BOUNCY! 🥰
🤸🏾♀️💓
Have you tried dry shampoo? Love your vids
So can we use boar bristle brushes onbtype 3c or 4c hair?
So for me it take the sides of my hair and bangs part them in two twists and put them in a bun. In between wash. I'll sprits and use olive oil or jajoba or coconut or argon oil. And i like it. My hair would be longer but i had times where i did cut more than just a trim. I have partial locks and i enjoy the combination of type 3/4 hair with locs it just fits so well.
🙋🏿♀H Thank you for this conversation. I have a hair goal to maintain 6inches of hair this year. My plan is to leave my hair in faux locks for 4-6 weeks at a time. I am, however, aware that synthetic hair can potentially dry my hair. My question to you, Cocoa, is how did you manage to maintain your hair in twists 1-2 months at a time without a lots of frizz or the temptation to take them down. I asked because I would like to use twists or braids with my own hair along my year’s challenge.
I love that she said just because my hair is thick doesn’t mean u can use the de man brush. Your sisters hair is definitely THICK DENSE.
TRULY! Like if my hair is a tree, hers is the Amazon rainforest 😭
I’ve watched this video so many times I love love this you are both so so gorgeous not because your hair the LOVE THE SISTER ❤️ LOVE 💗 I JUST LOVE THIS SO SO MUCH I WATCH THIS LIKE TWICE A MONTH FOR. INSPIRATION WHILE LISTENING TO CLASSICAL MUSIC. ITS LIKE IM IN 4c heaven💗❤️💗❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🖐🏿🖐🏿🖐🏾👍🏾✌🏾✌🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾💗🙏🏾❤️🙏🏾❤️🙏🏾💗🙏🏾💗🙏🏾
Awww thank you so much! This really warms my heart 💖 We haven't made another video together like this since then, but since you love it so much, I'll plan another one! When I come back to making videos on this channel again, I'll make some more with my sister in them :)
please keep doing these bc i end up remoisturizing and detangling my own hair along w you!
After all these years and I finally find out someone actually does detangle to this video 💖 This makes me so happy because I used to LOVE doing my hair while watching UA-cam videos, so I would look for the longest ones to get me through detangling. So in the early days of my channel, I wanted to create videos like that for other naturals, but it doesn't seem that they had the same effect on others. But here you are :)💖 Thank you so much for letting me know. When I come back to making videos on this channel, I'll make another one of these for you 💕
@@cocoainkyoto yess thank youu!!
For me I would like to achieve 5-6 inches to pass 20 inches. Apple cider is good for dandruff. Tee tre oil is too. Hopefully 🙏🏾 in 2028 I will have koko in Kyoto tail bone length 😅😅😅😅reminds me of keke Palmer too😊
🙋🏾♀️goal for this year: waist length by Oct (my birthday) •Washing my hair weekly (yeah I know, but my scalp condition demands it) •no added hair this year. or ever again. •oils. Oils oils oils. •more. water. •incorporating hairstyles that actually protect my hair (currently in mini braids). I plan to have each style last about 1/1.5 months •enjoy my hair until then. I love it and other people love seeing it🩷🩷🩷
I understand Sis, your hair looks amazing as always ❤❤❤
Thanks so much 💖💖💖 I have it out this week lol 🥰
Once you *find the cause of dandruff* you automatically have the solution😊.... I have a *solid number of activities on repeat* to produce better outcome in 2025.🌱

@@cocoainkyotothank you. I used the link to subscribe 😊
No problem! Thanks for subscribing and I’ll see you over there soon 🥰
UA-cam originally recommended me your hair content but I stayed for the Japan content. Sucks that the algorithm forces you to choose bur glad you’re finally going to share what you love
Thank you so much! I’m glad you’re along for the ride 💓 And yes it’s amazing how much more free I already feel mentally even tho I still haven’t posted my first video on the new channel yet. I’m full of new hope and excitement 🥰
I highly recommend using the salicylic acid pre wash treatment from Inkey list and an anti dandruff shampoo like Nizoral on your scalp after. I got this from Doctorly and it helped a lot. I also use the hyaluronic acid scalp serum from Ordinary to stop itch. This routine works for me and helps my har stay itch and flake free
Happy new year Cocoa!
Happy New Year love 💕🎉✨
Although I found you based on hair I love watching your content for your personality ❤
Also, The hair is amazing in this video ❤
Thank you so much for staying ♥️🥹♥️
Cocoa do you have a tictok platform?
I don’t have TikTok, although I’ve always wanted to make one tbh 😅 I do have IG, although I don’t use it 😔 @cocoainkyoto
@ okay
Watching this in a twistout rn. I lowkey felt like i was being broken up with in the beginning but a your decision makes sense. Honestly i rewatch alot of your older videos so it doesn't feel like your gone to me. I am interested in Japanese living though. Good luck!!
Omg that breaks my heart more 😭 I’m glad you understand tho 🥺 Also I’m happy to hear my videos are worth rewatching too 🥹 I’ll come back with new videos on this channel one day; I promise 💓
Spraying cloves water in your hair will darken it, it is like a natural dye 😊
Thanks for the tip!
Spraying cloves water in your hair will darken it, it is like a natural dye😊
I never know how to start a conversation with the intention of advising another person on how to grow their hair because I feel like it's personal to them and I'm pushing their boundaries 😅. Fortunately, a lot of people ask me how I grow my hair. This year I will keep the link to this channel pinned on my clipboard 😂 so that I can send it to whoever asks me about my hair because my routine really is inspired by this channel. The one product that has helped me a lot as well, that I have not heard you speak about, is incorporating glycerin into my moisture routine. I saw it on Coily Diaries channel. She also a similar twisted lifestyle routine. Hopefully we can help even just 1 more person achieve their hair goals as well 🎉❤
👶🏿 I really want to change my mentality towards protective styling 😅. So here's the story: I have been growing my hair for only 3 years. I was lucky enough to come across communities like this one very early in my journey, so I was able to avoid some of the challenges you faced, like a plateau, because of your advice and information. Thank you by the way 💖💗. What that means is that from about 1 and a half years into my hair journey I have been using protective styles to retain length. I do a protective style for a certain amount of time, then take a break and enjoy my hair for a while, and repeat. Each time I improve my routine and retain even more length. However, each time I have to go back to a protective style I experience a negative emotion because... you know, I feel I look better with my hair out and big and fluffy that I do with an old protective style on my head that needs to be rebraided 🙈😅. I find it not to to be as enjoyable as I wish it were. So I want to change that mentality. A change in mentality is difficult, grinding out a challenging time is difficult, I know 😂. But seeing my hair get longer makes me really happy, so the plan is to focus on the excitement of seeing my hair get to a length it's never been before. I don't have all the actionable steps planned out for this yet, but it is the change I would like to see.
Sis, Happy new year! I'm most excited about reaching waist length this year 🎉🎉🎉. I'm at mid back-ish length right now. I cannot wait 😂 I currently have my hair in chunky twists and tied up in a bun. I have not decided on whether I want to do a mini twist or mini braids long term protective style, but I will be protective styling. I have a good routine and products that work well for my hair already, so it shouldn't be too challenging for me to reach my length goal. Also, I have seen what improvements in my diet do for my hair, it's amazing. While I don't promise to stay on a strict diet plan because... 😬😬😬, I will try to eat a bit healthier than I did in the past few years
I’m so excited for you too! Being at mid back length, you’re def going to reach waist length this year. Be sure to come back and share that win in a comment with us when you reach it tho 🥳💖 Why not try both the twists and braids? I’ve realized the only way to make some decisions is to just try all the options 😂 at least in my case as someone who suffers from crippling indecision lol. Oh no… two more people commented that diet changes greatly improved their dandruff and now you’re the third… maybe curing my dandruff is impossible for me after all 🥹🥹😭
Q1. I am excited about reaching my length goals 🙋 Q2. I will accomplish this through aggressive protective styling using mini braids and making my own hair oil and butters Q3. I will keep it simple so that i can sustain my routine👶
Love your plan! 🥳 You’ve got this! 🙌🏾💕
To grow out the rest of my heat. Damage hair eight more inches to go half way there
That’s an excellent goal! You’ve totally got this 💓📣
GLOVERS MANE PUT ON SCALP BEFORE SHAMPOOING. OR PURE AVOCADO FRUIT N OLIVE OIL.
I believe you may’ve recommended Glovers mane to me in the past and I totally forgot to try it 💀 thank you for sharing again; I’ll give it a try 🥹♥️
#1 LENGTH RETENTION
YASSSS 🎉💕
Goal is to keep my ends moist conditioned and protected to prevent split dry ends as much as possible. I will examine ends every 3-4 days and as necessary add hydration via aloe Vera mist 🌫️ 🌵followed by argan or olive 🫒 or avocado 🥑 oil whichever I have on hand and sealed with flaxseed gel.
Your routine sounds so lusciously hydrating that just reading this made me thirsty 🤤 lol. Literally that sounds so good; I’d like to experiment with other oils and flaxseed gel at some point too, so it’s nice to hear what’s working for others 💕
this sounds like indigenous strandz routine
btw do you make the aloe vera juice yourself? or where do you get it?
I’m doing a no spend year challenge so I can pay off debt. I’m most excited about that. My other goal is to teach my children Spanish. My hair goal is to reach mid-back length by the end of 2025. I’m currently about to two inches away from bra strap length. For me, retaining length has been pretty easily because I just wear my hair in mini twists.
Wow those are really big, incredible goals! Thanks so much for sharing them with us 💕 Also your midback length goal sounds very attainable! Also brought me joy to hear length retention is easy for you thanks to mini twists ; what a nice change of pace 💖
Thanks for starting the conversation! I’m excited this year about keeping my hair in mini braids all year long and seeing how much my hair can grow (whilst still washing and redoing them once a month)! My strategic plan is to oil edges (cause they are non-existent😅) everyday and remoisturize my hair weekly or as needed! I’m gonna wear wigs so I don’t have to worry about styling my hair and just let it growwww! Hope to gain *at least* 3 inches this year cause I’m a slow grower. Changes I expect? To have hair that’s long and luscious like yours! Bought your book last month as a Xmas gift to me, and already trying to implement your strategy and products cause we got the sameeee hair, honey! Sidenote: you really inspired me last year with your advice (keep doing the good work) and I’m really hoping this year will be different for me 🎉❤✨ THANK YOU!
Wow thank you so much for sharing all of that with me 😭 I’m so happy we’re hair twins and that my strategies were helpful for you 💖💖💖 Also thank you for purchasing my e-book; I hope it helps makes things easier for you ♥️♥️♥️ With that current plan of 1 year in mini braids, I’m expecting you to get WAY more than 3 inches 😂 But I agree it’s nicer to set conservative goals and then get SUPER excited when you absolutely smash them 🥰 can’t wait to hear about your progress later on 💕
🙋🏾♀️👶🏾not sure if I’m using these emojis right for these q’s lol but I’m going to answer both q’s and I’m going to ask for ur help as well…btw I’m so glad u did this video cuz I had this burning q…as I told u b4 I completed the 6 mth challenge and saw significant growth…my hair was thick and thriving…then 2024 started and I braided my hair (with extensions) back to back so 2x…mistake number one…after that I wanted to try a couple ‘cute’ hairstyles which required back to back washings (closer than once per month) mistake number 2…then I decided to give my hair a ‘break’ and reverted to chunky twists (yay 😮💨). Throughout the 2 yrs I’ve been following u, I haven’t had a silk press…I stayed away from salons. But what I noticed is that my new growth at the roots is becoming uncontrollable for me…to the point where it’s a bit scary 😨 on wash day cuz I can no longer use a long/wide tooth comb to comb thru my hair (with lots of conditioner and the water running) anymore…cuz the hair at my roots doesn’t look/feel like the hair at the middle and ends. I own a revair and I’ve used it to stretch my hair but even that doesn’t ’straighten’ my roots enuf 😢. So now I’m kinda stuck 🫤 I need advice on how to move frwd with my hair growth cuz I feel like if my hair continues to grow the roots r going to get more and more uncontrollable and my hair will start looking more and more uneven (thin ends compared to the roots). Do I just let my hair grow and ignore the uneven-ness? Do I cut off the ends (gradually every 6 mths) until I cut off all my ‘textured’ hair? Plz help 😩
🙋 my length is just past my shoulders. 1)My goal is to get past bra strap length. I actually finally got a routine and the right products that keep my hair moisturized. 👶2) want to do more strecthed protective hairstyles, like twist outs and wash n gos.
That’s a great goal and totally doable within the year! Especially since you’ve already got your products and moisture down packed 👊🏾💥 The only thing I’d recommend is limiting your wash and gos since they’re not a stretched style. Not sure what your hair type is but if you’re 4c, it will likely do you more harm than good, so just be cognizant 😔
Question for you: What are your thoughts on using hairdryers such as RevAir? Have you tried them? Thanks in advance!
Thanks for asking 😃 I’ve never used the Revair, but I have nothing against hair dryers. The only thing I’d stress is to understand the risk that comes with using them frequently or intensely - dryness - which is literally the LAST thing our hair needs us to help it get 😂 But for people who choose to blow dry often, I think the Revair seems like a nice option that saves time. I recently tried the Dyson supersonic hair dryer (in case you’re asking about luxury hair dryers as a whole) and I actually REALLY enjoyed it. It doesn’t change my opinion on using hair dryers on type 4 hair tho. I hope that answers your question 💕
By December 2025, I hope to be at waist length. This past year, I finally made it to BSL because I kept my hair in twists using at first synthetic hair, then when I realized after 6 months they were sucking the moisture out of my hair, I switched to using human hair for the last 6 months and it has made a huge difference in moisture retention and hair length retention.
YAS congrats on finally hitting BSL 👏🏾 That is a HUGE accomplishment 🥳💕 And you can totally hit WL in these next 12 months, especially if your length retention is still going well. I honestly had no idea synthetic vs human hair made such a difference, so thanks for sharing. I think that information could be really useful for other women who ask me about protective styling in the future🥰
For me, what eliminated dandruff was severely cutting down on sugar and processed foods. That did it! If I want to, I can now go on for 1 month without washing/shampooing my scalp and without having dandruff! I used to have to wash my scalp weekly because of dandruff. Once I made this dietary switch, game was on!
OMG! Thank you for sharing the cure with me 🥹 Although I’m not sure if I can actually cut down on sugar permanently….. 🥲 what bittersweet news. But now that I know that may be the answer, I’m going to work up the courage to testing it out. THANK YOU💖💖💖
I would like to keep all my new growth this year. No split ends and no breakage. I plan to keep my hair in two strand twists/wash weekly/ayurvedic deep conditioning/monthly protein treatments. I would like to keep all six inches of growth… My daughter has to wet her hair/scalp often and use light oils to eliminate her dandruff/excema
That’s a wonderful goal! I do also have eczema so I’ve wondered if the two could be correlated 😕 Has she seen any improvement? When I merely wet my scalp it still gets dry and itchy the next day 😔
Happy New Year 😍💖 I really appreciate this convo. It's somewhat related, but I want to reduce the amount of hair products I try this year. I spent a lot of time trying a lot of products (mostly gifted or bought) and now I’m being more financially aware and more conscious of sustainability. Having two shelves of products makes me feel uncomfortable. So my goal is to resist new product drops, saying no to gifts that don’t align and get my product shelf down to one shelf. I’ve reached my hair length goal, but if the universe blesses me with more inches, hey I’ll take that! Hmm, maintaining my length-yes lol✨Reducing stress and staying more consistent with wash days are two goals there. Love the warm messages at the end ❤ wishing you the best this year and beyond! 🫶🏾✨ Oh and dandruff… this goes a little bit against your recommendations but washing my hair more often and some diet changes have helped me a bit.
I don't have a lot of products, but my goal is to use what I have before purchasing more in a given category. I have a few items that I only used once ready to send to Project Beauty Share.
Those are fabulous goals ✨✨✨ I never got into the cycle of having too many products, but I DO get stressed from clutter so I can totally image how those 2 shelves staring you in the face must make you feel on the daily 😩 I believe in you 🥹💓 YASSSSSS TO HAVING REACHED YOUR LENGTH GOAL!!!! I’m so proud of you; CONGRATS 🍾🎉 And yes we will never block our blessings; all the inches are welcome 😂 I’m so glad it brought you some warmth 💕 Thank you for your warm wishes as well! 💖 Ooooh do tell? What kind of dietary changes?? Honestly I’m willing to give it a go 😮💨
🙋♀️ (I have an old phone that won't change her color..how embarrassing)....I have decided to big chop and start fresh. My goal is hair health first, and then see how long she will grow.. I purchased your ebook to guide me on the journey and the only thing my hair doesn't like is conditioner. So hopefully I'll be fine with just clay wash, water, and oil. I'm excited and scared. My second goal is to get through school (I'm taking court reporting) and work on my physical health. Third goal is to get a better phone so I can change these emoji colors 😂 I really appreciate the point you brought out about setting intentional goals. I had these same goals last year and here I am again. I also appreciate your generosity in regards to your time and sharing your hair tips and experiences with us. 💗
Wow girl your whole comment is gold ✨ It’s not your fault all our old phones were a lil bit racist 🥹💔 it’s the effort that counts 😂💕 Also thank you so much for purchasing a copy of my ebook ♥️♥️♥️ I hope you liked it🥺🌸 I’ve never met a natural who said their hair doesn’t like conditioner so that is really interesting… maybe your hair doesn’t respond well to the particular formulation you’re using?? Especially if you have only tried a few kinds 🤔 I’m so glad it resonated with you 💓 As long as we’re breathing, it’s never too late! I’ll be rooting for your success this year ♥️🌸♥️🌸📣
Wouldn’t say I’m on the struggle bus as I’m reaching my length retention goals but I’m not at my length goal of waist length. I plan on Being there end of the year. To get there I will continue my twist journey with monthly redoing and keeping it protected. I will keep up with my diet, vitamins, and exercise routine. I only use homemade products in my hair besides my shampoo and conditioner but I have found that my hair likes tallow and honey so I’m leaning more to less plant based products besides my hair oil. Changes im making are my shampoo and conditioners as I have my eye on this tallow and goat milk based one I’m buying for my next wash day and I want to possibly do my first blow out this year. First time since cutting off my locs I gifted myself the Dyson air wrap and cannot wait to try when I reach my length goal.
Wow this is amazing! Also the fact you’re nearing waist length after cutting off your locs is super inspiring! Clearly your routine doesn’t need changing 😍 Also congrats on the Dyson air wrap! I tried the Dyson blow dryer last year and it was incredible, so I’m sure the air wrap will be fun too ✨💁🏾♀️✨
@ thank you, and thank you for the inspiration on ditching the comb and doing long term twists.
Life goal: Stress less, sleep more Hair goal: No length goals! Just maintain my hair routine and "let it do what it do."
Nice! I also would benefit from adopting that life goal; stress is a part of my identity at this point 🫠 cheers to stress free hair in 2025 🥂💕
1. I'm most excited about getting past this phase of my growth journey. I'm also excited about exploring new styles and improving my cornrowing and parting skills. At 4 inches, even 4 more inches will significantly increase my styling options. 2. To retain length, I will keep doing what I'm doing: weekly shampooing, conditioning, moisturizing, and styling in confined styles (cornrows for now). I'm also getting quarterly trims from a professional. 3. Changes to my hair journey: No changes per se. Just continued consistency and mastering more hairstyles as my hair grows.
I love this! It sounds like you've already got a rock solid structure and plan. Thanks for sharing with us ♥️ Let's rock 2025 💕🥳
Hello Cocoa, my hair is looking so good because of you, one of my relatives, who is caucasian with dry thinning hair, wanted me to ask if you think moisture could bring her hair back. What do you think cocoa? My hair Thanks You!
Wow this is wonderful news, and I’m so glad you shared it with me! 💖💖💖 Congrats on your achievement!! As for your relative, I’m not sure exactly what the cause would be, but Caucasian hair doesn’t usually suffer from dryness the way our hair does. That doesn’t mean a couple of simple moisturizing practices wouldn’t help tho. From my knowledge, light hair oiling and regular conditioning may be enough for straight hair, so I’d recommend she start using a hair treatment, which I believe is just a protein and moisture balanced deep conditioner, once a week, and get a hair oil (something they sell as in from the hair aisle or a beauty supply store; I know argan oil is popular). If she applies the hair oil while her hair is damp after every wash and uses the treatment once a week, I think that should really help!
@@cocoainkyoto Cocoa, Thank You for sharing your valuable time and thoughts for a non-4c! You are excellent!
