- In this video, I demonstrate how to set up a weight and balance profile in ForeFlight for your aircraft. Once you set up the profile, weight and balance calculations are a breeze!

Finding the TCDS online is extremely helpful. You should make a similar video on finding all the airworthiness directives for an aircraft!
That's a great idea! I'll put something together.
Glad I found this tutorial video you created!!! I've been wanting to create a W&B Profile for a 172 I'm renting.
Glad you found it helpful!
This video was super helpful and informative, thanks!
Your content is absolutely priceless. I can’t thank you enough. Always learning new material watching your content. Thank you so much 🙌🏾
Great to hear!
This is actually the first chance I've had to watch this whole video. You make it so simple! Awesome video!
Thanks!
@@SethLakeDPE no problem
Great demo. Very helpful. One thing.............not sure how you saved loads at the end. What did you hit to pull up data box?
Excellent video Mr. Lake! Finally, someone making a video of applying the skills needed to make a proper W&B profile. One question- what if there is an STC increase in total useful load of the aircraft (due to a more powerful engine upgrade)? My new useful load is 2550, instead of the original 2300.
Definitely use that new weight on your profile. Also make sure the weight and balance was updated by the mechanic or shop that completed the new STC
@@SethLakeDPE I realized it clearly states the new forward station CG limit in the “limitations” of the STC.
Thanks for the clear explanation. Very helpful.
You're welcome!
Great stuff as always!!!!
👍
Very timely. Thanks, Seth!
You're welcome!
Fantastic vid. Very clear and easy to understand.
Great to hear! Glad you found it helpful!
Great tutorial. Thanks a lot for posting it.
You're welcome!
This is excellent, thank you
You're welcome!
Thanks for the video, very informative and well taught.....
You're welcome and thank you for watching!
This is good stuff! I'm glad I found this. I am starting to focus on my instrument, so this is very helpful.
Great!
This video was awesome. I would love to see you do a similar style with the Foreflight performance profiles!
Thanks! Great idea! I will add that to the list.
Perfect timing Seth! Checkride tomorrow, and this was the last annoying thing I had to do flying a N model that I hadn’t flown yet. I used the loading graph and used that data to find the arm. I can’t believe they didn’t put a fuel arm as simply in the 172 POH. And that data sheet was pure gold as I’ve been looking for those mins and max for awhile. Awesome awesome video, and it’s something I’ve seen a lot of CFI’s get wrong as well. My updated weight and balance is set up now. I wish they made it easy to overlay a utility category. Thanks again!
Good to hear. Best of luck tomorrow, I'm sure you'll do great. Let me know how it goes!
Hey Seth. Great video. Thank you. I fly the C72RG. The TCDC doesn't say "or less" like the fixed gear 172. What effect does that have on the ForeFlight setup of the CG range?
You're still good to go. There isn't a minimum weight that I'm awere of for the Cardinal
Hi Seth. Loved your video - actually I like all your videos. I would like to use this feature of foreflight but I'm having a really hard time with something and was hoping you could help me out. I fly at an aeroclub on an airforce base. All of the planes there are T-41C's. And I'm finding it impossible to locate the TCDS for this aircraft so that I can get the CG limits. Do you have any suggestions for where I could get this information? Closest I could find on the FAA website is the T-41A but that's definitely not correct. Thanks!
I'll have to research that. If you can't find the TCDS, the aircraft's weight and balance should list everything needed to build a profile in ForeFlight.
Great video! Thank you for sharing. Question - I noticed you don’t factor in the oil, though it is included in the POH W&B problem. The TCDS for the 172 indicates that the BEW includes undrainable oil only. Should I add a station for oil in ForeFlight?
It depends on how the most recent weight and balance was done. It should indicate if the oil was full or if it just had undrainable oil. The most conservative thing to do, though, would be to assume it had full oil. For most people, I would suggest adding the weight of your max oil level to the basic setup of the aircraft.
@@SethLakeDPE Thank you! 👍
Seth, should the max fuel weight be based on usable fuel since the basic empty weight includes unusable fuel? Not a huge difference at these weights but just checking my understanding. Thanks for the great videos!
It depends on how it was weighed but that's a really good question. Technically, basic empty weight should include unusable fuel.
Hey Seth- I followed all of this video but got stuck when I went o the desktop version of ForeFlight and did not see the tab like I see on this video to add a new w/b profile
It should be there but the newer update may put it in a different spot.
Thanks, Seth! Very thorough and we can share one correct WB ForeFlight with the other Club members electronically. Also…That’s a super cool olive fleece jacket you are wearing in the video. What is it? Where can one buy it?
Yes, being able to share a W&B profile is very helpful. My fleece is a Eddie Bauer one I picked up a couple of years ago. Eddie Bauer is my unofficial clothing sponsor 😆. I get all of my clothes from there.
@@SethLakeDPE thank you!
With multiple fuel tanks: Add them into the Aircraft W&B profile, in the order in which they fill or drain. When you do a partial fill or use up some fuel, ForeFlight will use the first tank you added, then the next, next. I had a problem in the LearJet I fly wherein it would fill the Fuselage Tank first. This would greatly throw off the Wt&Bal. I deleted it and added it back in, now it's fixed. I think FF calls this "Fuel Sequencing" and says it's not available with a scratch built airplane profile.
* Spread this around. FF doesn't have the answer.
Great information, thank you!
Another great video 😊
Thanks!
The music at the beginning is very distracting.
Sorry you think that
That’s no problem though. The content is very informative. Good job. 👍
