My mate has an RS4 and loves it. He tried the 6 but felt it was just too big and too thirsty. He's a motorcycle world champion and has the money but felt the 4 is just the better vehicle. For me either the 4 or the M3 Touring would be ideal.
Own an RS4 & drove the new M3 Tourer recently. Love the m3 but those bucket seat sides are chuffing annoying. Love my carbon black...
I’ve wanted the M3 Touring since they announced it years ago but unfortunately it’s not sold in North America so I have an RS6 Performance on its way from Germany. On our fairly rough Canadian roads the RS6 will be the much better choice and certainly my wife and family will prefer it’s ride and interior, but the 2% of the time I’m on a twisty toad alone I’ll wish I was pushing the M3. That said the walk up to RS6 will always make me smile. I don’t at all mind the views of the M3, I never hated the grill but the RS6 is the better looking car by my eye, and it’s not close. Great cars, great review.
What spec did you get it in like colors and such?
Standard rs6 has rear wheel steer as well. Not just the performance.

The price reasoning doesn't make sense, so the rs4 starts at 70k, the m3 at 86k and the rs6 at 115k. Still makes the rs4 and m3 a much closer comparision price wise

You’re right. RS4/5 is the competitor and in the same segment as the M3, not the RS6. Not sure why they did this? Two different segments.

It's compared to the RS6 because everyone knows its better than the RS4. I've had Audi's all my life and I'm upgrading from RSQ3 to the M3 Touring.

I agree. It's just that RS6 is way more famous than RS4. When it comes to Estate, RS6 comes into our minds faster than RS4.
All my life I dreamt for an RS4-RS6…and now that I can, I ordered the M3 touring. It’s just fresher in every aspect.. design / experience / fun / technology… the m3 touring just made BMW level up.
It’s almost as if they stole the estate show. Time for Audi new CEO to step up!

What a lovely dilemma to have if you can fund it. The RS6 P seems ideal for more major roads but the M3 T scores heavy on nimbleness and its size seems to more appropriate for our narrowish roads. However given the holed nature of the roads in the UK an old Defender with steel wheels may be the quicker option if you include visits to the tyre shop for replacements.
Had the v8 RS4 - loved it. Daily driver doing lots of regular work trips so long range comfort plus performsnce is critical. The BMW would be lovely/superb for a Sunday driver: engaging, tight, quick etc but I wouldn’t want it for relaxing competent work drives. So I’ve had the new RS6 for 8 months. It’s great. All I want it to be. Would I like the BM ? Yes, but as an extra and not in lieu. Different things for different needs.
I do think the M3 touring could easily handle long commutes. After-all, it is based on the current gen 3 series. The middle management company car of the pretty much everywhere. If you drove them and decided that then fair enough. I think to live with the M3 touring is ideal as it’s a lot of smaller than the RS6, and definitely better on fuel.
Perhaps an Alpina B3 touring would be more suited to you, as they are essentially an M3 touring but designed with comfort and luxury at the forefront.
I went with Sebring Black, Exterior Carbon package, 22” Matte Black wheels, Blue Carbon weave interior. It’s on a ship… hope it’s under the tree for Christmas!

For design, the V8 the quattro heritage I’m and Audi fan through and through RS6 all day long.

The interior of the Audi A6 looks like something from the past. Beautiful and up-to-date is different.
It boasts the BMW when you bring up a car a class above with quite a few issues on par.
I'm a bmw fan-boy, but that RS6 still looks beautiful outside.
I prefer the inside aswel,looks better quality ..the seats on the audi look super comfy, on the bmw it wil be torture for long drives i think

The RS6 perf. Engine are identical to the standard RS6, Urus etc. Only diffrent software. So the turbos a no bigger.
Rs6 is heavy compare to the M3 touring maybe the reason its not nimble ,,,...bust despite the sitting position i will take

I drove both back to back. The RS4 isn't in the same league as the M3 Touring in dynamics and outright pace.
They weren't ment to be in the same class,but there we go BMW has beat Audi in its own game by creating this M3 touring Beauty.

Both cars look fantastic but after owning both brands I find the quality and Finnish on Audis superior to BMW they also spend less time in the garage. So in conclusion it would be the RS6 for me.

The M3 is the best “one car” garage vehicle out there. It’s a Swiss Army knife and does lots of things well. I’m an RS6 driver and I can afford to have a few vehicles. You can’t beat the RS6 as a daily (comfort, looks, practicability etc) and for the weekends I’ll take something with two doors are rear wheel drive thanks. But, if I could only have one car forever I’d probably end up in the M3.
RS6 for me...much better looking exterior, nicer interior, V8 sound and only a little slower and less dynamic which I couldnt give a s#!t about really.

If you like a big screen mounted to the top of the dash, good for you. He also mentions its better quality, better fit and finish...which in part makes it a nicer interior.

The Audi is easily the better built and material finished car, but the BMW is the better driving machine. On UK roads the Audi is to big for English narrow roads. ❤ Even the BMW M3 CS is full of cheap black plastic and carbon trim. The Audi C7 is easily a better car than the C8 as it’s under 2 tons..

Interior space is bound to be larger in a bigger car.
It's like comparing an M5 estate if it were available to an RS4.
I have owned both a 3 series touring and a standard A6 estate and the 3 series was a far better car.
A6 was too large for British roads.
its a pointless comparison, the RS6 is a luxury GT barge with an exotic engine weighing 2100kg... its going to cross sell against big Porsche Turbo SUVs, URUS's S63s etc... its got double glazed glass, for crying outloud... the M3 is driver focused nimble super tourer... its going to be way more focused, hardcore - yet nowhere near as luxurious, or compliant

Both are too expensive, but especially the RS6. RS4 is a much better comparison to the M3 and much better value. Residuals are better too.

Such a silly comparo, The RS6 is like a super GT, that does everything well... ie beautifully built, super refined, super comfortable - like a Patek Aquatnaut... does everything well and is a jack of all trades... People are cross shopping this with Porsche Cayenne Turbos, Panamera Turbos, S63s etc... luxury performance barges.The M3 touring is a more hardcore, smaller drivers car - its nowhere near as comfortable, well built luxurious, and weighs hundreds of kilos less... its like an Omega Seamaster/Rolex Submariner... a Tool watch thats purist... not a cross continental high powered GT car with an exotic engine.
OMG, someone else gets it! These are different cars with different missions. The M3 touring is the drivers car, but the RS6 might be the best GT car in the world. (RIP AMG wagon.) IMHO, the presenters also give the impression that you can have everything in one sporty estate, and that's sadly not true, even for big money. Physics is real, and a dedicated sports car is just so much better when it comes to driving dynamics. IMHO, as much as I love a fast estate, if your resources are limited, I feel you're better off buying a Miata (Seiko 5?) and a lesser estate if you love driving.

Speed cameras, pot holes every 200 yds, heavy traffic max speed a good 30mph in towns
Hence why you take it to race tracks or quarter mile tracks, same with any performance car, (or even any car that goes above 30mph) we may as well all cycle then? i take it you are into fishing and not cars?

Both get about 15 mpg in the real world and as such are a total fail as GTs as you have to stop for fuel almost as much as an EV does

Why would anyone buy the RS5 over the M3 saloon? Audi are behind in terms of performance and are very dated. Look at the RS5 it’s not changed for years and it shows.

'RS6 to take on the M3 at its own game'? Dear god, they are not even in the same class - and Audi invented 'the game' with the original RS2 30 years ago. Anyone in the market for an RS6 is not going to even look at an M3 (not that you'd want to look at one anyway with that ghastly front end!), and vice versa. You may want to look at your homework again, and realise the 3-Series competes with the Audi A4, and Audi's 6 models rival BMW's 5-Series. Of course the M3 is going to handle better - it's a much smaller, lighter car....... but you're not going to fit as many wardrobes, mountain bikes or Labradors in the back of it - which is why they shouldn't be compared!!

You will only see the rear anyway, as it gaps you at every corner and straight.
Of course they shouldnt be normally compared but its down to how just how fast and just how good the M3 is that theyve had to compare it not to even the regular RS6 but the RS6 performance.
I baulked too at the 'at its own game' statement as its the RS6 that is the legend here however im assuming he means 'being a bloody good performance estate' which the M3 is the benchmark, allbeit a new one.

These cars aren’t in the same segment or direct competitors. The RS4 is what you need to test against the M3. But I would take the RS6, it’s just beautiful. Don’t care if it’s not *as* engaging.

So you claim to be 5' 9" do you? That's almost Dwarven. But you have the hair to go with that look but the beard needs to _"somewhat grow more"._ ;-))...
That aside, 2 great cars. Though I wouldn't have those _"racing seats"_ that the Beemer has.
Such a flawed comparison loaded with ambiguity and contradiction, should we really be surprised though; its what we have come to expect... As an example, if you want to use the Telephone, you don't need the MMI just press Tel on steering wheel and scroll from the drivers display or say the name. Just because you have a scroll wheel in the Beemer does not mean you don't take your eyes off the road. Also as with my Vorsprung A7; if you want the car cooler or warmer just speak. Most on the move options can be accessed from the steering wheel and displayed between the Speedo/Rev display for selection. In fact I don't use the touch screen for much on the move and the second lower touch screen is very intuitive once you become accustomed to using it muscle memory takes over, like pinch to sync in the climate control, I never think twice about or take my gaze from the road. I set the haptics of because I like the screen to be slick an sensitive to touch not push. This is much more akin to my smart phone. I tend to use Android Auto more anyway so the most crucial and well used car controls, even Sat Nav are all available from the steering wheel or voice control.
So Look the RS4 I agree is a couple of generations behind the M3Touring Comp' but the RS4 Competition in Europe when kitted out with similar seats to the M3 Comp' the interior looks amazing and speaks volumes for a design many years older than BMW's. There is also plenty of kit like coil overs and light weight alloys for a few hundred euros cheaper than the M3 Touring Comp.
I was watching GRIP the German test between these wagons and it was amazing how close the RS4 Competition was both in the 0-62 dig and around a track. Around the track where you'd have expected the BMW to show its superiority with its 60PS and Torque superiority but it was just a tenth and half quicker. The RS4 shape also stands the test of time very well in my view its a better resolved design outside. In the end they selected the BMW as winner because it was a tad better all round for a few hundred Euros more money, that should not be surprising as they are I agree from different eras but the RS4 was not at any point embarrassed and still looks amazing.
So maybe a little long winded but my point is in this video, you were comparing Apples with Melons. For what it offers and what its focus is, the RS6 Performance is without peer and has a car park kudos and head turning road presence that the M3 Touring will never have.
