Pluses for the 6Gt.1. Higher velocity, if you want it. It still feeds from a magazine better than the Dasher and BR. It can use a wider variety of powders, A larger range of bullet weights and shapes. It is arguably easier to tune than a 6.5/6X47, 6Br etc. including a 6/6,5 Creedmoor. In my head at least, this is a sweet potential rifle set up.
To me the best benefit of the six GT is the many different powders you can use. When components get hard to find you can always find a powder that will work in the GT
I love all the 6 BR family of cartridges. They're nearly impossible to shoot badly haha. I had a similar ejection problem with my Sako TRG 22 in 6BR. What happened was the case got flung out by the ejection plunger just as it left the chamber, but before it made it back to the ejection port. Such a short case is allowed to almost turn sideways inside such a big, beefy action. Re-barrelling to a 6x47Lap and then an additional switch barrel in .260AI makes for a good all-rounder!
I’m not a competition shooter. But used to shoot gophers out to 300 and a bit with my 6mm Remington in a model 700 varmint barrel. With 105 gr speer spitzer bullets I have recently put it a MDT chassis. Updated to FFP 34 mil tube scope And I am ringing steel out to 750. Not saying that the Br or Dasher or GT are not great choices. But the old 6mm Remington is still a very accurate cartridge. Thanks for letting me ramble. Lol Cheers
The 6mm Rem is a very large case for gophers. Burning all that powder heats up the barrel and will burn the throat. 6BR is a WAY better choice. You are shooting a case and bullet really meant for long range at pretty short range. There are much better options. A bullet like the 70gr Max or Ballistic Tip would be much better. I started out shooting gophers with a 243. The 6BR with a lighter varmint bullet would be a better choice..
The BR family will ALWAYS have feeding problems. The 6mm GT sounds great but I shoot a 6mm HOT ( 6mm/6.5X47 ) and the accuracy is superb and easy to tune. I’d definitely will go with a 6GT for my next barrel though.

Few weeks ago we shot our season finale. I run gas gun. (6 ARC) After we shot our last stage I wanted to check out some of the others guys' glass. As I'm doing so my friend says "Hey, few rounds in that mag if you want to try a bolt gun". No, I had not shot a open division bolt gun. He has a beautiful rifle chambered in 6GT. I thought sure, why not? Season is done I'll try it. To say I was impressed is a understatement. That open division rifle made 875 yards seem like childsplay. The recoil was light (But then again it is a 20+ lbs rifle), his glass is better than mine, easy to track, it was fantastic. All that said, after next season (2023) I plan on switching to open division but I'm going a totally different route, bolt gun in 6 ARC. I already know the limits of running a 105 and 109 berger with VV N150. (No, there's no load data for that.) With 105's on N150 I'm running at 2614 fps, sd 5 es 25. Slow? Yes. Consistent? Well, way better than factory ammo. Recoil is very light and out of my gasser 1/2 MOA is not a problem. So when I switch to bolt gun I'm sticking with ARC. Nobody makes a smooth action you say? Tuebor Precision in MI does. I'm not looking for screaming velocity. All any of us needs is consistency and accuracy. Is BR a bit faster? Yep. Not enough will be gained for me to spend the money to entirely change out dies etc to switch to anything else.
@@jordanjeanette7672 haven't broke down the financial aspect of it. When looking to squeeze every bit of accuracy you can out of a rifle most will agree that cost is the last thing they really worry about.
Both rounds sound great to me. The lack of factory loaded ammo and also factory brass for the dasher would indefinitely push me over to the 6GT side though. I can do without factory ammo…maybe… but I don’t care for cartridges with no mass produced factory brass.
Shoot a 6,5 creedmoor this year and wanted less recoil for PRS, so just bought a 6BR and had the same thoughts like you 😊 Didn't wanted to mess with fire forming brass and all sorts of stuff 😊
A little late to the party, but would your answer change if 6dasher brass was available? I was going to go with a 6 br until alpha had 6 dasher brass in stock. I figured I can run low velocities if I want, I can run high velocities if I want. Barrel life should be very similar to straight 6 br but just more flexible.
I have over 3200 round down the tube on my 6GT and I think it's finally done. Impressive lifespan. Will do some seating depths testing today to confirm.
@@IMPACTSHOOTING he does! If you ever come to Ohio, Keith will have to bring you to the Fin, probably a little different than gun shops in South Africa!
Wow… Not a creedmore?😂 How do they or the BR compare to the .243? Been shooting that since mid 90’s and see no reason to convert my entire system for shooting and reloading to a new brass
There's absolutely no reason for you to switch in my opinion if you're in the states and reload often for your 243 already, These 6's are cool little rounds though
If people are going back to slower speeds, I wouldn't be surprised if people start going back to 6.5 creed. Out of a 26" barrel you can get 153.5s going 2700-2750 and have way better wind resistance than the 6mm bullets
Recoil. Most shooters switched from 6.5mm to 6mm because of less recoil alone. PRS style shooting is 50% about recoil mitigation. They are timed stages. Being able to see your hits and misses without the target leaving your reticle due to recoil is at least half the game. "Time on target". If you could "effectively" get a 180gr 7mm or 225gr 30cal projectile with a .650bc+ to shoot 2800fps with the recoil of a 6mm......you could knock out half the competition. Some people are trying to "break the mold" by shooting a 7br or 7SAW and even 7saum but they all recoil to much to be quick and effective or cant push the high bc bullets fast enough. PRS is a .224-.257" game these days with most of the top 10 shooting 6mm. I think the .257" bullets MIGHT be the new sweet spot. You could also use those in the NRL hunter series.

How much you end up spending a road to load that? Love that cartridge but factory ammo is tough to come by
@@jordanjeanette7672 haven't broke down the financial aspect of it.
Just a note, Alpha does make excellent factory Dasher brass
Shoot a 6,5 creedmoor this year and wanted less recoil for PRS, so just bought a 6BR and had the same thoughts like you 😊 Didn't wanted to mess with fire forming brass and all sorts of stuff 😊
What about 6BRA ?
pretty sure you mentioned this on a different video but..... where are all the BAT builds?
Rumor is 6gt is about to have factory support
Well Lapua is making brass . If it
would ever reached the stores 😓
@@Greyzonecompliant well Hornady just announced factory ammo in 6gt and their new 338 arc round
Can't wait
No sound on video
Pete what's your thoughts on 223ai vs 223rem match or wylde?
I shoot straight 223rem
A little late to the party, but would your answer change if 6dasher brass was available? I was going to go with a 6 br until alpha had 6 dasher brass in stock. I figured I can run low velocities if I want, I can run high velocities if I want. Barrel life should be very similar to straight 6 br but just more flexible.
How close were you to saying what you really wanted to say at 1:30 ha ha ha
I went 6GT and won my first match with it.....but i came from 6.5 creed. Go video !
Would you're answer change at all on what you would use if you where going to use the same gun for hunting as competition.
I’m running the 109 Bergers out of my 6br @ 2778. Am I trying to push the 109 too fast?
Muted sound on my computer, a few seconds of sound at 5min mark for a few shots then back to mute even at full volume.
What's up with the sound..?
Completely agree!
Is the 6GT as accurate as the 6 Dasher? What about expected barrel life of the 6GT?
I have over 3200 round down the tube on my 6GT and I think it's finally done. Impressive lifespan. Will do some seating depths testing today to confirm.
100 years ago the Swedish 6.5 x 55 mm was developed and I don't understand how these new calibers do anything better.
no difference if your a hunter, only for the guy trying to put 5 bullets in the same hole.
So what about 6 br vs 6 bra?
Sounds like the same pitch Keith gave me when he built my 6BR!
Keith knows his stuff for sure!
@@IMPACTSHOOTING he does! If you ever come to Ohio, Keith will have to bring you to the Fin, probably a little different than gun shops in South Africa!
Gt all the way
Volume is screwed up BAD
I feel like I’ve been in a coma for 5 years… when did these rounds come out
What's up with the sound again.....
No audio
Wow…
Not a creedmore?😂
How do they or the BR compare to the .243? Been shooting that since mid 90’s and see no reason to convert my entire system for shooting and reloading to a new brass
There's absolutely no reason for you to switch in my opinion if you're in the states and reload often for your 243 already, These 6's are cool little rounds though
Same here,
No sound !!!
Cant hear anything .. what's going on
why not just go all out and go .243 AL i know it’s a bigger case but would be the best option
Hi, you're last few videos has basically no sound.
6gt with a 55gr nbt's at 3700 fps out of a 16" barrel is some bad coyote medicine
Sako true short action is the reason for 6bbr 6ppc etc.,.
Re edit with sound!
"Deadpool" haha
what is verkeerd met die klank
6gt with 105's 33 gn of varget and 2,945 fps very little recoil , can't beat that . and the sound is perfect , don't know why you guys can't hear.
hey Peter do you ship your muzzle breaks to Australia or have a dealer here that sells them thanks
