I started listening to Metallica in 1987. Back when the only way to hear about them was by word of mouth. There was no videos, radio play or UA-cam. It was a great time to be 12 years old. I remember getting AJFA and the Black album the day they were released and running home to listen to it. To open up the album artwork and read along with the lyrics the first time listening to it. Back then, they were our band, because not everyone knew about them. Not like they do now.

I'm 53 and first discovered Metallica in early '84 when I was given a Kill Em All cassette. I was hooked. Fast forward to 1986, I was a 17 year old High School Senior and confirmed metalhead going to the record store at the mall and seeing the posters for Master of Puppets. Since I was already a fan, I bought both the LP (which I still have to this day) and the cassette so I can listen to it in the car on my way home. Two words come to mind when Damage Inc ended after listening to the entire album: "mind blown". Then I saw them live in 1989. I saw many concerts prior to that one and many since but that concert is the one I will always remember. Outdoors, smaller venue, muggy summer evening, 21 years old and one hell of a buzz on. God I miss the 80s!

I’m with those saying react to... and justice for all next. It was their next full album, the first full album with Jason Newsted. If you want to go chronologically, garage days, re-revisted is next. 5 cover songs. Definitely worth the listen. Justice you start to hear the change that was coming.
