How to Remove and Replace a Broken Coil Connector
Вставка
- Опубліковано 3 лис 2019
- Ignition Coil Connectors are commonly broken, as these electrical connectors may become brittle over time. When the tab breaks off the electrical connector it can become difficult to remove. In this video we show you how to take off an ignition coil connector on a VW or Audi with a broken tab on it. We also show you the process of how to remove the terminals and install a new connector. Replace the broken ignition coil connectors on your VW or Audi 2.0t or 2.5L engines.

Rock solid. Splintered two of mine changing coil packs trying to clear a misfire code, and stumbled on this. Ordered replacements from Deutsche and had them in within a few minutes. You can do it, my people!
Thank you for taking the time to make this video. As someone who owns a 2.0 TSI VW, I really appreciate you illuminating this murky subject!
Nice vid! Great to see you have an easy replacement kit. I will be sure to buy from you guys when I need one.
Very nice tutorial! I didn’t realize the connector could be replaced, I thought one would have to replace the entire wiring harness.
That'd be silly
So no need to change the wires just the connectors and all good?
@@dennisakoglu2718 Hi Dennis, you're correct: just need to change the connector. The wires usually don't get damaged, but the connectors get damaged all the time because the process for properly disconnecting them is not obvious, so people tend to manhandle them and break the fragile plastic. Therefore it's actually really nice that there's a way to replace a damaged connector without having to replace the whole wiring harness :-)
@@tedjohnson64 thx for advise bro
This was very informative, Paul. I had no idea they were fairly easy to replace. I was sweating it when changing plugs a few months ago just waiting to hear that familiar “snap” of plastic breaking.
Great video, I'm gonna be doing this now.. I thought it was normal to have a wrestling match with the connectors
Thank you so much for this video it kept me from breaking mine and I was able to get it off instantly after I watch the video and I'd already spent 20 minutes trying to figure it out myself😂
It shows you how bad the design in that it's not immediately obvious how to work it.
I’m frustrated that I can’t source a taillight socket anywhere. But maybe this video will be my work around. DAP, your videos are really good. Thank you
thank you on behalf of my r36 for an easy brand new connectors install :D
Paul thanks for the video. I need these connectors since all 4 are broken on my gti and I’m going to buy it from you guys 😎 👍🏼
Thanks for the support. We appreciate it very much!
Thx u man! The best explaining & understanding video about this connector situation on YT…. I was going to give up but good thing I had found your video…❣️🤞🏽💯
This is the simplest, quickest not to mention cheapest fix that no pro mechanic fixes ever.
Ok?!?!
Bought connector from you after watching this video, but it was the wrong one! Had to end up buying mine straight from the stealership for half price, but at least they’re fixed now. 🙏🏼
Sorry, I have a MK6 Golf TDI, but I did enjoy learning and the video. Please continue the relaxing content. What is the plan with the touareg?
Great video! thanks for making this video, it is very helpful.
Thanks for this video. I just replaced 2 connectors and saved lots of $.
DISCONNECT THE BATTERY lmao
I pushed down on mine and they snapped. The tabs were really difficult to push down. Using a 90 degree pick is probably easier.
Rat chewed up my camaro electrical wires connectors, deff needed this thanx
Thanks Paul! You saved me an expensive visit to the dentist as I was about to rip those damn connectors off with my teeth
Thanks man your video helps me
Thank you, very helping video
Love the ending!
Good intel 🍻 bought one and prior things and future things. I appreciate the great instructional videos. Showing support in return by shopping for parts from Deutsche Auto Parts is the least people can do.
great vid man
I feel like I should buy a connector from you. And none of mine are broken.
Ere 4xe,xx,,x3,,,3xx3x
I want to buy connectors from them too, and mine are probably broken, but I spent all my money on gasoline cuz I'm running too lean. Uuuggghhhhhhjh pray for this girl, much needed.
I have used a paper clip bent just right to release those pins.
I just wanted to say thank you for your comment. I was struggling with trying to get the connectors to release and the paperclip method worked 💯.
I finally got around to doing this on my Tiguan. It really wasn't as hard as I thought it would be.
best video on coil connectors info/instructions clear and easy perfect for an vw owner, showed me how to remove the wires correctly. #skylog #Ayiinmyke
Awesome thank you this is very thorough much appreciated...now I can buy a VW tiguan and rest easy :)
very helpful, thank you. now I'll go buy some replacement parts from your web site
Nice video Thanks!
Very informative, I am going to fix the one I broke on my 1.4tsi ACT CPTA engine, only thing is what kind of terminal tool will it be? I would order from you guys but I live in the UK and don’t fancy paying £10-40 in import duties, I have seen a laser branded one which I have good experience with (with their thin spark plug extractor) part number 3932 ☺️✌🏻
Thanks for detailed explanation, great video, do you need to disconnect battery before you work on coils adapters??
Very great video
Great video!
Only reason Im watching this is cause one of my wires broke off from the back and I needed help on how to fix it good video btw
Super helpful!
Great work guys, I'm about to attempt the same thing, I'm going to refresh my wiring as well,
Excellent info..
Great video
hi , Humble mechanic , my scirocco 2.0 tsi need a fuel pressure sensor replacement can you please do a video on how to do it? cheers
Can you make a video on a bad dsg dmf I’m so confused on how to tell if mine is going out or not
I have no fire on cyl 1 after intake manifold replacement. It's not coils or plug, but I did damage the connector a little.
Could that be the reason or is there anything else it could be, like a fuse?
I broke 4/5 of these on a 2010 2.5. I will buy the replacements from DAP! Do you need to disconnect battery before doing this or is there no risk of some sort of electrical damage?
Very good videos
I have 2 broken. I’ll be buying!
This may be a crazy question but are the connectors for the coil packs the same used for the tail lights? I have an '06 A3 8P.
Thanks.
hi mak i thank you so mushe -you helped me
Is this good for all engines with them? I have a grand Marquis
Is it possible to buy just the terminals for the wiring? My connectors are not broken but noticed that my terminals looked oxidized. Used some electric terminal cleaner in the mean time.
When will you continue on the VW touareg I have the same engine in my Audi A6 C5 and I want to know what will you do next pleeeeeeeease
What size terminal tool do we need to use? I need to replace a connector plugged into my intake
So mine is an Audi A4 2007. I changed the coil packs twice and the spark plugs. Still had an issue with #2. Would this connector fit on the audi?
Hoping I can do this exact thing on my 2015 Hyundai Veloster Turbo. Not sure though.
could a damaged connector cause the vehicle to misfire?
Yes.
Yes mostly definitely
Yes
yes, if it doesn’t throw a check engine and it’s misfiring change spark plugs and then check the packs, if the connector clip is cracked it could be not seating all the way down and causing misfire
Yes, most definitely
Does it have to specifically be this one because I bought a genuine one and its the right piece just my wires won't snap in so does it have to be this one?
Thanks 🤩
Hi don't you have a video to replace a ignition coil pack on the golf 5 gti fsi {bwa} engine
Hey guy help me out I forgot which colour wire on which pin no. (1,2,3 or 4) I don’t know & the is a heavy misfiring
Ive got s 97 lincoln town car, check engine light was flashing and rough idle and hesitation/shakes when accelerating. took it in to get the spark plugs changed. And it Was worse , checked the engine and a coil connector was unplugged so i plugged it back again and its driving better but i got another flashing engine light today. Thinking maybe its the coil connectors? Or one of them ? They look old a tattered. What should be my next move to get done at the mechanic ?
Hello, My Audi doesnt have this connector on Turbo Sensor, will this type of connector which connects Coil work on Turbo ??
Same for mk7’s mqb engine?
Where can I get the lock ring and connector seal separately?
Hi, my name Genival,
very good video
I have a Passat highline 2.0 turbo
When I changed the connectors I forgot to take a photo of the wires,
Could you send a photo of the thread sequence?
Thanks
Thanks,
I have to replace a couple of connectors.
They became brittle after 20 years...
Hey I have a 2004 Nissan Marano I got a tuneup and cylinder one still misfire what could possibly be the reason why only one still misfire
Mine is really bad - can replace the complete harness? Is this available at your online store?
Hi where can I buy the pin tool ?? Thanks a lot
Do you have these for a 2016 3.6L V6?
Where can i get a terminal tool like that one?
Is this the same with the mk7 gti? I have a 2015 gti and want to replace the one I broke.
Could you guys please do a video on a MK6 GTI reseal cam cover.
I just broke 2 of them trying to replace the coils.
now I have utra crap idle, and broken connectors.
Where can I order a new wire with terminal on it ?
Is that the same connector as the fuel pump? (2004 Passat)
Hi there, if the number of the wire is not correct. What will happen if we try to start engine?
Thanks
Do you sell the connector for a 2018 Tiguan MAP sensor? The one with the gray tab?

Can a broken ignition coil wire connector cause a misfire?
Hey so I broke two. Could this cause a code to say multiple cylinder misfire? Engine runs fine as if there isn’t a problem and not check engine light… weird
When I did this I didn’t unhook the battery in two of my plugs soldered together in now I have no spark do you know what could have happened?
Paul help please
I have an engine that shakes badly after we thought the problem was the injector!!
Well, we had to change one of the injector's but the rugh throttles and shakiness still there!!!
What do you think it is the problem mate!!?
AHH!!! I've got a 1.6 TDI VW engine by the way.
Thank you Paul
where can I get the terminating tool from?
I broke a purple locking tab is there a place I can buy replacements?
Hello! Might be a longshot but i really really need help with my Volkswagen Tiguan 2012 160HK Engine code: CAVD, CTHD.
I've had my car in to the local workshop/repairman who has changed all 4 Ignition Coils, all 4 Spark Plugs and also tried to change positions of the new Ignition coils with each other to see if the "code-reader" the pc or whatever i should call it would say anything new.
Translating with google on alot of these things, sorry for that.
so to the problem:
The scan/reader gives error messages:
P035100, Passive/sporadic, ignition control cylinder 1 malfunction.
P230000, Passive/Sporadic control ignition coil 1 short circuit to goods
P050700, Active/static, idle control speed above the setpoint.
P227900, Active/static, leakage air into the intake system.
P030100, Passive/sporadic, 1st cylinder combustion ignition located
P130A00, Passive/sporadic, cylinder removal(Maybe should be cylinder opt-out)
P030000, Passive/Sporadisk, combustion fault ignition located
First it only showed the passive/sporadic error codes the first 3 times i turned it in to the workshop.
Then more came.
The car can work normal, but the engine light is on. then suddenly the car can start "shaking" and the more i try to accelerate the more it shakes.
As said before. The repairman has tried to change all ignition coils and all the spark plugs. Now he said i could try and search around on the internet to try find what is needed. He is pretty old and not that good with computers, that's why he asked me.
Please, can u help with the problem ?
Would this work for a 1.4 tsi Jetta?
Hey guys after watching this video I was stoked to go put new connectors on after seeing how easy it looked...I forgot to DISCONNECT my BATTERY and while unplugging them from the rear two of the wires touched making a little zap. I finished putting all the new connectors on and now my car will crank over and will not start.and now hood is flashing red on dash. What do do,Did I try the computer or is there a fuse or relay I should be looking for?please help me..
just did this lmaooo
btw its the 20a fuse in fuse relay number 8 under hood under windshield wiper tank on drivers side (left hand drive) replace and should be good to go.
@@Lovely_planet I didn’t disconnect my battery either. Now I have a rough start/idle and check engine light. Same thing?
Unfortunately mine broke and will not stay on so now I can not drive it till I replace the connector
What if you don't have that releasing tool for the wires? Can you splice all the wires with the new connectors?
I wouldn't. The tool is best, but if you have new connectors the old ones will likely just fall apart. The little plastic piece separating the wires facing the coil is thin and usually brittle. Most fell apart when I did mine, but you could do the same thing by breaking it off with some needle nose. Pull it forward. Pull the wires out the back. Just be really careful with those wires.
Is this the same for a 1.8t
Thank you for this tutorial!! I ended up breaking the clip from the connector harness but it seems snug. Do I need to replace? Or do you recommend a replacement?
Just did the same thing today drove it around didn’t misfire or anything so I’m assuming it was pretty secure but I would personally still replace them just to be safe
Zip ties ftw!
this happened to me just today. Tried to figure it out how to remove these clips but accidentally broke off the clip you need to push in order to slide it out
Just my clip broke. Can I continue to drive with a single broken clip?
For those without the specialty tool. 2 paper clips.
I'm having a problem putting it back after valve cover seal replacement
what is the part number for this
is it a VAG original part? i found the ones that need you to cut wires and stuff
Also it's not in stock in your webpage
Do you need to unplug the car battery ?
What if all the wires are black? I messed mine up on 2011 Altima and smelt a burning smell..HELP
