Wow, just amazing and effective. My 3 month old pup was whining so loudly in that crate but within 3-4 seconds of applying this technique he stopped. Thank you so much. I guess I can sleep peacefully tonight.
This is seriously magical! My brand new rescue puppy took to this right away -- she already recognized her crate as a safe place but closing the door and leaving was a no-go until this
This works!!!! My puppy was an angel when I first got her. Then a few days in she started whining/crying hysterically. Literally in 5 mins of practice (immediately saying quiet) she settled down.
I just got my golden retriever puppy exactly a month ago and your videos helped me prepare for her arrival. Cant believe i spent 2 months watching this channel just so i could be a better furparent to my Piper. More blessings to y’all!! 💖
I just tried this and my whining, barking, scratching at the crate Lhasa puppy is snoozing right now in the crate for 20 minutes and counting! Thank you!!!
Watched this video just as i was gonna crate train my pup. Followed the instructions by Kayl, and now she's sleeping like a puppy inside the crate with no crying going on almost 1hr and counting :) thanks for the help!
Thank you for making this wonderful video! We struggled for a whole week to get our 12-week-old puppy to calm down in his crate. He would whine non-stop before freaking out and resorting to barks and making a mess of his crate. After several sleepless nights in a row, we were at our wits end. Then, looking for some guidance, I came across this video. I followed the instructions to a "T." MAGIC! The first 30 minutes were iffy, but by the end of the first hour, I could already see a difference. We worked on this on-and-off throughout the day. By bedtime, we were nervous. Our pup whimpered quietly once or twice, but otherwise remained calm and quiet. He slept through the night, only waking us up to let us know he needed to be let outside twice. It was nothing short of miraculous. He's remained calm in his crate for a couple consecutive nights. Thank you for teaching us how to be better doggy parents!
Hi guys! Great tips!!! The only part that I'm missing what you do with a puppy when it's whining at night? There are mixed advice on the internet - let it cry it out, comfort your puppy immediately, wait 5 mins...confused parent!!! 😢
@@parkertalamantes Maybe spend a night where you know you don't have obligations and just work on this while in bed? A frozen kong w/ peanut butter usually helps keep my pups busy too and keeps their minds working
I followed this to a tee. This worked on my 8 month old puppy like magic! Thank you so much. My puppy is happy and calm after only 10 minutes. She was barking and crying like crazy the last two nights because I didn’t move the crate where she could see me being busy. People, do this exactly like she shows with consistent praise and it works!!! You are the best!!!!!!❤❤❤
my partner and I just adopted a puppy and she wasn’t doing well in a crate. After training her with the help of this video for literally half a day she has done WONDERFULLY. She goes in her crate on her own to play with her toys, she is responding to the “kennel” command, and when we put her up for nighttime she whines for less than a minute and settles down. Thank you so much!!🐾❤️ I can’t wait to see how much more she progresses in her training
my dogs always loved their crates. 3 crates 2 dogs one puppy. Tried all this.. nope. seriously worked on it. Dog hates the crate. He just needed to feel more secure first I guess. Now we can crate him when we go out. First time went bad next time went ok. 3nd time crate had to be scrubbed down he had to have bath. Would not care treats toys etc. Next time great. This time was alsleep when we got home. He now will go in it. Does he love it no. I have never had a dog dislike it but live and learn. We had the same issue with bed time..he would scream and not stop. Didnt go over well with husband. Couch for 2 weeks with puppy. No where near husband at night. What changed us going to cabin. He slept on floor under bed. Akso when night time accidents stopped. Go figure. I have one dog does night crate she loves her crate. The other two sleep in our bedroom includes the puppy And behave. now. Im good with that. Bed if they settle floor if they want. Keep a few quiet toys and chewy bones. No chewing no accidents. They sleep. Go figure. But will still be crated when we leave.
Needed to come back to say our 8-week-old puppy was struggling in her crate. Followed this, and she just slept through the night. So useful - and successful!
I’m 13 and this helped me I got my dog 3 day ago it’s may19 and his birthday is April 9th he’s doing really good after this video thank you very much this was so helpful
Did these techniques 1 hour a day with my 8 week old berner/pyraneese cross And IT WORKS!!!! First night we got him was brutal. After finding this video, doing 1 hour a day past 3 days, we get to sleep on our schedule to take him out with minimal crying every night so far. Start slow, baby steps. And we feed him his foods in it. Then start closes and “quiet” like this video and build from there! Good luck folks!

Here are some things that worked overnight for me. My puppy whined or barked for an average of about 10 minutes every night before bed for about a month. I’m not saying it’s going to work for everyone but this helped my puppy go to his crate on command. My girlfriend and I are busy people and can’t always come home throughout the day, sometimes not being able to let him out for 6 hours at a time (I guess it wasn’t straight to the kennel, he has his kennel open in a small pen.) The first thing I’d do when I got home from work or wake up was get myself all situated. Id put my keys away, get changed, and hang out for about 5 minutes. If he wasn’t whining or scratching at the gate, then I’d let him out. The next thing I’d do is just hang out and sit next to his crate to try and show him that it’s okay to be in here and it’s not punishment and that it’s HIS area/room. Every time he’d go in his crate by himself, I would reward him with positive encouragement and some treats. After that, I’d bring his bed out of his kennel and bring it into the living room. I thought of it as a way of showing him that it’s his place to sleep and relax since we don’t let him on the couch yet. The last thing I’d do which I think he enjoyed the most was his stuffed kong toy. When it was time for bed, I would shut off all the lights and just hang out, for about 10 minutes giving him the hint it’s time for bed. I would get some of his kibble, treats, fill it with a little beef broth and water, and freeze it. I think he viewed it as a treat and it kept him busy when it was time for us to go to sleep. As many of you have seen here or in other videos, it’s crucial that you don’t acknowledge or give in when they are barking and whining. It’s also important to give them your attention and wear them out before you put them away. At the end of the day, they are still puppies and adjusting to a new environment. I hope this helps!
I just got my Shih tzu puppy yesterday and it definitely was a rough first night! I found this video and started working with her for about an hour so far… major improvement! I’m so happy I found your channel

Wow Thankyou for this video. Our 9 week old cavapoo, sweet as she is, was whining whenever in her crate and she couldn’t see us. Just one day of this training method and can already see a huge difference! We want her crate to be her safe space and have been implementing all your crate training tips. So far so good!
I have a pit bull /XL bully , I’m glad I’m doing it correctly, so far .. I have a 30ft leash for training so that leash tip is perfect tip !!! Also, viewers make sure the temperature is good for the dog maybe put a little blanket in the crate. I have a mini heater just far enough so he doesn’t get too hot . But my pup sleeps best when he’s warm …. Just make sure it’s not too close or too hot ..
Thank you!!!! I was trying to train and do the washing.... stopped everything to just work on just crate training.....worked quicker than I expected!🎉❤
Our puppy (who we've had for a couple of weeks) turned 3 months old on the 27th. We just set up his crate today and have been training. Tonight is his big night - the first night sleeping in it. Now that he has a crate he'll have a place to go be while I have importrant human things to do (bathing, cooking, etc...). Thank you so much for your advice!
Okay ✍️✍️ my pup is so smart he stay in his crate with the door open if he stays until i call him out i reward him also when he stays quiet inside like you show. But now i am taking in consideration to move the crate around i think that would give him peace of mind. Thank you. Your videos are great 👌🙏🫶✍️✨️🐾
My newest addition is a puppy named Josie. I put her in her crate to sleep, and she's going nuts right now. I tried this technique...and in 10 minutes, she is quiet. :)
This is so helpful thanks! I just got a black Labrador puppy today and she always cries in her crate already and wants to be let out. She starts barking as well which is a pain lol
I have a question: MCCanns videos all suggest that you should keep your pup in the crate when you are not training. One of the reasons we are getting a pup is also emotional support; to chill with him, cuddle with him and play, how is this possible when it needs to be in the crate all the time? I really appreciate all the videos you guys are sharing, great information and tips on raising a dog!
I would use the crate then for sleeping. When your puppy naps its a great time to let them feel the comfort of the crate while napping. Yes I KNOW you want to pet and cuddle the sleeper, but you can continue that after you teach "comfort/sleeping" crate training. When your pup goes to the crate themselves (You leave the door open) when they want to relax/nap you know you have done it right. Crate training is over.
Great content. Question: How do you calm the puppy down in the crate when there is another adult dog roaming the house who is not crated and already trained? Thanks!
I just got a havanese, he is 2 months old! I have the same problem as well 😭 He’s only calm when he sleeps but our main problem with him right now is that he loves biting hands and feet (a bit too hard), do you have any tips for that?
@@alimonet8898 hey, I just keep putting something he’s allowed to chew in his mouth, I also hold his mouth closed or open to teach him that biting is not acceptable as I yelp loud. He’s getting way better in the crate since I’ve been using it more. 🤞🏼
I remedied the crate-yapping by writing up a well-thought, intervention like letter explaining to him why it’s inconvenient to me. He took it very well. I recommend this.
This video surprised me alot, this channel seems to have some sort of a following and a reputation despite handing out poor advice that only ever leads to poor behaviors, as a new puppy owner I watched many of these videos and followed all instructions, to my surprise I never got anywhere and did some research. A lot of really good dog owners with very well behaved dogs who partake in the dog training community all agree that the advice provided here is not to be taken seriously. There is a reason only 9k people liked the video with half a million views.
So, everyone is like: Oh, great video; I just got a puppy and watching this video; awesome timing for watching this video - I just got a puppy, Thank you so much for the video. It's great...and so on... IS THERE anyone who tried this and can comment with issues he/she had while training ur puppy this way? It looks nice and all, but it's counter-productive when u show up straight away when puppy starts to whine, cause it knows now that you'll show up every time he does that. A bit questionable, at least.
Great instructional video on how to prison train your pup. Best way to avoid this problem is to avoid a crate in the first place. A dog is not meant to be locked up for long periods of time-I especially like the comment from the person who's had their dog in the crate for 11 hours without a sound. You need to trust your dog and allow it to make mistakes, and then your dog will trust you
Personally I put a blanket on my dog's crates because it makes the crate feel more home-y and more like a cozy den and a safe space for him (he still have one side which he can look out from.)
It’s a Whippet! I just brought home a Whippet puppy 2 days ago. He doesn’t like to be alone. He was kenneled with free access to 3 adult dogs and 6 siblings. He cries for about 5-10 minutes and then settles down. I’m hoping to improve his acceptance of the crate.
Mi Pomsky is 2 and I had to build a black out room out of wood and sound proof to put him in and he’ll immediately settle. Or the barking would last 5 hours
My puppy doesn’t take treats from me when whining in crate like when she has calmed down. She also doesn’t respond to me saying quiet in deep voice or tapping on her crate. What would you suggest in this case? Love your style of training. This pup has separation
@jim2thebob1 I'm determined to crate train her and she's only 10 weeks. She's quiet at night and as long as she can see me but screams if I walk away from her crate or leave to walk my other dogs. only stops if I come back to her crate. Do you have any advice for that?
Not gonna lie, I watched this with some healthy skepticism. I cannot BELIEVE how simple this is and quickly it has helped. My newly rescued 6 month old pup is doing so much better in his crate - & after only a couple days! I was told that his original family gave up and got rid of the crate entirely, that’s how obnoxious he was about it.
Good video, So my Beegle howls in her crate when she sees me and when she knows i'm home. Apparently when im gone all day she lies down and sleeps but when i come home she loses her "poop" and wont stop howling. The same thing happens in the morning when she wakes up for morning walks. My wife has trained her to her now i want to train her to me too.
Do u have video on crate training for older dog that had trauma as puppy? As a puppy his paw got in slat when he was transferred in/out. Now refuses a crate, even with treats
This took us from 5 seconds, to 1 hour of me working in the other room -- within a day! To be fair, he's been sleeping most of the time, but I made sure to make him notice I'm leaving the room and haven't heard a peep since.
I have a problem with my for month old puppy peeing Under the blanket When we go to bed .. there's pads on the floor, and he uses them, but sometimes he pees under the blanket When we go to sleep and usually get off the bed to use the pads... thank you for your help...
Watching your video is exactly what happens when we start doing our daily test. The puppy starts to wine. He got water. He played a little bit. He went bathroom. He gets stubborn. He pushes those with his body so we have to put him into him not to do that, but then he whines and whines and barks and whines and barks and whines and bark.
Puppies are like babies that way. Is there anything wrong? No worries. Cry it out. Our new rescue 6 month old doesn’t like to go in crate but we are working on it
I love your videos! I’m trying to improve my 9 week old Leondoodle’s crate training, esp since we have almost 10 days to focus on puppy training. She goes in for her meals, but I’d like her to nap there, etc. Crate location is in my bedroom/kitchen, where I almost always hang out (tiny Apt). She will eventually be my mobility service dog.
Very nice lesson. What’s the brand of your crate? I like it a lot. It looks very rigid and sturdy. What is the size of the crate for your dog? My dog is kind of the same size as your dog. Thank you very much

What a beautiful dog. ❤❤. Whippets are notorious for wanting to be with you all the time. Thank you for trying to help her be calm.
This has been a huge help, thank you! After about an hour of working with my dog she totally got it!
Thank you. Your videos are great 👌🙏🫶✍️✨️🐾
5:57 was cartoonishly hilarious when she statued after your "quiet."🤣
Thank you for sharing your insights.
That was hilarious, 😅🤣🤣
My newest addition is a puppy named Josie. I put her in her crate to sleep, and she's going nuts right now. I tried this technique...and in 10 minutes, she is quiet. :)
You are a lifesaver I couldn't stand my boxers screeching. And now it's all fixed thankyou
Finally a video featuring a sight hound!! My Afghan cries in his crate …
FABOULOUS VIDEOS!!!! thank you so much for training me to be the best parent for my puppy!!!
🙏 It takes repetition & patience to progression forward. Amen.🙏
Thank you so much, Kale! Excellent training!
The leash wiggle really helped us
Great content. Question: How do you calm the puppy down in the crate when there is another adult dog roaming the house who is not crated and already trained? Thanks!
My 6 month old Havanese is still barking when first in the wire crate or plastic travel crate so I definitely need to work on crate training. Thanks!
I just got a havanese, he is 2 months old! I have the same problem as well 😭
He’s only calm when he sleeps but our main problem with him right now is that he loves biting hands and feet (a bit too hard), do you have any tips for that?
@@alimonet8898 hey, I just keep putting something he’s allowed to chew in his mouth, I also hold his mouth closed or open to teach him that biting is not acceptable as I yelp loud. He’s getting way better in the crate since I’ve been using it more. 🤞🏼
Thank you so much. This video really help with my two pups dealing with Neophobia. Thank you so much.
The type of voice you use is perfect
so far this was the most helpful yet! thank you!
I remedied the crate-yapping by writing up a well-thought, intervention like letter explaining to him why it’s inconvenient to me. He took it very well. I recommend this.
Genius the best training videos ever.
There is a reason only 9k people liked the video with half a million views.
you are amazing and helping us so much! Thank you!
Good question! This will help: Puppy Crate Training Doesn't Need To Be STRESSFUL!

Happy Training!
A very useful video. Thank you very mucvh! I trained my GSD also in less than an houre.Great!
Thank you for making this wonderful video!!
Wow a great trainer 🎉
My dog got his crate late so he isnt used to being in his cage at night but this was really helpful thank you
It’s a Whippet! I just brought home a Whippet puppy 2 days ago. He doesn’t like to be alone. He was kenneled with free access to 3 adult dogs and 6 siblings. He cries for about 5-10 minutes and then settles down. I’m hoping to improve his acceptance of the crate.
Simply incredible!! Thank you so much!!
Thank you for the tips!
Game changer!
What a great video. Thank you so much
Mi Pomsky is 2 and I had to build a black out room out of wood and sound proof to put him in and he’ll immediately settle. Or the barking would last 5 hours
My puppy doesn’t take treats from me when whining in crate like when she has calmed down. She also doesn’t respond to me saying quiet in deep voice or tapping on her crate. What would you suggest in this case? Love your style of training. This pup has separation
Any progress?
Throw the crate across the room
This is how my puppy is. She just won't stop. I'm so tired of it 😪
@@laurenfager583 you gotta keep going. My puppy was non stop barking. Put a blanket over the top of the crate at night.
@jim2thebob1 I'm determined to crate train her and she's only 10 weeks. She's quiet at night and as long as she can see me but screams if I walk away from her crate or leave to walk my other dogs. only stops if I come back to her crate. Do you have any advice for that?
I think you are great! Thank you so much for posting!!
Glad you were able to bring some peace to your home😉 Happy Training!
Extreemly helpful video
Have you ever used mood music to be calming also I did use music like Enya it really helps to calm down a pet .
Me after 5 days…. 😴 wow training is so hard 😂
He pushes those with his body so we have to put him into him not to do that, but then he whines and whines and barks and whines and barks and whines and bark.
beautiful whippet...pls do more videos with her, we just gotna puppy whippet.
Puppies are like babies that way. Is there anything wrong? No worries. Cry it out. Our new rescue 6 month old doesn’t like to go in crate but we are working on it
Extremely helpful! Very much appreciated 🙏
Thanks for the tip
What do you do if you have an XL HEAVY crate! 😬
Very nice lesson.
What’s the brand of your crate? I like it a lot. It looks very rigid and sturdy. What is the size of the crate for your dog? My dog is kind of the same size as your dog. Thank you very much
