Really a beautiful bench! I have some western red cedar slabs that I want to make some benches from. Your video gave me some good ideas on how to go about making them. Thanks!
Excellent work. A truly beautiful piece. I just found your channel and subscribed. Thoroughly enjoyed your video. Keep up the good work. Nice shop btw.
Elegant and simple.... a very nice piece! I enjoy your channel. Thanks for the videos! ....I (respectfully) would offer a small suggestion that for me would improve my watching... I suggest putting a sketch of the piece to be made at the beginning of the video. It would help to better enjoy/see your process. Thanks again.
Looks GREAT Sean! Love the spalted and walnut combo.. a router sled os something o really need to make for the 3 slabs i got like 6 months ago. Thanks for the reminder.haha
Would it be possible to put the slab through a suitably sized thickness planer if I had one, rather than route the surface? Outstanding result. Thanks for sharing.
Sure. Just make sure you shim the slab so it doesn't rock by placing the slab on a long, flat board (like MDF or Plywood) and put shims under the gaps all the way around the slab to make sure the slab doesn't rock. Use hot glue to hold the shims in place and then slowly run it through the planer until it's flat. Then flip the slab over, referencing the flat surface and plane the other side.
+lauwykske typically the slabs are milled 2" thick at the sawmill and depending on the condition of the slab and how much you remove, you can get close to 1 3/4" unless the slab is really warped.
This is my favorite bench design thus far. The curves and spalted maple panels really set it off.. I have a butter walnut slab & would like to use this design. Unfortunately, the link to the cut list (required by shop instructor) comes back as Error 404. Is there somewhere else the cut list is posted? TIA
Lovely piece, but I thought the funniest moment was when you said you didn't have a draw knife...all the power tools under the sun, but no humble draw knife.
A wonderful piece to be enjoyed by generations to come! Great work, Sean!
Thank you! The owner loves it.
I really enjoyed this - I have a 3" thick slab of walnut that I will be making a sofa table out of. This gave me some more ideas of how to do it.
Nicely done video. Thoroughly explanatory with no wasted time. And a beautiful piece you made. Thanks!

Looking good. I love when the sapwood from walnut is used on projects. It gives the top a defined edge instead of just being a chunk of brown.
Thanks! Yeah I completely agree with you.
Excellent! One of my favorite live edge benches to date.
Thank you!
All those woodworking tools and no drawknife?! You've made an awesome bench here. Great work!
Yeah, I need to pick one up! Thanks!
WOW! Sir.....you do have one hell of a shop....
Thanks
Nice choice of lumber, nice work.
Simplest router sled I've seen. Love it.

Very good job. Excellent result.

Nicely done Sean. Try a flap disc on an angle grinder for the bark sometime. Quite messy, but gets the job done quickly.
Thanks, I will give it a try next time.

+Alejandro Bavasso Nepote de Quilmes I appreciate you watching.
Absolutely beautiful.
Very nice :) What router bit did you use to plane the slab? Also, please take better pictures of the finished project :)
Two words.. Love it!!
Nice work
Really good work!
Thanks!
I started watching this a few days ago & got interrupted. Just now getting back to it. Looks great! Did you thin the poly at all?
+Bruce A. Ulrich Thanks! Nope, I used the wipe on poly straight out of the can.
Nice shop! WOW !!
Great job.....total cost of lumber if you don't mind me asking?
very beautiful! Is the shelf needed for stability? I'm thinking of a similar design...do you think a similar design could work without the shelf?
Absolutely could. I only added it because the owner wanted one to hold stuff
thats a really nice bench I just wondered how do you know how thick the live edge slab has to be?
+lauwykske typically the slabs are milled 2" thick at the sawmill and depending on the condition of the slab and how much you remove, you can get close to 1 3/4" unless the slab is really warped.

Me fa piacere a guardar e il tuo lavoro
Beautiful,thanks
Thanks for watching!
Beautiful!
+jake devillier thanks!
Great video! I tried to get the free plans but it must have moved as it said error 404. Is there another place to find them?
Same here
Sorry for the very late reply, but I've fixed the site.
Nice clamps
love it!
Sei bravo é Ragazzo😉
Nice bench---
Thank you
Why not use the planer to flatten the slab?
Because the slab is larger than my planer. Plus I'd have to build a planer sled to flatten it since a planers job isn't to flatten lumber.
nice!
Im in Australia. Can someone please explain why you say 5/4" instead of 1 and a 1/4" ?
+Roman Dybala that's how rough lumber is sold over here at sawmills. We talk in quarters.
Thanks for the reply. The guy in the vid is sawing dressed wood as far as I see it. Interesting.
SUPERok Молодец!
Looks great
Thanks!
wow...wowww
Thanks!
Lovely piece, but I thought the funniest moment was when you said you didn't have a draw knife...all the power tools under the sun, but no humble draw knife.
Thanks! I don't own one because i've not needed one until this project. But, I will be buying one lol.
sexy design love ti!
Thanks James!
Way to fancy for my ability.... when I win the lottery I'll have tools like you do.... nice job tho
Thanks, but the tools don't make the piece. They only assist.
