Today we, in a lighthearted fashion discuss the 3 "main" ACOG models.
Ta31,Ta11,Ta33. And try to make the case for each being the "best".

“My ACOG is best ACOG”
".... and all other acogs are the worst!"
Only if your acog is a ta31
"No, MY ACOG is best ACOG!"
"Here's my toy acog, here's my real acog"
"This is my ACOG there are many like it but this one is mine!"
The TA11 is factually the best, I proved it with facts and logic.
It's okay, I still accept you. Even if you had the worst argumentation out of all 3 of us.
TA33 DESTROYED WITH FACTS AND LOGIC
Q) Where does the Vortex 5x Spitfire prism stack up in this comparo, especially because it can take an MRDS?
@@seraph045 I bought that very vortex Spitfire 5x, broke it, and bought a TA31. The scope is mounted on a 308 bullpup. The ACOG is a vastly superior scope.
Acog glass is a lot cleaner, so at a 1x lower magnification I can see a cleaner target.
@@touge242 Good to hear, thanks. I want to love it but I’m wary of Chinese optics. I know Vortex has a great warranty, but I’d rather spend extra on something that just wouldn’t break to begin with, especially with supply chains as they are…I want to love it though and wish Trijicon had a similar product.
It's OK Hop, we know your ACOG is the girthiest, heaviest, and the longest.
I got range high with the 3.5 acog once, for those that desire eye relief more so than the field of view, its a great choice.
Thanks for these videos, it’s hard navigating these waters never having experience with any of this, so it helps a ton when I watch your guys’ videos on these topics
Great timing on this video for me. Looking at ACOGS right now for my SOPMOD I build. Great information.
I love the TA31 because I was trained on it. One of my favorite things about the ACOG is that it's fucking fantastic, and it's clone correct, AND it's been in use forever. It's the carry handle of our age. Both the 4x ACOG and the 3.5x ACOGs were issued on huge scales. (Army and USMC for 4x, USMC for 3.5x on M27, M249, etc)
Eye relief sucks, but I love everything else. One thing I'll note that hoplopfheil talked about in another video wrt LPVOs vs Elcan, yes, I can tell that unless you're literally just shooting known targets, adjusting magnification to get a better overall picture of what you're seeing is super useful. I had to use ACOGs in a forest, and trying to observe the OPFOR Marines I had a soda-straw-view problem, even with the HIGHEST FOV ACOG. LPVOs rock in the real world. Some of my heavier rifles I will never put an LPVO on, but they absolutely do have a huge use case for just finely adjustable magnification. The great things about ACOG is the weight and reticle and no battery and super durable.
Elcan does not fit into these tradeoffs well. 1x is great for CQB, 4x is fine for range, but just observing and getting an idea of what you're looking at in a remotely visually confusing environment begs for adjustable magnification.
It's a huge factor. People made the "Recce rifle" meme about it but it's downright useful for everybody. Positive target ID matters mil or civilian. Every situation.
The eye relief is overstated. If it’s on a 14.5-20 inch AR15 like intended it’s not going to give you scope eye, and after that it’s just a factor of moving the optic further back. I run my backup irons in front of my acog like the Canadians do.
@@lordofthepigs888 The only thing with the ACOG that makes me just go "y, pls change trijicon" is the RMR mount location at the rear instead of the front. everything else is really easy to work around
Why not just use binos instead of pointing a rifle at an unknown peraon?
If we needed eye relief then the military would have issued it to us.
I run a TA 31 on a Colt 6920, I just found the Kram riser ( i didn't know existed) that puts it up and back , makes it much better.
Excellent video! You highlighted all the reasons I chose to purchase the TA11 a number of years ago.
Great video. Thanks to all 3 of you, and especially to Nova. Her ear pro ROCKS! Aloha 🤙🏽
Not surprised that Hop likes the TA11 if you read between the lines its got tall in its designation
Whenever Hop complains about being a giant it’s one of the only times I feel ok about being a short king.
@@Matt-xc6sp You'd love motorcycles then. Pretty much all of the best ones are designed for guys who are like 5'6"-5'8". I'm only 6'0" and I find most Japanese motorcycles to be very cramped, even when they're not supposed to be cramped; I get there are some engineering limitations that make them that way in some senses, otherwise they'd just get too big and tall, but all the more reason its a short guy's paradise. Also, the shorter you are, the faster your bike goes; like, by a lot. Being 50-75lbs lighter than another guy will make a 500cc twin feel like a 650cc-750cc twin. Even just being 30lbs lighter makes a big difference on some bikes. A big weight difference is enough to make a noticeable difference with liter bikes too
After having a ta11 and ta31 I had recently gotten the ta47 and absolutely love it for close to mid range where I live.
I agree with two points on the TA31:
It's a live by the acog, die by the acog sight. You need to maintain your training to use it effectively. You don't just mount it and shoot away. There's a learning curve.
Eye relief. (the learning curve) Once you get set on it and train to find the eye relief and have it properly set up imho nothing beats the fov. It's just gorgeous.
The PA 2x is such a pleasure to shoot. Patiently waiting on PA to release a dot ready 3-5x
@@Bender_B._Rodriguez calm down buddy
@@Bender_B._Rodriguez if your optic is being shot your doing something wrong tactically anyway, at that point it doesn’t matter because you probably have a hole in you.
There are red dot ready 3x and 5x already. But theyre full size, definitely not micro prisms
Burris AR-332 and -536, SIG Bravo series
I can't wait for the release of their 5x microprism. They already have the 5x prism, but the micro is half the weight.
I finally sent it on a TA31F-G for my Bren 2. I was ready to dump it until I slapped on the Kram. Now I think it’ll be here to stay! Great video.
I didn't enjoy using ACOG's and finally ended on using Elcan Spectre's. Perhaps only having 1 eye helped me come to that conclusion? Can't be sure, don't remember what having 2 was actually like. These Elcan 's though have been beyond solid. Just 1 cycloptic shooters experience
Im a big fan of the Elcan DR
But it's actually called the elcant.
Everyone eventually sells them.
It's the most expensive optic no one wants to keep
I tried shooting with my friend who is left eye dominant and right handed. I learned that no magnified optic is the best optic.
@@davidb9323 I am right hand left eye.
Magnification is fine.
Rifle is left hand, pistol right hand.
I have zero issues with anything.
If I use rifle right hand I need to close an eye then force my eye to focus.
@@Bender_B._Rodriguez I too watched the Hop video.
I am so tempted to try a TA33. I have had a few ACOG's and the 33 is an itch I feel like I need to scratch.
Fantastic ACOG!!
Once again, thanks for training on camera so I don't have to. Again also, Mr. Facts is a good film maker that I would compare to David Lean. Hop continues to be the Sandor Clegane of gun reviewers, which is beautiful. I am afraid that I still only know Delta34 as an action star and me being the 28th laziest man in WY, I haven't yet given his role in the universe the consideration it is due. Thanks.
PA SLX 3X PRISM SCOPE GEN III 18.4oz but sweet, comes in 5x too. Would love to see y’all do a review and comparison to ACOG.
Shoutout to the SLX 3x Micro. Imm super happy with this new optic, thank you for diving into these optics!
I purchased the TA11 with the J reticle and the RMR probably 8 years ago. I still love it, probably picked it for the eye relief as I looked thru several of them and liked it the best.
The TA31D reticle is for m193 out of a 16 inch barrel
I went with a TA31 because that’s what I was use to in the military and put a rmr on top.
Holy shit. I just commented on one of Hop's videos the other day about waiting for you to drop the video on, "The Best ACOG". One of those deja vu moments . . .
I have a TA31, and it's great on an AR platform. Looking into both the TA11 and TA33 for an M14 platform, and I can't decide between the two. I'm leaning more towards the TA11, but it is quite a bit heavier than the TA33. Do you know what the center height of each are without their rail mounts?
ACOG Gang rise up!
but only if you like my acog.
@@BrassFacts he's on my side
Hey, you’re that guy from TFB!
@@borkwoof696 yes
Ive always wanted a ta11 for one of my 16" guns but i started with 14.5's and the ta31...my only regret on the ta31 would be that one time i paid MSRP for an RCO-M4CP that i wound up selling because i got it to replace a ta01nsn i was missing and as similar as they are i didnt care for the RCO that much. I had an RX01NSN as well, it worked okay but i got rid of it only about a week before a friend sent me a light transfer adjusting lens for it. The RX reticle was either too bright when it needed to be dim and dim or nearly non-visible when it needed to be brighter lol.
I only have one ACOG now, a salty surplus TA31RCO-M150 on a salty 80% block 1 clone and i love it. Def still want a 3.5x but ive spent so much time behind the 4x32 it pretty much works for whatever i use it for
I have a ta31 and a ta11. I just finished a new build and was deciding which optic I would put on top. I went with another ta11. The 3.5x is appropriate for where I live, in dense woods. And the eye relief! My god the eye relief!!! I agree the ta31 is really nice but you need to spend time with it. That was my second acog and it took me a while to warm up to it. I do think the ta11 is way easier to switch between magnified an un magnified. The “Biden” Aiming Concept lol
I own a Ta-44 acss, Ta-50 7.62x39, and Ta31F. Weight, glass, and durability are the biggest advantage to the acog over anything. The 44 is awesome up close and gives you a smidge of clarity at 100 yards. I'm not slower than a dot, but you do get wash out here and there like any acog. The 31 is awesome midrange as mentioned. I personally have no issue with the eye relief unless shooting from odd positions. I believe that optic needs an offset or top mount dot because of that, but with that is best on a carbine imo. The 50 is I think the better Ta33. It has less weight, almost the same eye relief and better FOV. It is probably the best all around acog if not using a red dot as well
“If not using a dot as well”
I’ve seen rmrs on TA50s? Or am I stupid?
@@NavYblu99 it has wings so yes you can run a top mounted dot on a Ta-50. I was just saying that I don't run a dot on my Ta-50.
Love the ta33 on my general purpose rifle.
Lightweight, robust, and dead simple to run.
Nothing to dial, flip, cant, etc and does everything I need. Don't need a red dot on top
I too have a TA-33 on my 13.9 AR. I live in a flat, forested area and magnification is a lowers requirement than weight and eye relief.
Great analysis! Great video! I love my Ta31!
im def goin ta11. better eye relieve and a tiny bit less fov and more bulk. but def an upgrade from my bravo 3
You should do a video about Bipods sometime. Personally I keep one on mine, out here in western CO I don’t know why you wouldn’t have one on there.
I went to the Trijicon Roadshow, I have a short but they were super helpful answering questions and had most optics there.
I don’t own an Acog, but the TA31 has 7.0 degrees FOV X 4 = 28 which is the highest I’ve seen. Better score than a 1-6x. Other Acogs are 10-20 when I get the math score of FOV X Max magnification.
Trijicon has the TA11 under their Compact Acog series, but has better eye relief than the TA50 3x micro prism.
TA33 11.1
TA31 28
TA11 19.25
TA31 36.6 Ft. @ 100 yards
TA44 1.5x16S 39Ft. @ 100 yards
The lightsaber/ beam saber form factor of the TA11 is a feature rather than a bug.
Ta50 3x seems best to me. Like 8 oz. Same fov as most lpvos a 3x. 25 ft at 3x. Descent eye relief and super low mount. Prefer the fixed 4x elcan but if going acog route prefer the ta50
The TA-110 is hands down the best ACOG.
If you want massive field of view, get a Belomo po4x24p, it has a massive 12° fov, putting the ta31 in its place with its tiny 7°
The TA01 NSN is what I used for a minute while serving. It was okay. The 3.5x ACOG that the marines use on the M27 is just superb.
Absolutely love the TA33. Describing it as a magnified Aimpoint is a really good way to put it.
Is the ta33 that much less durable than the other acogs? Looking to get into acogs as a shtf optic due to their batteryless operation and low weight
@@NobodyAtAll56 I have no reason to believe it's less durable in any way. The major downside of it is field of view, but otherwise it's amazing.
@@hfrog355 thanks for the response. I was curious about the apparent durability of the TA33 because of a comment Hop made during the video that wasn’t elaborated on. I think he said something like it made him feel like it was less durable than other acogs (maybe because of the light weight I suppose), but they never gave any examples of it breaking, so I thought I’d check the comments for someone who had a ta33 to ask
@@NobodyAtAll56 It is crazy light. But it's also quite small and relatively simple. They're great, if you can live with the small FOV and only 3x magnification.
I do love my TA11. Then again, it's the only ACOG I own. So there's that.
How are you still liking it?
I still like my old ACOG TA01 with a rubber eye cup for quick repeatable eye relief, but wish I could find a rmr front mount for it. I remember seeing some overseas, but don't know if anyone still makes them? Thoughts?
Not sure who said it in tneis video but yes there are better things on the market than the ta31. Try an elcan fixed 4x or especially 5he hensoldt 4x30. The hensoldt has a 20% fov advantage over the acog ta31. It's awesome
When I bought my ta31 I got the Larue qd mount that moved it as far to the rear as possible. Never really had a problem with eye relief. If I’d used the regular mount I guess it would’ve been more of a problem
Owned all three, only kept the ta31. Kram spacer changes the game
The Leupold HAMR is better than all of the ACOGs. Similar glass quality, 2.7" eye relief vs 1.5" on the TA31, lighter, lower integral piggybacked red dot mount, better reticle and you can directly mount an Eotech EFLX or an Aimpoint T2 with an aftermarket adapter. Only glaring weakness was the Leupold Deltapoint optic it was bundled with which can now be replaced by the aftermarket options mentioned before.
With the resurgence of the ACOG/RMR combo as a GPR option, Leupold should really start offering the HAMR again.
Leupold famously won’t improve products. They just dump them and move on. They did a 1x prism long before Primary Arms, but didn’t offer a decent reticle, which is a big benefit PA took advantage of with theirs.
Carryhandle ta31 for that 90s early GWOT peak larp
You guys are describing a desire for a TA50, I feel.
I also think you should get some time with a TA648, the 6x acog. I think you'd be shocked at the usability of it, because it has the same FOV characteristic as the TA31.
I also think the rifle changes a lot about what feels best. I hate the TA31 on an AR15, but I love it on my tavor, it's just how the cheek weld works. On the tavor it's a lot easier to comfortably get that eye relief every time you shoulder the rifle.
For the TA33, it feels amazing on a carry handle, to me. I have no experience with the TA11, because I feel like once you're at that size and weight, an elcan eats its lunch.
Yep, everybody forgets about the 3x24 TA50!
That 6x ACOG is very intriguing although I’m not sure it’s worth the weight of two fricking pounds.
best part of this video is I found another channel to watch. deltathirtyfour is awesome channel with lots of useful info
Xoxo
Dude I would love to see you compare the acogs to the Browe 4x32, as someone living outside of the US, Browe is the only brand on pair with quality, features and price.
I love my ACOG. Worth the “investment” in my opinion. It’s probably going to outlast me where I can give it to my son lol
TA31 with a Piggy back RDS is the best optic package - hands down.
What about an offset dot? Instead of it riding on top
You still need an offset RDS for the PA microprism
I want the RCO reticle in the TA11, is that too much to ask for?
Thanks for the video, I have been really interested in buying a Trijicon Acog or Accupoint. Best thing for Acog is the durability and waterproof level with fiber instead of electronic that fail.
I actually wish some of the models had the triangle post or stick reticle but upside down, so you can see the bullet impact. Having a line under the reticle under the scope makes it bad, especially if it’s a thick bar, at least in video games. I don’t know why Trijicon doesn’t have the triangle upside down.
You want an inverted post crosshair like the Trilux L2A2 SUIT scope. There is even a Russian copy, the 1P29.
I love my TA31, when I got it I was initially concerned about eye relief, but to my surprise it didn't effect me. I can run my stock fully extended and still get perfect eye relief. Idk if that's because of my body type, how I shoot, or whatever
Do you square off or kinda weaver it?
@@TerranPlanetaryDefenseForce I’m squared off, but I also run it all the way back
@@jonathanmitsuda4544 that's wild. maybe long neck and hunched forward stance is why. Most people have to NTCH and kinda weaver to do it
Mine has been solid 👍🏽
I always say ass facts after the brass facts intro. I hope it’s not just me.
I do it behind the scenes too :D
I’ve been eyeballing the TA11H for a while, but always seems to be OOS on eurooptic. I disagree on the 1.5x16 though, perfect for a car15 fixed CH
I want to see these optics with night vision, NO laser just passive aiming , via the actual unit or a RDS on top and see how it conflicts with dual tubes due the optic mounted so close to the charging handle
they're all roughly the same. They're no conflicting issues.
Not gonna lie, if I could sell off this EXPS3 I have for close to what i bought it for it's getting replaced with a TA11 on my 12.5" AR.
My 16" 'Mod H-esque' build is getting a 2-10X optic, but a TA11 w/ piggybacked RDS would be right at home on my carbine.
This is my acog. There are many like it but this one is mine.
I just wanna know why every 4x acog I’ve got lately the reticle is blurry af and seems unfocused. I can’t really focus on the reticle at all
how do you feel about the top mounted RMR as a solution to provide a passive aiming device for NVGs?
it works. Not amazing, but it works. At the end of the day I view passive aiming as option, but not really a primary aiming method
For the ta33 is there a way to buy the screw on lens extension separately
Morning y’all. Delta, GERMAN #4 GANG UNITE! 😂
Mom said it’s my turn with the 4x acog
Laughing in ta02 with aimpount p-2 on top...
IN THE FRONT
I never understood the eye relief issue people have with the 4x ACOG. Like when you move your head back the FOV shrinks but you can still use it since you have a lot of FOV to lose.
@Ass Clapper but at what point is it a hindrance compared to the superior LPVO?
@Ass Clapper I don't understand it either. I think the "longer" eye relief of most LPVO is really annoying. I feel like I have to lean my head super far back on all of my buddies guns in order to get a picture.
@Ass Clapper I shoot pretty far back on the stock. Far enough to even clear a charging handle with a fully collapsed stock if I wanted to and yes you're correct. People just need to put time on it to get adjusted just like vertical pistol grip.
One thing that bugs me when people mount acog is that they always mount them in front of their rear irons. If you just mount the acog all the way back and put the rear sight in front of the acog, you still get backup sights and much better eye relief.
@@sylaconnocalys8443someone’s never shot one with a Kevlar on or in the prone
I love the ta44
One of my Favorite LW & Durable optics if my Trijicon TA31 with the now Discontinued Primary Arms Aurora ACSS Reticle. I paired a green one with a Arisaka Defense 35 Degree on a 1.93” height riser hosting a Holosun HE508T V2 GR(Green) Elite.( Having different colored reticle in my primary and secondary sighting methods is a no go for me). I use a American Defense Manufacturing 2.05” Height Cantilever Mount to help reduce the tiny 1.5” eye relief allowing me to mount it farther to the rear, better balance on rifle and given I’m a 6’7” “svelte” 310lbs of Large American(12-14% Body Comp) the tall mount look dumb af YET is much more functional and comfortable, in most positions with prone being the one exception.)
As my current TA31 & HE508T(weight is around 15-16oz & $2k +/- price point.) If I couldn’t run it on one of my LW SHTF 13.7”-14.5” set ups I’d likely rock a similar rifle outfitted with a PA PLx 1-8x+ a Badger Condition One Mount with 35 Degree Offset J-Arm Mount with HE508T/HE509T is weighing in at about 27-29OZ and cost is around $2,400 depending on its intended use and barrel profile.
I have the TA01. What are your thoughts on this model? I used it in the late 90s/early 2000s while in the group
basically the same as a ta31, just slight feature difference.
Uncomfortable Fact: The best ACOG is the SpitFire 5x!!!
Great video boys. Thanks for the great content!
TA11&RMR master race.
I’ve used all 3 and personally without buis in the way the ta31 is amazing
Eye relief is much more forgiving than advertised
Yeah the 3.5 eye relief is really nice eye relief but I don’t find myself having to shoot in super compromising positions
But that’s just me depends on your needs I feel it could work in any situation so long as you can mount the ta31 all the way back
Good info 🇺🇸
:US:
Always love seeing a new BF video in my feed
The only complaint with a properly mounted TA31 is price.
No batteries, smallest package, excellent FoV, best magnification for it's effective ranges, multiple available reticles, grunt proof.
Use both eyes and there's no need for an RMR.
I legit hated the Ta31 I had. I put the RMR on top... and there was just no saving grace to the optic for my use. Sure it has good glass and an insane FOV. But my glasses scraping on the body just to see, the sketchy RMR mount, the SUPER high nature of the RMR mount, the blurry ass reticle that is in the manual as "normal" it simply shows the age and fact that it has not had to compete because military contracts. None of the Trijicon Acog/RMR products are worth the cost they demand.
It's a fair point.
I find the Ta31 specifically is a acquired taste. and for some, it will not be worth the learning curve as many of the upsides are subtle.
It's why I think you sorta have to "main" the ta31 as a optic.
Yo Brass Facts where do you zero the rmr if it sits ontop of the ACOG? Thanks man
25 yards
TA01 is best ACOG. If you shoot irons properly then you shoot nose to charging handle as it is, so the eye-relief is a non-issue if you're shooting properly anyways. The reticle illumination doesn't help during the day, but it can hurt. Leave a TA02 off or tape up a TA31's fiber optic rod to see for yourself; the etched reticle is perfect for daytime. The illumination helps in lower light situations, which is where the tritium helps. TA01 is the lightest of the three 4x models, and the non-4x models have smaller FOV for if you shoot incorrectly. Just shoot correctly and rock a TA01.
Which Acog did delta say has the rear AND forward rmr mount configuration? I can’t find what he’s talking about
Ta110 3.5x
TA01 for the win 🤘
Can we get Acog vs the Russians version ip29 or another close clone to it?
If you're getting a 3x lightweight optic, you should honestly consider the PA micro 3X
I think the Acog realm belongs to the TA31 and TA11
But dude that eye relief genuinely pisses me off
What are your thoughts on the new led battery powered ones? Looking to mount a acog to a X95
battery power is cool. I really like the elcan bat power.
@@BrassFacts Ya I'm really tempted to get the bat powered one. They are around 1800 Canadian though. About 200 more than normal acog
I found great value with this one! 🐷
I will interject on the 6x being useless, the British actually found a good niche for the 6x. They use the 6x ACOG as an alternate sighting option to a more traditional optic on their L129 squad DMR rifles, of course with an RMR piggy backed on top, at the front of the optic body.
You guys need to try the KRAM riser with the TA31. It solves the eye relief issue and raises the ACOG to about a lower 1/3 cowitness height.
The TA-44 all the way😁👍
Now that PA has released a very capable 1X prism I’m sending my money that way next time- so- the 44 since I have it and then no ACOG.
ta44 is only 1.5x right? seems to miss the point of a magnified optic? But I honestly haven't tried one
@@BrassFacts
Correct!
Only 1.5x which I thought would be ridiculous. Why not a true 1X? I picked it up to see if it was any clearer for me since the T1’s that I normally run are getting painfully ugly due to astigmatism. With the ACSS reticle it brings ranging to the table, fast shots, and the .5x actually seems useful in reaching out at the intended shorter ranges I’ll use it for.
I had a TA01NSN which is the 4x with the amber tritium from the original SOPMOD upgrade. It looked cool and held zero, FOV was very nice too, but that damn eye relief😡I’m a tall gangly goon like Hop, that eye relief means my wrist has to be touching my shoulder to get a sight picture- not ideal.
Thank you for all of the great vids, I truly enjoy all the stuff that you guys post.
@@BrassFacts The 1.5x is there to enhance the Binden Aiming Concept. The slight magnification permits the image to blur easier/faster under movement, which then forces your brain to use the non aiming eye as the primary sight picture and overlay the illuminated reticle from the aiming eye.
This is the best choice. Once I looked through it I knew I needed one. After I got one I read about the Bindon aiming concept and it actually works very well.
Counter point, mount the PA 1x above the acog
Why the hate for the ta44 1.5?
Which model for ar10?
What's the problem with the 1.5 acog's? Those looked interesting.
Because 1.5x is next to useless...might as well just run a red dot at that point.
I prefer the 2x TA44
If you don’t get the chevron, you may as well just use your pawpaw’s old scope.
TA31 for 5.56 rifles and TA11 for .308
cant wait to watch this, disregard all the information and buy the coolest one instead

Where do you find milsurp acogs
14:57 what about the Steiner 432? I'm an ACOG fan, but just wanted to bring that up...
isn't it no longer produced?
that's the Steiner ACOG with mlok sections on it right?
@@BrassFacts Mmm... I wasn't aware of it going out of production, and yes, I think the correct name is 'S432'.
i'm just here for the happy pupper.
Not sure if you would consider talking about the 5.5x and 6x model.
Apparently you hate them but with few videos on the optics I am slightly drawn to them having better eye relief and magnification than the TA31 on paper or the ideas in my head. I would use them for a 308 yet they seem to suffer possibly even more up close?
I have a lot of time behind the 6x and it’s just not enough magnification for the weight. Especially for a .308
