In this first video of a 6 part Card Counting Series, I head to the southern states of America to play high stakes blackjack. Will my previous Beat The Odds series have caused me to be too well known to count cards?

HELLO!
Just wanna say, it feels great to be able to spend 6 months working on this series and still have an engaged audience! Thank you for waiting! 😃
I decided a while back I was only going to post videos I'm proud of and I felt like you'd all really like. So I hope it's been worth the wait!
Replying to as many comments as possible over the next few days!
Oh yeah, follow me on twitter before the whole company collapses: @StevenBridges
And insta if you wanna see me post once every few months: @StevenBridges
You've been in the back of my mind for a while. Every time you don't upload for a while, I wonder if a casino kidnapped you or something
@@bobjohn2000 Yeah I should probably update the internet a bit more so people know I haven't actually been murdered
Are you a vegan are you pal?
Never would have guessed because you never mention it lol
@@drunkpaulocosta haha what made you ask that? Yes I am
Well worth the wait! Curious to see how this trip ended up!
Regarding the names priest spread and boxer spread: a priest holds his hands together in prayer. A boxer holds their hands apart in a fighting stance. A clever way to describe a small spread and a wider spread.
My team manager is a smarter man than me.
The ol' Nun and Wench.
Priests stay under the radar & a Boxers knockout punch. But had they been switched it would have been fitting as well. Boxers going the distance & Priests like them young = short lived before the back off.

YES HES BACK!!! I literally wait for this series.
hahah thank you for waiting! Got alllll the videos pretty much edited for this one so at least there won't be weirdly long gaps between eps!
@@stevenbridges just signed up for curiosity/nebula using your code 😎
@@jordyn.gamble Thank you so much! 😃 I appreciate it! Enjoy ep 2!
I have no interest in gambling and no idea how this card counting stuff works, but I enjoy the quality storytelling. Great to see a new series. 👍
I am so happy to see another set of videos, I was able to mostly binge the previous series as I caught it right as it was finishing up. Waiting week to week is going to be painful!
haha well it's better than me having multiple weeks between eps because of my slow editing like the previous series 😂
These will be on time!
I have gambled at many of the Seattle area casinos. Cool to see you that way
as a former dealer and pit boss who worked in Mississippi for most of my career, i can wholeheartedly say that as an impartial observer of how casinos around the country operate, the absolute last place in the US id pick for a card-counting tour would be Mississippi, and here's why: similar to vegas, working in casinos is just what people do there. however unsimilar to vegas, there's almost no great options available to people who would like to make more than minimum wage. the Mississippi economy is horrible, to put it mildly and workers there dont have many other options. their only option is to get good at their job, and hence most people take their job pretty seriously and end up being dealers, pit bosses, and shift bosses for the better part of their entire lives. in vegas, eventually people move away or move up in the company, or end up playing (and losing their paychecks) instead -- resulting in a high turnover rate, and a more green staff, generally speaking.
Great insight
Law enforcement there is garbage
so what? It's the casino's money, not YOUR or your dealers friends money he's winning. Also remember that casinos ALWAYS win more from players than they lose, they wouldn't exist if it was the case. So why feel bad for it just because they employ you?
@@Braz666how do you think you move up in a company
@@Braz666 because if the casino feels that you're not protecting their interests enough, you get fired?
Like a true gambler - no problem to bet a couple hundred dollars a hand at Blackjack, but definitely not paying 250 for a 5 hour hotel room! 😅 Loving this channel
If I was part of his team, I would have said to just get the room. It's better to have a sharper mind than to play with such large quantities of money on an unfocused and tired brain. I was thinking this before he revealed how he did later on that day, and my intuition was right.
That really isnt a good comparison. Obviously he has learned to make the game work for him and to his advantage, thus he can make money off it. There is no return on an expensive room (that he couldnt get with a cheap room ie rest and regrouping)....he cant turn that overpriced room into a profit. Its money gone never to be seen. How is that "like a true gambler"? Its simple economics.
I love the storytelling on these! You do a great job explaining what's going on to those who've never counted cards, and I find these videos super facinating!
Thank you so much! I spend a lot of time trying to make sure I get into the details without it being too much. I think people want to know the ins and outs, and not just the surface level stuff like you get in documentaries.
I am a poker pro and i find these extremely entertaining, cant wait for more episodes. Unfortunate that your videos have made casinos aware and that it takes a lot of resource to produce these videos, would binge watch 15seasons no problem ❤
Very similar to poker in many ways I imagine. I am tempted to try poker at some point - I think Poker is much harder though! Thanks for the support 😃
@@stevenbridges not as similar as you might think. Poker is yeah much harder because of many aspects would love to have a convo if youd like on this topic :) 🙏

@@stevenbridges poker can be amazing. I recommend you try it but to only start with online play as the players are so much more weak there you can get used to playing then try 1/2 at a real casino. be expected to lose there to regulars that will push you around. they are sharks at the game.
Your back with a new series! Fantastic Steven can’t wait for the rest of them
I was just in Mississippi! I experienced a pretty aggressive back off. I had only gotten to a true 2 when the heat started coming, so I left with my chips (only bc there were like 6 casinos within 10 minutes of me). I came back the next day on a different shift and the entire floor staff was looked at me. Every time I would make eye contact with any of them, they would awkwardly look away. I knew what was going on, so I turned around to walk out. As I was walking away, 2 gentlemen started following me.
“Sir! Excuse me Sir! Can I see your ID?” Without even turning around, I declined and said I was leaving. The man continues to ask for my ID over and over as he follows me out. Eventually his friend exclaims, in a deep English accent
“Let the f*****g c**t go”
and says to me
“You’re 86’d from the property, if you ever come back we’ll have you arrested!”
I had my back turned, but I’m sure if I was looking at him I would have seen veins popping from his forehead and spit flying while he yelled.
This was the nastiest back off I’ve had thus far in 200 hours of play, but I still found it very amusing. I also had the most pleasant back off in the same city. Shoutout to Will
Wow that's a pretty intense experience! So unnecessarily aggressive of them!
whats a deep english accent ? not sure it even exists ??
I'm guessing low tone 😁 baritone
They don't mind taking everyone else's money, but instantly threaten people when they take a penny out of their change jar. Insanely hypocritical.
I work at a casino on the gulf coast of Mississippi, would love to know the places you had these experiences at because I would be happy to tell you the casinos that have no clue what’s going on outside of a half mile radius and the ones who do.
You should put a number on each episode title of the series. Helpful for the viewer. Great series [=
Glad you're back! So much about this is fascinating and I can't wait for the next episode
Thanks Cavan! Next one is a good one imo 😃

I'm so happy to see more of these videos. They're so entertaining, absolute roller coasters ! Cheers can't wait for more
Thank you very much! 😃
Awesome to see this turn up in my recommended videos. I have always been fascinated with card counting...and I have been watching you since your magic and busking videos. When you disappeared for a while I really missed your videos. Then, after what seemed like months or even years maybe I got some unexpected hope. In one of his videos Cavan Booth mentioned that you were working on something and would be back, but he didn't mention what it was, but it gave me a little hope that I would be seeing you again. Then months?/years? later your first card-counting teasers turned up....and here we are today! Great content as always! Thanks for the hard work! I know that planning/recording/editing/uploading content is time consuming. So thank you!
Purely top notch content! A series that will have me wanting more every time. Congrats on the success of this series in advance, but unfortunately it will blow up your channel to a point you might not be able to play anywhere any more.
Thank you so much Brad! 😃
Yeah it's a double edged sword. In a way, taking 6 months off UA-cam has been beneficial.
You're back! Yay! 😊 It's incredible to think how far you've come along since I first started watching your videos back in 2015. This card counting series is awesome! I was laughing when you were talking about that guy just handing out chips because I thought he's either generous for no reason, or he doesn't want to show id so he's getting rid of extra money to avoid being accused of structuring. And then you found yourself in that situation! 😛So happy to see you back at it! Love that this dropped the day before Thanksgiving here in the US. ❤💚
Thank you 😃 It is wild that my channel has taken this turn isn't it! Happy Thanksgiving!
@@stevenbridges My pleasure! Happy Thanksgiving (or Happy Thursday since you're not in the US, lol)! 😁

Welcome back. Your videos are informative, engaging and fun. Can't wait to see what happens next! Cheers and May The Variance Be With You!
Thank you Patrick! 😃
Happy you are back, Steven!
A couple of questions:
1) When you show your personal graph, it goes through Day 6 (which matches the video narrative), but your Team Graph goes through Day 11. Why the difference in time range between the two graphs?
2) What accounts for the spike in EV between Day 5 and Day 6, and then a return to the previous EV rate?
As always, LOVING your videos! Keep up the amazing work!!!
Great question! It's done based off sessions played not days.
Although EV on our graphs is pretty rough, it takes into account the rules of the game as well as speed of the game. So a game with a fast dealer is better EV. And for my team mates, the games they were playing varied more.
YAYYYYYYYYY! so so excited for this. Im sick right now and a bit bored so this is the perfect thing to see a notification for on my phone :) keep up the hard work steven

Just started watching your videos about 2 weeks ago. Glad you came back, awesome work Steven! 👏
Haha nice timing! Everyone else had to wait 6 months
yesssss another upload. Ive been waiting steven:)))
Discovered the series a few months ago and was hooked. Watched it a few times from start to finish, shared with my family, and watched with them start to finish. I've been checking Twitter almost obsessively for updates and when the announcement dropped that today was the day, I got super excited. Only when I got this giant dumb grin on my face from seeing the thumbnail of the video in my sub feed did I realize I miiiight have a problem. It feels weird to call myself a "fan" of a Blackjack player, but I suppose I am. xD
Anyway, the video lived up to the high expectations I set in my mind for it, and I really appreciated the commentary of the FUN HANDS around 11 minutes in. It's also a nice surprise to see you've picked up the expanded deviations!
Thanks for putting together these videos! Can't wait for next week.
Thanks so much Kris! Haha yeah I know what you mean - it's been a weird realisation that I'm a professional 'show my life as a blackjack player' person.
Yeah I now know that cheeky 8 v.s 3! And 8 v.s 2 (double at a true 15!) I'm yet to do do.
Very excited for this series to be back! Keep up the good work!

It was quite the adventure!
Just last week I looked up your channel to see if you had posted anything new. So happy you are back to uploading regularly (at least for a while)!
Thank you Caro! 😃
As someone who’s never bet money in a casino it’s wild to me that they will kick you out when you have so far lost money to the house.
That's the ideal time as he will start winning it back the longer he stays on a table
It's never about the actual results. It's about the expected results. Both for the counter and the casino. Fortunes change quickly in casino. Just because you highrolled into a win doing a suboptimal strategy doesn't mean you should keep doing it once you realize it's suboptimal. It's the same thing for the casino. Just because the counter struck out so far doesn't mean they won't make it up on the back end if you let them stay.
He’s actually back, love your videos, inspired me to learn how to count cards myself, though idk how long it’s gonna last, just started on basic strategies
It's fun to learn! 😃 Thanks for the support!

I had a similar experience in AC some years ago. I was playing Baccarat with two men from Hong Kong at 3 a.m.. I was getting my butt handed to me and decided to call it a night. As I was getting larger chips to take to the cashier, one of the men from HK said " you stay, how much you down " I told him 500, he gave me 5 thousand dollars worth of chips. He said, "you play one hour more". I said sure why not. I continued to get my ass handed to me while the the two gentlemen from Hong Kong were winning every hand. I told the pit boss after the one hour was up, " how much much will you give me if I leave". The gentlemen from Hong Kong gave me 5k more to stay for another hour. I walked away with 8k. The two men from Hong Kong had stacks and stacks and stacks of chips. They were laughing each time I lost 50 bucks and they won 20k. I eventually had to call it a night because I had a busy work schedule in the late afternoon. I woke up in the morning to Dom Perignon, steak and eggs, fresh fruit and an invitation to play Baccarat with the men from Hong Kong.
You're brave. Back in my day, yes I said that. The AP community did their best not to have stuff like this out here in fear of longevity. Kudos to you to be brave enough to try and do this with OSN and griffin out there.

The moment when the literal card counter was 8300 down, you know what the odds are with the average gambler

You should set it up as a calculus optimization problem and min/max the most optimal bet spread to the estimated per hour gains. If multivariate calculus is known, then one can use *Lagrange Multipliers.* The constraint surface should be the _expected value_ that corresponds to detection time; that is, the average detection time given the current betting method
It would be better set up as a quantum physics problem
Using card counting as a problem on a calculus test woud be interesting, either as a word problem to solve for probability distribution or as a "Give a real world application for calculus and give a generalized equation as an example". 🤓
Im pretty sure that’s basically what the calculator he uses does.
