    Just wanted to Thank You again. I re-glued 2 seams in my convertible top this past week, you recommended the Rhino glue and WOW that stuff is amazing.I had almost 2' of seam to try to repair and this stuff bonds like nothing I have ever seen.I clamped the seam together where I could (as you recommended) and used typical squeeze clamps for a portion of the seam and in some tight areas I used Neodymium Magnets which worked great.I thought I would mention the neodymium magnets to you since i am sure they would come in handy occasionally for all the different projects you do.Just make sure to get ones that are at least 1/2 thick depending on how much hold power you need.I see your channel becoming a huge hit on youtube,you take the time to answer viewer questions and that is rare and what separates you from the crowd. Your a true man... Thanks again SPC

    It's working for me. I have the top off the car with frame anyway. So I'm so friggin happy. Thank you. I have mine horizontal and support underneath with a board standing up underneath to add pressure. I used wood and a small kettle weight and a huge rock. Used alcohol to clean before gluing. I followed the line. Only a little at a time as you say. As the weight is on there I see how the next few look as to the line where it was glued. Thank you again.

    Hey SPC, I know this is an old video but a new problem for me in July 2020, i would be very grateful if you could tell me whether you still rate Gorilla glue over and above silicone adhesive to carry out the same fabric to glass repair you show here. I have read many threads on various forums and people seem to have varying experiences with Gorilla glue for this particular type of repair. Silicone adhesive seems intuitively superior to Gorilla glue, but some time down the line, what would you say now to re-glue the interior headliner back onto the glass of a 2004 beetle?? Thanks in advance, Dean, London, England. Big fan of your work by the way fella.

      @SweetProjectCars  3 роки тому +1

      Use this amzn.to/2sbH3OO after 40 years of experience this works better than anything else out there. Also, not sure where gorilla glue came from but we would not recommend that in any way shape or form. Have a great day. mad Mike the hammer SPC

    I personally would not grind the aluminum on a grinding wheel--the metal will "load" the wheel and can cause it to become unbalanced, which can lead to other problems. The file works very well.

    The 3M stuff has an expiry shelf life of 1 year and is costly...... I
    tried several glues but settled on the original JB Weld epoxy that sets
    in 4 to 6 hours so it gives lots of time to arrange it all. I used home
    made suction cup aluminum bar type lever clamps with flexible wooden
    paint stir sticks too but I used an 8' length of 1.5" by 1/8" aluminum bar from Home Depot and cut it to 1' lengths - the 8' length was cheaper than 3 3' lengths. I used a closed cell type of weather stripping
    affixed to the window to align and limit the spread of the epoxy out
    from under the fabric. I sanded the glass rough first too. I then let it
    dry for 2 days and then grinded excess Epoxy off and then covered the
    edge with black aquarium silicone sealant adhesive over the fabric by a
    quarter inch and the window by 3/8 an inch both limited by green paint
    tape which was removed after fingering it smooth and thin over the tape.
    I think it will hold better than original now cause that JB weld is
    really stuck on there.. I brushed the JB weld between the fold of the
    fabric too and brushed it on the fabric and window with a 1/2" brush.

      Good job thank you so much for sharing Mike

    • @halohms
      @halohms 4 роки тому

      @@SweetProjectCars so far, it is still perfect.... although the JB Weld doesn't specifically say glass it is stuck on there. A much cheaper fix. I washed the fabric yesterday and water is going through the fabric and into the back seat. But not through the window seam. I cleaned it in prep for the 303 fabric guard which will waterproof the fabric again. Now I have to wait for the sun to come out.... that stuff is toxic so need to do that outside. Always something on our older cars!

    • @halohms
      @halohms 4 роки тому

      @@SweetProjectCars LOL, At about 1:20, I see you have the same large size JB Weld I luv as well. That stuff is great but for this job, I used the original which is the red tube instead of the yellow. It is also about 25% stronger (5020 PSI). When I tried a flexible glue first, it pulled off the window when tensioned starting at the window edge of the fabric. Gluing the inside fold with the JB Weld original at teh same time as gluing the other side to the window glass created a single solid material and pulls from the fabric as if there was no fold. The roof was allowed to cure over a couple days with it near closed so the glue would be near it's closed shape and yet not under enough tension to pull it from the clamps.... I had 8 of your suction cup clamps on it but I had the cups at one third the way from the clamp end. This way, it provided more force on the fabric window than on your towel end which I used rubber disks under and rolls of electrical tape I had. More precise in setting the pressure than towels.

    Great informative video. Do you have any suggestions for my 06 VW, the canvas has receded from the rear window and I can't stretch the top back toward the rear window, it's about an inch away. Thanks

    • @SweetProjectCars
      @SweetProjectCars  3 роки тому +4

      If the canvas top has come off the rear glass, glue it there first let it sit for a couple of days with the top propped up with no tension on it then slowly and tediously lower the top in the sunshine and heat a little bit at a time until the canvas stretches, this could take over a week. If you don't feel like doing this a new canvas top may be the best. We also suggest watching the video a few more times to become more familiar with the process. I just bought a soft top Chrysler Crossfire convertible and although the window does not need re-glueing,I have a seam which has come apart about 8-10" . Wondering if you have dealt with that type of issue and would the glue you use work ? I realize I will have to come up with a good way to clamp the seam while gluing it. Upholstery shop says 2k to replace and claims it can't be glued which may be why I see no vids on youtube for seam glueing (only patching holes) But I am going to try it before dishing out 1- 2k since the top looks new otherwise. Thanks for all the videos I have learned so much in just the last few days watching your videos and can't wait to try your scratch/ding touch up paint tricks.

    For any Australian viewers you cant get Rhino glue here but you can get Gorilla glue from Bunnings its american made and if you google
    rhino verse Gorilla it mentions Gorilla slightly better, you can also get the aluminium strips at Bunnings to cut like shown in vid , one length about $15
    it will not be enough to do whole window in one go , the top of window is normally ok , so leave it alone , do both ends first , then start at bottom each side and
    then the middle section last, you will most likely have to buy the suction cups off ebay overseas , nothing from Bunnings make sure you wet suction cups so they stick better.
    Leave the original factory glue on glass , give the old glue which looks more like a hardened silican a good clean with diggers isopropyl alcohol also from bunnings comes in small spray bottle.
    dont use anything like turps which leaves oily residue , make sure you tape up the glass and cloth so you dont get any on either , use the aluminium lengths like shown , it is an easy job but will
    take a few days as you are limited by the length of aluminium strip, after complete I left it in garage a few days with top propped up slightly to keep pressure off to help harden glue further.
    read the instructions on glue as it states to wet non perforated material as it activates the glue hardeners , you only need to wipe the window glue with damp cloth.
    I managed to do both sides in one day and both bottom ends the next and the middle the day after.
    Take your time and enjoy , mine turned out jist like factory , no glue residue to be seen.

      also, i just finished testing adhereing a convertible vinyl top to the rear glass. I happened to have some Scotchweld DP110 gray and tried it. It works. 1. clean glass. 2. using some silicone carbide sand paper, rough up the area of glass where the adhesive will be applied. 3. mix glue. 4. using two strong magnets...or one strong magnet and a strip of ferrous metal on the other side sandwich the top material, adhesive and glass. 5. Dries in about an hour. 6. using bug and sap remover...clean sticky and gooey remains from duct tape used by previous owner to attempt same repair.

I would lift it to make sure it was even. Pressed with my finger along it. If some comes or seeps through use right away a thumb nail and have a paper towel with alcohol to wipe it away. Keep turning to a clean side of the wet paper towel or you'll be just wiping with glue.
