When I cook the Impossible Brat indoors, I wrap it up in aluminum foil and put it on the rack in the oven at 375° for about 18-20 minutes. This seems to keep all of the juices inside and firm up the casing as well. I am addicted to these! So i'm pretty surprised by the low score for Lightlife. I've had most of the dogs/sausages you reviewed, and the LightLife ones are my favorite. Mostly because they remind me of the cheap oscar meyer and generic hot dogs I loved as a kid. A lightlife dog and some Annie's vegan boxed mac and cheese is the oscar meyer and kraft mac and cheese of my childhood, minus the animal suffering.
I just have never liked them, but maybe I need to boil them? I never liked boiling hot dogs before going vegan. They taste okay, but the texture is just off putting to me! But they are tolerable when loaded up with toppings haha
Absolutely these are just like the cheap expeller created hot dogs we got as kids. I think that was Lightlife's intention. I don't prefer them, but I also don't mind them to have that nostalgia.
The Field Roast Stadium Dogs are definitely my favorite. I never got a chance to try the Nathan's ones, which I heard were game-changing, so I hope they eventually make the more widely available because if it's anything close to how I remember Nathan's Original tasting I may die and go to vegan heaven.
I find it exciting that you can compare several vegan products against each other. The fact that the products get rated is a big help in seeking out better quality sausages.
Man. I adore the Lightlife dogs; admittedly a new vegan (since February) but they seem sooo close to the hot dogs we used to get all the time before I quit meat. I'll have to track some of the ones you liked better if they're available in my area to give them a try.
The Field Roast stadium dog is my go to vegan hot dog until a new challenger arrives. Best of the bunch. Tried the Impossible sausages this week for the first time and I'd have to say the flavor was great but I still prefer the Beyond. Thanks for gorging yourself with hot dogs for the greater good.

i actually really like the light life hot dogs, but it's probably because i went vegan in 2007 before all the new options were available. thanks for the review! i'm going to check out all of these other options.
I’m sure what I usually had after going veg in 1980, was Light Life, because I could not do canned fake meats, like Worthington/Loma Linda. I prefer the Field Roast dogs.
I enjoy Morningstar Farms hotdogs for the boiling method. Growing up in the midwest, if we were cooking indoors, we boiled our hotdogs. This brand has the closest texture and flavor to hit that nostalgia button. They also work great in puffdogs!
I grew up eating cheap hotdogs, so the Lightlife hotdogs are very nostalgic for me. 🤷♀️ I wouldn't bring them to a barbeque, or a fancy event, but I love um! And my kid does too.

The Stadium Dogs are by far our favorite. We just tried cooking them over a fire and it was even better. The Yeah Dawgs are really good, I've only had them from the Yeah Dawg stand at a vegfest. It was loaded with fun stuff, definitely recommend it if you ever come across them!

Beyond and impossible and field toast are definitely my go to for most meat substitutes when I don’t make my own. However I picked up Lightlife smart dogs yesterday I fried with onions 🧅 and tbsp of olive oil and added a tsp of liquid smoke. They were delicious! I can’t wait to eat them on the outdoor grill!

We're having Lightlife tonight! I shopped at the chain grocery store this week and that was my one choice. But we love toppings so may not be bothered by what's in the bun 😂
Back in the day when Bragg Liquid Aminos had a smaller aperture on their bottle. I had sprouted wheat buns found in the freezer section, I did a zigzag of Bragg's on the bun. A smear of Dijon mustard on one side of the bun. I took 4-6 basil leaves and did a chiffonade, mashed them with half a ripe avocado then did a smear on the other side of the bun. A leaf of butterhead lettuce atop with the dog in the center. It was absolutely delicious.

I just tried Morningstar Veggie Dogs last week and I was really into them and felt like they resembled a hot dog pretty well. Cooked them on a skillet in oil on the stove.
The only ones I've tried are the LightLife and Beyond Sausages. A good tip that I use when making Field Roast Stadium Dogs is I boil the dog and steam the bun instead of grilling. They taste better that way in my opinion and thats actually how they make them at Dodger Stadium!
Until I had stadium.. light life was actually my favorite because of the rubbier texture. It was the most reminiscent to me but idk if it's my new air fryer but the light life packs I've gotten lately have been too soft. Hot dogs should not be soft. It's odd 😕
Back when I gave up meat, I tried Lightlife, couldn't bear it. Resigned myself to the idea that I'd have to wait a few years for something better. Tried each brand as it came out, then finally hit the jackpot with the Stadium Dogs. Thank goodness for the Stadiums, cuz I can't live without my coney dogs :)
Thanks for the incredibly comprehensive dogs review! I usually buy the Stadium Dogs and pan fry indoors, but I've had Beyond sausages and really enjoy them too. I hate cooking them because of the greasy mess though. I've tried almost all of the ones you did.
Thanks for the review. I completely agree on the lightlife. I actually couldn't eat paprika for a while after eating those because that was all I could think of when I tasted anything with paprika. The Beyond Brats and Field Roast Stadium are my favorites. I haven't tried Impossible yet.
I just caught this video today. Food is such a personal thing, and I have to say the Light Life is my favorite, I was surprised you didn't care for them. I boil mine, I never cared for hot dogs cooked on the grill or pan fried before becoming vegan, & the sausages, I love the beyond. Thank you for your videos
As an omnivore trying to work my way towards eating more vegan (with a husband who has no interest in vegan anything), Lightlife has been our permanent replacement for hot dogs entirely (as in, processed hot dogs, not sausages). I personally can't stand any kind of wheaty texture at all so Field Roast in general has always disappointed me, but if you're also not a fan, maybe I'll give that particular one another try? As a recommendation, I'd suggest cooking the Lightlife hot dogs like a crappy boiled hotdog, in a bowl with a bit of water in the microwave for about a minute. I've never tried grilling or browning them, that might be the problem? Thanks for doing all this testing, it's very much appreciated to see it all lined up and hear your thoughts! I'm loving these :D
I only have luck with the lightlife dogs when I cook them in the oven on tin foil! Basically just let it blow up a little like a balloon around 350 degrees then take them out. It’s hard to explain when to take them out. Trial and error so they aren’t too crisp and not under cooked
As for ‘proper’ hot dogs, FR’s Stadium, especially grilled, can’t be beat. - Lightlife decided to compete with their competitors by getting on the woo train & changed all their formulas. They were never spectacular, but they use to be a solid choice. Now, if that’s all there is, I’ll eat beans out of a can. - Beyond’s sausages rock. Can’t wait to find Impossible’s! (FYI, it wasn’t user error with Yeah Dawg. Love them as a company & will enjoy them at a VegFest. They have great flavor, but they’re super soft even when they’re cooking them. Not everything has to be an exact replica & I like that they remind me of that.)
Sweet Earth’s jumbo vegan hot dog is my absolute favorite. Tastes exactly like a real dog, especially on the grill! (I use instacart to find them near me)
My wife likes field roast but I LOVE beyond meat sausages (I never called them hotdogs lol it's all good)...I make all kinds of stuff with it, chili dogs, Italian, regular hotdog style, etc... Perfecto 👌
Light life is not great. It is, however, the more affordable option for my budget. I will boil them in some concentrated veggy broth and THEN throw them on the griddle. It helps a lot.
I hadn’t heard of Yeah Dawg before but it’s nice to find a vegan hotdog that is gluten free that doesn’t have seitan in it. They don’t appear available in my area but I’m going to order some to try. I have Celiac Disease and most of the vegan dog options have the one ingredient I definitely can’t have listed first. They probably fall apart easily since they don’t have any gluten but that’s pretty standard for many gluten free items, not just fake meats.
great work- very funny- personally like field roast dogs the best- they somehow stopped their original dog which was a little thicker than the ballpark dogs. I like the beyond sausage better than impossible- it's juicier, but impossible seems like lower fat/oil?
I should add that I am talking about the Beyond spicy italian sausage, but both are I think juicier/better than the impossible, but I was eating the beyond first so maybe gained a bias
I thought it was weird to make a video with so many products from one store, it seemed like these were all local brands, but all of these are available at most stores/online! Great video!
Oh no I only got a few of these from Besties which mostly sells stuff by indie vendors. I don't see them in many other stores, but online definitley available!
Ketchup on a hot dog?! HERESY! I like the Lite Life, not awesome but not bad either. I love the Beyond brats. I did not know impossible made sausage like that. I love Impossible burgers, I'll have to try everything from Impossible! Love the cup too, Vegan Bong Water! Hilarious!
Tofurkey Italian style is my go to for a hotdog style thing, with mustard and saurkraut. I actually prefer the things that don't taste or have the texture of red meat since I've gone vegan.
Definitely not your typical vegan dog, but I discovered IKEA's KORVMOJ veggie dogs recently and they are pretty awesome. They are truly a veggie dog, not trying to simulate meat at all, but rather just a bunch of veggies in a dog form. I know it sounds a little weird, but it's delicious, especially if you're craving something a little less meaty. They sell them by the 10 pack in the frozen section, or you can get them prepared in the snack bar with pickled cabbage, fried onions, and a tangy mustard. For meaty dogs, I also really like Sweet Earth's Jumbo Vegan Hot Dogs. They're very similar to your classic Oscar Meyer, when you want to scratch that specific itch.
I love the Beyond Sausages - Hot Italian! Yummy! I participated in a focus group and tried them for the first time and was blown away. For typical hot dogs, I really like the Light Life Tofu Pups. Both of those make me very happy! :)
i agree lightlife and tofurky products not that great. i have eaten many field roast sausage sandwiches and yves pepperoni sandwiches and sweet earth bacon sandwiches. those were my go to vegan meats and the handiest when i was eating a lot of that stuff. thanks for the thorough rendition review buddy and keeping your financials safe regarding your former catch phrase. #teamketchupforthewin
Thank you for this. I love leaning how to cook new food being vegetarian, leaning vegan. Hot dogs were my faves and I've been so nervous about trying any. Coors field had a "vegan dog" but it was definitely more like a hot link.
I like mayo & mustard on my Beyond Brats. I'll have to try the Fieldroast Stadium dogs. One of my favorite vegan hot dogs are Loma Linda Big Franks, they come 6 per can, they are so nostalgic for me back to my childhood.
Great vid, TBD. Sadly, only litelife is available here. Several different sausage options are here though. Still waiting on the day we have hotdog choices! 😎
I just saw Impossible brats for the first time today and grabbed a pack. Glad to hear it had a high rating here 😅 I’m looking forward to trying them and will definitely have my husband toss them on the grill!
I made the Impossible brats over charcoal and I was pleasantly impressed with them! I don’t do too much soy, just as a personal preference, but I will eat Impossible lol.
I'm a little disappointed that you didn't have a couple extra field roast sausages in this- the Apple Sage is a delicious long term favorite of mine, but their frankfurters are some of the best 'hotdog' alternatives to put up for comparison.
I prefer the Tofurky Italian sausage, Kielbasa, and Beer Brats. I haven't found a plant based weenie I like yet. However, I do like Morning Star corn dogs and just found some Morning Star weenie but haven't tried them yet.

This is such a helpful video. So well made and produced! Thanks so much for this!
Great Video! I've only ever head Lightlife, so I look forward to trying the other ones!
What kind of buns?
It’s gotta be the Beyond Spicy Italian or Brats for me. I especially love making them into Kraut Dogs!!
The Upton's are the best. Both Field Roast varieties are good too.
I should add that I am talking about the Beyond spicy italian sausage, but both are I think juicier/better than the impossible, but I was eating the beyond first so maybe gained a bias
before beyond sausage came out I was eating field roast italian sausage which is great too- but not nearly as oily.- great in pasta
I'm not a vegan, but enjoy a number of vegan foods. I tried the Light Life hotdogs. I took a single bite and threw the entire package away.
Those were my go-to for quite a while. I have probably eaten hundreds of them over the years. Maybe thousands. haha!
I love the Beyond sausages, they are pretty darn good! I've not tried the Stadium dogs but I am going to look for them. Great reviews, thank you! 😄
Thank you so much for cooking and tasting these various vegan hit dogs. I'm always looking for more vegan choices. 😀👍
Are there any that don’t have a severely strong smoky flavor? I tried some vegan corn dogs years ago and couldn’t finish because of the smoky flavor.
If you are able, I found that the best way to cook the Beyond (and probably the Impossible and Very Good Butcher) sausages is in a smoker
I always peeled the casing from the Beyond Sausages before frying them... am I supposed to leave it on? 😀
I can't peel it from the Beyond anymore since they changed the recipe. The Impossible ones will definitely come off tho
the only ones that come close to the stadium dogs for me are the frozen morningstar veggie dogs
I wasn't crazy about the Field Roast Stadium Dogs, but the Field Roast Frankfurters are my favorite.
I love the Beyond Sausages - Hot Italian! Yummy! I participated in a focus group and tried them for the first time and was blown away. For typical hot dogs, I really like the Light Life Tofu Pups. Both of those make me very happy! :)
Wahoo! Glaamd you made a video on vegan hotdogs. I go grocery shopping soon and those were on the list to try. Thank you for your video
Field roast classic is #1 in my book.
Beyond sausage always had that weird aftertaste I can't get over, I haven't tried the impossible dog though.
i agree lightlife and tofurky products not that great. i have eaten many field roast sausage sandwiches and yves pepperoni sandwiches and sweet earth bacon sandwiches. those were my go to vegan meats and the handiest when i was eating a lot of that stuff. thanks for the thorough rendition review buddy and keeping your financials safe regarding your former catch phrase. #teamketchupforthewin
Thank you for this. I love leaning how to cook new food being vegetarian, leaning vegan. Hot dogs were my faves and I've been so nervous about trying any. Coors field had a "vegan dog" but it was definitely more like a hot link.
You have to try the hot dogs from Worthington and Loma Linda companies! Superlinks and Big Franks are really good!
but which one was the Wurst? :D
Love this! I'm gonna try the field roast dogs. I tried lightlife for the first time last week and was not impressed
I like mayo & mustard on my Beyond Brats. I'll have to try the Fieldroast Stadium dogs. One of my favorite vegan hot dogs are Loma Linda Big Franks, they come 6 per can, they are so nostalgic for me back to my childhood.
Great reviews. I also recommend trying some of them in an air fryer. Especially those that taste good but perhaps the casing did not turn out right
Great vid, TBD.
Bonus points for the mug as I am up in the middle of the night partaking in a fat dab on some Pink Kush live resin to get back to sleep.
I made the Impossible brats over charcoal and I was pleasantly impressed with them! I don’t do too much soy, just as a personal preference, but I will eat Impossible lol.
Send one up for Very Good Butchers! Sadly they are no more.
I'm a little disappointed that you didn't have a couple extra field roast sausages in this- the Apple Sage is a delicious long term favorite of mine, but their frankfurters are some of the best 'hotdog' alternatives to put up for comparison.
The texture of the light life hotdogs can be improved by first freezing them. While the texture is improved, the flavor is what it is.
Amzon fresh has a really good plant based sausage, they are close to the impossible sausage believe it or not especially the Italian ones.
I prefer the Tofurky Italian sausage, Kielbasa, and Beer Brats. I haven't found a plant based weenie I like yet. However, I do like Morning Star corn dogs and just found some Morning Star weenie but haven't tried them yet.
awesome video, love your channel!!!
My fave is Aldi plant menu .,., i couldn't believe how close the texture and flavour was to deathdogs
So glad I found your channel! Definitely going to look for these doggies
I preordered your book but I have to say I’m really disappointed you didn’t rate the impossible and beyond sausages as the best…
Impossible is my favorite i peel the casing off before cooking and they're amazing
