I enjoyed this video, and it was nice seeing some of the differences and similarities in care between 4C, and how I care for my 4A hair. It's certain that moisture is key for all of us coily and curly-haired ladies. Anyone with 4C to 3C needs to be very aware of moisture. I think one main difference is where growth plateaus happen with the different textures. I struggled a bit getting past bra strap, but it was still a moisture retention issue.
This makes a lot of sense! In addition to the likelihood of plateauing depending on hair type, I also have been thinking it likely changes due to body shape as well? Like people with longer/shorter torsos/neck/etc may experience them differently?
@@cocoainkyoto I think the difference with body length/shape is more related to how long it takes to reach a certain spot on the body than to an actual plateau. It's going to take someone who's 5'10 longer to get to waist length than it will someone who is 5'5 because of height AND they may also experience a growth plateau along the way.
Loving your videos and can tell me the lip stick you have on it's gorgeous and your hair is beautiful. And how did I know that you watch Star Puppy because you remind me of her so much LOL

My 4c hair is so dry I have to re-moisturize it everyday. No matter what butter oil or grease I used to seal it’s always dry parched and chapped by the end of the day.
How are you remoisturizing? Do you use leave-in conditioner? There is definitely a way to keep your 4c hair moisturized for a week. Your style choice is also important as I mentioned.
Hm, unfortunately that question doesn’t have a simple answer 😥 I wish I could tell you, but I found that it seems to be something each person has to figure out on their own… Perhaps I’ll try to make a video on it in the future with some helpful ideas to get you there tho.
Wow, I can’t even remember it’s been so long 😅 I’d say at least 5 years ago? Maybe around the middle of my plateau period. But possibly even 6 years ago?? I used the apogee back then and I only bought the full treatment once, so I think I’d only ever done it 2 or 3 times in total as well.
INR!? Cocoa's right the style matters, if you have any part of your hair loose the moisture will quickly evaporate. With a good protective style all things are possible
@@katkatungu8813 I have 4b high porosity hair. I start with medium size braids or twists (about 20-40). Then keep them up in a bun with the ends tucked or two flat twist down side of my head and tuck in the ends. I like this because I don't have to take down the twists to remoisturize weekly. I will take them down (detangle and redo) every two weeks for wash day. Depending on your hair type and porosity, a bun can or two side braids may work. My hair will mat, dry out and tangle if I only pull loose strands into a bun, so the medium braids/twists are best for me- I hope this helps :-)
@@kittiesinthecity9333 thanks that has helped me understand. It's cold rn in my country . I had box braids in January but bc my hair didnt feel moisturized I undid them . So now I do cornrows then I wear wigs. I dont know if that counts as s good protective style?
Mini twists or medium sized twists with your own hair is good . If you get box braids keep them a maximum time of 7 weeks . I spay rose water on my scalp and hair
Hope this message finds you well. Would you be able to describe or show pics of what your breakage looks like. I have too many in my opinion longer and shorter pieces. My hair isn't growing as fast as it used to. I'm moisturizing once a week, F.D and trying to be very careful. I also wear my hair in twists most of the time. Protein treatments aren't doing anything. I've been using a sulfate shampoo on my scalp only and a conditioner to wash. Or just doing an acv rinse. I've been using a homemade leAve in or just using water and a Shea butter mix. I've been praying about it and doing everything right. I'm seeing slips and try to cut them out. For the one's I don't see. My hair is breaking there. Plus I have 4b and 4c strands through out my hair. I want to reach my goal. Please help.
Hm, I’m not sure I’ll be able to figure out exactly where the issue lies from just this information, but the things that I thought after reading about your regimen are: 1.) I’d stop protein treatments altogether. In my experience they’re more likely to do more harm than good if you don’t need it, and if you said it’s not helping then that means you don’t need it, so just let them all the way go. 2. I think it’s possible your hair might be breaking from buildup because you seal with a butter but only wash with conditioner. I’d recommend giving your hair a thorough shampoo with your sulfate shampoo (if it’s silicone free) and then stop using the shea butter and switch to sealing with castor oil. It seals as well as a butter but is removed from the hair a lot easier. 3. After you get all the shea butter out of your hair, switch to using a sulfate free shampoo on your hair and scalp regularly for ease. No need to wash your hair and scalp with different products. 4. Idk what’s in your leave in conditioner, but I’d suggest just getting a silicone free store bought one because it will be good enough to give you the moisture you need without any guesswork. 5. During your recovery period moisturize more frequently if you’d like to the same way I explained in this video. Hopefully this helps.
@@cocoainkyoto I used to shampoo my hair entirely with the shampoo but stopped as I was trying to retain as much moisture as possible. Using shampoo on my scalp and co-washing and more recently acv rinse are what I've started recently to try and retain moisture I'm on a really tight budget plus I live in the Bahamas and can't find any sulfate free shampoo. Don't know what's going on. I only touch my hair once a week.. I workout and sweat so weakly wash is a must. Nevertheless I will take your advice to heart. I appreciate you taking the time out
How do you do your acv rinse? What's the mix ratio, and so you rinse it out with plain water after? Too acid a mix of acv will eat out your hair, you need to mix at a safe ratio.
Thanks so much girl 💖 I keep them in for 4 weeks usually, sometimes 5 weeks if the timing doesn’t align well on the designated weekend. But sometimes something will come up in the middle of the month where I want to wear a twist out, so then I’ll just take down the protective style for the day and put it back in the twists within the next week. I’ve been able to become more lenient with it now that my hair is longer :)
