  • Hello and welcome. Ive been Doordashing now for about 3 months. I am really starting to get better. Watching doordash videos on youtube really helped me figure out what was worth my time and what wasn't. The comments on my first doordash video were also a big help.

    After 2 years of driving for doordash I have been deactivated by doordash because of an alleged “fraud.” They gave me zero details of what the alleged “fraud” was. I appealed the deactivation which they denied. I can appeal in 90 days however, I am no longer interested in working for doordash currently.

      All these fod delivery apps have one thing in common they don't care about the drivers! Us dirvers are the bottom dwellers, the sheep, and minions of the company. They only care about their bottom line which is their profits and the cheap non tipping scum bag customers that got money to order food but don't want to tip. These gig jobs offer no job security at all.
      You can be working for them for years and have good ratings and feedback and all it takes is a scum bag customer to call in and complain and one or two strikes your deactivated instantly! Happened to me working for UberEATS in eight days I got deactivated not to mention the app was always freezing so how do you expect me to do my job efficiently if your app doesn't work properly? Moral of the story get a real job lol!

    Doordash needs to stop giving people the option of not tipping. They also should not allow $2 tips because if you can't afford more than a $2 tip, then you can't afford the luxury of having food delivered to you.

      I agree. I am in my 2nd week of dashing and i am starting to think this is not worth it. I mean we drive to the restaurant to pick up your food and then we go drop it off to you sometimes bcz you’re too lazy to do it yourself and all you want to tip is $2 sometimes nothing. So frustrating. Ppl are so ungrateful

      @@notyourfriend5899 treat this as a side gig, and be very picky with which orders you take. don't degrade yourself with insultingly low orders you won't be penalized for slipping bad orders . like the other day I went to the grocery store, while I was in the parking lot I signed into doordash to see what I could catch. ended up doing 3 orders and made 30 bucks for a little over an hour.. basically paid for my groceries and only drove like 10 miles. doordash is awesome if you don't treat it like a full job. have your main job, and do this for an extra 100-200 bucks a week

    Contactless delivery was the best thing to ever happen to some people, they don't have to look you in the eye when they stiff you. Back in my pizza delivery days I rarely ever got stiffed because the customer had to actually see me as a human being and it's a lot harder for most people to do it to your face. Overall her advice is spot on. Accepting bad orders just encourages people to expect you to pay for the privilege of bringing them food.

      Well, just tonight I received a contract violation for not delivering a “hand-it-to-me” order, last night! Of course they won’t give me the address but did give me his name. I didn’t work long last night so his name stuck right out. I just wish I could find out what the address is as I would really remember what he looked like and all. It pisses me off they won’t give it to me bc of course I gave it to him! I’m pretty sure he was at the college. And I had to dispute it and “give them the details”. I asked, how am I supposed to give you details when you won’t even tell me where I delivered to!? I probably could have told them what he looked like.
      Furthermore, they show me on the GPS as being at his address! I understand some people have taken pics of food and taken it back with them but this was a hand it to me. And when they come out I ask them if they’re waiting for an order and then ask their name so they can’t pretend to be the customer. I don’t think it’s fair they make us give this info if they clearly see I was there. When the customer states he didn’t recover the order, they should contact them if they did it through the app and tell them they have the driver at their location. I’m sure they’d hang up and probably not do it again.

Once I picked up the order and see the real address....BOOM! 22 miles for $8.00. I called in and told them to remove this order and don't offer it to another Dasher unless they were going to pay them for an hour and the mileage. I asked the operator would they drive 44 miles and use up an hour of their time for $8.00....silence. They claim is the system and its algorithm, but I pointed out that a human wrote that algorithm and can make adjustments to the program...try again.

      I do $1.00 per mile for most orders...EXCEPT orders going 7+ miles. Then I prefer between $1.75 and $2.00 per mile...mainly because of the mileage and gas used...both ways. Especially if the order takes me out of my zone, because Im not a Top Dasher. Dont really care about going for Top Dasher so Im limited to my zone so orders that take me out of my zone I want to get paid for the miles there AND back. Now maybe others dont do this but its what I do in order to maximize my time and make the most I can. Ive been technically signed up since about April 2020 but stopped for awhile as I was getting unemployment and I figured with me being high risk for Covid I should just take the unemployment and stay home. Instead they have the biggest criminal enterprise going - OUR vehicle, OUR gas, OUR insurance, plus NO benefits whatsoever since they make you an independent contractor. In Europe they don’t put up with stealing from their workforce like that for one second. In comparison with other companies, I have less issues with DD. But as a customer, your tips for potential new dashers helps me know how to best treat them as workers. I do the 20% tip and most of my orders are over $20-$25 (sometimes up to $50 unless it's groceries then it's much more than that). I had a customer who never tipped and I'd delivered to about 5 times. He would always have me hand his order through either his ground floor bedroom or living room window. On this 6th deliver I delivered to his living room window. The room was dark but i could make him out in the dark on his sofa and recognized his voice. Delivered, no photo obviously. The next day I get a Contract Violation claiming I didn't deliver his order. To say I was pissed was an understatement. I called into Door Dash, filed a dispute on this claim, and decided to go get some photographs. His two windows are always open. As I approached the bedroom window during daylight hours I could see inside, same with the living room. On the sofa in the living room sat the bag I delivered his order in. I took pictures from outside and even called to him. He answered "Yo!" from his bedroom, but I couldn't see him. I asked him why he lied about his Door Dash order not being delivered....silence. I let him know I had photographs and would be submitting all to Door Dash AND the vendor for his food. I asked Door Dash to remove his address from being assigned to me. A week later...Michael B showed up on a delivery AFTER I accepted it. I delivered it. Short distance $4.75...actually had a small tip. Door Dash must be willing to FIRE customers to protect Dashers. The Contract Violation was finally removed, but it took a long time. Door Dash MUST act as our collective advocate. If Door Dash discounts a delivery for a customer, then this DOES NOT allow them to discount our services as contractors. I never agreed to such things. DISCLOSURE: Door Dash should be disclosing the service fee and tip BEFORE we accept or decline, this includes stacked orders by individual orders. Without this information, this disclosure, it makes it difficult if not impossible to know whether the order is worth our time and expense. By the hour option gives you the least amount of information. This is to slide bad orders by the Dasher. Door Dash will always make their money, but how they intentionally fail to fully disclose pay info upfront is their crime. The new contracts are doing all they can to take your rights away and make it more difficult to hold them accountable. They even try to eliminate our ability to participate in Class Action Lawsuits against them. I will also note that with all their most recent software updates and the problems we experience from this including not actually getting a chance to accept or decline an order, those numbers count against us. RULE #1 Never sell yourself short, know the value of who you are and what you do. RULE #2 See rule #1.

    It gets a bit more complicated as well with tips. You are correct that total - base pay is whether they tipped or not, but also DoorDash will hide huge tips. You can get a 7 dollar delivery (figuring out they tipped about 3 bucks), but upon delivery they could’ve tipped you 25 bucks. This exact scenario happened to me yesterday. The order said 8 bucks, and upon delivery it was 27.75. It’s not gonna be worth calculating. Just stick to your $/mile rule and hope you get lucky with a couple massive hidden tips. As long as it’s worth it before seeing the hidden part of the tip, it’s only up from there

    • @zachanderson9279
      @zachanderson9279 Рік тому +6

      @Tiffany Martin so when DoorDash presents you with an order offer, they will not show the entire tip if it’s large. For example the order may be 3.50 base pay, plus 25.00 tip… DoorDash will show you this order as 8 or 9 dollars (randomly there’s not a specific amount) so that people don’t jump on that order and scalp them. It’s to give everyone a chance for massive tip orders.

I don’t have the stress with pay by the hour because I’m still going to make the $14 an hour whether I sit at McDonalds for 20 minutes and only make maybe 2 or 3 deliveries in the hour. If I work 3 hours that’s $42 plus any tips and if that supplements my income each month and I get some exercise, making contact with fellow food service people and conversations and then some customers are really apppreciative of the delivery service and those are all pluses of the job. Sometimes the benefits are the bonus parts of a $$$ amount. Money isn’t always the most important part of the job….. less stress just do it and concentrate on the positive side as much as possible!!

    Sounds like you really do have it figured out now. Good for You. I was making the same mistakes when I first started a year ago. When I finally figured out that DoorDash is merely a broker and we are contract delivery drivers , I started making good money. Think of it like an independent trucker, he is offered a load from a freight broker , as an independent contractor, you make the decision whether the offer will be profitable or not. If not, then of course you make the wise business decision to decline. Also remember that your time is worth something as well , I find that some of these retail stores will ruin an otherwise profitable day by eating up a lot of your time if you let them.

I was so confused at what was going on and almost left both orders at the same business. When I confirmed the order I then realized that there were actually two delivery stops and had to go back and get it. Pretty embarrassing. IMO it can be dangerous for us drivers to try and look over a new order coming in, while driving. So yes, DD is being sneaky and slipping combined orders to us knowing that we're probably on the road driving and not paying close attention to their popup orders.

    completion rate is also important always try to finish any order you accept unless the restaurant is closed when you get there

    • @paulmackay7265
      @paulmackay7265 2 роки тому

      Oh for certain, but "technically" we are allowed to cancel one in five orders to stay at the 80% completion rate. But as I only accept orders that pay well I will generally do every order I accept.
      However, sometimes I will arrive and they will claim to not have gotten the order (meaning they ignored the tablet) and tell be it will be 20 minutes. Unless it is a massive tip I will cancel on that. Counting time to get to the resto, and then the time to delver that could mean 35-40 minutes on a single order. That is just not profitable.

    I do doordash as supplemental income. I work Friday night 5pm to 10 pm. Saturday and Sunday 10 am to about 7 pm. I make about 400 to 500 dollars during that time. I only take orders that pay 1 dollar or more per mile.

    • @ChattyKathy3
      @ChattyKathy3 2 роки тому

      So you are making 17.39 hr x 23 hrs = $400 or $21.74 hr x 23hrs = $500 (then subtract 30-35% for taxes ($120/$150) >your taking home $280 ($400) and $350 (500). Then subtract your cars wear and tear/maintenance/cleaning and gas ($80 off each 3 day Dash)
      So then your profit is $200 ($400) and $342 ($500).

    I think it’s important to go to big delivery zones maybe even more wealthy towns. You will get orders before you get back to your starting point. Also when I accept small tip orders I usually get higher tips after the small order and sometimes with small tips they will give you cash

    • @keithschaller576
      @keithschaller576 Рік тому

      Wealthy rarely tip well. It's a common misconception. But they realize they have to tip enough for you to come out to their remote mansion. Still not worth it in my opinion. There's no restaurants in those areas. Lose lose. And I never accept an order in the assumption of a cash tip. I can count on my 1 hand how often that has happened with hundreds of deliveries.

      The wealthy city near seat me is an hour away. Is it ok with doordash if I dash in a city far from my city?

    I just started my third week with DoorDash and this is so insightful! I get so many orders for $2.50 which is usual base pay for where I live, which I have accepted because in my mind, I'm like, "well it's $2.50 I didn't have before" but this is good to know that my acceptance rate doesn't affect me getting orders. It's frustrating taking an order 13 miles from my starting point to only get $2.50 base pay and $3 tip. OR often times not even getting a tip for making the 6-10 mile drive.
    I wish tipping of any sort was mandatory because I'm sorry, but gas is not all that affordable right now. It's frustrating as someone who is trying to make some extra cash and being the person who is making the effort to drive so much, when you can't even leave me a tip worth the time and milage it takes to get to you. I will start declining these orders thanks to this video because my city isn't big population wise, but it is for how large of an area DoorDash considers it to be. Thank you for posting this!

      Agreed it happened to me quite a few times..I just started 2 days ago..I accepted a Walmart offer said 5 bucks only a few miles away. Well I got there looked at it again and it was a stacked order. So I got 2.50 from each delivery, no tip. It was bs I had to deliver someone's groceries for practically nothing because it cost me that to drive there. I won't accept anything under 6, and it has to be only a few miles or less away. If it's 10 or over and it's like 3 or 4 miles I'll take it. I won't do Walmart ones though anymore. I found out people won't use spark because they have to pay more..so they found a loophole to screw people over using doordash because they don't have to tip you. But they for 2.50 they can walk their ass to the store and get it themselves. I find those type of people to be scumbags. Idc I'll say it and point it out. When asked why I declined, I say because 2.50 isn't worth my time or gas, and if they can't tip they can Shove it. I'm sick of people wanting everything for practically nothing.
