FYI, use whole tomatoes as those are less processed and more flavorful. You can squish them by hand or just mix them up with the spoon when they're in the pot. I got that tip from one of the cooking shows.

Hi Sadia, I just made your tofu and pickled carrots sandwich. This sandwich is the best sandwich I ever had in my life, I Love Love Love it. Thank you for your wonderful ideas, you made me very happy during self isolation day 😋
I like that you included the oil and spices when counting the price. Most youtubers don't do that and it can be misleading as some spices tend to cost more than others.
Good point. But spices in particular last 6 months so after initial purchase they are pantry staples that over time don't cost that much, but definitely worth noting.
@BootsGrowRoots So a meal isn't a serving/portion? I admit I eat more like 2 servings as she shows them here, but I know people that would eat only one serving.
@BootsGrowRoots i see your point. Still, if we look at the portions after cooking, it's clear that she meant cooking a 4pers meal with each serving being an equal share.

The word that comes to my mind when I watch PUL videos and listen to Sadia speak is... *tranquility* ... a sense of peace and contentment. Her kitchen is designed perfectly to promote those feelings. I very much like the healthy green plants hanging above on the walls with their green leaves gently cascading down in contrast to the white neutral color scheme of the kitchen. That soft background provides a perfect backdrop for highlighting the healthy, plant-based meals she is preparing. Coupled with the quiet soothing music ... just so peaceful. This is the kind of atmosphere I want to encourage in my own home. Thank you, Sadia, for sharing your kindness, food knowledge, and warmth with us.
I find for the first recipe, cooking the carrot with the onions actually brings the flavors out way more, and you'll get a nicer texture from the carrots.
I tried all three recipes...they are all absolutely delicious! I even substituted the soy veggie crumbles for homemade vegan taco meat (mushrooms, walnuts, a few spices) and it was to die for.
@@leuvenfra Sugar with no chemicals is still going to spike your blood sugar. In extreme moderation, it's not bad for you but if you have more than 23 grams of added sugar a day, then it will cause your body to store extra fat, it will tear small holes in your intestines that need to be fixed with cholesterol, and it will make you feel hungrier throughout the day increasing the chances of you eating more calories than your body needs.
Can you do a recipe challenge where you don't use your favorites (i.e coconut milk, bell pepper, chickpeas..) I think it would be a good way to step out of your comfort zone, and introduce new foods.
Yes, maybe only seasonal products. Or something others like leek, brussels sprouts, fennel, savoy, salsify, rutabaga and so on. I would like to see this.
YES !!! Coz I can’t consume any of these. PUL ingredient list is like a no no for me but I enjoy watching them. This is a good idea to make something outside of the usual ingredients. It might help ppl who hate that

Hey accent while saying "Chana Dal " is so cute . I am Indian so I am familiar with the traditional Chana Dal but your take on it also looks delicious 😊
Perfect timing! I just started eating vegan two weeks ago and need to go shopping on a budget for the next few weeks ☺️ UPDATE:: Chili Mac is so so so so good! I added way more spice causeeeee spice is life 🔥
I live in the Netherlands and the prices are higher, a red bell pepper alone costs 1 euro. The first dish is about 5 euros depending on what you already have in your kitchen if you dont have the spices it will cost about 9 euros.
Prices can vary greatly depending on where you live (city vs. little town), where you buy (market vs. supermarket vs. local shop), also seasonality of ingredients has a huge impact.
I've been trying lots of your recipes lately and they are all great! What really sets you apart is the flavour. I find so many recipes are too afraid to use spices and a bit of heat. I'm not a vegan but I try to eat vegan meals during the week. It's a start :) Thanks so much for sharing such amazing content!
I was shocked when I heard the PUL studio is actually in the Netherlands... This channel is great! After I have watched a video I am completely zen :) Keep up the good work girl! :)
Dear Sadia, I made this recently and we all loved it (the babes too, and my husband, who doesn't love beans at all). Such a wonderful, colourful dish! Thanks!
my friend tried to be veganand he fucked up after 4 months. Dont try it if you have an active work life and quality work ethic. Body cant get enough calories from vegetables. He lost 7 kilos fall to 63 kilos at a 1,75 height. He was going to gym and he had to give up gym because of tiredness. Also vegan shit is so expensive.
I am hesitating about that. And besides that, I like to rinse of my canned beans etc. with clean water before I put them in my food. I do this because of the potential health risk of bpa/bisphenol A. Link: www.healthline.com/nutrition/what-is-bpa
For some reason, her voice made me relax. Like..properly relax, while looking at delicious food in the making. Im actually gonna sleep well now! Thank you!
so glad this just randomly showed up in my feed! I subbed the second you mentioned euros and metrics, and then it also was Vegan, AND a charming, sensible host ANDDD the recipes are killer. this is like that meme where that wrestling guy is having too much
Thank you for sharing this! I loved the way you add pricing for everything! The dhal recipe looks really yummy, different from how we make it back home, but I would like to give this a try
*One tip to prevent mushy lentils* , put a few tablespoons of olive oil in a hot pan and heat it till it sizzles, then add your dry lentils mix them around until they start to take on a golden color (keep them moving so they don’t burn) and then add your water. (Look out for lots of spattering when you add the water) and cook as usual. They will retain their texture and resist mushiness! Plus they are tastier this way.
@@Vscustomprinting I don't think soaking overnight is enough to ferment the lentils. I think soaking is more for removing oligosaccharides (fart compounds), because even though lentils have way fewer of them than beans do, they do carry them.
That makes sense, but given that this particular video is for budget meals, people who are interested in this video may not be particularly inclined to buy a pressure cooker if they don't yet own one. I hadn't thought to buy a pressure cooker for rice, so I'll definitely look into that. That may be a better idea than buying a rice cooker and a pressure cooker separately, so thanks for sharing that.
@@shirin8609 actually a pressure cooker doesn't cost that much and it saves time and money by not having to cook the lentils and rice for 25-30 minutes. And it can be used as a regular cooking vessel as well. 🙂

Girl, I stumbled upon your channel (SHAME ON ME for not knowing about you sooner) and i couldn't be more proud of you. I have watched three of your videos and I love your content. Thank you so much for sharing.

This channel is a jewel . I almost got tired of looking up for a worthy informative vegan channel that also portrayed accesible ingredients and with someone who actually knows how to cook ! Can’t thank you enough
Thank you for these! The chill is definitely one of my favourites now and it’s the best in terms of quantity. It lasted me about 3-4 days which is awesome.
First ever video I have watched of 'pick up limes' and I'm hooked.... Such a pleasure to watch and hear. There are a lot of meal prep videos. I will subscribe only for the aesthetics, everything fits in the finest of ways. Hats off to the creative process which put this together.
I'd love to see more of these. Your meals are always creative and different than the typical American meal (I'm from America) and I love that you priced everything out and explained everything.
Great video Sadia and the Pick Up Limes team ☺. I personally would like to see another minimalist video as well as a video about gas and bloating. Since switching my diet to more plants and whole foods, I've been having heart burn and bloating and gas and I would like to know how to decrease these symptoms.
Hey Rachel! Sadia recommended in another video to soak any lentils/beans etc. 12 hours before you cook them. If you change the water during this time, the stuff that makes you bloat reduces :)
Maybe you have an intolerance to something? Personality I have an intolerance to fructans, which is a specific carb found in garlic, onions, bananas, wheat and a whole lot more fruits and veggies. If I eat those I get painful gas and bloating.
@@RosesAndIvy that's really interesting. I haven't been eating anything new yet, just eating more plants and no animals...that's why I'm like "what is going on?" unless it's my body just adjusting?

@@liviapattiasina6310 Use some chopped walnuts instead, it's amazing!
Whenever my cooking creativity levels are low, I loveeee these videos. Thanks Sadia
Thank you for adding the costs of the meals. This is especially helpful for seniors and others who are on a fixed income.
The way you cook, speak, explain is so calming
This is not just a meal prep video, IT IS AN ART VIDEO. Images are too beautiful...
I find for the first recipe, cooking the carrot with the onions actually brings the flavors out way more, and you'll get a nicer texture from the carrots.
can you do fast easy vegan meal prep for students? i love ur videos so much!
She's posted a few of them. Just search her chanel for "student prep" (without the quotations).
banana.
I tried all three recipes...they are all absolutely delicious! I even substituted the soy veggie crumbles for homemade vegan taco meat (mushrooms, walnuts, a few spices) and it was to die for.
Finally a person who's not afraid to add bit of sugar to their meals if they require it!
It's Raw Sugar . Chemical free.
@@dhirajjadhav29 that was never the issue with sugar. It's the sugar itself.
@@EliasBlind no chemicals 😌
@@leuvenfra Sugar with no chemicals is still going to spike your blood sugar. In extreme moderation, it's not bad for you but if you have more than 23 grams of added sugar a day, then it will cause your body to store extra fat, it will tear small holes in your intestines that need to be fixed with cholesterol, and it will make you feel hungrier throughout the day increasing the chances of you eating more calories than your body needs.
@@codyelliott3142 you cant store more fat then you take in lol
I’d love a video on leftover ingredients or meals. How we can use and combine them to have zero waste!
The girl, the voice, the food, the presentation, the editing, the kitchen, everything is so perfect and soothing.
when i cook it's basically the exact opposite, everything is ugly and panicky and looks like trash but thanks for the inspiration haha
Practice! Soon you will have an "I see what they're trying to do" moment and after that, you will be able to look in the fridge and improvise.
obsolete professor thank you! i will
Every single chef that you see started from scratch. Things are hard at first until you make it routine.
Can you do a recipe challenge where you don't use your favorites (i.e coconut milk, bell pepper, chickpeas..) I think it would be a good way to step out of your comfort zone, and introduce new foods.
I agree! I'm not a big fan of bell peppers or coconut milk, but I find the PUL recipes very inspiring
I use a lot of the same staples you do but that would be interesting!
It might help ppl who hate that
Great idea!
I found your channel yesterday and have binge watched your videos.. not just because I love cooking, your recipes but the environment of your channel and the way you present yourself is so calming and relaxing to watch, thank you for the effort you put into your videos! It does not go unnoticed.
Hey accent while saying "Chana Dal " is so cute . I am Indian so I am familiar with the traditional Chana Dal but your take on it also looks delicious 😊
she is half indian isn't she
@@latisyaputri9569 probably of middle eastern origin rather
She is from Afghanistan and was born in Pakistan
Exactly I felt the same when she said Chana dal it was so cute 🥰
Yeah she sounded so cute 😍😍 and our Chana Dal is best 😎😎 😎
Perfect timing! I just started eating vegan two weeks ago and need to go shopping on a budget for the next few weeks ☺️
UPDATE::
Chili Mac is so so so so good!
This "pasta chili love child" is my new fav! Just made it for lunch and it made me feel warm and fuzzy. Great idea Sadia :)
Everything about this video is perfect, I love the plants that drape down in her background 😍😍😍
I came for a budget meals.. and I think that I've fallen in love.
bruh she said "while keeping my eyes on the prize" while making eye contact and my system automatically reset to virgin
and her voice... omg, so beautiful :0
Thirsty boy
Belquerst-then u dont know what love is,lol
same here :DD
I was shocked when I heard the PUL studio is actually in the Netherlands... This channel is great! After I have watched a video I am completely zen :)
Keep up the good work girl! :)
Me too! Not exactly a long time viewer, but great to see that their studio is in Europe! Always assumed it was NA for some reason...
Ik ook! :)
Dear Sadia, I made this recently and we all loved it (the babes too, and my husband, who doesn't love beans at all). Such a wonderful, colourful dish! Thanks!
And for 11 minutes and 43 seconds I wanted to be vegan.
Do the switch! I'm 8 months in and I've never been this healthy and happier before.
@@CalusoXP Liar
@@Sn1per9CZE It's all true. Try it :)
@@louisapproved I'd rather stay on the much more natural omnivore diet, but thanks :)
my friend tried to be veganand he fucked up after 4 months. Dont try it if you have an active work life and quality work ethic. Body cant get enough calories from vegetables. He lost 7 kilos fall to 63 kilos at a 1,75 height. He was going to gym and he had to give up gym because of tiredness. Also vegan shit is so expensive.
Love the filling the can to measure water, trick some viewers into rinsing there cans out to recycle as well as convient. 😂👍
Eileen Kelly i always rinse my tins or jars out to get the remaining bits out. No waste that way & ready for recycling too.
I am hesitating about that. And besides that, I like to rinse of my canned beans etc. with clean water before I put them in my food. I do this because of the potential health risk of bpa/bisphenol A. Link: www.healthline.com/nutrition/what-is-bpa
I love that you have plants everywhere in your house and you are so delightful to hear. Nice recipes. :)
For some reason, her voice made me relax. Like..properly relax, while looking at delicious food in the making. Im actually gonna sleep well now! Thank you!
so glad this just randomly showed up in my feed! I subbed the second you mentioned euros and metrics, and then it also was Vegan, AND a charming, sensible host ANDDD the recipes are killer. this is like that meme where that wrestling guy is having too much
This is like my visual yoga (even better) cuz it calms me down. The whole setting is just so aesthetic and healing. Thank you so much!!
Your videos help me to get so creative in the kitchen while also keeping budget in mind! Thank you! ❤️
For Indian dishes like dals or rice, buy a pressure cooker. easier and quicker than soaking overnight and then cooking for 20-25 mins on the stove.
no. fermenting is nutritional fundamentals 101. nutrition isnt always about convenience, and is often a trap
have some fermented dosas
House, atmosphere, lighting, esthetic, calm voice, simple delicious recipes and I can't get over how beautiful you are.
It's her studio for making videos. I guess you r new here 🙂
@pickuplimes I am watching these videos for over a yr I guess.. I can't tell you how much I love watching your videos.. You have such a calming voice and that smile 👌❤️
Wow! Its amazing how you create these recipes and all your efforts. Thanks I will wait your another creativity. Love you sadia
Would love to see a week’s meal prep grocery haul!
What is there to dislike this video for? Seriously. I mean, the girl has the voice of an angel. She is a good cook and she is in fact educated in nutrition. Girl, I stumbled upon your channel (SHAME ON ME for not knowing about you sooner) and i couldn't be more proud of you. I have watched three of your videos and I love your content. I love cooking curry lentils and sometimes garbanzo beans. I am not a vegetarian, but I have decided that I am going to become one. I need to get back into shape after neglecting my body for so long. Thank you so much for sharing.
I’m not even vegetarian but those meals look delicious
then add meat to make it even more delicious.
I thought about trying those sandwiches with smoked ham instead of tofu
Tried the chilli but i swaped chives to chicken meat, its good, not sure if better
Or just eat it as intended, because you are not vegetarian doesn't mean you *have to* eat meat.
what an ignorant thing to say, tofu is not a vegetarian invention it is an Asian food staple and can be prepared deliciously.
Hiii Sadia! Im from belgium and you inspired my SO MUCH.
I'm eating way healthier and I try to live positively like you😍😍😍😍😍loootts of love from your favorite fann😊😊😊😊
I love the fact that the recipes you have shown are from different cultures and the ingredients used are simple but flavourful.
You have such an elegant personality! Love your recipes 😍
maybe a video about the best “dutch” tips. like the best supermarkets, little hacks etc. great for dutch/german/belgian people & all who visit these countries. not a lot of (vegan) food youtubers live in europe!
Love meal prep on a budget!! Would enjoy seeing more bento-style meal ideas as well (I still go back and watch your others!!). Thank for sharing.
Love the make along button! Helps me calm my anxiety knowing I’m doing the right thing
First ever video I have watched of 'pick up limes' and I'm hooked.... Such a pleasure to watch and hear.
There are a lot of meal prep videos.
I will subscribe only for the aesthetics, everything fits in the finest of ways.
Hats off to the creative process which put this together.
Thanks for keeping an eye on the proteins!
As a plant based athlete, I love that, thank you!
oh man ! am i the only one who feels positive watching her videos?
I'd love to see more of these. Your meals are always creative and different than the typical American meal (I'm from America) and I love that you priced everything out and explained everything.
She’s Canadian
Please make more of these economical, healthy and diverse food videos. New subscriber from today. Love from Pakistan
She speaks so smoothly and so soothingly
OMG thank you so much Sadia!
Great video Sadia and the Pick Up Limes team ☺. I personally would like to see another minimalist video as well as a video about gas and bloating. Since switching my diet to more plants and whole foods, I've been having heart burn and bloating and gas and I would like to know how to decrease these symptoms.
Yes! The bloating and gas..😣
Hey Rachel!
Sadia recommended in another video to soak any lentils/beans etc. 12 hours before you cook them. If you change the water during this time, the stuff that makes you bloat reduces :)
Hey Alice,
As a long time fan of Sadia, I have indeed soaked my grains and beans before cooking, that's why I'm wondering what else I can do 🙆
Maybe you have an intolerance to something? Personality I have an intolerance to fructans, which is a specific carb found in garlic, onions, bananas, wheat and a whole lot more fruits and veggies. If I eat those I get painful gas and bloating.
@@RosesAndIvy that's really interesting. I haven't been eating anything new yet, just eating more plants and no animals...that's why I'm like "what is going on?" unless it's my body just adjusting?
Something about this channel that's soo refreshing😊💞
