Lars has said so himself in interviews he doesn't practice and has gotten worse over time. Its not age. Its laziness. Many drummers much older than him can play stuff way faster than Lars ever played.
Really? They couldn't play the intro? I understand why they wouldn't play the intros to Battery and Fight Fire With Fire, but why not Dyers Eve? There are no extra instruments, and it's relatively simple.
There is no intro to this song. What you're thinking of is actually the end of the song before it on the album which To Live is to Die. They played the entire song in that respect!
Anthony Kartsev Download an mp3 of "Dyers Eve" or buy an ...AJFA vinyl and skip to "Dyers Eve" and that intro will still be there. Want more proof it's the intro to the song? Why else would they play it over the PA system before the song started?
The way this song erupts at 45 seconds is just amazing! It grabs you by your throat and just punches you in the face. They should play this live more often :)
@C. Doom Schneider yeah. He's playing,g triplets with the kick drum. It's still double bass. Double bass and playing triplets aren't contradictory. In fact, he'd have to use double bass to play triplets because no one can play that fast on a single kick drum.
I just remembered how impressive it is that James plays that riff after the solo AND sing the lyrics. He does is it all the time, but with this riff it seems a little harder.
The Extinct Surgeon Doesn't stop bedroom drummers from playing it. But Lars, a professional drummer for over 30 years with the best equipment that money can buy...thinks he doesn't need to because he is famous. That is the problem. So many drummers could do what Lars does better and so much more, because they work so hard. Lars thinks "I'm famous" and lets his abilities slide.

Arturo Fuenmayor You guys are nuts. I listen to their first 5 albums every other week, MoP and Justice are not this fast, there's a clear rushing here.
It's just disappointing to some that he's not blasting on the double bass during the verses like the album version... In some alternate universe there is a Lars Ulrich that always applies himself and is never complacent, and is widely regarded as one of metal's most influential drummers. He would be soo damn good if he was more motivated to practice/get better. Starting with the Black Album but mainly on Load is where Lars started to simplify his drumming. I mean, listen to ...And Justice For All drumming compared to Load, it's like two different people.
One of their most brutal songs. Friggin love it. Didn't notice Lars wasn't doing thr double bass in the chorus until halfway through. A little sad, but still love METALLICA!

Hetfield may not be able to sing as well as he used to but fuck man, that right hand is like a hammer - as good as it ever was. Tight as hell...
Everybody is complaining about Lars , Metallica give 2-3 hours concerts, and the drummer is the most exausthing instrument there, i´ve heard "Dave Lombardo still plays like 20 years ago, same age as Lars.." yes, but the Slayer concerts are 40-60 minutes or so, dont fuck with Lars.
Shut up u dumb
Slayer sets are 90 minutes minimum.
@@christiandown seen them twice, that's false.
Lol, how long ago? Their 2019 tour was 90 minutes.ua-cam.com/video/PC-bKq8YJAU/v-deo.html
Well tbh Dave is by far a better drummer....
one of best Metallica's songs ever
With James' current raspy vocals right now, this would sound really good live.
Lars has said so himself in interviews he doesn't practice and has gotten worse over time. Its not age. Its laziness. Many drummers much older than him can play stuff way faster than Lars ever played.
а Ты не думал что Ларсу и не нужна практика ?! знаешь есть поговорка "что быстро делается то слепым родится" ))
Roses are red
Violets are blue

The replies should be too
Kameron Ulibarri yessssss
Even still he uses double kick sparingly cos it apparently fucks with his back and legs
Yeah it does fuck with your back and leg if your technique is poor. Something you can prohibit by practicing. xD
When a song gets better the louder you play it, you know it's good.
Really? They couldn't play the intro? I understand why they wouldn't play the intros to Battery and Fight Fire With Fire, but why not Dyers Eve? There are no extra instruments, and it's relatively simple.
ČYLDЯØN ΔЯ SĪN BΛT ΔЯ NΔT HŒЯD
There is no intro to this song. What you're thinking of is actually the end of the song before it on the album which To Live is to Die. They played the entire song in that respect!
Anthony Kartsev
Download an mp3 of "Dyers Eve" or buy an ...AJFA vinyl and skip to "Dyers Eve" and that intro will still be there. Want more proof it's the intro to the song? Why else would they play it over the PA system before the song started?
just stop listening to metallica if you keep on complaining man. they really dont care.
Wrong. So very wrong.
these people are so lucky to get to see this song live. they havent played it that much in respect to the other ...and justice for all songs.
Where's the double pedal Lars?
Or need technical
***** just remember that they play like 2h each gig
***** They don't play over 2 hours and they're 2 different people.
***** Not so much for the money when he has enough to live 10 times.
waw jonne Actually its more like 3 and a half hours
Jesus christ. They pulled this one LIKE A BOSS in here. Amazing. Nailing any song of this record is btilliant homework.
No porque me canso :''v
-Lars
The way this song erupts at 45 seconds is just amazing! It grabs you by your throat and just punches you in the face. They should play this live more often :)
Ayee at 4:21 i see you Lars with those triplet bass kicks ;)
@C. Doom Schneider yeah. He's playing,g triplets with the kick drum. It's still double bass. Double bass and playing triplets aren't contradictory. In fact, he'd have to use double bass to play triplets because no one can play that fast on a single kick drum.
C. Doom Schneider When you try to prove somebody wrong but just make yourself look like a dumbass
@@brandonivey9973 I mean he's not wrong.
When James slicks his hair back like that, his voice is fucking amazing.
😄👍
amazing lyrics! James you are the best!
Definitely in my Top 3 of Metallica favorite songs!
20 years after they made the song and Lars is still banging those drums mercilessly....
I just remembered how impressive it is that James plays that riff after the solo AND sing the lyrics. He does is it all the time, but with this riff it seems a little harder.
this is one of the best metallica songs
I wish they perform this live more. Hell of a song!
I think James' singing is pretty good on this one
The fact that bass is so audible here is fantastic and I proves how fucking good rob is as a bass player.
that riff after the solo, why so badass??
Just they did not play it like studio version :(, still good though.
straightfoward thrash with a rhythm that hammers it home
Can we please have a video of just Rob playing the bass? Holy christ, he's so good here. Finger picking the WHOLE fucking song like a complete boss.
These guys look really old today but they still rock very hard! Metallica Rules! The Gods of Thrash-Heavy Metal
They don't play Dyers Eve live often
Ronan Slevin toughest metallica solo and toughest metallica drum beat (stamina wise its fucking hell), and well hetfield can play anything
Goabnb94 ok
Ronan Slevin Yup!..'Cos it's a pretty challenging song to play..not guitarwise, but for Lars the drummer.Back then,Lars was quite a competent Metal drummer..but well,he has slackened alot over the years after the "..And justice for all" album.so I think Lars is now trying to get back in shape(his drumming).lol!\m/I'm NOT saying Lars is an awful drummer..NO..it's just that he's aging and has fairly slackened in his drumming for the harder, heavier and faster Metallica songs, that's all.I fucking love ALL the old Metallica albums, particularly "..And justice for all."\m/\m/\m/
That's because they could never play it with Jason. It sounded like shit with Jason.
And let’s all thank Rob Trujillo it’s been said that he’s pushed for many of the classics that weren’t played much to be played more since he’s been in the band 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
Heard this song at their show at parc des princes on the st anger tour, amazed at how they could still pull this off and yeah kirk is great with the solo
People are talking shit about Lars, talking good about James vocals and Kirk’s solo...
is anyone going to talk about Robert’s performance??? He played this with fingers!
One of the best metal tracks ever from the best album ever played by the best band ever!!! Awesome \m/. No argument..
Otlichni svetlinni efekti, a myzikata i teksta i izpalnenie-poveche ot klasa! ❤❤😮😊🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤❤
Blackened and Dyers Eve the best songs of the album!!!
My 2 favorite on the whole album, great taste bro
you mean, after One ?
I agree, after One
@@user-ih5jr8rt5q no way. I honestly don't understand the hype about this song. Sure it's a good song but for me personally not even a TOP 20 Metallica song, based on my taste of music. For me "One" is too lame and boring except of 1 or 2 minutes of the song. Just my personal opinion. I know many other Metallica fans think different.
@@Destruction-1990 wellyeah if you don't actually like dynamic music and are just in it for the fast heavy thrashy , that makes sense
I recommend the band Iced Earth
@@user-ih5jr8rt5q for example, I love "Fade To Black", much better than "One"
Everyone: following the tempo mentallly
Lars: MY HEADPHONES TELL ME GO
My band cover Metallica song for more than 10 years, and still we hardly could play this live in a smooth proper and powerfull way.. They on their ages deserve a huge credit for this live performance...
Thank you for this upload, saw them at least 15 times through my youth, never seen them play my favorite!
Absolutely love that song one of the most underrated Metallica songs ever.Kirks solo is unreal
Always was one of my fav non-single if you will, tallica songs that yes..shoulda been preformed in seattle. It's a high energy song
Lars really shines in this song.
NO !!
not really the main verse is double bass and he doesnt do it.
@@Felix82 Chorus*
He sounds like he's changing speeds here and there...audio not clear throughout...same for Kirk's solo.
I wish they would play this in 2024!
Que buen tema suena muy bien metallica no pierde sus raíces. Desde Buenos Aires Argentina un fuerte abrazo
Double bass double bass.
Complain complain.
Just enjoy the song, people.
God, I'm glad being a pleb.
yes, enjoy this guys, they still play live and they still be the top metal band
Yay someone gets it 😂
One of Kirk's most technical solos. Yet. he needed no wah...
That bass tone is glorious
Once per week I come here to make my day better watchong this raw priceless masterpiece live. Thanks for doing that back in 2009 guys.. simply nailed it 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🔥🔥
Lars, Lars... Poor Lars...
Hahahahaha
rich Lars
fuck you estupid loser, great perfomance
Not a bad performance but it is an incomplete one. This song requires double kick, one of those iconic double bass songs in their catalog and it is not the same without it.
Why the hate far Lars. Did he fart in your face or something?
Age is no excuse, Dave Lombardo is the same age and still playing like 20 years ago
Not everybody ages the same way.
And every drummer in the world is same as Lombardo. Thank God that he still can play like that, but not everyone can be beast at young AND old age. Someone's amazing while young, but due to age, gets worse. I'm not defending Lars, he isn't practicing like before, and why should he tbh? He's got nothing to prove, you are the vocal minority that is shiting on him, he still sells the shows.
Plus it's not like Lombardo is touring a fraction of what Metallica does.
yeah but dave plays 50 shows per tour, lars plays 300
Yeah and he's an exceptional jazz trained drummer... and probably takes crystal meth from time to time.
@3:45- James "Waaaaah"
Kirk- Yes
Kirk you nailed that solo dude!!!
I don't care what everyone says. This sounds fukn AWESOME. I'm glad they played it. And at least Lars is using his bass pedals. Come one people it's not 1989
Victor Sanchez what
That’s why they keep putting out thrash cuz none of you dickriding fans care about a good performance you just wanna pay to see Metallica spit on ur face
@@adrianfong5783 Are you high?
people love to hate on Lars
I love these guys but I don't understand why they're rushing so much in their live performances of the past 10 years.
Kirk's fingers get tangled and he screws up because Lars is going too fucking fast even for the album's version! This isn't cool fast, guys, this is too fast fast.
That's normal speed
its normal speed.
Arturo Fuenmayor You guys are nuts. I listen to their first 5 albums every other week, MoP and Justice are not this fast, there's a clear rushing here.
Pretty much @196bpm. You are wrong
This performance seems to be fairly normal speed, but yes, this is a common problem with them live.
probably my favourite Metallica song....very nicely done!
Was lucky enough to hear them perform this at Knebworth in 09. Highlight of the set
Everyone always blasting on Lars he kills it here!!
Lars is doing the double kick in this. You can see during the second verse and you can hear it. Lars is and will always be the man.
Are you deaf :), he did not play the most important double bass that goes during the verse, he changed a pattern/beat.
He’s not
The little 2 second part he’s doing it is NOT what we were wanting to hear
He’s a very good drummer, no one else could sound better for Metallica
One of their most brutal songs. Friggin love it. Didn't notice Lars wasn't doing thr double bass in the chorus until halfway through. A little sad, but still love METALLICA!
Absolutely awesome!!!
I'd like to say that Lars is a monster here. You discredit him way more than he deserves. He did amazing, give him that.
Wow, Metallica show her real talent, they should play this song more on concerts. Kirk nailed the fuckin solo!
Kirk, the fucking god
absolutely lovely. I hope you read this kirk, because I want you to know how much I appreciate your playing, even though I'm a rhythm player and idolise James.
You're an absolute legend in my eyes and always will be till the day I die.
I felt that, amazing!
Just impressive!
Sounds amazing. Lars' double bass may not be exactly the same as the album, but to claim this is a poor performance from him is asinine. It's a great performance from everyone.
Lars was awesome here
Wow this is the 1st time I’ve heard this one live. Very tight!!
Nice job fellas hope to hear it in Minneapolis in 2024
Before covid Metallica was playing a ton of shows a year alot of wear n tear on lars shoulders arms back and legs. It's amazing that he can still play these songs. Just appreciate it while we can
