Dyers Eve is a good song, but IMO their best song is also from ...And Justice For All, called Frayed Ends Of Sanity... The sheer flex about time control and math, both in tempo and notes is amazing... but only music geeks would understand. Tempo changes makes you feel like going crazy. And the solo is amaaazing.
This is the ultimate "we all went off" type song. Lars is riding the drums, Kirk is going ballistic,James is yelling at his parents, and poor Jason is over in the corner not realizing Lars unplugged his amp. Fucking banger song 🔥🔥🔥
It was the closing track - not the opening act. Blackened was the opening track and is just as fkn hard! This is one of the greatest thrashy metal song ever!
Dyers Eve is the one Metallica song I always recommend reactors listen to, it's easily one of my top five songs from their classic era. I was an angry 13 year old skater punk when this came out in 1988 and this song perfectly encapsulates the rage I was feeling toward my parents at the time.
I was 13 years old when this album came out and I will never forget when I first heard this song this song embodied everything I felt at that moment in my life. I'll be 49 in January and I still love this song this is one of my favorite Metallica songs ever! Thank you for actually listening to this song 🙏🏻
You struck gold, sir! This is one of the many, many hiden gems amongst their albums. Love the lyrics, and the fact that this little grenade comes towards the end of a technically sophisticated album.
Have seen them 5 times. They don't ay this often. At one of the shows, they came back for their 4th encore after a 3 hour set and played this song last. F-ing killed it. Soo good live.
Hell yeah!! And Justice For All is still my favorite Metallica album despite the mix. I saw them on this tour in 1988...Killer!! You must do an entire album reaction! 🤘
It was 88, Justice had not been released yet. I remember it feeling special that they were playing something that wasn’t released yet. Saw that tour in Miami, where there was a stadium wide food fight
Justice is a great album and the closest they ever got to playing prog metal. But it isn't a lot of people's favorites simply because the 3 before it exist. But there are a lot of good songs on the album. A full reaction would be awesome!
That’s a weird thing given ajfa is objectively their best album and KEA is probably their 3rd worst studio album. “A lot of” ? Widely agreed to be their best album.
When i first got into Metallica, i did a full discography dive from first to most recent at that time. I had heard MoP and was blown away and was actually nervous to listen to AJFA. I thought there was no way this could top it. Well then Blackened played and i finished the album and sat back flabbergasted that they could pull off 4 albums in a row like that. Dyers Eve at that time was my favorite Metallica song. (Blackened is now w/ Dyers Eve as my second favorite)
I can't tell you how many times I vented my angst listening to this song in high school. We used to get pumped up before football games listening to this track.
Awesome reaction T. Yes this has always been a favorite of mine, also Blackened of course and The Shortest Straw (Hammett’s solo is straight fire). I vote for an album reaction😊
And Justice For All is my favorite album. Kill ‘em All was until this came out. Still my top two Metallica Albums. Just absolute pure thrashy goodness from cover to cover on both albums.
Great reaction, T. Your enthusiasm, authenticity and willingness to check out lesser-known tracks make you one of my fav reactors. AJFA has so many great tracks but when I 1st heard it (Junior in high school) this was immediately my favorite track: the speed, the double bass, the anti-parent lyrics, LOL. I love that so many thrash albums in that era closed with the fastest, heaviest song of the album.
It has taken time for this to top my list of Metallica's best albums but it is to me.... this is Metallica at their most raw and vulnerable place after losing Cliff. The music is from that pit of despair, full of grief and the anger (power) !!! You have to listen to it in it's entirety T, as noted w others this was the last song of the album \\m//
Justice is a more complex and sophisticated metal album, more cerebral, which a lot of people didn’t like, especially live. It’s borderline prog rock at times. But, as my friend once put it, as far as composition, it is one of the best.
@The Adventures Of TNT FYI: This song is/was the closer! Done!!! Perfect closer! Blackend was the opener. Lot of love/hate on JFA. The lack of Bass is a major negative factor, yet they pull it off. The loss of Cliff angst! Downhill after JFA, But still some great stuff after. Keep exploring!
This is 100% no disrespect at all and I hope you can understand that. I absolutely love watching black people react to old school Metallica!!! The look on their faces when they realize that there are people making real music with real instruments with real meaning!!! And not just a bunch of guys talking shit to a beat!! It's golden.
I'm feeling envy, hear this kind of a song for the first time ever is a privilege. ( I was 12 the first time with this song and the whole ajfa album 🤯)
Correction: It's the last song on the album and the song that closed out the 80s for Metallica. Those first 4 albums, in the 80s, they were the masters of closing out an album: Metal Militia, Call of Ktulu, Damage Inc. Dyer's Eve. This is in part why entering the 90s they were the biggest Metal band in the world and why when they released their next album, The Black Album, they become house hold names. But just remember no matter how awesome this song or the entire And Justice For All album is it still wasn't on the heavy metal level of Jethro Tull. I don't care if it was literally another century when that happened, I'm still not letting that go!
Every album has a slightly different vibe, so sometimes mood dictates what I feel is the "best". I'd probably put this at the top of the list somewhere though.
Fun fact, one of the earlier versions of dyers eve used a large part of harvester of sorrow in the middle section which would eventually be made into its own song
This one and especially the one prior to it in that album are my really my faves, and I like most of their catalog, the old, and not that old material, but this one and To Live is to die, damn, man. Not so much because of the fact that I'm completely related to the lyrics (I mean, To Live is to Die has hardly a small amount of spoken lyrics on it), so, it's more because of the music alone. It's just ol' 'Tallica at its very best. A fan since around 1990-91.
That was my first ever Metallica tape I bought in 1996 (September) and I said wow. That's f...in' great! Dyers eve is about Hetfield's childhood and about the sect his mother joined. But my favourite Metallica album is Ride the lightning. If you haven't heard till now Fight fire with fire I propose to make reaction video.
So this song is one of the songs inspired by him from what he went through with his mom especially when she was dying from cancer and because of her religious beliefs she refused treatment and said if God wants me to live or die it's his will..she passed when he was 16
Hei bro, was so cool when you got the right feeling at Kirk's solo..😂😂 And definitely you got the feeling to be a teenager full of anger.. Congratulations ❤
I love this album..."Eye of the Beholder" is a great song on that album. If you didn't already know, the whole album is recorded without any bass guitar tracks added...they were recorded with new bassist Jason, just not added.
James's father emptied the bank account and abandoned the family without saying goodbye when James was 13. Then James's mother died of cancer when James was 16 because she was a fundamentalist Christian who refused cancer treatment and wasted away in front of her kids who were praying for her healing. The song cuts deep. "Ripping wounds in me that never heal" 💔
You definitely need to check out One from this album. I always say it's the perfect metal song. To Live is to Die is a beautiful instrumental that actually leads into Dyer's Eve.
My man T! Dyers Eve and Damage Inc. Are the best Metallica songs ever for me. There are top fives, top tens and other great pieces but this two... I said "yess!" outloud when i read video avatar😊🤘🤘

And Justice For All is my favorite cd of all time from any band. What separates Metallica from all other thrash bands is Hetfield. Saw them on Justice tour. Life changing experience.
Dear mother dear father... Yea, this a very good one. One of the fastest Metallica songs out there. Another one certainly is "Damage Inc" from Master of Puppets. These very thrashy tracks are usually closers on the albums. And most of the albums have at least one of these quick and furious tracks on them. From the previous album for example there is "Spit out the Bone" which is very thrashy... Sometimes you wanna listen to "Nothing else matters" and sometimes you wanna go "Dyers eve". While on some days you want to go very heavy with "sad but true" etc. They have songs for every situation...
My 2 best albums and arguably 2 best Metallica best albums is Master of Puppets and And Justice For All. Dyers Eve kicks ass and the entire album. Good that you realize that masterpiece of these albums
The only Metallica-song that was as hard to learn as a Megadeth-song. Picking and time-signature-variations are challenging. Also the opening-track has a very difficult picking-pattern that cost me weeks to learn. Dyers eve is still my favorite Metallica-song.
Damn T, No mention this was my Patreon request?!? No biggie, as I said this is all time top 5 Metallica song for me. You are correct this album is a masterpiece, but this is the closer for the album not the opener. Hope I have made up for the Queensryche you hated with this and Candlebox. This would be a great album to do a full livestream reaction to. It has no weak spots, the elitists jump on it because they buried the bass in the mix, does not make it any less of an amazing album. And if you had the sound system I had in my car back then. It wasn’t an issue
Great request Joe, hardly anyone reacts to this GEM of a song. I'll haft go check out that Queensryche reaction - I remember seeing a thumbnail for "Gonna Get Close To You" which I remember liking a lot when it came out but not so much now. I bet T's reaction will be ... entertaining? LOL Always authentic. That's what we love about TNT.
My favorite Metallica song. Got a youtube short of me playing the solo I think.. or vid. Been a while. Definitely one of Hammets best work on the solo.
make sure y’all show some love my Patron Joe C. Without his request this video would not be possible.
Dyers Eve is a good song, but IMO their best song is also from ...And Justice For All, called Frayed Ends Of Sanity...
The sheer flex about time control and math, both in tempo and notes is amazing... but only music geeks would understand.

Bout time someone has the balls to react to this. Can always count on you. Absolute peak Metallica.
There are plenty of reactions to this song
It's not like it takes an insane amount of courage to react to a Metallica song
I personally think this is their best album. And im getting this cover as my first tattoo this july
It was the closing track - not the opening act.
Blackened was the opening track and is just as fkn hard!
This is one of the greatest thrashy metal song ever!

I was too.
I was a 13 y.o. Sk8 punk in 88 as well. HOSOI & VISION STREET WEAR for life!!!
It's actually a song James wrote about his parents.
@@jeffbowlds4610ok?
Feeling that for ya dog. Hope you’re good.
Fuuuuck yeahhhhhh!! One of their gems that doesn't get enough love
Actually, it's the finisher, right after "To Live Is To Die" (a great instrumental) and of course, "One" is also on that one!!!!
I always jump in the transition from TLITD to Dyers lmao
My favorite metallica album.
I was 13 years old when this album came out and I will never forget when I first heard this song this song embodied everything I felt at that moment in my life. I'll be 49 in January and I still love this song this is one of my favorite Metallica songs ever!

One of my top 5 favorite Metallica songs- best pure thrash song IMO. Damage Inc and Disposable Heroes are right behind it.

I am so angry that i didn't see them at that time. Saw them from the late 90's but from 87-93 i missed those concerts. Still pissed off about it.
Lyric wise this song says so many things we feel but don't have the words to express when we are young
Badass song! Whole album is killer!
“even has the same flow as harvester” famous last words
This was my first Metallica album, and it has always been a top album for me.
Same for me. Purchased this on a tape back in 1989. Nearly wore the thing out at the time..
One of Metallica's best. James' lyrics are very powerful and personal. Could be improved by turning the bass up and the drums down a bit.
Turn bass up drums down BUT the double bass could be louder
@@bigtommy9715 ikr, the double bass on this album is unbelievable
