My family comes from Cavite City and Imus and I’ve always loved my mom’s home cooking growing up. This brings back childhood memories and I really love videos like these that help to preserve Filipino culture and culinary history. Thank you so much!
My great grandmother was an excellent cook. Since I was the primera bisnieta, I was the apple of her eyes and was fed with the best. My lola Maria told me that Spanish recipes were only copied through taste while the Japanese commisioned cooks and taught them how to cook their food. American food, she said is simple. I have sanitized their words in describing the 3 colonial experiences. There are so many heirloom recipes that was lost. I wish I have them. I can only recreate my childhood gastronomical experience through memory. You videos remind me of those lost recipes. Thank you.
Love all the stories featured, to name a few the ensaimada, muscovado sugar making, the Aguinaldo shrine part. It's very inspiring. Halo-halo looks delicious 😋. Great video content 👌
This documentary brought tears to my eyes, perhaps because my father’s ancestors have roots in Cavite and the food and culture resonate deeply with me. Thank you for your thoughtful and respectful approach as always. And for the treat of hearing your pronunciation of the French word “terroir.” ❤️ I completely agree that Filipino food grown and prepared in the Mother Land tastes very special compared to the same recipes cooked in other lands. It’s all delicious, but food in the homeland is its own unique thing. Even the pan de sal can’t be perfectly duplicated. Bless you and your team, Erwan!
This is one of the most interesting ones I've watched on Featr. Such a treat! I've traveled the world, and have gotten comments from people saying how Filipino food is sweet and unhealthy. I was young, and my only response to them was: "where have you been eating in the Philippines?!" But I didn't have enough knowledge to back up my response because all I knew was my own family's cooking. Thank you to Erwan and everyone involved in Featr. I am learning so much about our own culinary history. Now my appreciation for the Filipino culture and cuisine has elevated, from the local carenderias to family-owned restaurants keeping legacies. I am hopeful that the new generation of Filipinos will revive the old traditional ways of cooking...
Thank you for featuring Cavite. As a Caviteno, this made me aware that there are lots of things to explore in my hometown before exploring other places. This also opened new ideas in preserving and enriching these traditions, especially the cuisine. Thanks for making a great content!
Thank you for bringing me back to my hometown Cavite city as a matter of fact Arnel is my classmate in high school, thanks for all the memories specially all the foods from Cavite City foods of Caviteno are very special. Thanks önce again… watching from Chicago ❤🇺🇸🇵🇭🇺🇸🇵🇭

30minutes into and I felt the rise of Filipino pride. I like the way you look into generational food business in Cavite, so much history you can never separate the food from its past. These was your best episode by far. Glorified. ☝️
Thank you for the feature on Chabacano! As a Cavite City native I only learned to speak our dialect a few years ago and now so desperately hope it comes back to our city. Muchisimas gracias con ustedes para este documental de niso ciudad y provincia!
Badly wanna learn this language but I don't know where to start. I grew up and am still currently living here in Tanza but I came from a Visaya lineage (Biliranon) and I can already speak some Visaya so my next target is Chabacano to honor the province I lived most of my life in. Any idea where to start?
@@wzwzwz Hello! I can send you resources to learn chabacano. But in keep in mind that it's the caviteño dialect so it's comprised of only spanish and tagalog :)

Thank you for featuring our beloved province. But I’m kinda sad because you were not able to reach my hometown, Alfonso. It’s the town next to Tagaytay. We also have great dishes there and very good bibingka, putong puti and suman.

Gastronomy really starts in one's own home. It is not rooted in the carinderia in a baranggay but has its foundations in the home. A lot of families will whip up food that will not make it to being commercially famous, but you know that a certain family cooks superb adobo, or the most amazing menudo or calandracas distinct with that certain family. The problem there is how to immortalize the legacy of these cooking if one were to remain conscious of not letting fastfoods overtake family cooking. The tradition of family recipes should be kept alive. And one has to make the conscious effort.
Bravo Erwan! Loved all except for the ensaimada part where the bakery uses margarine sadly, not real butter. Margarine is a processed food, made of hydrogenated vegetable oils full of unhealthy trans fat that are known to affect health negatively and are highly inflammatory. Margarine also contains additives such as artificial colorants, emulsifiers and fillers. Perhaps you can make a video using real butter what we can follow at our home kitchen. Thank you for all your valuable (and fun) content showcasing the culinary map of the Philippines.
