It’s time for a showdown between three of Mat’s favourite cars!
He’s in one of his favourite SUV’s, the Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio, and it’s going up against his favourite coupe/sports car, the M4, and his favourite performance estate, the RS6!
What’s more, despite all three cars being in different categories, they’re actually all pretty similar under the skin! Starting with the Alfa, it’s powered by a 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 which can deliver 510hp and 600Nm. It’s also not too heavy considering it’s an SUV, weighing in at 1,830kg.
The M4’s up next, and with a 3-litre twin-turbo straight-six under the bonnet, it can produce 510hp and 650Nm. It’s also not that much lighter than the Stelvio, tipping the scales at 1,730kg.
Then finally we have the RS6. It delivers the most power of the three contenders, with its 4-litre twin-turbo V8 putting down 600hp & 800Nm, but it’s easily the heaviest car here, coming in at 2,075kg.

In the world of performance SUV's, the Alfa Stelvio QV is criminally underrated.
I dont even think its underrated, every review I watched for stelvio qv and I watched A LOT, everyone said its amazing... But I guess ppl dont buy them cuz of alfa reliability myth and most ppl spending that much cash want snobby merc or bmw or something
Infotainment from a decade ago and the reliability of a the stock market. It's supposed to be a daily driver. No one takes an SUV for a spin on a weekend for the fun of driving.

Man that Stelvio shocked me in the drag race, I thought it was gonna slug home 3rd in comparison to the BMW and Audi, that was waaaaay closer than I expected.

I would love to see a Stelvio thats had the £600 engine remap to put out 600bhp to see how it would do against those two in a rerun of the race. Sure its cheating by remapping but still given the low cost to get an extra 100bhp seems really good.

@@tghyffhy4389 they are actually affordable for the normal versions but the higher end trims are around the $80,000 range…. Still, they are not very reliable and have issues over 40,000 miles.
They are scarce, I believe, due to their reliability as oppose to pricing.
I still really like Alfa Romeo with that being said.

The M4 did perform admirably, however the Audi and Alfa designs are already a few years behind.
All in all, I think overall the Alfa (Mom's Taxi) punched well above it's class.

The BMW would be far the most fun. You can tell from this video. The others just bounce off the line like you known four wheel drives will, but the fact the BMW launches with rear drive and then begins to absolutely walk the other two shows mighty in gear acceleration. I bet it's fantastic to hoon around in.
But its soo ugly, and that baby puke green doesnt do it any favours either.. The older gen is a 1000 times better looking!

The stelvio Quadrifoglio doesn't weights much at all, it's classified as a lightweight SUV that weights like any other normal car

Giulia weights 1620kg
M3 weights 1730kg
M4 weights 1725
Don't underestimate Alfa Romeo, it's way better and way more fun than a BMW.. If you don't trust me, just go and try them

I guess BMW is underrating its performance again. Most dyno owners already claim M's have a tendency to spread higher. Most M5 CS have about 675-720hp, many M550i 550+. This M4 Competition does not seem to have less than 540-560hp. It is lighter, but once a certain speed is reached and weight influence is not that important anymore, the powertrain of the Audi should beat the BMW - which it did not. Either the Audi has less power, more loss (which I doubt as quattro systems are usually greatly optimized) or simply has exactly the power it claims to have while the BMW does have much more.

Exactly! Would have been interesting to see a second run with warmer tires and a third run after a M4 burnout. It was so close already that I am almost certain that the M4 would have won the 1/4 race in that case it came so strong at the end. The new M4 X-drive will beat them all soon.

Great race. From a dig, the AWD version would definitely win, but due to drivetrain losses the RWD version would probably win in the roll race. I think on power while already moving, and for most backroad blasts, the RWD car would feel much quicker. It’s the one I would get. Actually, I would get a base M3, non comp, with a manual trans (being that I live in the US).

The Alfa is a joke and was only faster on the quarter mile because of AWD, the M4 is RWD and struggles of the line because of That, half mile and Rolling races the M4 destroys the Alfa and the RS6 or didn’t you saw in the drag race how the M4 catches up to the Audi and Alfa In the top end really fast?
