Apples don't turn brown because of the type of knife you use! The process is called oxidative enzymatic browning, and it's a natural process that occurs due to enzymes in the apple interacting with oxygen in the atmosphere once you cut it open. You can slow it by adding acid (i.e. lemon juice), covering in water (holds it off for longer but water also contains oxygen so it'll still happen eventually), or adding sugar (but apples don't need sugar, they're already sweet!).
Just a little tip - when making that bolgnaise sauce if you fry the onions and mushrooms first then add the meat and cook till the meat is browned you will have a lot more flavour 😊
Amanda Head agree 💯 that’s what I’m doing every single time. I’m waiting till onions are soft and golden and they even taste better while eating because they are not crunchy
Oh god, seriously, also don't try and brown a huge pack of meat all at once, because it won't brown (as you can see - she's got some greyish bits and the rest is pink!)
The apples turn brown because of the oxydation of an enzyme, which is already inside the apples. Which means it will turn brown no matter what if the inside is in contact with air... the thing would be to seal them right away i guess
Wait so if it's the knife that turns my apples brown, why do they also turn brown after I take a bite? Should I replace all my teeth with ceramic dentures?
Just bought the Meal Planner and Grocery List bundle! I have been searching and searching for something like this for so long. Everything else has tons of ads, and just isn't what I wanted. I home school three kids, and we do all sorts of cooking together and this helps make it SO much easier to organize!
The caramelization of the onions and other veggies will give it a more robust flavor. Even without any seasoning, caramelizing will give off plenty of flavor, but if you add in herbs and spices...man, you have yourself a superb tasting dish! Plus, if the onions are in the harsh side, which some can be, it will take that edge off.
I thought this also.. but then im thinking... if she says it's a hack then maybe her apple are actually not getting brown with that method ..? Curious. 🧐🧐
Hi Nicole! Great tips! My I just point out that for the Bolognese you should start with the onions and garlic, then you add the meat and the rest of the ingredients. Ask your grandmother what refogado is ;)
Just started following your channel and subscribed a few videos ago. I have been watching every single one of your videos for the past hour; especially these food prep ones! I just got my first home and have been getting into a routine - love love love and so helpful. Thank you!!! ♥️

Love that veggie hack. I buy a lot of vegetables and don't tend to use them all throughout the week and that hack will defo help me to spend less on shopping.
With apples if you want to take them on the go pre sliced cut them up then put them back around the core and wrap it in a paper towel and secure it all together with an elastic.
For the ceramic knife hack she is NOT saying the apples won’t turn brown at all but what she says is that the “ceramic knife is going to HELP reduce oxidation” ( 2:13 ). What I get from what she was saying is that using a ceramic knife is going to slow down the process of oxidation rather than stop the process
I really want to order the glass straws from the shop, but the shipping is more expensive than the straws. Anyway we could get a range of shipping options? I don't mind if it takes longer. If I was placing a HUGE order an extra $10 wouldn't be crazy, but it's so hard to spend more on shipping than on the product itself!
Where do you live? We have worked to lower shipping costs world wide as we absorb some of it to make it more affordable. Email customerservice@healthnutshop.com to inquire 😊
Can you share your recipe for your green juice smoothie in this video? This one looks super yummy. I’m new to green smoothies and not sure what’s the best liquid to use.
Thank you for the video! Very helpful and awesome hacks! Have you tried flax milk? I just discovered it recently and omg. I like it better than almond. The other day I warmed the flax milk up and added matcha green tea. It was sooo good!! Highly recommend! 🍵👍
How do you store fresh vegetables that you bring home from the store? I bought some reusable veggie bags so that I don't use plastic one time use bags but I find they don't keep them crisp long
Hi Nikole can you do on video on your go to spices. Am trying to find low carb seasoning or natural herbs that will give food flavor. Thanks in advance if you to.
If you put a popsicle stick in each little cube you will have smoothie pops...fun-sized, for late night cravings....or for whenever...cuz why not! I do these for my kids but I use the actual popsicle containers, because the ice cubes are just to small. But way better than those sugary pops at the store.
first time in my whole life i saw someone cooking on a stove without frying onions first (until golden), and then adding meat frying it until almost done (adding spices towards the end), and just after that adding the rest of ingredients , depending on what you wanna make. i am serious. it feels so wrong to see all of that added into your pot without firstly frying onions and then the meat with the onions. is this how people from other countries cook? :O
That is how I cook and I’m in the same country as the woman in the video. Idk if it’s just a her thing but I definitely brown my onions before anything else
Double the meal is really easy to do somtimes i am using that hack if we switch meals when a movie is on dimner time and your parents will be at home late the next day. If that happens i just put the meal in the microwafe the next day.
Hi Nikole! , Thank you for this video, it was so useful! I loved the hack about saving the veggies in water, though I would like to know how long do they last like that? 🥑🥑🥑🥑💜💜💜
A meal prep planner....that's my vibe. Uggghhhh I can't wait anymore....Can we please know what the big news is? Sssoooo exciting!!! Beijinhos para os dois.

lalayanga well actually apples do not brown because of the knife. It’s a process called oxidation which has to do with the enzymes of the apple being exposed to oxygen..... this is just selling knifes hun! Lol..
If you google it you’ll see that the type of knife you use makes a difference. If it was about sales or money I wouldn’t be providing free videos 3 times a week to my viewers. I hope to help inspire.

Also, maybe a little more research on the whole ceramic knife thing... oxidation is caused by oxygen exposure... 🤷♀️
I'm pretty sure you can, you just want to make sure you leave extra space in the jar if it's filled with soup or some kind of liquid because it'll expand. Jordan Page at Fun, Cheap, or Free has awesome freezer hacks because she owns like 5 freezers l. Definitely look at her channel too!
I don't think you should - even if you leave enough room for expansion, it would probably crack when you thaw it.. But there are glass containers which can resist temperature switches like that.

Okay so glad someone said something, because I just paused the video to specifically address this product plug disguised as fact.

Putting lemon juice on them helps

After you cut it just dip to water + salt. And it will last longer and no taste change☺

Always saute onions and veggies first before adding meat/chicken.
I wish the meal planner/grocery list was free.
Cringed when I saw veggies weren't sauteed...
Why tho?
