This song is great bc it transcends James’ experience - no matter how strict or lenient one’s parents - everyone has had times - sometimes entire lifetimes - where they felt some of the feelings reflected in the lyrics and overall tone of the song.
Back when high-speed dubbing tape cassettes was a thing, one of my best friends made me a copy of this "album" and it became the soundtrack for my bus ride to school everyday in 7th grade. Coming from a deeply religious background it echoed so much truth, and led me into my path of better understanding the world; and allowed me to be angry at the parts I saw to be false. I will forever be grateful to this album and especially this song, and I'm so glad you're finding it and hearing it for the truth that I felt so long ago as an "out of place" teen in a world of religiosity... wondering what was really real, and deciding to question it
I love that you are laughing throughout this whole song. It proves without a doubt you are 100% honest and real in your reactions! Thanks Alex, its a blast watching your reactions.

This album, IMO, is their very finest work of all albums they produced. Every song drives hard, the lyrics are vibrant and meaningful, The riffs, the riffs under the riffs and even the drum arrangements are quintessential.
It's not over. You still have all of Kill em All, Ride the Lightning, The Black album, Load, ReLoad, Garage Inc., S&M #1, St Anger (If you feel its necessary) Death Magnetic, Hardwired to self Destruct, S&M #2. So no, it's not over yet. And LuLu

My parents split for the last time when I was 9 after 5 different attempts at trying to make it work that just made it harder for me to live with out them this song in a nut shell puts my feelings into song form.
ah yes thank you for starting with the ending of To Live is to Die 🤘 This song hits hard for us who grew in religous suppression. Im just starting to deal with the trauma my chruch and family forced on me growing up. The entitlement, the one-way respect, and freedom of robbing your child of anything you didnt provide them. Dont wish this upon any child. Anyone who grew with this kind of trauma please reach out to anyone you can talk to Stay metal, Stay free
Dude sorry to hear when people get church forced upon them. Hopefully that hasn't turned you off from God completely. God is real. Jesus is real. And He loves us all. Don't want to offend anyone. Just hate to see people go through what you did. Give God a chance I hope. On your own terms.
People out there can never avoid this world and what it offers, always temptation which we all fail to. Parents who think they can drag their kids to church to avoid the world's issues obviously dont listen when they attend..its impossible. Knowing is better than not knowing, seeing is believing but can't see anything if one don't look. Its easy to fall, hard to climb back up, no one wants to work hard when they can simply fall. Dragging kids to church without any knowledge of what the world offers can be dangerous cause ones who fall like sex addicts, drug addicts, thieves, heart broken, killers that want change are within the churches to rightfully know understand the meaning of what Christ teaches. Like a hospital that house the sick, the church house the broken. If a church dont have any of the above its probably loaded with false, lost, judgemental, selfish, wealthy people with a moral checklist of what makes them feel good. These people drag kids or other non willing people along to fit their view of clean visually rather spiritually to fit into a worldly society where praying is actually wishing. Moral therapeutic deism. James parents were probably a mix of both, those that understand the lyrics probably had the same treatment, just differently.
Never understand that, my nan used to go to church, I did as a little kid. But I stopped, my mom said to my nan, that we'd choose our own path when we were old enough. So we did, heavy metal and rock music, it's the best religion. Me, my sister and brother are all metal heads. The more intelligence, the less religion.

Why do I love it so much when I see someone else enjoying Metallica for the 1st time, like he does? Dyers eve hits so close to home for me as well pal. Right here with you Alex! Rawk on 🤘
The irony of this album is that if Cliff hadn’t died it wouldn’t have existed, so in a sense Cliff guided them still from up above to write this masterpiece. Anyway, we were here with you on this journey but it wasn’t unselfish for most us, we were here as well to relive our first time listening to this and for that we thank you, 30 years later I got to re-experience with the added bonus of cherishing much more now, I didn’t realize it back then how special this moment was. Thanks again Alex. As to the overall lyrics of the album this is post Cliff, the band was still grieving and you sense it. Cliff was like the angel that came in between Jaymz and Lars when it came to song writing and without him the pure aggression of Jaymz with the technicity of Lars just blended into this f****ing powerhouse of an album. Like I said, this would have not existed with Cliff. We all miss him and wonder what would have been of Metallica with him.
I love it all. It’s my favourite Metallica album I think, despite its flaws. That said, Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets and ...And Justice for All was a 4 year stretch in the mid 80’s and they were all majestic. Now they don’t put out one album in 4 years. There’s something to be said for hunger and just going for it.
I'll say this. I used to be a Metallica freak some 12 years ago, and they were by far the MAIN reason I started learning the guitar. I was a smol baby teen back then, and I loved the entire catalogue back then - Death Magnetic had just come out back then. The only exception was ...Justice. The songs on this album always seemed too complicated, all over the place. I have been avoiding ...Justice for the longest time. But, Alex, your reaction chain has made me realise what a gem this record actually is. I guess I just wasn't mature enough back then to appreciate it. Yes, I think that's the right word. This album is very mature. Compared to the straightforward riff'n'thrash of the first 3 and, on the other hand, slowing down the pace starting with The Black Album - this is Metallica's most complex work, and being currently a deathcore consumer, that's exactly why I dig ...Justice now. Hey, better late than never!
OMG I was waiting for this song so long 💥 killer song with a killer guitar solo and I won't even start talking about James' ability to writing lyrics 💯🔥💥
For the RIDE THE LIGHTNING ALBUM, could you possibly pick videos with the lyrics in it for the people in the back who are experiencing greatness for the first time as well. Thank you Alex.
This album has gotten me out of the darkest time in my life when I felt like there was no up and I thought about just ending it but this album just got me out of there especially One and Frayed ends of sanity. This album means the world to me and when I saw Metallica live and they played One I burst into tears. Listening to them is one thing but then watching them and listening to them live performing a song that got you out of darkness truly is a once in a life time moment
An onslaught. An onslaught. Been a fan since I saw them in 85. And I must say this is probably my favorite song and I think it might be the quintessential Metallica song. Melodic and brutal and emotional lyrics. Great reaction!

This song is great bc it transcends James’ experience - no matter how strict or lenient one’s parents - everyone has had times - sometimes entire lifetimes - where they felt some of the feelings reflected in the lyrics and overall tone of the song.
Kirks phrasing in this solo is awesome
Absolutely fucken love watching you young guys appreciating what we grew up with. I relate to this song & have done for almost 40 years!
Ride the Lightning would be nice even its not in the right order but it should be done cause its metallica best album in my opinion
Agreed 💯💯💯
Yesssss Ride the Lightning ⚡⚡⚡
RTL is my favorite Metallica album ....and possibly fav album by any band ever
The moment I knew he felt it was the side to side head bang at 7:58 . It's a natural movement. He can't help himself.
I really like that you listened to the end of To Live Is To Die before Dyers Eve. It’s the proper way for this song.
Thanks Alex, its a blast watching your reactions.
thank you so much for checking out the videos! :) you are the awesome one!
My personal favorite Metallica album. Hit me when I was about 12. Fell asleep many nights listing to it. Made those early teen years make so much sense. To this day 30 plus years later still hits home .
Same... I was 14. 45 now
I was 16 when this came out. I experienced what the song is about. This song and this album are a part of my being. It's been a blessing to see you experience it new... you're a good man Alex
This album, IMO, is their very finest work of all albums they produced. Every song drives hard, the lyrics are vibrant and meaningful, The riffs, the riffs under the riffs and even the drum arrangements are quintessential.
Was waiting for this one. Shit blows me away every time I hear it.
*Stands up and applauds*
Bravo!! Between your stank face and my flashbacks, well....I am so excited to see you review this whole album.
Love you, man.
And LuLu
Tru
You forgot lulu
@@raphaelstanek Damnit!!! 🤬 lol. Thanks I just edited the comment and added LuLu lol
Im not one of those "metallica was only good up until the black album" people but i fucking hate lulu
@@RandomPerson-ui3xv Same, love almost everything Metallica has put out...except St. Anger and Lulu. Props for experimenting, but the execution was just...not good.
Yea you’re slowly becoming my FAVORITE reaction page. You actually took the time to edit the last 30 seconds of “To live is to die” to make sure the reaction was complete. No other reaction channel has done this that I’ve seen!
Love this song the lyrics riffs guitar solo and those kick drums double bass
I saw them play Dyers Eve at the Forum around 2004 or 2005, was supposedly the first time they ever played it live.
And! How was it?
DYERS EVE! Probably the most aggressive and angry Metallica song!
Might easily be. Agreed.
Fight fire with fire entered the chat.
@@fronthorse Yes, but Dyers Eve has the most angry lyrics, so that's a plus
@@fronthorse trapped under ice has something to say
@@german2501 the lyrics are more relatable than the hellish dystopia from Fight fire... Mayberry that's why.
When it comes to sound and aggression for me Fight is the maximum. Dyers Eve is brilliant and among my favorite 5 Metallica songs. 88 when I was 13 this album was my introduction to the band and it blew me away.
Edit: what's a mayberry?!
The riff right after the solo is one of the best riffs they have ever made.
Totally agree !
When I was 15 I had to do an English assignment on poem or lyric. I used this song. My English teach was NOT as impressed as Alex
i had the same assignment but i used "To Live Is To Die"
Props to you brother for having the balls to do that.
@@mgk207 ayyyyeee
@Deadlock T that’s what I used. Those 8 lines
I remember having a similar assignment and using “Countdown to Extinction”
thankfully, he was a cool teacher and was still only mildly amused.
James best vocal performance hands down. ❤
the scariest thing is to know that the lyrics of this song is what goes on in James’s mind. Until today ..
This album was a POWERHOUSE and a game-changer to a high school kid growing up in 1989. Changed my whole music perspective.
PLEASE Ride The Lightning album next!! 🤘
This album is amazing from start to finish!
My favorite part of you loving And Justice For all, is that you are studing in Law. It's a match made for you :)
My parents split for the last time when I was 9 after 5 different attempts at trying to make it work that just made it harder for me to live with out them this song in a nut shell puts my feelings into song form.
Been checking YT all day for this.
you are awesome!! :)
Same😂
The most underrated Metallica song ever. Love this song.
I am here, right now, watching this. Now it's time for you to do Ride the Lightning.
Dyers Eve is a kick in the teeth. It's damn good and a perfect end of the AJFA album.
Please do Ride The Lightning next.
ah yes thank you for starting with the ending of To Live is to Die 🤘
This song hits hard for us who grew in religous suppression. Im just starting to deal with the trauma my chruch and family forced on me growing up. The entitlement, the one-way respect, and freedom of robbing your child of anything you didnt provide them. Dont wish this upon any child. Anyone who grew with this kind of trauma please reach out to anyone you can talk to
Stay metal, Stay free
I'm starting to see someone with the similar stuff your going through. Much respect.
James is a lyrical genius
Alex. Love these so so so much. You gotta do kill em all full album. Ride the lightning full album. Then since you've done puppets and justice, move to the black album 🤘🏻🤘🏻
I'm so happy you included the last bit of "To Live is to Die". Most of us die hard Metallica fans heard this long before the days of streaming, and when the CD goes from one to the next ... it's magical
Exactly. We didn't know when the songs ended and begins until CDs came out.
Great album, great year for heavy music.
I was 17 years old when this album dropped, wow!!.
Still as passionate about heavy music now as i was then, its in the blood.
Love your channel man,
Love from the uk.🤘
Ride the lightning and for whom the bell tolls are my absolute favourite songs from metallica, to the point the bell tolls is to be played at my funeral.
RIDE THE LIGHTNINGGGG
I'm so glad you let the song before play first because the transition from it to Dyers Eve is sick!
Ohhhh, how I have been waiting.🤘😈🤘
Edit: RIIIIIDE THEEEEEE LIGHTNING
Powerhouse of an album... For sure, this album is perfect, no bad or boring song. Dyers' eve is the best one on the album imo.
Thanks for the Love Brother
the frayed ends of sanity has to be my favorite metallica song of all time (this comes from a guy in Chile with a fucking metallica tattoo on his shoulder)
much love to you bro, for allowing us to go along with you in this ride!
Why do I love it so much when I see someone else enjoying Metallica for the 1st time, like he does? Dyers eve hits so close to home for me as well pal. Right here with you Alex! Rawk on 🤘
you're the man dwight! much love brotha!!
RIDE THE LIGHTNING NEXT!!! FULL ALBUM!! 🤘
We've been telling you that's the best song on the album.
On the best album they made they saved the best for last!!
"tear out everything inspired" love that small line
Best album of all time. Cover to cover.
OMG I was waiting for this song so long 💥 killer song with a killer guitar solo and I won't even start talking about James' ability to writing lyrics 💯🔥💥
before i finish watching, the fact that you cared enough about what people said to actually listen to the fade in makes me smile.
For the RIDE THE LIGHTNING ALBUM, could you possibly pick videos with the lyrics in it for the people in the back who are experiencing greatness for the first time as well. Thank you Alex.
my fav. song on the album is definitely the title track. Simply unbelievable. Still gives me goosebumps whenever I listen to it!
Alex PLEASE do a Peace Sells album reaction!!!
Ya. That's a great Metallica album for sure!! 🤪. Sorry. I had to. 😃
by far the best album ever in my eye's , every song is a master piece. i was 16 when this came out and it blew my mind , and chicks loved " one " :P
Dude, you are such an honest guy, I love your reactions and that you are so genuine....
ayyy frank! i appreciate that my man. thank you
Thanks for the reply man, no doubt I would consider you a friend in real life (and I do not have many) ....just from music alone bro!
