    I need to re-attach the top of my Solara rear window, and as such, watched many videos. This was by far the best. The process was the cleanest, easiest, and most thorough. I couldn't feel more confident and am ordering the necessary supplies today. Thank you for producing this excellent video!

    I performed this repair on a '05. I completely removed the glass from the fabric and cleaned everything very well prior to re-adhering. A full, all around re-glue resulted in a perfect adhesion all around, eliminating any gaps that may leak and eliminating all old adhesive that would fail just like the other. I also supported the interior of the glass with a pair of pillows for support and positioning of the glass. The repair was a 100% success that never leaked and never pulled apart. The 3M product and the clamps shown with the strips to evenly distribute the clamping load are essential. Take your time and you'll have the same success!

    It's almost 3:00 am and can't believe I ran across your video. I've been trying to find a solution to my back window detaching for two years now! Thank you so much for this excellent video. Local upholstery place wanted nearly $3k to replace my top and take my car for 2-3 weeks - I was never going to do that! With your video, less than $100 in materials and tools, and about an hour of work and I was DONE. I'm only 3 days after the fix, but it looks and seems perfect to me so far. I haven't done a 'water tight' test yet, nor have I put the top down yet, I figure the longer it sits, the safer it will be. But I'm confident. Thanks again for the wonderful detail and video. You made it easy. A COUPLE OF SMALL THINGS that I'd add is that I would wear latex gloves, as I managed to get some of the Window Weld on my fingers and it's a bear to clean up. I also got a small smudge on the blanket that I used on the inside to prop up the window, but I used one that I didn't care about. So, warning to folks that you should use something that could get some goop and might stain...and protect the hands unless you want black fingers for a few days. Heck, with the >$2800 that I saved, I can buy a new blanket and get a pedicure, LOL. Again, thanks SO MUCH!.

    The calendar tells me that this remark is about a four year old video.
    This calm, cool and collected DIY production is top shelf. It's the kind of informative info exchange that demonstrates what UA-cam could have been instead of what it has become. It should be required viewing for those that aspire to DIY video production.
    Thanks.

    Wish I had researched this a few months ago. The window was almost completely separated from the top on my 2005 Chrysler Sebring. I opted to buy a new top and installed it myself. I spent around $500 on the project. The top still had a lot of life left in it and I didn't understand why there wasn't a way to re-glue it back in place. Thanks for a well detailed video. I know what to do in the future!

    thank you for the video. very helpful. just finished rear window glass reglue on neighbor's pontiac solstice convertible. pleased to report a successful outcome and major cost savings. neighbor reported getting repair quotes from local body shops starting at $1500 to upwards of $3000+ with no guarantee of success. many shops turned down the repair altogether. cost as a DIY repair: clamps (6): $40, primer: $32, windo-weld glue: $30, total $103. labor time: a couple of hours start to finish. definitely worth a shot as DIY project.

  • @DavidKnapp-ou8xs

    One thing I might add is to clean the bonding surfaces with acetone before applying primer if dirt has accumulated . Also I ordered an extra set of suction cups on Amazon as the length of my repair was pretty long.
    I used flexible paint stir sticks to spread the load as well.
    Because the top was stretched away from the glass, which caused the seperation in the first place, I made sure the top was all the way up making the old bonding surface on the glass stick up about 1/4" from the new bonded area. Hopefully this will relieve some of the tension.
    I've had luck putting left over adhesives in the fridge for later use. Will try it with these two components.

    So I also have a 2005 SRT-6 Convertible that had the glass fall out. I had a friend help me (and I'm glad I did) as there is one BIG caveat to this procedure that is glossed over because your car didn't have the same issue. In the video your car only had the top part come unglued. Mine on the other hand had both sides and the top come unglued. The big difference is that the glass now sags so that when you prop the window up with pillows the roof line no longer lines up with the glass. If you have a top that needs both the roof and sides re-glued you will need a friend help push the window up into place and hold it there when setting the Clamps. My friend also had to use pliers to pull the top down over the glass when setting the clamps. It became a VERY messy job, VERY quickly.. however, it did work and after LOTS of scraping of excess Urethane, the glass is back in again!

      Paul, I too thought that was a good idea as I didn't trust my hands being steady through this process. So, I lined the window with blue painters tape. Smart, right? I caulked my window and had the window weld end up on the taped edge. However, I should have pulled the tape earlier. I left it on until the next day (12+ hours after window weld). The window weld would not come off of the tape without the scrapper blade. So it didn't really help me. This might have worked if I would have pulled the tape earlier but I was worried about losing the contact via the clamps. Oh well. I have to do it again. My window was detached 3/4 of the way when I did it the first time. When I went for a drive to see if it would stay attached the remaining 1/4 that was Chrysler glued came undone. I am going to tape it and try to pull it off earlier and then place the clamps. Keep you posted.

    This video is very informative. On a 1997-2004 Corvette C5 convertible, if the entire window has unglued, do I start with the top? Let it dry, then get the sides and bottom? or do the entire window and let the backpressure of the pillows hold the sides and bottom in place? Will I need more than 6 clamps if I do the entire window at one time? These run from $45-$70 for 6 of them depending upon where they are bought. Whichever, the project is still far less than a $3000.00 new top and the trouble of the installation.

    Meant to ask previously. Did you do this job with the top closed or open? Most vids i've
    seen have the top open to make it easier to work with the material. Thanks.

    The problem I'm having is the canvas seems to have shrunk and I don't know how to stretch it to reach the glass? Otherwise your process looks pretty easy. My glass at the top and the bottom.
    The top canvas connects easily with the glass where is the bottom is one or two inches short? Don't know how to glue it when I can't get it to reach?

    Great Video! I do have a question about attaching a plastic window to my old canvas top. I can't figure out how to hold it in while the adhesive dries. The clamps won't work b/c there is nothing to support them since the window is not in yet. Have you had any experience with plastic window reattachements. THanks!

    My glass is off except for one small section. Should I glue in sections, or the whole window at once?

    • @bigbluebox6597
      @bigbluebox6597  5 років тому +2

      I recommend doing it in sections, and starting opposite the side that is currently intact. That way you ensure that your fabric will fit well across the full width of the glass. If the area that is intact is very small (only a few inches), you may have to extend that area with the new glue before you jump over to the other side. Being patient and going slow is the key to not making a mess out of it.

      @@bigbluebox6597 3/4 of my Chrysler Crossfire window was detached. I fixed the 3/4 with the 3M Primer and 3M Window Weld. The 1/4 that was still factory attached seemed to keep the entire window in a good position to reattach the 3/4. However, within a few weeks after driving the car in the Atlanta heat the factory attached 1/4 now became detached. I was very disappointed. I had to buy all of the 3M products again. I still think that it would be a difficult project if it was entirely detached. This is just an FYI.....keep the faith.

    • @garyburns1139
      @garyburns1139 4 роки тому +2

      I should have said in the previous post that fixing 3/4 of the window and then the 1/4 at separate instances is still better than the $3,000/$4,000 that I was quoted at the car repair shop for a total replacement. Just remember if you are buying a convertible you are going to repair the back window at some point. Why wouldn't the manufacturers stitch this into a pocket 3/4 around the window and glue it? This fella did an excellent job on the video.
