funnily enough today is world vegetarian day
Yes! My faves are the pomegranate cranberry and the coconut pineapple. I never thought of using them for a cocktail though 🤔 💭
Why are you trying to make your recipes taste like meat, if eating vegan is so great?
The fact that you always give a REALLY easy and accessible example of your recipes makes them so much more loveable for me. I don’t have a pan which creates those grill stripes but after seeing you literally using a regular pan I’m more than confident that I can do this on my own. Thank you for also including the „easy“ options beside the „fancy, cool“ ones, too!!
Thanks! I try to cover as many bases as possible!
i want to add, when he uses ingredients that are special (for me as a german especially), he always names an alternative. Its actually be best thing about the recipes.
Thanks! I haven't tried using tofu for a chicken replacement. It's funny how people kind of intuitively know chicken is bland AF but still use taste as a defense for eating it. lol.
Right??
Its easy to overcook too
@@mediafreak5923 Right. And then it gets all dry.
If your chicken is bland and dry you need to learn how to cook it properly.
@jarlomink I can cook chicken properly, but thats not the point. Its a blank protein canvas just like tofu, seitan, soy curls, and etc.
Made this last night, absolutely delicious!! Left one of the filets overnight and cooked it for lunch today and it was even better. Your recipes are so consistent, I never hesitate to try one. Thanks as always for your hard work in making tasty, easy, comforting vegan food!
That makes my day!! Thank you so much, appreciate it!
eating tofu is something I did BEFORE I went vegan because of videos like this. It's a lot cheaper than meat around here and it made its way (along with seitan and lentils) into my protein rotation!
I tried this after your short video came out! but with a marinade of teriyaki, toban djan, ketchup, and liquid smoke. Then I sliced it up and made a banh mi. I've made 5 of them since. INCREDIBLE
Oh wow, that sounds so good! This would be perfect in a banh mi! Good call!
wtf you did environment art for games? that's so neat, you should do a video about that sometime
This!! I’m obsessed with the idea of working in environments! So random that one of my favourite food peeps used to do that for a job
the presentation is fantastic! i love your camerawork.
Thank you so much!
I'm trying to incorporate vegan food into my diet so that I can slowly get into it! You make these foods look so appetizing I want to try them out. If you haven't already can you try making a vegan Japanese style chicken katsu curry? It's my go to comfort food and one of the things holding me back from going full vegetarian! Keep doing what you're doing !!!
Glad you’re back! What a useful recipe!
Thank you Thee Burger Dude for the recipe video 😊 Looks amazing as always. Hope you are doing well
This looks amazing. Like, I love tofu, I don't care about making it be convincing as meat fully, but this looks absolutely delicious and is so visually convincing as chicken that it could completely sell it to people. Amazing work my dude
I would love to receive the recipe for the brown sauce at the end of the video. looks great.
Been wondering where Thee Burger Dude was. Good to have you back. 😊
Everything from this channel makes me smile! Cheers !
Thank you so much for this video! I love your UA-cam videos. I’m sure they are tons of work but there is something very comforting about watching you do the recipe it makes it not so intimidating. Thank you so much for all the work you put into all these videos!
good job on getting a sponsor and I will def try this vegan chicken out.
THEE RETURN DUDE!!!
YES
You're back!?! Welcome back, dude! Me and my little sister are gonna be making your vegan versions of the Taco Bell menu items!
Nice!! This would go great in a Chick’n quesadilla!
That'd be something awesome, I'll definitely do it!
I'll give it a go. looks good and simple. Thanks
Wow, this is mouthwateringly awesome. You're my favorite cooking channel on UA-cam, Burger Dude!
Looks really good!
Im not a vegan but these recipes just downright look fantastic. Imma try this one as well
And people say vegans love telling people they’re vegan. How about carnists telling everyone, “I’m not vegan but…..”. It happens 99% more than when vegans do it.
@@teresajose2280 I mean by the numbers we are the majority and bu a huge margin too. No hate brother.
@@teresajose2280And? Is there anything wrong with it? Personally I appreciate seeing non vegans commenting under vegan recipes, it suggests that the food is actually really good
There's a special place in my heart for omnivores who cook vegan dishes just for the joy of it ☺
When freezing tofu, the type you use is really important (in fact, crucial) to the process. It needs to be regular tofu in the water, not firm tofu. Mary’s Test Kitchen explains it all in her fried chicken/tofu video.
I’ve done it with the firm and it comes out spongy like that. But regular tofu comes out superb!
Regular tofu? I don't think I've ever seen that at a store. I usually see silken, firm, extra firm, and super firm.
@@chaingunguy4722 it exists!
Looks delicious! I have all the ingredients, so i will definitely be making this sometime this week!
I like this idea! Thank you!
I LOVE tofu as a chicken replacement. Your recipe looks sooo good! Can’t wait to try it.
Edit: Checked my kitchen and I have all of the ingredients at once for once! Definitely having this for dinner tonight with some broccoli and mashed potatoes🤤❤️
Glad your back! Missed your videos 😁
Great recipe! Love tofu it's very versatile and I use it a lot. Tastes good even without anything extra
Can't wsit to try this. Looks wonderful. Thanks dude
I love tofu and definitely need to try this
Oh, I can’t wait to try this!
The beveling anecdote cracked me up real good. Highly relatable. -A game dev
Tried it today , turned out great . Thanks !
Thanks for tips❤❤❤
Watching this and I'm realized I forgot I had frozen a block of tofu in my freezer that I was going to use a month ago. Also TIL that you worked as an environment artist, what games did you work on? I have a much more appreciation for you now. lol.
I missed you! This looks great.
I've been waiting for this! 👍
saw the short and hoped you'd make a vid. thx dude!
Love this man, so good!
Thanks buddy!
You are such a blessing 👍🏾🙋🏾♀️💙
Out of all the vegan channels I have visited , Thee Burger Dude is the most fun and uses the most simple every day ingredients. I just subscribed and looking forward to more your recipes...Thanks 👍
I finally tried this and it was SUPERB! Thank you, it's what I've been craving and healthier than processed. For my marinade, I used a garlic, lemon chick-un. 😋
This great thank you!
Thanks dude!
This is Genius! Thank you so much!!
Oh, dang! Love it.
you are a literal vegan magician
i almost never comment on videos, but damn dude. the way you provide so much relevant information so succinctly is a breath of fresh air. no padding, no sugarcoating, now i know exactly what to expect when i try this myself ;) thanks
Planning on making your fettuccine Alfredo and slapp’n this tofu chicken on top for dinner tonight. Love your recipes!
Can't wait to try this and the twice frozen tofu! Thanks for the awesome vid!
Im more interested in that vegan grsvy you showed in the b roll at the end
Bro thank you so much
Burger dude! I remember subscribing when you had 30k when sauce stache shouted you out. Now you're at 350k so cool! Keep spreading the vegan word
which tasted better the one in fridge or in a package? in your opinion?
This is very interesting! We will give this a try!
Thanks for the nice video 😊 It's kind of a combination of things I've been doing with tofu lately, and things I want to learn to do better! I like your marinade, great idea to score the tofu first. I have a pathetic tofu press (it was cheap) so I started crumbling the thawed-out superfirm tofu in my hands until it loses a lot of liquid and breaks into rough chunks, which I then stir-fry with smoked paprika, salt and crushed garlic. It doesn't take long for the tofu to go nice and crispy, but still soft enough to absorb liquids. I've had it just like that, with a side of vegetables, but usually once it's at this stage I add it to borscht - quite early on, so it soaks up a lot of flavour. It is honestly delicious. Like borscht in general, it gets better over the next couple of days. I highly recommend 😊
So great to see another option for those if us that can’t consume seitan.
Tried it before and it's lovely. I just have to omit the acid components because the tofu I buy at the Asian market has a fairly acidic sour aftertaste already.
Excellent vid! Straight out the package tofu is fine for your grill prep. Freezing tofu is only important for frying tofu. The freeze prep drives out more water, correct, and will cause fried tofu to have more crunchy and crispy edges.
I use the leftover scraps to make vegan ground beef or chorizo. Perfect in a corn tortillas 😊
looks interesting... will try soon......
Made this yesterday (after it marinated overnight) and it tastes EVEN better today. I literally was eating it cold straight out of the fridge, it tasted SO good. On day 2, not only did it taste EVEN better, it did taste very much like a roasted chicken breast. I've never eaten a slab of tofu (always scrambled or cubed it) and doubted it would be flavorful but WOW! I'm truly blown away! THANK YOU!!
haha that's amazing, and since making the video, I agree with you, the longer it marinates the better. So glad you dig it!!
Yum! Making me hungry!
Wit the gravy is probably super good
Awesome to hear you worked on Video games! What games did you work on?
Definitely going to try this. I wonder if you could brine the tofu before marinating to give it even more flavor.
Why have I never thought to make tofu and mashed potatoes with gravy 🤯🍗🫶
You’re awesome.
So the way to go in my opinion is to press the tofu overnight, slice into thirds then submerge the block in vegan chicken broth and freeze overnight, thaw and then marinade/season and cook.
Freezing it in the broth after pressing allows the broth to penetrate into the tofu giving it more flavor throughout instead of just on the outside.
These still look great!
Thanks! That's exactly what I was going to do (well slice and unslice, but freezing in vegan chick'n broth) but I realized that was a whole other video. You can see in the shots where I'm adding the tofu to the freezer, it's firm and extra firm tofu. I'm gonna do one where I test a bunch of freezing methods out, will do your suggestion!
@@TheeBurgerDude awesome! Another method I've found that works incredibly is pressing overnight, cutting into 5 strips, airfry at 400 for 15 min, cutting into nuggets, freezing in chicken broth, thaw, then airfry at 400 for like a minute or so. Juicy and they have a "skin" on them that's nice and crispy
4:00 also don't have to worry about IGF-1, H7N9, Lead, or other carcinogens. Thanks for posting--these filets look awesome
In my experience the freeze'n'thaw method is more useful for the more water-logged varieties of tofu, ie not the Super Firm/High Protein stuff
It definitely is, but to me they are always still kinda spongy. I'm gonna do a more thorough test video though and try a bunch of tofus and methods!
This is creative
Upside to freezing tofu is, you can get a LOT more water out. Which means you can get more flavors IN...
Mine didn’t come out pretty like yours BUT IT’S FIRE 😍😍😍😍
Environmental artist? Sounds interesting - do a video on what you worked on.
Definitely some food related stories with my old job!
I find frozen tofu to be dry when I end up cooking it. This looks good! I think I’m going to try pan-frying in my cast iron. I’m looking for alternatives to chicken for my daughter. She thinks she hates tofu but this might be the ticket!
burger dude!
missed ya
this looks crazy dty.
Dude many Americans really sleep on tofu because they’re so scared to look “vegan”.
I’m from America but live in Japan now and tofu is like a weekly staple for me now. There’s so many amazing and delicious tofu dishes.
To get the tofu to soak up the marinade, you need to press it to expel the air in the little pockets, then the marinade will be pulled in when it expands back after you release it. Think of it like squeezing a sponge under water to get it to soak up more than just dunking it in the water would do.
Super firm has very little water. Pressing isn’t necessary. Scoring helps though.
My son says we should try this one.
from what I've seen the freeze-and-thaw method is *only* recommended for medium-firm tofu, supposedly it can create "layers" as well as meatiness, something to do with the water content but I don't think its worth the effort i haven't done it since I first started learning to cook with tofu years ago
HOLY WHAAAT!!!?
Man I dont understand the hate of vegan food they're still delicious and this guy makes even more delicious food
Can you do a video using pumpkin seed tofu? There is another one but I can't remember what they used instead of soybeans... Love all the videos, although I don't like spicy at all, so a couple substitute suggestions would be appreciated. Also sometimes the list of ingredients gets really long for people in a hurry to make lunch or dinner, so any Pre-made mixes would be great!
Seems like once-frozen tofu might be the best of both worlds.
Culinary rating: BOOSTED. Your recipes have become A** Sir 🥳🥳🥳 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
For your 1,000,000 subscriber video, you know it’s inevitable, right? I’ll give you the best tofu idea ever. Get a massive block direct from the producer, or even make your own. Then hire an sculptor. Do a North By North West tribute to Alfred Hitchcock & have a tofu Mount Rushmore. Not saying your artistry isn’t up to scratch, but imagine the views 🤓 You saw it here first other vegan UA-cam wannabes 🥷🏻🥷🏻🥷🏻
Didn't know you worked on video games. Neat.
I tried making thawed tofu once and it got a funky, pungent taste that I did not care for at all. I've been wary of trying it ever since...
How would you modify this to make as a marinade for soy curls?
Hmm, not sure, depending on how much you are using you'd need a lot more of it. You could use some veggie or vegan chick'n broth and adjust the seasonings, but it would honestly be a different recipe I think.
That marinade looks good. I never eat tofu that thick unless it’s smoked. Frozen tofu is gross it tastes like a sponge to me. I can say you can thaw it on the microwave without making it weirder.
Tried it yesterday, it ended up really burned on outside, and mostly raw inside... I get that I maybe overheated the pan, and local "firm tofu" has very terrible quality, but I kinda thinking on trying to roast it in the oven instead.
I agree. I actually do not like the freeze thaw method. It tastes porous. Otherwise, this looks like a yummy way to make “chicken.”
I just made this, 10/10 !!!!!
Awesome! Thank you, glad you liked it! 👍🏼
I just went and purchased some tofu just so that I can try one of your tofu chicken recipes. Thank you for posting such amazing content I greatly appreciate it. GOD has truly blessed you with an amazing gift of taking foods that we once liked when we were meat eaters and turn it into amazing vegan dishes. Thank YOU JESUS CHRIST OF NAZARETH 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾‼️‼️‼️‼️…. For those of you watching this video my prayer is that you ALL come to know JESUS CHRIST OF NAZARETH as your LORD AND SAVIOR. ROMANS 10:9 say that if we confess with our mouth and believe in our heart that GOD raised JESUS from the dead we will be saved.
NEW VID LFG
I think the thing about tofu that you have to remember if you're going to convert...
Beef is beef...
Chicken is chicken...
Tofu is tofu...
They each have their own unique texture and flavor. Sure, you can make them similar to each other, but you just learn to appreciate each for their own characteristics. I've just stopped trying to make one a mirror of another. Make them "close"... sure that's cool. But it's never going to be "perfect"... and that's okay with me.
Not vegan but tofu looks tasty as hell.
