  • Hi friends, today we are going to make my favorite family version of Adasi (عدسی), which is Lentil Soup. This is a perfect dish for a cold day.
This dish is often served during breakfast but you can have it anytime really. It was a street food item when I was growing up & it's a healthy, wonderful soup. This food is vegan if you don't add chicken broth, since originally it is made only with water. Hope you enjoy this with friends and family during the chilly season.
    Ingredients List:
    - 2 1/2 cups green lentils
    - 1 onion (medium to large)
    - 3 Potatoes
    - 2 Medium Carrots
    - 1 Teaspoon Salt
    - 1 Teaspoon Black Pepper
    - 1 Teaspoon Turmeric
    - 1/4 Teaspoon Cayenne Pepper (optional)
    - 1 Serrano Pepper (optional)
    - 12 cups of Chicken Stock or a mix of Stock & Water or just Plain Water. I mixed 4 cups of Chicken Stock & 8 Cups of Water (you can use Beef stock, Vegetable Stock, or Just Water as it's made traditionally with only water)
    Vegan Option
    - Vegetable Stock or Water

The most delicious Adasi i had it was in Tehran and probably 20 something years ago, when we were at station 7 of mount Touchal before going for skiing. It had dried lemon and potatoes in it and a special spice which gives it good flavor i don't remember now! Thanks for the video, reminds me good memories in Iran.

I just found your channel and have been watching as many videos as I can. I love how calm you are in the kitchen. I made this stew last night for dinner and am having leftovers for dinner tonight. This is the best lentil stew I've tried. Thank you!

I make this but never put potato’s or carrots in but I do add dried lemon. I will try your version- just right now winter is around the corner.

Hi Yousef, I love watching all your videos, I have been cooking middle eastern foods for about 3 decades now 😅, but I’m always learning new tips, we do enjoy spicy food in this house, so I wanted to ask you what kind of chili powder do you use??is it Cayenne pepper?
Thanks for sharing all your wonderful dishes and expertise 🙏

I'll have to try this recipe since I love lentils and Iranian food. Years ago I had a wonderful Iranian sweet and sour beet and beet greens soup, but I haven't found a recipe for it anywhere. If you know a good recipe for it, please do a segment on it. Thank you!

Was your friend from Yazd? There is a soup called Ashe-shooli which is made from lentils and beetroot. My mum’s friend made it the other day and I had it for the first time.
