I'm to understand there are only a few vocalists in the rock era who supposedly have/had perfect pitch. I remember seeing something a few years ago that Ann Wilson and Chris Cornell are both considered to have perfect pitch. Those are the two I remember from what I saw in the piece I watched. There are possibly others, but I'm not remembering them at this time.
Ann Wilson is from Seattle and at that time there was an opera trained signer who gave lessons to rock groups. She learned how to not only sing powerfully but also safely. Ann today still has serious pipes and a lot is due to her technique.
She is such an incredible powerhouse.... There are lots to choose from in their catalog, but "Crazy On You" displays her insane pipes - raw power. They have some soft ballads too.
She has so much range, volume and inflection in her voice, it's amazing!!! And her sister, Nancy is one of the best female guitarists who ever lived. She's the Blonde
She and her sister were like the first female rock band. I saw them when they were that age. :) And so was I. She still sounds great. Listen to her sing Stairway to heaven.
Background to this song: The Wilson sisters revealed in various interviews that the song was about Heart's anger towards an ad Mushroom Records placed in trade publications implying that Ann and Nancy were lesbians having an affair. The song focuses on Ann's rage towards a promoter who came up to her after a concert in Detroit asking how her "lover" was. She initially thought he was talking about her then-boyfriend - band member Michael Fisher. After the promoter revealed he was talking about her sister Nancy Wilson, Ann became angry and went back to her hotel room to write the song. Nancy put suitably angry music to the words to complete the song comparing the sleazy side of music to a dangerous fish. Source:Songfacts
I'm glad you finally heard the greatest female voice ever in the rock music genre. She was also incredibly enchanting on stage. Lots of good hits by Heart - my personal fave is 'Straight On' with its funky bass line. Enjoy!
saw them at the last Mississippi River Festival held at SIUE. (late 80s?) the encore was a cover of Led Zeppelins' Been a Long Time and Nancy sounded every bit as good as Jimmy Page!
YES! Lex, that look of awe and amazement is the correct response to Ann Wilson's voice! And Nancy Wilson (guitar) is no slouch either. Not bad on the eyes either. Especially with her high kicks she started doing later in Heart's career. Great reaction you two!
Ann and Nacy Wilson played a behind the scenes significant part in the emergence of the Grunge scene in Seattle. They really nurtured those bands through connections, studio time, I think occasionally letting some crash in their basements, etc.
Ann Wilson kills it on the heavier stuff but the ballads Heart has done are equally impressive. Their later hits were more poppy but Ann's voice made it enjoyable...Absolutely love Heart.
Both Ann and Nancy Wilson are amazing. I agree with all the other requests to watch their version of Stairway to Heaven. They played with Jason Bonham, who is the son of the late John Bohnam (the drummer of Led Zeppelin who passed away in 1980). I read that the members of Led Zeppelin watching the performance did not know in advance that Jason would be playing, so it was quite emotional.
Robert Plant said when he saw Jason that he was upset with himself, he said "I should've had him here for his fathers sake" Robert and John were best friends since childhood.
One of the greatest songs of all time. As a an older guitarist this was the first time I heard harmonics on a guitar. It was a wonder I didn't break the neck on my les paul trying to get that treble bar sound.
I have played with and seen many great bands. Heart was the best concert I've ever seen in my life. They are so powerful. Please check out some of their live performances you will not be disappointed. Love you all couch gang for life
Heart was one of my top favorites..."Even it up" and "Crazy on you" are two more songs you should really listen to from Heart. Fleetwoo Mac with their female lead singer Stevie Nicks is definantely another one for sure. There's just too many to mention. Thank you for the reaction video :)
To say Ann Wilson has pipes is an understatement!! 80's Heart has some great pop hits but 70's Heart is where it's at, pure Rock & Roll!! Check out Magic Man, Crazy on You, and Sing Child all from The Dreamboat Annie Album....Also, their cover of Stairway to Heaven Live from The Kennedy Center Honors is such a great performance to check out
Heart was quite literally my very first favorite band. When I was a baby in the fall of 1984/winter of 1985 my mother would walk around the living room with me screaming, hoping that a Heart song would come on MTV, when it would, apparently, my head would spin to the TV and I'd just stare silently. Cassettes didn't work, from what I've been told, I would just get mad that I couldn't see them. So my father wound up buying a VCR just to tape their videos so I could watch them, apparently I wore out several recordings. Yeah, I was a huge, tiny, Heart fan.
Lex says she likes it rough.🤣 I think it was Tina Turner who said, "We never, ever do nothing easy. We always do it nice, and rough." So you're in good company cuz Tina Turner is the GOAT.

You two are so cute! I like the way your so open to every song and I'll tell you heart was a little before my time. I was born in 67 so was a teen in the 80s but heart was still played at party's, get togethers and was regularly on the radio rock stations. They didn't have fancy studio equipment like we have today so ultimate respect to them. What you heard was amazing raw talent. Doesn't get better than that! ✌️
The Wilson sisters brought a whole new dynamic to the face of rock - hundreds of female- fronted bands tried to emulate this, &, as you assert Brad, couldn't really pull it off; there are of course, a few exceptions, but Heart was there first - & frankly, it shall never be bettered. 'Barracuda' is their seminal masterpiece....it really doesn't get much better than this - Happy New Year, Brad & Lex !!
Ann Wilson has an incredible voice. She and her sister Nancy will wow you at the Kennedy Center honors performing Led Zeppelins Stairway to heaven with Robert Plant Jimmy Page John Paul Jones attending and deceased member John Bonham's son playing drums.
Ann Wilson in my opinion is best female singer of all time! She sounds EXACTLY the same no matter if it’s a recording or live! I did see them live probably 18 years ago and was blown away. They preformed Stairway to Heaven for a tribute concert for Led Zeppelin and OMG you will get chills! Her voice blows me away!
And lest we not forget sister and guitarist Nancy Wilson drivin the tempo and power of the song with that mean riff! And Michael Derosier slappin the skins!
To say that Ann is a rare talent is a gross understatement. She is a phenomenon, like Grace Slick. Nancy is phenomenal at what she does, as well. Incredible.
If you enjoyed Ann Wilson’s voice, you should enjoy Floor Jansen as well, on the same level as Ann Wilson vocally but surpasses her when it comes to live stage presence. She’s the 3rd/current lead singer for Nightwish. Don’t let any preconceptions you may have heard about Nightwish keep you from checking them out. Yes the original vocalist was 100% operatic… but she hasn’t been in the band for 16 years now. Floor can do the operatic, but her voice has ridiculous range in style/texture and she brings that to Nightwish. I’ve suggested them in super chat and discord many times, as have others. I’m hoping you guys will give them a 2-3 song taste because the music can vary from full on heavy/thrash metal to big symphonic metal (without operatic vocals) to folk metal. Short intro list to get you posted in a direction that sounds the most interesting to you: - Ghost Love Score (Wacken 2013); 10 min epic/grand structured as a score that you would hear through a 10 min sequence of movie scenes; cinematic sound scape. - Storytime (Wacken 2013); upbeat/faster tempo and cadence; super catchy hook; one of their more “mainstream” structured songs but still epic. - Romanticide (Wacken 2013); pure metal, thrash and heavy; vocals with the bassist (who is also a vocal lead in some songs and back in even more). - Weak Fantasy (Tampere 2016); drum solo intro; great lyrical content for Brad to sink his teeth into; dual vocals. - Noise (music video); great lyric content for Brad; amazing music video to match the lyrics. Live Nightwish is best Nightwish. All those live links are from official live albums, top quality. Symphonic metal has that epic nature that is so well suited for live performances and Floor’s stage presence is a rare talent, truthfully. Always use official live vids or music vids. There are good CC lyrics and NW’s label never blocks (content I’d yes, block no).
I came on here to see if someone would mention Nightwish. If they want to hear more high female voices singing rock, gotta listen to Floor with Nightwish!

Background to this song:
The Wilson sisters revealed in various interviews that the song was about Heart's anger towards an ad Mushroom Records placed
in trade publications implying that Ann and Nancy were lesbians having an affair. The song focuses on Ann's rage towards a promoter who came up
to her after a concert in Detroit asking how her "lover" was. She initially thought he was talking about her then-boyfriend - band member
Michael Fisher. After the promoter revealed he was talking about her sister Nancy Wilson, Ann became angry and went back to her hotel room to
write the song. Nancy put suitably angry music to the words to complete the song comparing the sleazy side of music to a dangerous fish.

Except it was Roger Fisher who did the music and the great guitar intro.
I'm glad you finally heard the greatest female voice ever in the rock music genre. She was also incredibly enchanting on stage. Lots of good hits by Heart - my personal fave is 'Straight On' with its funky bass line. Enjoy!
Two sisters in this band who are true rock goddesses.
This Sister's Ann and Nancy always put on a great show! Loved them since the 70's!
saw them at the last Mississippi River Festival held at SIUE. (late 80s?) the encore was a cover of Led Zeppelins' Been a Long Time and Nancy sounded every bit as good as Jimmy Page!

Thing about a good, naturally powerful, high-pitched voice like hers is that it cuts through the mix effortlessly. You literally _cannot_ miss it.
It's definitely a genetic gift for a singer.
YES! Lex, that look of awe and amazement is the correct response to Ann Wilson's voice! And Nancy Wilson (guitar) is no slouch either. Not bad on the eyes either. Especially with her high kicks she started doing later in Heart's career. Great reaction you two!
Ahhhh Lex's face when Ann's voice hits and shows once again she is the QUEEN.
I love Lex’s reactions BUT… when Brad smiles huge at the majestic female voices it makes me so excited! Classic song!
Ann and Nacy Wilson played a behind the scenes significant part in the emergence of the Grunge scene in Seattle. They really nurtured those bands through connections, studio time, I think occasionally letting some crash in their basements, etc.
Yup Alice In Chains and the Wilson sisters have always been close. They definitely had an impact on the Seattle scene forsure.
@@puppetmaster8551 that AIC cover of Barracuda with Gretchen Wilson and Nancy on guitar pretty damn good, too
@@quinnosborn3441 ya that shit is fantastic, great performance.
The way Lex’s eyes light up when she started singing was just delightful and adorable.
The Wilson sisters are Icons. Greatest rock vocalist ever, now in her 70s still got it.
Heart is in the stratosphere! I still love you, Lex!
one of the best live song videos of all time: SOUND QUALITY, INTENSITY, RHYTHMIC TIGHTNESS, DRIVE, VISUAL APPEAL AND SEXY AS ALL HELL!!!!!!!!!!!!
Joan Jett is another female rocker that will blow your mind.
Their cover of Stairway to Heaven is pretty epic.
As epic as epic gets!
In front of Zeppelin no less
go listen to Rock n Roll from the live album . ua-cam.com/video/16EmojTRX4w/v-deo.html
"She is like a bird". Brad thinking ooh boy here we go again and than thinking I love her so much. 🙂
Ann Wilson kills it on the heavier stuff but the ballads Heart has done are equally impressive. Their later hits were more poppy but Ann's voice made it enjoyable...Absolutely love Heart.
THE GREATEST FRONTWOMAN OF ROCK!
One of the greatest rock voice of all time
One of the greatest songs of all time. As a an older guitarist this was the first time I heard harmonics on a guitar. It was a wonder I didn't break the neck on my les paul trying to get that treble bar sound.
The Wilson sisters were and are truly spectacular musicians.
I have played with and seen many great bands. Heart was the best concert I've ever seen in my life. They are so powerful. Please check out some of their live performances you will not be disappointed. Love you all couch gang for life
I saw them at an outdoor concert, and even though it was somewhat breezy, it still sounded like a studio recording. They are amazing live!
Check out Magic Man, Crazy on You, and Sing Child all from The Dreamboat Annie Album....Also, their cover of Stairway to Heaven Live from The Kennedy Center Honors is such a great performance to check out
The best female voice in rock n roll, from any era. She still sounds great.
Lex says she likes it rough.🤣
I think it was Tina Turner who said, "We never, ever do nothing easy. We always do it nice, and rough."
So you're in good company cuz Tina Turner is the GOAT.
I wasn't even gonna go there.
Unleash the archers, incredible female vocalist, insane musicianship, and an undeniable ability to make you appreciate music even more. Try the tracks awakening, soul bound or legacy.
It's a criminal shame that they aren't recognized more. Brit is a BEAST and Scott, Grant and Andrew are WORLD class.
The two women in the band HEART are actual sisters in real life. One thg has an incredible voice and the other can play a mean guitar and harmonize with her sister perfectly. Watch their performance of the Kennedy center celebration of Led Zeppelin.
Ann is awesome not too many female singers can sing the way she can her voice is so powerful and her sister Nancy is unbelievable on the guitar they put out a lot of good songs can't say enough about the band . So so powerful
Ann’s a beast
A sweet beautiful one!
Yeah, broke some barriers for sure.
Super catalog of music btw.
Most powerful female vocalist of all time, bar none. There really is no argument to be had. Ann dominates the pack.
YOU DAMN RIGHT BROTHER! ANN CAN BRING THE FIRE LIKE NO OTHER!!
I think Pat Benatar is on the same level.
@@papamaniac2410 pretty damn close yeah. I've actually met Pat a couple decades ago. Amazing person. She was playing the casino I worked at. My buddy was security head for the event and let me backstage to meet her. She is ridiculously tiny.
@@dalehammers4425 She always appears to be well grounded when I've seen her in interviews. I am jealous of you meeting her. LOL
I grew up listening to this band , yes the the two sisters were an absolute show steelers, but it was the whole package really they had an awesome band behind them they were very lucky.
Yep - far too many people have bought into the BS than Ann and Nancy have been spreading that the original band was nothing but their backing band.
It's a JOY to watch your reactions to Ann Wilson's stellar voice!
Greatest female rock vocalist of all time and one of the greats of both men and women.
Ann for me will always be the queen of female rock. It's such a shame there aren't anymore great female bands with this kind of talent and intensity.
I've seen them many times in concert and she brings it every time. Great group!
HEART...Ann & Nancy Wilson...2 Legendary Rock Goddesses who are Gypsy
in their hearts. :-)
Nightwish is an amazing modern day band with a female lead singer. I hope you can check them out soon. They have a LARGE rabbit hole you can fall down.
I haven't heard this song for years. Way more epic than I remember.
The GOAT of female rockers! She wrote this about the "casting couch" that still exists in music and Hollywood.
Best female rock voice.
Pat Benatar is one of the few female rock singers that is on Ann's level.
🤣🤣🤣🤣
I would classify her as more pop than rock, but to your credit there is a very thin line between the two.
@@TwistedSisler Heartbreaker, Promises in the Dark, Hell is for Children and Hit me with your best shot are pure rock. She had some ballads later in her career just as Heart did later in the 80's.
yeah right! what the hell? Pat Benatar was on the radio from 77 to 95?, one great song after another, love her
@@raymo6795 just because it's on the radio doesn't make it good.
I saw Heart in 1979 when I was a young teenager. Heart was a big influence on me. They were cool & they were sisters. I would like to see them in concert now too.
Seeing her live back in those days was as about as good as it gets.
Saw Heart 3 times. Always a great show.
Yes she is! Don’t miss Heart’s “Crazy on You”
One of the Greatest voices in rock n roll male or female. She put the rock world on notice
This was the "me too" movement calling the pricks out back when. Sublime and groundbreaking.
She’s still doing live shows, and Tom Bukovac is playing lead guitar for her on the road. Pretty bad ass. She’s one of the greats
Ann Wilson has an incredible voice. She and her sister Nancy will wow you at the Kennedy Center honors performing Led Zeppelins Stairway to heaven with Robert Plant Jimmy Page John Paul Jones attending and deceased member John Bonham's son playing drums.
Heart's cover of Stairway To Heaven is absolute beautiful perfection.
NO BIGGY Its just 70s Rock and roll ,, BUT I LIKE IT
And lest we not forget sister and guitarist Nancy Wilson drivin the tempo and power of the song with that mean riff! And Michael Derosier slappin the skins!
I just saw them in 2019 they still sound great live, been doing it almost 50 years.
I’ve seen Heart three times, 1977,78 & 80. All the songs that get radio play are fantastic but the one I liked the most live was Bebe Le Strange.
What a voice.
Another great female voice... Linda Ronstadt.
Awesome you’re doing Heart!
To say that Ann is a rare talent is a gross understatement. She is a phenomenon, like Grace Slick.
Nancy is phenomenal at what she does, as well. Incredible.
Kennedy Center Honors
Heart paying tribute to Led Zeppelin covering Stairway To Heaven is a MUST!
You will not regret it!!👍
"If the real thing don't do the trick, you better make up something quick!". One of my favorite lyrics of all time!
Short intro list to get you posted in a direction that sounds the most interesting to you:
- Ghost Love Score (Wacken 2013); 10 min epic/grand structured as a score that you would hear through a 10 min sequence of movie scenes; cinematic sound scape.
Dog and Butterfly. Deep lyrics and much more mellow vibe from Heart.
Man, Lex's face when Ann started singing ... that is EXACTLY the reaction expected with this song. Still their best song, a perfect show of what they can do.
The Wilson sisters are goddesses of rock!
Nancy Wilson is one of the greatest rock guitarists of all time, too.
