After getting HACKED over the weekend, SO many of you reached out with support and that made my heart explode. I adore you all so much. During that time I became super unhinged because I was literally in mental distress, so this video is completely unhinged. I hope you all still enjoy this, it’s not as highly produced as my other content and I’m a little bit more carefree with my sense of humor in it which I hope you all enjoy. The only reason I want the Nostalgia kick to die is because of scalpers. I personally think that scalpers and resellers are hurting the doll community. If you are selling a doll for a REASONABLE PRICE and not wanting thousands then fine. But if you want $1,000 for a Felicia then you shouldn’t be allowed to have dolls .
Scalpers really have been ruining it for people who genuinely love dolls. The only way I'd ever support or excuse someone charging that much for a doll now is if it was a 100% customized doll made from the ground up by hand like (maybe dollfie dreams or a smart doll) and I know it's going to be a loved and cherished treasure to me for years to come. Anything other than that? To hell with it. I'm not that desperate to pay a fortune for a draculaura or Jade doll.
I agree about the scalpers! So many times i have wanted a doll but can't afford it because of scalpers 😔
Scalpers and resellers don't just hurt the doll community. But I get your point. People shouldn't be allowed to resell toys if they sell them well beyond the retail price.
We should boycott them. But there will always be wealthier people who can pay 1000$ and that's what those scalpers are after. What can we do.
Scalpers will never go away, they'll just become few and far.
As a kidult who's been collecting since I was tiny I've noticed dolls are starting to look more bland and have worse quality. I actually got mad recently looking at dolls in Walmart the only nice ones r rainbow high and Lol surprise so others need to step up their game if they wanna keep us interested
agree, the selection is also pretty sparse. i remember having a tough time as a lil girl picking a doll. now i look at the aisle w confusion; wondering what kid wants this marketed towards them ? perhaps i’m biased tho? it perplexes me that the industry could struggle this much w plenty of info on how to be successful. bratz and monster high wasn’t just popular due to simple concept.. it was popular due to quality and creativity.
lol surprise has creativity.. but lacks distinct quality and the bratz babies body (i’m aware this is likely so kids feel more connected and familiar w the doll but eh) is not my cup of tea personally.
the rest of what’s currently on the market is tacky and inconsistent. maybe due to the trend of collecting? when i was young, being a doll collector was less common place. back then kids would accumulate like 10 dolls and wear em out till they fell apart before getting a new one. these days kids are encouraged to take care of their belongings but now doll companies treat their products as disposable trends. rip
honestly looking at anything besides rainbow high right now feels pointless to me. rainbow high raises the stakes so much, they are so high quality for an affordable price
A good amount of articulation should now be standard for all dolls. Especially needed for the adult collector who spends time photographing them.
Skulltimate Secrets packaging is okay. It’s more wasteful for collectors who might want to get all of the series than it is for a kid will likely only get 1 or 2. However, Amazon Canada is selling them as a RANDOM SELECTION. That’s right, even though the character is identified on the outside of the box, you can’t order the one you want. This is a worrisome trend, especially if Amazon US follows suit when they get stock.
Wait really?! I’m shocked to hear Amazon Canada is selling them as a ‘surprise’!!
When they first came out, you could choose, but then they changed it. Two people asked how you selected, and Mattel answered that it is random. I asked if they plan to reconsider, and they deleted my question. I know it would be much easier for retailers to just select because then they wouldn’t run into being stuck with the less popular dolls, but I hope there is outrage if they do this on a large scale, especially for something that costs $41-45 CAD ( they put them on sale a bit, and they are now sold out).
I don’t get the water suprise, no one likes it with barbie why include it for monster high too?? And for such a useless aspect like revealing keys like I don’t see any use..

The juicy drama between MGA and Mattel is just next level's level something that can be discussed for hour's._.
As a “kidult” who started collecting dolls again at the end of 2020, I’m getting pretty tapped out. I’m out of space, and I have spent a lot of money. Also, it’s getting harder to impress me because I now have a collection of dolls I already have that I am comparing to. Thank goodness I was never a completist and have always chosen my favourites across lines. Anyway, I think there are other people feeling like I do. I think the used doll market is going to tank soon, especially for recent dolls, and I think some lines will be cut in retail (there are too many anyway).
I’m not sure about prices vs quality in an inflationary market. I prefer to spend more on a doll that is worth displaying, but parents can only afford so much for their kids. I think that’s why both Mattel and MGA put out a much larger range of dolls at different price points than in the past. However, some of those lines are probably not doing that well and might end. Maybe LOL Tweens, Rainbow High Jr., Barbie Extra Minis?
I've been collecting LOL OMG dolls and Rainbow high dolls since they came out, and about a year ago I stopped buying every single one (I'm definitely a completionist). I still have plenty of space for them, It's just that I'm getting overwhelmed by the number of dolls they release lol. I would LOVE fewer releases with better quality, but I guess that would make them more expensive which parents would not like.
Lol tween are actually doing really good, they're even getting a movie and the big line of the brand this fall
I've been collecting since 1998! The quality has completely diminished.
I sure hope so, especially with MH where the prices have really shot up. I collected since they first released and took a pause after G2 dropped (as so many others did based on what I heard/read) but there are a handful of OG G1 I never got my hands on and trying to complete those has become painful to say the least.
As a “kidult,” i feel like several other collectors. Companies are pushing out dolls by the ton. Which makes it really difficult to collect. I’m a selective collector as is. I feel they really need to focus on that quality, less is more. Barbie,My Scene and Bratz used to push 2 or 3 high quality doll lines a year and managed to make high quality holiday dolls for valentines/easter/Halloween/christmas. I’m not sure where all that drive went. It would be nice to find a barbie with a detailed head sculpt, quality fashions, great hair and for gods sake, a Barbie that doesn’t have a pixelated face. Its time to retire the millie sculpt along with all those fired employees
I don't really buy Barbies, there just not worth, I rather save my money on a more high end doll like an integrity doll , but there a doll line you buy on amazing called naturalist like prettier version of black barbies and their about ten dollars

The *moment* I first saw Rainbow High dolls in the store a couple years ago, my very first initial thought was: Wow, these are for adult doll collectors.
Same! I’ve been pretty good about not over collecting and even sold a few but man they stepped it up in all categories and series 5 is only continuing to push quality
There is a lot of power in doing surveys for companies. The skulltimate secrets, was a survey idea. Also MGA's surveys are a direct way of shareing thoughts, reviews, and thoughts of products. Like, it is important too be genuine in doing a survey, because they take feed back as law.
Where can such surveys be found?

spill, even though i think the recent lols have been lacking, they are stable and still make decent dolls. rainbow high is cute but overrated, they lack character in their fashion, everything looks like it could be bought from h&m or zara 😭

Omg, yes! I'm still trying to get the Shadow High wave 2 dolls, but they always sell out. When I do find them, it's always when I no longer have money.

Wow, pink is your color! Just beautiful! I’m more of an enthusiast than a collector because I have limited space and budget. I’m tired of “fashion” dolls with no fashions available, so I’ve definitely curtailed my spending on toys. Am currently having fun with the new Disney ILY 4ever 12 inch dolls and their fashion packs. I get bored and love to restyle my dolls. I grew up in the golden “mod” doll era and miss all the amazing fashion packs.
I also think doll companies should invest more in their marketing - specifically movies and tv shows. I remember picking Barbie movie dolls over any other doll as a kid because I already felt a connection to them from watching the movie. And I got into collecting Monster High and Ever After High dolls because of the webisodes. And I see with this generation too - is it any wonder Elsa and Anna dolls are so popular? My niece's absolute favourite doll was New York Barbie, because she'd seen the movie. I know there are tv shows and movies for MGA and Mattel dolls already, but I believe they should step up their quality in the world building and character department and not focus so much on expensive animation.
Like the old EAH webisodes were SO cheaply animated. But it didn't matter, because Ever After High's writing was so good. I tried to watch Rainbow High's and LOL surprises media but despite them being gorgeously animated I just lost interest. The characters didn't feel that distinct to me, or real.
I remember watching the scaris movie as a kid and being obsessed with Rochelle, around my birthday i gave my nan a very detailed description of what she looked like and what was in her box. She ended up getting a different Rochelle but still. And Dracula was my favorite character as a kid, so i had like 4 different dolls of her. I also watched eah as a kid but i had no idea they even had a doll line, i thought it was just a cool show. Had i known there would be like 20 of them in my basement rn
I didn't know about Monster High, but around the time the dolls were first released, my mom took me and my sister with her to walmart and she told us that we could pick one doll out, but only one and as I was looking, I seen the gloom beach Frankie and grabbed it and showed my mom thinking how cool she looked and then my sister saw and went over and grabbed the dawn of the dance frankie. That's what got me into monster high.

I'm not a collector and I probably never will be. As a kid I always wanted monster high and ever after high dolls but when they were at their peak, my mother considered them too expensive for me since I was about 6 or 7 years old, and now that I've got the money to buy them, the quality and the style has gotten so low I refuse to pay the price to have them shipped to my country since they aren't already here. It's disappointing that my six year old sister will never be able to experience playing with a fully articulated doll ( my best friend had one)
I can assure you as both a G1 and G3 collector for MH, that G1 has way less quality. First of all they have a lot of wonk, the body itself is quite fragile and then there's the glue seepage problem as a whole that ruined so many dolls.
The clothes are often cheap mini dresses or a variant of that.
Not saying I don't love them, but I think they're pretty overhyped because of nostalgia sadly enough... So you're not really missing out on anything 😅
Now about articulated dolls, LOL OMG, RH, Hairdorables Hairmazing (if you can still get them as they're discontinued), MH G3, Barbie Extra etc. Are all amazingly articulated and currently available to buy!
@@myra0224 I'll check some of them out but one of my main problems with monster high, specifically in my country (South Africa) is that we can't get it. Most of our shops don't retail them and ordering the dolls from overseas sucks because of transport tariffs. Also, I genuinely don't really like any of the new monster high designs (except maybe Draculaura) so I don't feel compelled to buy them. And the point I made about quality is pretty moot since I've never had a g3 monster high doll so I can't comment on the quality of the doll itself (I've heard good things though) . In general though, doll quality has declined IMO. I haven't seen a Barbie doll with articulation in the limbs in years and the LOL suprise dolls are too small to actually do anything other than be decorative pieces

For LOL OMG, they're the same size as most dolls I think? Their arms are fully articulated and the legs are bend and snap ones. The LOL TWEENS are small though but they're so adorable XD

You say you were unhinged but it just felt like a Clawdeena live. So entertaining! So glad you got your channel back. I honestly was freaking out too I make PowerPoints and stuff about doll history and the doll industry and use your videos as reference. Honestly knowing Mattel and Hasbro laid a lot of people off scares me since I want to go into the industry. I really hope even though the toy industry may be in a recession they take risks especially Mattel. If they want to compete with MGA they HAVE TO TAKE RISKS! I honestly had no idea that "kidults" had a bit of say in what sells. Though I started collecting during the Pandemic I don't plan on stopping even though I am running out of space 😭💔 as long as there is quality for a decent price and good story behind the lines I'll buy. Tbh story is just as important as quality to me. I guess G1 monster high spoiled me and made me the way I am.
Hoping all the dolls are innovative and interesting. So glad companies are recognizing the adults. Super excited for the Barbie movie even more after the tea.

In the UK it is really expensive to collect these dolls, and sales are not so common. I look at US pricing and sales at Walmart and Target and feel jealous and nonplussed when US based folks complain about prices. Still I have managed to collect all the RH, SH, PCH, and JH dolls, apart from the ball ones that were not released here. I sporadically collect MH, Disney and other dolls but overall my wallet is feeling the strain, especially as I also collect Anime figures such as Nendoroids (which may dolls look cheap).
But my over-riding concern is keep up the quality and I will pay! That is why I started collecting dolls - RH Cheer hooked me with their price/quality and now 1000 dolls later I am still here.
This is good for people starting their own unique doll lines :) I’m happy about it, push doll makers to be seen on Instagram and keep selling! Don’t give up!
I really hope more and more companies adopt that quality over profit mentality.. I would love if I could collect barbies in the future in the same way I collect rainbow high now. (Also I loved the energy of this video lol, it felt a lot more loose and realistic(?)!!)
I looked through Amazon and Walmarts’ toy holiday catalogs when they came to my parents’ house last holiday season and was really disappointed. Almost every toy was connected to an iPad or other tablet somehow. I also miss the variety from when I was a kid. My favorite thing to do when my mom and I went to the store was to look at the dolls (and there were a lot more stores back then, too). There was a lot more creative play encouraged with dolls, too (though there was A LOT of heavy gendering at that time). Many of the dolls I grew up with could wear each other’s clothes, which is more sustainable. My Liv Doll, Barbies, and Only Hearts Club dolls shared quite a few of their outfits. There’s also an amazing local toy store that just opened in my town last year. They sell open ended toys from lesser known brands. I’ve seen several lesser known doll brands there I’d love to collect (I’m more interested in baby dolls and 18 inch dolls nowadays). There also used to be a lot more local and smaller company toy stores, too. I really miss them. I really miss the Toys R Us and two local toys stores I visited as a kid.

I think it shows that collectors are fatigued that the newest monster high collector dolls are still for sale a month later - masquerade Frankie and Cleo/Deuce - when before they sold out in minutes. Plus I’m not sure if they’re releasing any more Skullectors

I think mga is doing great but I would love to see a rethought bratz line using original sculpts. Story line based off 5 characters going to fashion school in nyc. I think shifting the focus to new characters could really shake things up. Instead of the OG core four we love and cherish make a new core 5 Felicia, Roxy, fianna, kumi and katia. Makes the style very now and focus on what is popular in pop culture. The youth is on tik tok now so young girls and boys are looking up to famale influencer fashion girls a lot. There’s a big explosion of personal style going on RN and the clean girl/ alternative combination is the aesthetic on trend rn
Creativity can also play a factor, some of these companies simply may not have the creative bandwidth to come up with new and innovative dolls
As i grew older i just found that i gravitate more towards MGA dolls when i was allways a huge mattel doll fan. Its just the quality for the price just isn't there with mattel and as a collector with limited budget i appreciate MGA's dolls over mattel because they're overall better bang for your buck

"Kidult"s may also have children or younger family members that they share products with. Seriously, why are these companies not acknowledging this. Digital products have been captivating younger and younger audiences consistently each year as more advance tech releases. The profit margin for children as target audience is getting narrower each year, lets get for real.
I remember going in TRU back in the 90's and seeing a wall of cool Barbie clothes. I'm just not crazy about LOL surprise. I want fashion dolls I can buy trendy clothes for.
I feel like if companies just stopped making the tiny plastic accessories that end up getting lost or thrown away, and focused that money on actual clothes or more details for the doll, it would change the game. I don’t need a tiny factory painted dog to go with the doll, give me an extra pair of shoes or a skirt.

Its funny, right before this video dropped, I was just talking to my DH about how I feel a dry spell coming. I want to be wrong but I feel like leaks in general I've been sparse.... And I have a sneaky suspicion that OMGs are coming to an end. And I am a huge fan of those dolls and I'm hoping I'm wrong but... They've definitely slowed down.

Overall, it's better to go with quality over quantity as well as creativity. So long as Mattel and MGA and any toy companies keep that in mind, we'll buy the dolls.

Rainbow High dolls are actually very expensive in New Zealand, normal dolls are priced at 75NZD which feels like a lot but the dolls really are amazing quality. Monster high G1 used to sell for 40NZD for a basic doll, 20NZD for the economy dolls, the G3 sells for 45NZD for their basic. I wish RH was a little cheaper tbh, I'm happy with MH prices tho.

I fell like the industry is really missing the boat on accessories. Especially rh. I want furniture, I want accessories. Which was why I was disappointed that the new shadow high line had accessories... but they were all the same. Rainbow high could make a killing with selling store furniture like clothing racks, display stands, and even just hanger packs.

I think this video was hilarious (love the fit too its very sailor moon). I just turned 25 myself and Im noticing a skyrocket in nostalgic things popping up from childhood from songs in commercials to references on toys or viral videos. It's really only going to get more prevealent as I get older. Might as well embrace the nostalgia train while theyre serving people my age?
I also think the market is a little too big to predict. I grew up collecting pokemon things never thinking it was considered childish or even in the toy realm despite it being just that. I think a lot of nostalgic buyers dont even realize that theyre in a place of looking back on the past.

Quality is my top priority when it comes to dolls. It's why I was and still am SO upset about the newest wave of Rainbow High Dolls. I'm not exaggerating, every.single.doll of the new line except ONE in my local stores were DAMAGED. Legit, all the Aidens had horrible poofy hair, and all the other dolls had paint damage and smears on their faces. One was so bad, girl looked like she had a bad break up, her left eye's entire eyeliner job was smudged and running down her face. I've yet to find one WITHOUT an obvious flaw on their faces. Are they that bad in ya'lls areas too? Because I'm afraid I'll NEVER find any good quality controlled ones of the new line at this rate TT_TT
Same!! Sooo many dolls when I go hunting from store to store are just not the high quality of makeups as they used to 😢 I find myself intensely staring into every doll box to make sure I get a semi-decent doll nowadays…
bruhh i havent seen the new rainbow high dolls but from ur words alone i feel like they are very very bad like you explaining the eyeliner alone makes me want to laugh my lungs out like wtf happened to you miss girl (aka the doll) did somebody like shatter your heart or something its fine if it happens on the show but as in doll form im more than just willing to wipe that nasty crapy makeup off you and redo it my self.
Yikes I know that they had quality control issues (my Mara had half her eyelashes [I just cut the other side to match it isn’t the best but I like the messy still wearing last nights makeup look] her ends were a mess [easy fix just wash and cut] and I had to oil one of her knees to get it moving) but that sounds like a mess
I would MUCH rather have higher quality dolls with fewer overall waves than a ton of waves with lower quality dolls. MH g3 is so hit-or-miss on quality control and its seriously frustrating. It also sucks to see the amazing detailing on Rainbow/Shadow High dolls versus MH. Not to mention the total lack of Creeproduction accessibility/availability.
Yay you got your channel back! I think within the next year Mattel will bring back Ever after High, I only think this because it’s their 10 year anniversary and when monster high announced a come back it was their 10th anniversary so I think they will do it in bringing back Ever After High! It’s what toy companies do to get after each other and with MH and EAH together again we can maybe get the lost movie 💜❤️
