My observation is that the better quality brands don't show much difference after firing, but with the lower quality/bulk brands it can sometimes make a difference.
I had a GA Precision PPR in 6GT and loaded up Berger 105's with Varget. Used Alpha brass and it was hard to find a charge weight it didn't like. Shot one hole groups at 100 yards with 34gr Varget all day long. The 6GT is the GO TO round for me! Great video Rob!
That’s a very interesting test. I thought there would be more difference between the new and formed brass. The lower velocities might have helped the group a little who knows. Keep up the good work I appreciate it. I’m not a competition shooter just a hunter and anything under 1 moa works for me. Your set up is pretty nice 👍.
Some energy is expended into expanding the new brass to the chamber walls and thus a bit less of the available energy propels the bullet. In this instance 5 shots does not tell the SD/ES story well enough. Also it would be better to alternate between fire formed and new each shot to mitigate some of the temperature rise influences.
This is something I've tested quite a bit and it really depends on the difference between the headspace of the new brass and that of your chamber, and how consistent the headspace on the new brass is, both of which vary widely by brand. I've had new brass that's within 4 thou of my fired brass, but I've also had new brass that was nearly 10 thou shorter. ES and SD seems to tie pretty closely to how close or far those measurements are with new brass. Regarding consistency of new brass headspace, it's always been pretty good on new box same lot brass, but often times mixed lot or 'bulk packaged' brass can have quite a bit of variance. In those cases you can usually see it in higher ES and SD
I always wanted to believe my fire formed, annealed brass, shoulder bumped to .002", perfectly trimmed, chamfered/de-burred, primer holes uniformed, would shoot better than unprepared "New" brass. I haven't really seen it just like you. It gets me wondering if I am doing too many meticulous steps that don't yield any benefits.
While I'm doing stupid things like uniforming primer pockets on Lapua brass I remind myself that I'm doing it to make as sure as I can that I don't get a flyer during a match. It probably won't change anything on most of the cases, but it might help some of them.
I agree with arctic fox.. the meticulous prep removes doubt from your mind that it was the brass/load and not you. Keep doing what you’re doing…. I do the same thing.😁
Hey Rob, what do you think about the different chemical compositions on the variations in a material, how do you know if your brass is actually a little less tin and is now "bronze"
Rob, I sure enjoy your videos keep up the good content. Just got the first 45 rounds down my new 6GT barrel the last couple of weeks, so far it’s looking good. I shot both H4350 and varget and so far it seems to like the Varget better, but it is early.
Bouncing a round off the ground could certainly affect its performance. The cold bore shot with the next 4 shots produced a tighter group than the new brass did slightly. Whenever testing never keep a shot that has an anomaly like dropping onto a hard surface. If I drop you on a hard surface are you the same as before the drop?
Not sure. That's why I went ahead and shot that round. Also don't necessarily want a load to be so sensitive that if I lightly drop a round that it no longer shoots.
Hello Rob. Good video. I have been watching your videos trying to decide on which 6gt rifle to buy. I have narrowed it down to two, GA Precision ppr or Seekins Hit. Keep the videos coming.
I am really enjoying your videos. I am really interested in a 6 GT to install on my Seekins Hit but Seekins is not producing that barrel, no lead times. Where would you recommend my getting a 6GT for my Seekins Hit rifle?
I have a 6 creed on order from Seekins, that I've been waiting on since February. You may just have to find a local smith to spin up a barrel. I am going to learn to do my own barrel work to hopefully mitigate this issue for myself in the future.

Good test and good results & good data. Thank you.

I kinda feel like a precision 6GT rifle like that should be shooting much tighter groups.

Nice group for 200 yards.

Thanks for the kind words. Varget seems to be the ticket in GT

I've never handled a ga precision but based on the cost it's probably a superior rifle if u have the budget.
Rob, what is your total weight of your seekins rifle and scope? Thanks Russ
@@rcg5076 before I added the mdt weights it was about 17# with atlas bipod
