This was the first song I EVER heard from Metallica.
It was 1985, I was 13.
And after all these years I have yet to pick my jaw up from the floor.
Same bro.
It changed my life
Yeah, same with me, I was 12 and afraid of this sound...hahaha!
Same. I just listened to it a minute ago and then came to this reaction, and my jaw was also on the floor
I could only imagine how fucking cool was the sensation you felt at that moment, fucking dope 🤘🏻
The same, only 1984 and 14 hahaha
The whole ride album from start to finish is amazing. Give "escape" a chance it's a severely under appreciated metallica song.
It is interesting, but also the facts that it was a last minute addition to the album that James doesn't... appreciate because they half-assed the song
Escape is a good song. Trapped Under Ice too. My problem is with Ktulu, I think it's the worst song talking between the classic Metallica albums. (Kill em All - Black Album)
@@german2501 not the worst song at all , i think the worst song may be ..none
@@KAlexanderTheGreat yeah I remember watching a video of James singing it live he hated every second of it ! Idk sometimes artists can't appreciate their work because of the high standard they hold for themselves. And I get that, but the song has held up well for its age. And I love it I know I'm not the only one.
Actually, in my country, when the album was released, Escape got heavy rotation on radio stations.

With out a doubt
The leap Metallica made from their debut album (Kill 'Em All) to this album is insane. It's like going from building a well-made grocery store as your first project to building the Empire State Building.
And then building Rome with the next 2 albums 😂

He has actually reacted to Creeping death before, but i doubt he remember lol
He's reacted to fade to black as well, but was watching a Saving Private Ryan video for some reason lol. I hope he listens to it without the video so he can focus on the music
TRAPPED UNDER ICE
Kirk's high point on the album IMHO
@@DarkReturns1 I said the same thing about One. He reacted to the music video both times. I was hoping he would react to song only when he did the whole album. The video has too much movie dialogue in it that takes away from the song.
Keep in mind when you listen to this, they were just kids here. Like 19-21 years old! The skill they showed off at such a young age is incredible!
That is true man

Ride the Lightning is honestly one of the best metal albums of all time and noone can argue about that!
They can argue, but they’d be wrong.
Musical taste is subjective, so there is no best or worst....
For me, it's Metallica's 3rd best behind AJ4A& MoP. When you say Metal, if you mean Thrash, then you're definitely right. I'd put in 7-10 in my top 10thrash, but if you mean just Metal, for me that muddies th water too much! I have to think about those old Sabbath, Dio, Priest, Savatage, etc, etc..records & it makes by brain hurt! Thrash Metal though, easy top 10!🍻
Want to know which one is my favorite? None. No favorites. I love em all, before load, that is.
Best Metallica album. Ever. Mustaine helped write all of it.

We all go through a Metallica phase. So I love this
Edit: Its so cool seeing these replies. As a 13 year old who got into Metallica when I was 8, these bring me so much joy
I'm still in mine, I still listen to Metallica almost daily. Been listening to them almost daily for the last 20 years.
Some of us never leave that phase of life. 🤘
My Metallica phase has been going on for 14 years.... i think it's more than just a phase hahah
It hits me probably once or twice a year and I'll go on yet another binge through the pre-Black stuff. I imagine that'll keep repeating for the rest of my life lol
Phase? Maybe you were just PMSing. There's no Metallica "phase"; psch.
(I'm joking-- but still)
5 years ago upon only hearing Enter Sandman and Nothing Else Matters, a work buddy let me borrow his original 1984 CD of this and was my first full Metallica album experience and as soon as I heard this song, I never heard anything like it and the obsession began
I first heard this back in 1985... i wish you could have heard music back then... what was considered heavy at the time... then hear this for the first time... Fight fire with fire is still my number one favorite song considering I was born in the early 70's and grew up in the height of fear of an all out nuclear attack 😣😥😮😰😲🤤😨😵😱💀☠
The absolute jaw drop when the solo hits gets me every time
My favorite Metallica album. Trapped Under Ice is their most underrated song. It’s criminal it isn’t played live consistently.
Their most underrated song is Escape for me :D
Trapped under ice is actually my favorite Metallica song
Trapped under ice is probably up there with blackened and master of puppets for me. It by far their thrashiest track, and a criminally underrated track
Yeah, i LOVE trapped under f***ing ice
Its criminal those assholes didnt play it in Antarctica
You know this means the next album to react to is Kill 'Em All, right?
I want him to react to kill em all then black album then death magnetic then his Metallica experience will be complete
im so afraid that he'll pick St Anger LOL
Kill 'Em All but as a whole album reaction, its my favorite to listen to from start to finish
@@Todrick451 If yall actually consider yourselves true Metallica fans, you would realize that St. Anger is actually a pretty good album but yall are only fans when it suits your best interest unfortunately. Bro, one of the best double bass lines by Lars. Most people think of One but this line has so much consistency needed and is much more prevalent than in One. Also it’s basically a drum solo at the same time.

it was only just over a year ago, i’m 15 years old, and the first songs i heard from Metallica were in this order: Enter Sandman, Master of Puppets, then Fight Fire With Fire.
Like, i mean enter sandman and master of puppets were absolutely amazing, but when i heard fight fire with fire i was absolutely mindblown. that song was the first really thrash metal song i wver heard. fight fire with fire still gets me today in terms of it’s raw power and thrashiness.
Your lyrical analysis skills are clearly honed from your Hip Hop background, but it's been cool watching your music (as a whole) appreciation skills improve. It's clear that you really get it, from the way your head nod changes with different aspects of the song and the way you react to certain skills the instrumentalists are doing.

My favourite album. They were still so young and brimming with raw power and angst!! This for me was the evolution and birth of Metallica from the garage band of kill em all 🤘
One of their most brutal songs ... so perfect. My favorite off of RtL
Alex! Something to keep in mind when reviewing this album: Ride the lightning ('84), Master of puppets ('86), and ...And justice for all ('88) form a trilogy of sorts. On each album the first song starts with a calm but misleading instrumental before blasting away 100mph (Fight fire..., Battery, Blackend). After this each album has a lengthy, kick-ass title track (6min, 8min, 10min). The fourth song on each album again starts slowly, kind of sounds like a ballad at first, but then speeds up towards an impossible guitar solo at the end (Fade to black, Sanitarium, One). On an LP (vinyl) format these songs are the last ones on the A-side of the album (Justice might have been a double LP, so in that case last track on the B-side). Also, each album contains an instrumental (Call of Ktulu, Orion, To live is to die) that's among the longest on the album (9min, 8min, 10min).
Some additional things to point out. Master of puppets and Justice both finish with some of the fastest songs in the bands catalog (Damage Inc., Dyers Eve), while Ride the lightning ends with the instrumental. Ride the lightning and Master of puppets have tracks that are clearly about the Cthulhu mythos (Call of Ktulu, The thing that should not be), whereas Justice has not. Also, the first two albums have a perfect number of songs (8), but Justice has an unpleasant number of 9. All amazing tracks though!
Anyway, cheers! Keep up the good work!
ps. Something for us metal historians to keep in mind: Iron Maiden made a "trilogy" of their own with Powerslave ('84), Somewhere in time ('86) and Seventh son of a seventh son ('88). The last album being the most progressive of the bunch, same with Metallica. I think it's safe to say that both bands were in their creative peak at this time.
And they went back to that format for Death Magnetic, which was a nice way of signaling a return to form.
@@booeyc Agreed. Death Magnetic and Beyond Magnetic are so good, it is a shame that they get overlooked by those who say that everything Metallica did after their 1st four albums suck/complain about them not returning to their original thrash metal sound.
@@asmodai2025 Yep, that always bugs me too. Hardwired is also great. Spit out the Bone is one of their thrashiest songs.

Hell yes. International relations were on a knife's edge in the early 80s. The original cowboy diplomacy.
