D1 all American defensive lineman in 2011. These numbers are close for me but I must stress non of these make you a good football player. LEARN THE GAME and Train insane. I knew a lot of weightroom all Americans that wouldn’t bust a grape on the field.
You got any tips for weight training that transfers to the field
@@BlackIungI’m no coach, but think of the movements you make on the field and the way you push, pull, turn, etc. So, power clean, squats, incline bench, flat bench, etc. to increase all those you also have to workout the various muscles groups like Tris, bis, lats, quads, glutes, etc. So skull crushers, curls, etc.
" I knew a lot of weightroom all Americans that wouldn’t bust a grape on the field."
Bingo.
And I know a lot of dominant football players who don't put up crazy weight room numbers.
Yea...ok
“Bust a grape.” ☝️☝️🤣🤣🤣🤣💯💯😃
Love seeing these benchmarks for athletes, it'd be fascinating to see how a d1 strength coach agrees/differs
Former d1 dline(within last decade), agree with these numbers for a prospect.
Same...
Where you at now?
30 and still get asked if I play football.
@@TheBigTerm Last time I visited my alma mater, they thought I was a recruit... I'd just turned forty at the time... I'm still in the same shape...
So dope. Also glad the deadlift was appropriately left out. In my town, not enough young athletes realize that they need to increase their emphasis on cleans and snatches.
Well....a big deadlift will drive a big power clean or power snatch. I think the power versions of those are better and more applicable to football and pretty much every sport but weight lifting.
Yeah, I played D1AA... I was a Nose Tackle on an aggressive slanting 3-4 Cover 2... We were a Top 5 Defense each year. My program outlawed the traditional straight bar Heavy Deadlifts... The risk reward was too high and they didn't want already strong athletes loading massive weight onto a bar and loading the joints for a lift that isn't needed to train the sport... Some guys were already strong and came from Powerlifter Communities in Ohio and Pennsylvania, so our coaches didn't want the egoes getting involved so guys could do a Powerlifter movement... We hard Hexbar Deadlifts and Good Mornings but those were always for double digit reps and sets...
I was a Captain a few times... I blocked Field Goal once, and I set the University Squat record at 635lbs... It lasted for eight months... Hahaha... That was over twenty years ago...
Weak
@@isaacwittinger8617 Where and when did you play???
We did lots of cleans and lunges. Hated em both lol
I just love how he starts it out right now and the echo bro my favorite UA-camr workout intro
I played D3 d-line, not even a starter. I could bench 405 raw. I would have been the strongest on the team except we had a former D1 lineman transfer in and he did 410.
I played OL and DL in high school. I was 6’0 160lbs. Benched 315lbs, squatted 450lbs, power cleaned 275lbs, had a 32in vertical and ran a 4.58 40yd dash. We didn’t do the other lifts for our strength test. And I can tell you that it sucked playing OL at that size lol. All the strength and speed I had didn’t help when going up against 225lbs+ DL 😆😆😆. But we didn’t pass the ball but 8-9 times a game and ran a lot of plays that had me pulling. Still, pulling and being the kick out blocker running full speed at guys 1.5x your size isn’t fun. But we were a small team and we won 2 state championships. So the coach knew what he was doing. Unfortunately for me, I wasn’t able to play any college ball because I was too far behind skill wise when going up again guys who played wr and cb their whole lives. But I did become an all American intramural flag football player at cb and qb/wr 😎.
Wow; I'm 6'1 162lbs¹... ....and your lifting totals are crazy.
---- ---- ---- ----
¹ weighed in just minutes ago
@@0-Elias-0both of you guys are wayyyyyy too light! 6'0, 6'1, 160???? Need to add 20 lbs n fast
this was a random video on my feed and it was awesome.
back in the late 90s when I was in high school we went to a football camp at a big school in Indiana. My crew was just a bunch of farm boys. I remember we were in the weight room loading up and the coaches were like what the hell are you doing with all the weights we were putting on and we were like oh we’re gonna get a lift and then they watched us just destroy things. They had no idea who we were and I just remember them saying we’ve had like powerhouse teams from Texas and Florida come in and you guys are smoking them in the weights. But they never gave us numbers and after watching this I now have a better appreciation of how freaking strong we were lol.
Can you do off ball linebacker next
3:54 hand fighting
5 second 40 at 300 plus is nfl level. Little high. On laser/grass
Cool numbers but they dont really matter as much as speed and actually being good at football. I was strong as fuck, big enough, but not good enough. I was 6'5" 280+lbs repped 400 on bench squat 600+ ect..
Yep.
There's a reason why powerlifters aren't playing in the NFL.
@@TheSBleeder Because they don't want to get brain damage from playing one of dumbest sports in history of humanity?
This isn’t a video about gym goers who want to be football players. This is a video about football players who want to get better at their position. So these are just tools to help you do that.
Did you watch the video or just not pay attention? He already said skill set and technique is part of the equation but strength does too. Even if you didn’t mention the fact you never got far I still could have pointed it out by the way you talk.
@@sbdftw1702 lol what?
Good stuff here. My son and I will download these ideas into our workouts
The Number one thing Boys is CAN YOU PLAY ???! Look up a Guy named Jevon Kerse he eas nicknamed "The Freak " and could BARELY bench 225 !!! Theres a thing called functional strength, not saying the weight room isnt most important ,just saying just because you arent Samson in the weight room doesn't mean you cant be successful !!!
Absolutely!
There are some guys who have long limbs and just cannot put up crazy powerlifting numbers. But they have leverage and they have great TECHNIQUE.
Everything I achieved in football was due to technique.
I worked hard in the weight room and had decent numbers, but there's a reason why powerlifting champions aren't getting tryouts with NFL teams.
Depends on the position. There are exercises that if you improve on, will have a direct correlation in improving your game.
Jevon Kerse has a RAS score of 10 also there is zero chance a 265lbs NFL lineman can only bench 225
@@guppy719 GO look at his combine performance on the bench then get back at Me .
There is no such thing as "functional strength". Either you can move weight or not.
This is fantastic. Can you do other positions? And also other sports? (Such as soccer, if the data is available)
ok im in canada just based off numbers do you think there would be a chance of joining an amarican team
16 years old
positions (d line)nose tackle (o line)right guard
555 back squat
275 bench press (injured wrist)
495 deadlift
2 missed blocks in 1 game
3 tackles when playing 1 quarter as d line
i much more prefer d line because i think its more fun and i know im better at d line im looking for more training ideas any tips are needed
What is the best age to start weightlifting in your opinion?
Why such a low squat in comparison to the bench?
All this if you have the frame for it, under 6 ft and 200 lbs and best skill set is for DE, jr college for you friend
Is there’s PR or reps? If reps, how many?
Coach,
I'm 6'1 165lbs... everyone on my team says that I'd be better off as a _Ballerina_ . It made me cry; cry-cry-cry! Now - after seeing these workouts - I feel totally overwhelmed. Yet, I wanna crush it like all my favorite linemen. I need some advice (ASAP)!!!
What should I do?!?!?!?!?
Be a Ballerina!!
Eat more protein. Intake more calories period. Get on a serious weightlifting program.
Do you have any idea on how to use barbells to increase strength and output for a martial artist?
Hello, are there details on the medball throw somewhere, in terms of required technique, and is it measured like from the standing spot/feet line, or from the point the ball leaves the arms (which would give shorter result ofc), or is it just throw any way as far as possible? Thanks
Can you imagine a wr putting up 400 on bench and aroung 600 squat. Burks does at OU. Freak
I was in the freak nature for every lift my senior year. As a RB though
I wasnt too far off in highschool. I did 270 on bench, 395 on squat and i think 240-250 on clean.
If i had better eating habits and sleep habits, i probably could have got much stronger.
I also should have kept working out during the summer.
Oh well, i wouldnt change anything and didnt want to play in college.
But i didnt weigh 300 plus pounds lol i was 210 :/
I believe it's GENETICS and work ethics.
Can u do basketball next?
Also bench press can help you lock your arms
This might sound pretty random, does the app do other sports as well?
The NFL is full of guys now that are huge, strong, and fast. And they're hurt all the time and technique as it pertains to actual football sucks lol
Underrated comment.I think the new CBA cut down on football time.
This is just not good advice.
There are guys whose limbs don't allow for crazy weight room numbers. But their technique and leverage allow them to be dominant.
I've coached high school players who got D1 scholarships to PLAY D-LINE who couldn't put up these numbers.
I already feel defeated. Im 13 and im only benching 170 for 1 rep. What are some good works to get my strength up?
Insane growth can happen between 13 and 18. Don't worry about 1 rep strength. Focus on getting stronger in all of the lifts, and make sure you're eating enough. Check out starting strength.
What about training your back?
what about middle school?
Amazing video. Would love the same with ufc fighters. Greetings from Austria
No deadlift?
as a freshmen right now I back squat 225 and deadlift 455 are these good metrics for someone at 210 especially cause we started around 3 months ago ?
Yes keep working hard
I'm a freshman in high school. my positions are TE, and DE. i can back squat 315 if i decided to ego lift(bad form) but with good form i can do 225, for bench press i only tried up to 165 so far with good form. i haven't tried anything else in the video i do split lunges with like 160-185 haven't done split lunges in a little while so i kind of forgot, my vert is minimum 32 i think cause i tried one of those vert boxes in walmart and i was able to clear that pretty easy. damn these o-line & d-line people really in the 280s? I'm 17 and also 175 pounds and 5,10. i just joined my team 3 months ago while it was off season and also just started working out 3 months ago constantly but lack motivation to really push my self during the workout times (not for the first time but i never lifted heavy before and only went to the gym like once a month or every other month with my mother so i just say i never trained before) Do i have hope if i actually put my mind to it not trying to waste my time even though its fun
Aye keep going . For motivation think of you already got the starting job and the coach is telling you that you can lose your spot if you don't bring your A game
I hope you have strength coaches who will stop you from ego lifting. Train smart, recover well, don't cheat the muscle out of controlled tension.
Also, as a youth athlete you have the benefit of still developing your neuropathy. Train a lot of ways, play more than one sport, and let everything cross train everything else. The older you get the more specific your training has to get. Train strength in a way that builds overall strength and train skills and techniques in a sport-specific way.
@@NathanNightingale yes i do i had to like ask like a lot of times if i could try it just to see if i was able to bend a little with the weight
@@NathanNightingale I'm doing this. I'm going to start wrestling pretty soon also
Are these one rep maxes or what???
Yes
No. He's saying that 17 year olds should rep 405 with perfect form
my first day of eight grade is in a week, im a right guard and i bench 235, squat 355, and deadlift 405. by sophmore year, i wanna bench 585. Is it possible??
Hell no 585 is impossible as a sophomore the world record 16 year old on steroids was 525 pounds only and he has stupid genetics but you could maybe bench 405 if you keep it up
I agree with Washedbog. I’ll add that your body frame structure and weight will be a big factor with your bench press and not getting hurt in the process. Assuming you are about 6 feet tall and 200 lbs when you graduate High School a bench press between 330 and 415 would be very good.
Do you want to be a football player or powerlifter with a strong bench? The training will differ vastly depending on which is your goal
@@Washedbog- not true. Theres been a few highschoolers who hit 600.
@@websurfer8670 nga he said 585 by sophomore year and you pulled that out your bum if you send proof someone did that then I’ll send you 100
Hey man love this video for something to try and work for in the future. I am currently in 8th grade playing d end but I am 135 lbs being 5'9 and I am the smallest, but fastest lineman with my 40 being 5.4. What do you think I should try and get my weight up to for high school?
im in 7th 135 and 5"5
Try for atleast 165lbs. Its easier to gain weight while your younger and getting taller
Gotta eat big to get big
only one that correlates with athletic performance is vertical jump. that's it. Rest is pagentry
Great goals…
5:25 what does clean do?
going into grade 11 y’all think i can reach this by the time i graduate?
how mcug do u do cyrrenlty
Maybe, maybe not.
Worry about becoming a great FOOTBALL PLAYER.
Weight room numbers are fine and all, but technique wins the scholarships.
Why didn't you include deadlifts/ trap bar lifts in this video?
because not enough people are doing them to be quantified (and in this case I think the TB is a useless metric). I do think a big DL is a great driver for a power clean though and should be done by football players and especially for linemen.
@@oggsmash9989 makes sense and why did i see u comment on another video lol
@@pixums I get rolling sometimes and leave drop comments all over the place.
They should be deadlifting. NFL non-contact injuries are the same as 20+ years ago. Ya'll neglect hamstrings and it shows in knee injuries
Power cleans are explosive deadlifts. I agree rdls are a needed accessory for knee health
I agree I tore my hamstring playing and now I work it in my split
@@PcCAvioN "Power cleans are explosive deadlifts. "
Power cleans incorporate both deadlift and squat motions.
You talking 1rm right?
Yes bro lmao
Very few High school lineman jump that high
you could be 5’6 220 pounds and hit those numbers , you completely ignore size
And god like genetics
Playing Devil's advocate here -- you're starting to see more ACL and lower body injuries due to Olympic lifting. The movements ingrain toes and foot pointing outward. If you watch a lot of ACL and Achilles injuries, the foot is almost always pointing outward, causing the ankle to collapse and the knee to fall inward.
Smart lineman play basketball too
None of this matters if you aren’t 6’ 2”+.
Aaron Donald is only 6'1. Really these numbers seem kinda low like maybe if you are 6'4 and athletic but pretty light and haven't filled out your frame.
Are there standards for this for grapplers? I’m a jiu jitsu purple belt and 42 years old.
CYCLE TROPICANA ORANGE JUICE!
Earl told me to ask:
Why aren't you doing it on the right side?
Also great informative video, and would like more videos like this. One thing tho... Do use both pounds and kg for those benchmark goals, so us normal people dont have to convert pounds into kg.
Same if you ever do a cooking video... do you gram, celcius, deciliter and so on as well.
We chose pounds specifically for this video mainly cause it is an American sport. We did not count for other countries that may also play it. We normally include both for international sports, but should have done so as well here.
Lovely, really good I would love it if there was a video like that for my position and my sport!
I'd love to go back in time.
How much you wanna make a bet I can throw a football over them mountains?... Yeah... Coach woulda put me in fourth quarter, we would've been state champions.
10:10 but can you do 5 seconds
@omalone1169 oh I ran a 4.7, maybe I do a 6.5 now. I'm still fit enough to play rugby with guys half my age, but a lot of that zip is gone.
I’m in 8th grade and just benched 315 paused is that good? And I deadlifted I I fink 465
Well your either obese or have been taking sarms since elementary school
C’mon man. These are absolutely bare minimum’s D1 schools look at.
Power 5 D1 is overrated, guys on the FCS and D2 are just as strong that's why they beat them in some games I played college football fs, and d1 and some pro trust me Like Shedure and Shilo said no difference between FCS and Power 5 its overrated I agree I know guys on the D2 level that would moo the floor in strength against D1
LT
Your weight better be at least 255 - 280lbs too or else you won’t survive in the real trenches
Also need to be natural. You can take an average high school player and juice him up to hit these numbers but he wont be able to play D1. There is a difference between natural strength and gym strength that's built on drugs.
lol 405 natural sure
Power Cleaning is SOOO BAD and leads to INJURY. I would NOT recommend POWER CLEANS.
