My 9 week old puppy was not settling in the crate when we had to leave her sight!
We ended up moving it to the laundry and she sleeps well there ATM. However I’m now finding that perhaps she has too much freedom in the day as we don’t use it during the day. This is making it hard for us to work, get ready etc. Should I move it back to the living room room where we are and put her in it sporadically through the day. And is this also where she would sleep at night?? And if she cries ( for no reason as toilet is it the reason) how long do we let her? Also I think My husband bought a crate that is too big (would suit an adult dog) Can we section it off to create a smaller space?
Or could I keep a crate in laundry at night and get a play pen for living area or other rooms? Or Should they be in the same one all the time??
Lots of questions and I know we’ve had her a week and might be confusing her now

I adopted a puppy a month ago. She is a mixed breed and and is about 16 weeks old. She has terrible separation anxiety. She excessively salivates and, when possible, gets destructive with chewing things. She will not chew toys. I leave the house around 4:30am for about 2 hours and I crate her while I am gone. How can I get her to become more calm when crated when I am not home? I know I started the wrong way.

Hi! We have a 13 week old frenchie just got him a few days ago. He is great in his crate when we are present. When we leave him in a room in his crate he freaks out. When we walk into room he immediately stops so it’s hard to reward him. 😢

Try going out of view for a few seconds, then coming right back to the crate and giving your dog a treat. Slowly make the time you leave longer and longer until they are quiet and used to it. It will help them know that you will always come back. It can be used for separation anxiety with older dogs too. My mothers dog had separation anxiety really bad, so I trained him to get over it. I would go to the front door, touch the handle, and go back to him then give him a treat. The I'd move the door handle, and do it again. Then I'd eventually work my way up to opening the door a bit. Then eventually walking outside and right back in. The slower you go, the easier it will be for your dog.

It has been a VERY long crate training journey, with our 7 mos old cockapoo who has severe separation anxiety. We are better going in to the crate. But when we get home she is absolutely crazy, we try settling her before we get her out, but we have found nothing that works. I make her sit before opening the crate, use shhh noise, ask for calm, etc. there is nothing that works. When we open the door she is absolutely crazy with jumping on us to a point of, practically knocking us down, running circles etc. any suggestions?

My suggestion to this is at night when you have him in your room sleeping slowly start moving the crate closer to the door each night until you finally have the crate all the way out of the bedroom and maybe this will help with the daytime issue of not being able to leave the room.

I am currently in a production of Legally Blonde and our Bruiser(an adult Yorkie) and our Roofus(an adult mini schnauzer) have a tendency to bark as people rush past backstage. Of course, we can't have this because it will be heard by the audience.... They are currently in a wire crate in a semi-secluded area. We always have someone with them to keep them quiet, and I have our dog managers using circular rubbing on their chests when people run past to keep them calm and quiet, which has been working pretty well, but I'm concerned there may be a time we can't have anyone with them because everyone's busy and we can't have them barking. Should I bring a blanket to cover the crate? I really could use any tips! We open this week...❤

I don’t have any problem with my 8 week old Belgium Malinois sleeping in his crate. My problem is getting him to wait for me to release him. He busts through the door no matter what I do. I’ve watched the video that you guys have in this but it’s not working 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️help!!!
