I love those roofs! Here in Aus we have corrugated iron that can be bastardly slippery especially if there is a bit of moisture in the air. I clean gutters of a house with those sand shingle tiles the other week and it was so grippy!
I used to do everything your doing to clean the gutters. Great advice, buttttttt... I got a rain gutter blower on HSN. It’s amazing. After 20 odd years of almost breaking my neck. Lol This machine goes on your back, and like a leaf blower, blows all debri out of the gutters. No ladder or precarious roof positions. You just walk along the side of the house with gutters. It has an extendable shepherds hook that slips into the gutter. You just walk and let it blow. It’s the best. Used it for 3 years now. Funny. My neighbor saw me at work, with the contraption on, laughed at me, and thought I jerry rigged it. Haha.
I have a single story home. Climb on roof, blow the leaves out of the gutters, then use my mulching rider to grind up the leaves. Those cheap gutter screens with fine holes in them do not work. I scooped new neighbor's gutters of about 2-3 inches of filth. And did it stink! Years of build up. Had to pull every screen out. He threw them in the garbage.
Yeah Ive done the leafe blower method too. Mine get super black and mucky so I have to be careful when it sprays it all down on driveway and side of house. But if I hose it off right away its OK. Yeah most of those screens dont do much unless you get the expensive ones and even then sometimes certain tree leaves still get through
I usually blow them all out with a leaf blower, but I do the sections above patios, decks, front doors, etc with my hands to avoid making a mess on people's stuff. Then I stick the end of the blower into the downspouts to clear those, get down and blow, rake and bag up the mess below. It's a tedious job when your doing it on multiple duplexes with no gable ends and gutters all the way around. No real quick way to do it, which is why I blow out as much as I can. It would take FOREVER for one person to clean roughly 500-ft of gutter, per building by hand.
@@JonnyDIY, Nope, I do it all from the roof. We're just talking single story, 4/12 type roofs though, so very walkable. I don't even look at roofs too tall or steep, personally. I take my blower, bucket, broom and window cleaning stuff (to clean skylights) and don't come back down until I'm done. Then I clean up down below. Sometimes I will clean the gutters from a ladder below, but I made a reach tool out of pvc pipe with a 3" scraper glued into it that allows me to reach about 8 feet both ways, so I only need to move the ladder every 16 feet or so if I do it that way. I always prefer to work smart than hard if I can lol.
@@lonewolfsurvival3453 awesome tips, that pvc scraper thing sounds like a cool tool. Yup always try and work smarter not harder. Older you get, better ways you figure out how to do things 👍
@@JonnyDIY , especially when you start to feel the aches and pains of working too hard in the younger years lol. Self-preservation starts to become more of a priority.
I'm possibly just starting on my own with a national company called clean pro gutters cleaning.. any inside scoop? Good news or bad news? Should I sign up or run for the hills? Also, my idea or technique that I like to do is like you get on the roof if its safe to do so and saves a lot of time versus standing on the ladder the whole time. Also, I would employ a combination of a short stick such as the one you used in this video and a leave blower with the mulching vacuum and bag so the wet stuff will come out and all of it dry and wet will get sucked into the bag rather than blown all over the roof gutters and sidewalls and driveway and saves a lot of time and extra steps of cleanup. I use those giant contractor trash bags and would keep the roll on my side with a huge carabiner hook so I can keep at it and do the full bags on the grass. I have a two speed corded leaf blower from black and decker such as yourself and man that tool is a beast. Don't need a super expensive gas powered blower. After getting some steady work, I'd prefer to purchase my own utility trailer and a large portable tank on it full of clean water with a small water pump with enough pressure to flush out the remaining dirt, sand, and grime out the gutters and the down spouts. That way I'm not using the customer's water supply. But you have to start Somewhere right?
Your ideas sound good. I personally would just start my own business doing it and wouldnt join someone else's business but thats just me. As long as you can make a living, either way works 👍
Looking at a few techniques to clean the eaves from my own property, getting on the roof seems the most convenient, only thing is its a fall hazard. Depending on the municipality and enforcement, fall protection and acceptable tie offs are needed. This is the biggest issue for residential roofs is the lack of anchor points. Even home owners can be fined for getting on their own roofs without fall protection if they are seen by bylaw officers. If you are doing this professionally and getting insurance, then i imagine this would be a requirement. There are other tools and techniques that might work, camera mounted on a telescopic vac hose or pressure washer, using a jetter to clear downspouts, some of these tools are a bit overkill for homeowners but might be usable for pros.
I’ve been doing it for five years on the side my recommendation is to do it from the top of the roof if you can get on the roof bring up some buckets put on some nice gloves that will protect your wrists and quickly just grab the debris as you go along put it in the buckets and they’ll be no mass on the ground. The reason people call me year to year is because I don’t put shit all over their yard and make it a mess I had a woman yesterday tell me she has tried so many people for so many years and has been so disappointed now she just calls me every time because I spend 10 extra minutes to do a better job trust me buckets by hand with gloves and by one of those things that goes down into the downspout with a little claw on it to get any clogs out
Yes they do, if leaves are dry or dry-ish. If leaves wet and mucky your blower may have trouble blowing all out. Mine will blow them out wet, but be ready with garden hose because it makes big mess on the concrete below as well as gets on sides of house and windows
I am afraid of heights, elderly and have screen guards, but the crap from oak trees that are over the house still clogs up the gutters. I can't get on a ladder and try to wash the gunk out.
Yes definitely. Problem in my area the leaves usually come down and clog the gutters the same week it starts raining 😥 Some years I have to do it twice.
Good job cleaning them by hand , but just place the debris in a bucket not on the ground. Bring a plastic bag up to the roof. Unproffessionals use blowers to clean muddied up gutters .. It makes a mess
Man all that does is make a huge mess I’ve done gutter cleaning now for five years on the side I do it very quickly with gloves on my hand and picking it up and putting it into a bucket pushing all that shit on the ground just makes the house look like shit or you just end up having to clean it up anyway on the ground and the yard looks like shit come on now don’t give people bad advice
+Joe. Rate goes off house size & 2 story more $$. But really depends on the area you'll be serving. Best bet is to check local competitors prices and go from there
That's the right way to clean them if it's your own house but for people that are watching your video and clean their client's, it's the wrong way to do it, you made a mess.
Hi Young man, do you really think that it's smart to introduce your hands anywhere??? Sometimes, you can find nails and all kind of dangerous things!!! Please, be more careful, will you? Thanks for your fingers.
Thanks youre right. I usually got hands all cut up doing this. I just got a new gutter scoop this year and some gloves. Ill post a video on the new scooper. For $4 I love it. Works great

LOL! Its just my California "accent" haha
Even if hes baked as hell hes got more sack and ability to work than me walking around up on that roof lol
Hes hella relatable
Well ya this is the day mommy kicked him outta the basement to clean the gutters for his weekly weed money

Do leaf blowers work on cleaning gutters?
Yes they do, if leaves are dry or dry-ish. If leaves wet and mucky your blower may have trouble blowing all out. Mine will blow them out wet, but be ready with garden hose because it makes big mess on the concrete below as well as gets on sides of house and windows

Sorry to hear. Yeah trees are great but boy they make a mess of roofs. May need to hire someone or ask a nice neighbor to help you clean them
Scoop out when the`re dry then no need to hose `em,save`s a step and water.Nor Cal we pay for water usage, meters.
Yes definitely. Problem in my area the leaves usually come down and clog the gutters the same week it starts raining 😥 Some years I have to do it twice.

Yes you're right, I use buckets sometimes if gutters are really mucky or lawn is all clean already 👍
no hi vis on the roof. What a cowboy
chris becks fuck off
Almost a young David Spade
Lol on one of my other videos, people are always calling me Joe Dirt 😂👍🏻
Jonny DIY 😂 Tell them to start paying ya as a double.
I hope you clean the jobsite afterward of all those leaves on the clients floor
Yes sir.
@@JonnyDIY u just use a rake or whatever to clean up?
Yep, rake and collect the gutter leaves and use hose to spray off and muck
@@JonnyDIY so yeah I'm thinking of starting my own gutter cleaning business...what's the going rate to charge customers to clean gutters?
+Joe. Rate goes off house size & 2 story more $$. But really depends on the area you'll be serving. Best bet is to check local competitors prices and go from there
Continuously walking on any roof will take years off its life....just a DIY so ya know...
Yes you're right, it wears the grit off the shingles some
David spade!
🤣👍🏻
That's the right way to clean them if it's your own house but for people that are watching your video and clean their client's, it's the wrong way to do it, you made a mess.
Yeah I'll use some 5 gallon buckets to keep the mess to a minimum some years. To each his own
I guess nobody knows what a rake and trash bags are after you get everything out of the gutter.
Can you upload a video showing us the right way to do it then?
@@JonnyDIY what a shonky worker. Lazy and messy.
Carry a 5gallon bucket with you. Drop the crap in bucket instead of all over the yard. That stuff is nasty looking
that's what I do some years, I switch things up how I'm feeling 😁👍🏻 have to clean gutters twice a season every year
Looks like Burbank
actually up in central california, used to live close to Burbank though. Wish I could afford a house there now!
Jonny DIY Seems no one can afford to move anywhere in California anymore.
nothing worse than a handyman that uses the standard 115 decibel blower. switch to a battery blower man, seriously.
Not enough power
WTF ABOUT SPOUTS PLUGGED
Fish a hose down them should unclog no problem 👍
