In my humble opinion, Ann Wilson is one of the greatest rock and roll vocalists of all time of any gender. The next song that was about to play was Magic Man. You'll definitely want to check that song out!
I totally agree. I've had the pleasure of seeing, in my opinion, three of the greatest vocalists in rock. Ann Wilson way back in 1977, Steve Perry in 1982 & 1983 and Freddie Mecury in 1980 & 1982.
I Understand you’re thinking back to a time you didn’t live through but let there be no mistake, this is NOT disco. This would be classic ROCK. Heart fans will collectively pull that arrow out of our Hearts now😏
I think that is coming mainly from Ann's vocals, because it's rare in rock to have such melodic, soaring, powerful vocals. Also, I don't think we give disco enough credit for the spectrum of musical style it covers, some of which overlaps with rock.
Completely agreed, she is one the few rock guitarists who successfully incorporated classical guitar within the rock and roll framework, the only other guitarist who did it as well as her was Robby Krieger from the Doors
That note you accidentally played at the end is the opening of "Magic Man", their other major banger from the debut album. Play that one too! And yeah, she was talking about "something else" :^). "I was a willow last night in my dream, I bent down over a clear running stream, sang you the song that I heard up above, and you kept me alive with your sweet flowing love..."
There is such a short list for greatest female rock vocalist all-time. Pat Benatar, Stevie Nicks, Joan Jett, Tina Turner, Debbie Harry (Blondie), Terri Nunn (Berlin "take my breath away"), Dolores O'Riordan (Zombies), Alanis Morissette...Cant forget her sister Nancy Wilson who actually sang lead in their only #1 hit "These Dreams"... but ANN WILSON just has the total package. Her voice in this song and even during the song of theirs called "Alone" when she belts out that high note "alone" WHEW!! My fav are female voices EVER are Alanis, Pat, and Ann
@@Habeev07 I have to revise my opinion a bit. If we are talking about straight rock, I still think Ann is the best. But for overall singing ability, my number 1 female vocalist is Floor Jansen (the queen of metal from the band Nightwish). She can sing anything: metal, rock, pop, opera, and everything in-between. She did a cover of Heart's song "Alone" and Ann Wilson said it was the best she'd ever heard.
Has to be the 1st time I've seen John Travolta dance moves for a Heart song. Disco, Lex? It's why I love these reactions. You feel the music and say what you are thinking. Always fun. Keep it real.
The song's lyrics tell of a person's desire to forget all the problems of the world during one night of passion. During an interview on the television series Private Sessions in 2007, Ann Wilson revealed the song was written in response to the stress caused by the Vietnam War and social unrest in the United States in the early 1970s
The Bee Gees songs, like "Stayin' Alive" and "Night Fever" were among the Disco songs at the top of the Pop charts when this song came out, and they were fun because they were easy to dance to, but the Rock songs were the ones that gave us life!

That's sister Nancy playing guitar on the intro. She's also a great singer. Ann is an outstanding vocalist. Strong and beautiful voice, reminds me of Grace Slick. Heart was a Great concert. So glad I saw them back in the day.
Maybe they should do a whole week of disco tunes to disabuse her of such an affront. It may be painful, but at least she wouldn't confuse Classic Rock with disco.
Heart in the 70s was a little more folk/medieval inspired rock, in the vein of some Led Zep. Note the nature imagery in this song, the reference to "wild man." In the 80s Heart went more to commercial pop rock ballads.
That acoustic intro is performed by Ann's sister Nancy, co-founder, rythym guitarist and backing vocals. Many other guitarists have spoken of her "hands of stone".

I know what Lex means about that "fresh" melodic riff that follows the heavier, distorted riff. (Contrast) adds texture & makes any form of art more interesting. As does empty space at times.
