You could just get a display dashboard unit from amazon and replace the brains of unit and never get charged again..

@Steve Summers , As a repair tech, this is all for education purposes and anyone with time can search for this documented information on their local internet. I am very aware of all the flaws in the system and all the components.
You have the dashboard system which contains all the bluetooth eeprom (Electrically Erasable Programmable Read-Only Memory) which can be updated with firmware, This is shown on many Russian sites for all the models that Xiomia creates (all Segways and Ninebots) or you can replace it with a new one from amazon and now it will be a Segway one and works with the Segway app after you update firmware for the internal controller and the internal battery or external battery.
All components have their own eeprom that can be updated. I don't expect this to be the norm for long since they are moving to other models and manufactures.
Lime uses a heavily modified controller board with its GPS getting power directly from the controller and this can be circumvented as well with some soldering.
The latest units now have a GPS cell tracker with an independent battery.

Cant even make it down a sidewalk, now. The things go fast enough to be on the road ... and they arent allowed on sidewalks, but they ride like dickheads on the sidewalk and leave 'em wherever.
If I'm going to be forced to deal with them, I might as well use 'em. I simply refuse to pay for it. Where is my city-issued scooter, huh?
