    Y'all are truly a blessing, just got a 3 month old puppy and struggling with getting him to potty outside. I'd spend 30mins. to an hour, the puppy would go potty but then come back in and potty again.

    I I volunteer for a rescue that specifically saves pregnant moms, nursing moms and orphaned puppies. Your channel is a life (and hand and ankle) saver. I even recommend your videos in my letter to the adopters. You take a puppy out in snow! You work and are busy! You recognize that if you can’t constantly watch your puppy, it’s ok to crate them up and how to tire them out! Thank you for the videos that are accessible to all.

    So what I'm hearing is this: puppy is learning *all the time*, no matter what *we* are doing. So puppy's education isn't limited to "training" but includes all the elements of management and supervision. If we don't manage and supervise, then puppy is still learning--just not the things that maybe we would prefer!

    For the first 5 months of my puppy's life, he was never out of his crate unless he had on his house line and I had both eyes on him constantly. He's now almost 2 years old and he's out of his crate most of the time when I am home, but he still doesn't have free range of my house because he is too nosey and will get himself into trouble. It was like having a 50-pound toddler with big teeth! lol

    Also I truly would say that breed has a massive impact on how quick they pick training up, i have a staffy x mastiff and he was a good puppy.
    Then i got our border collie and truly can say the border collie is soo much more receptive to training and understanding what it needs to do it was house trained to about 99% within a few weeks. She knows clearly around 15 commands and have only had her 5 weeks. One thing i like to do with her is when i come back from work she is really happy to see me so i tried to get her to do commands with out treats becaise she wants to please and i really cant fault how well she has come along in a short time. My other boy is stubborn as you like haha. Great content guys i always follow.

    I would also like to mention that puppies also observe and learn from adult dogs too. Unfortunately the puppies sometimes learn bad habits from the older dogs.

    It was such a ‘passing comment’ but I’m So thankful to hear you you sometimes pick up your puppy to help avoid ‘unwanted’ behaviour outside. I did that a couple times and wondered if I was doing more damage because obviously, picking up my puppy isn’t the solution & eventually wont be an option (He is a golden retriever/lab mix xD)

    I think people don't realize that dogs are observers. Whether they're a guard dog or a fee'fee dog...by nature they are observing, gathering information.

    I appreciate your videos a lot. The information is really informative. I got my puppy about a month ago, but he just seems to be different. He absolutely listens when he wants to, but when he doesn’t want to do the ask he will not budge. At first he didn’t want to come out of his kennel, so I started using the lead. It works sometimes. Some days If he notices that I grabbed the lead, he’ll just walk out on his own. Other times, I will put the lead on, give a little pressure and he will walk out and lay flat on his stomach like a starfish and will not move. He won’t take a treat either. He also listens to his name sometimes. One day he’ll respond, the next you’d think he was deaf 😂 I’ll keep working on him. I really want him to be successful.

    So true. I do short spurts after they wake up, eat or after naps in short spurts. One good reason, is that he’d gain too much weight. Giggle. Also, I just do it whenever it comes to mind while he’s awake. I appreciate you sharing this with us. I have to remind myself of this. I also will stop to train when I know it’s not time to have crate time, I’ll stop and do a game of training and then crate train. Or, he’s tethered to me. I appreciate this video!

      First of all you have to be tough it’s only been 3 days and puppy’s are very mouthy and like to nip. Whenever you are playing with your pup and they start to get mouthy immediately and forcefully yell NO and get up and leave them signifying play time is done. Every time someone’s playing with it and it begins to get mouthy again NO (maybe a little spank) and show no attention. When the pup lets you pet without being mouthy a GOOD BOY is in order and you can redirect with toys as well and praise for choosing toy over your hand. My puppy I have now is the mouthiest dog I’ve ever met in my life so far and it’s getting better everyday. Make sure someone in your house isn’t making the pup think it’s ok to play like that or it won’t help the problem.

    My puppy is 3 months old and I've had her home for 1 week now. She has been a superstar about going to bathroom outside and telling me when she needs to go. However, after she has done her business, she goes absolutely crazy. She will run around in circles and bolt off in any direction while pulling the leash. Any suggestions on how I can fix this behavior? Thank you so much!

  • @rikvanschaaik8443
    @rikvanschaaik8443 Рік тому +1

    I was interested in the pulling when going outside. You said you carry him so he doesn't start pulling. Which is a good tip. But what do you do if he's just sniffing around and bolts away and start pulling the leash? Or are you specifically talking about pulling when walking?

    And what are you supposed to do if you've got a really bad flu and a small child who's also sick? I understand this is ideal but it's not practical for everyone all the time. More useful advice would be what do I do when I can't perfectly supervise my puppy constantly? Other than crating them for any practically long of time or paying for in-home care that you can't afford.

    We have 4 six month old puppies who trained on pee pads. We are trying to teach them to go outside. My husband thinks by just opening the door and letting them run free outside that this is how to teach them to go! I believe they need to be taken out on a leash. But how do you do that with four of them all at the same time! Frustrated!

I need to be mindful of my family members so have to be quiet and quick, even whispers is disturbing. I usually just carry him from the crate to the grass, then carry him back to the crate. • @bayholeman9952
      @bayholeman9952 2 роки тому +1

      Is it playful puppy sort of nipping? If so you could try redirecting him onto a toy, but the best cure I've found for most biting/mouthing is to immediately withdraw all attention as soon as the dog bites. Stand up if you're sitting and turn away, don't even make any eye contact for a few moments, then engage the dog again and repeat as needed. Some dogs find biting so reinforcing that any negative reaction or physical correction from you is going to increase the dogs energy level and desire to bite. You're probably already doing this but make sure he gets plenty of opportunities to expel some of his prey drive too! A flirt pole and nosework could be good options for him
