 MHz
      CPU Count: 1
      Physical Cores: 16
