    Tool Sober Lyrics:
There's a shadow just behind me,
    Shrouding every step I take,
    Making every promise empty,
    Pointing every finger at me.
    Waiting like a stalking butler
    Who upon the finger rests.
Murder now the path of "must we"
Just because the son has come.
    Jesus, won't you fucking whistle
Something but the past is done?
    Jesus, won't you fucking whistle
Something but the past is done?
Why can't we not be sober?
I just want to start this over.
    Why can't we drink forever.
I just want to start this over.
I am just a worthless liar.
    I am just an imbecile.
    I will only complicate you.
Trust in me and fall as well.
I will find a center in you.
I will chew it up and leave,
I will work to elevate you
Just enough to bring you down.
    Mother Mary won't you whisper
Something but the past is done.
    Mother Mary won't you whisper
Something but the past is done.
Why can't we not be sober?
Just want to start this over.
    Why can't we sleep forever.
I just want to start this over.
I am just a worthless liar.
    I am just an imbecile.
    I will only complicate you.
Trust in me and fall as well.
I will find a center in you.
I will chew it up and leave,
    Trust me [x5]
Why can't we not be sober?
Just want to start things over.
    Why can't we sleep forever.
I just want to start this over.
    I want what I want [x4]

This is what rock is all about: sans the fancy and flair, just serious energy seizing everything. Missed these times when talents were still raw.

This is called absolutely losing yourself in the music. He isn't high. He's being taken back to what caused him to write these lyrics and feeling every emotion.

I like this better than the studio version for one small weird reason - in the chorus. The “we” in “why can we not be sober”(also the “to” in “just want to start this over”) (good example: 2:45 - 2:59) in the studio version it sounds like two notes and is more melodic. Here it sounds strained like he’s yelling it sort of. And it creates an interesting note and overall feeling. chills 👌🏼

Thank you for this video so much..... Finally saw them for the first time live at Brixton around 2000, having already been a fan since before this concert. Seen them a bunch of times since and always blown away. Usually people need an IQ over 130 to appreciate them, that's why Britney sells more shit.

you realize he went to art school and he was a stand up comedian, he's just acting

The gentleman singing may be high on drugs. Does anyone have any proof? Performing such an intense song and making the thousands of people happy should be the focus of discussion.

Destroyer of Evil seriously? have you ever seen tool live Maynard is always dancing in the shadows these days, he went to art school, he is a comedian, no one who look like there about to kiel over has as much energy as he does, he is acting. Yes i'm certain he has done his fair share of drugs but as he once said "its something you do once and try to recreate over the next 10 years"
