I know I’m a tad late to the Barbie convo…but this video really is a labor of love that couldn’t be rushed and undoubtedly the most heart and thought I’ve put into making a video 💕 7 different costume changes, 11 parts, and countless hours of research. I filmed and edited every second this video entirely by myself and I really hope you all love it as much as I enjoyed creating it for you!
Thank you so much for your hard work. :D
Slay 👑👑👑👑 girl iam proud of you and your video
The quality of this video is absolutely stunning! So impressive!!
And it shows ❤ this is the best interpretation I have watched yet, and believe me I’ve watched a LOT im obsessed with the movie and the impact it’s made. You did amazing.
AMAZING!!!!!
As someone with a natural double D cup, it pisses me off when people say her boobs were unrealistic or made her look inappropriate.
Hey, we exist! And we are not a sex object, or attempting to seduce anyone just because it's hard to find bras that fit us
me too barbie literally helped me cope with the fact I was sprouting boobs at 9 like not even as skipped that straight to bs people sexualize boobs too much.
Or they never met a full Italian girly before, and I feel you on finding a good bra.
/exactly
skinny girl here and I'm also tired of hearing that and that skinny wasn't realistic lol
@@brandiakers1242 absolutely! It's the same issue
i've seen the barbie movie three times and to me, it's not really about Feminism... it's about humanity and what it means to be human. barbie & ken go through the same character arcs in different ways-- they're both learning who they are beyond what the world has decided they are and, as is normal, they're reacting in vastly different directions. it's ultimately about the human experience, not feminism.
I completely agree! I say something akin to this to basically everyone I've talked to the movie about lol
It’s still very much focused on the issues women face in society though and how hard being a woman can be, which is the feminist part. So yes it’s about the human experience, but it’s about feminism as well.
I'm gonna throw it out there and say that it's neither about human experience or feminism. It's about the experience of women and being female. The entire joke the whole movie was that Ken is the accessory to Barbie. Barbie World is completely the opposite of the real world yet exactly the same way reality is built around men with women often treated like the "accessory". Ken's story arc was never important but was needed to build Barbie's. The Ken's never faced any real conflict beyond the "oppression" of being Barbie's accessories (case-in-point: the entire movie). Simply existing as a woman, both the good and the struggles, doesn't automatically equate to feminism. There isn't really a lot of advocacy or gender equality- kind of the exact opposite, which is the again, the point of the whole movie. That's why I also think with the end of the movie, Barbie stayed in the real world because she realized that not only is she staying human, but became a "real" woman because she discovered how much she felt like a " " real " " woman even in a world built entirely around men vs Barbie World's dynamic. So the movie is just about women. A movie about women using men to make the point of how it feels and what it's like to be women.
@@keekermojo I absolutely love your take, I can totally see this perspective as well. This is what I find so fascinating about the Barbie movie, regardless of an individual's takeaway it can create such a fun sense of discourse and conversation in a way that feels more like a book club than a battle.
This! Is also about what means to feel to be human, understand how social groups work, etc. At the end, she decides humanity is worth it
I still don't get the people who think they need to shield children from "mature" topics like puberty or pregnancy. Especially the latter. Plenty of kids see their mothers be pregnant with their siblings, and the existance of older siblings proves that it is possible to explain pregnancy to children without explaining sex. When my mom was pregnant with my sister when I was three, all I knew was that there was a baby in her stomach, no one told me how it got there or anything, and I never cared. Also plenty of children see their older siblings grow up and go through puberty. They see their older sisters grow curves, and it's just normal, why do people treat it as something improper that must be hidden from children? There is nothing inherently mature about it.
Well said & agreed, it seems a tad odd to keep information about our human bodies that we're bound to be exposed to.
I’m not sure it’s so much shielding than it’s not encouraging it. Children who see their pregnant moms might have a neutral opinion of pregnancy, but things like dolls that represent a pregnant woman might make them have a positive opinion as in “I’d like to be pregnant too”. I feel it’s a stretch, but it’s one interpretation, I think
Very insightful! I was an only child but I guess that makes sense
I was totally saying something along those lines to a friend earlier this evening. But also included the fact that people aren't children for very long at all so it seems at least counterintuitive to fill their heads with lies about Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny and the tooth fairy blah blah and make natural things seem shameful. It's just ridiculous
It was said the pregnancy baby thing wasn’t an issue it’s the fact they thought midge was 16 or a bit older but in a re adapted version of the doll has her husband and son in the background to show she’s a married women and is of an “appropriate age”
I wish mattel could have kept Barbie pink and glam while also making her more inclusive. There's nothing wrong with being hyper feminine, that shouldn't take away from the fact Barbie was always meant to be a role model. She had over 200 different professions and all people could focus on was her appearance. Barbie just doesn't feel like barbie anymore.
Ikr it's like the exact same thing that happened with Victoria's Secret, they gave an inclusive show but with trash designs as if they can't have both
I’ll never get over how I didn’t get the pregnant midge doll as a kid, I wanted her so bad..
Also it’s so annoying how conservatives claimed she was a single mom and how that was such an awful thing, but also like midge got married to Allan forever ago and if they did any amount of research they would know that ugh
There was even a family photo on the front box 🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️
Like…it would have taken the literal SMALLEST amount of research. 🤦🏻♂️
Yes and Ken and Barbie were also married and there was a Happy Family set with them and two toddlers, a boy and a girl. I owned that as a kid. Because Ken was created to be Barbie's boyfriend. And Alan and Midge were created to be their best friends and also a couple.
Kids are stupid..... I am pretty sure you were the precocious, baby genius.... the whole thing with the Baby inside the belly is weird for a kid toy.... Also when MTV's 16 and Pregnant Show became a hit.... There was a surge in dummies getting pregnant hoping to get on the show....
Conservatives don’t do research lol
As a Barbie collector since 1966 you did a great Job on your video!
This makes my heart so happy to hear! Thank you so much for watching!
That’s actually so awesome, if you don’t mind me asking, how many Barbie’s do you have?
I have a 1966 Barbie from my mom :)
She has pretty blonde bleach hair , blue eyes , she was made in 66
And she came with a wedding outfit :)
@@HaruUraHH20 that is so cool! would you ever be up for posting a video of it on your channel? it would make my lil barbie heart so happy-
@@aztec_anna well I worry that if I post on UA-cam it will affect my future but I can make it my pfp tommorow
All my body image issues came from society, not Barbie. Clean eating culture, patriarchy, workout culture, super models, etc. Barbies end up reflecting society back at us and instead of critiquing society, people critique Barbie.
I think the movie tried to put in a lot of social commentary and touch on different issues with Barbie and being female, but there was so much crammed in, I can understand why people got confused. There's just too much about being human and society to put in any one single movie.
The reason I stopped buying Barbies was that they didn't have good clothes anymore. What's the point of a fashion doll who has no fashion??? And so many of the playline dolls that have actual clothing items have the most random mismatched clothes. Barbie Fashionistas? That sack is a dress? I love the diversity, but the dolls are so cheaply made, they're not even worth spending money on. Barbie Extra? Fashion is definitely not her passion. :/
Thank god for the Barbie movie dolls. They have actual fashions! Hopefully Mattel learns the right lessons from this.
But I doubt it.
A most of the Barbie collabs are just basic pink colored things with the Barbie logo slapped on. No design or thought went into 80% of these products.
Theyre trying better now with Barbie signature fashion packs but still on the pricey side
The fact bratz and Barbie and monster high never gave me body issues, I gained body issues from the people in my life. All those dolls helped me love myself.
39:06 I will never quite understand this. I always grew up saying that I wanted “to grow up LOOKING like a Stepford housewife, but not BEING a Stepford housewife.” No one should be shamed for being or not being feminine. I can enjoy archery and makeup-we all can-because neither are in opposition of each other and neither are exclusive to a single gender.
Be like Barbie by being who *you* want to be. A doll cannot tell you who or what to be; you tell the doll who and what it is. Children understand this. The adults who are projecting their insecurities onto the dolls are the ones who seem to forget this simple fact.
periodt
1:03:05 growing up I never even dared to ask for a Barbie. I bought the Doll+Popcorn bundle at AMC and it filled me with so much joy! I then hunted down the Ken doll to match. I’m a 23 year old man who finally bought their first Barbie 😭. Growing up gay is hard lol.
My heart! Thank you so much for sharing your story!! 💕💕
Also I like that the Ryan Ken doll doesn't look like Ryan. I think the Ken doll is hella adorable and he looks how I imagine Ken to look. Super shiny energy and bright eyes. He looks like he's starting his first day at the Krusty Krab and just just soooooo excited
i'm glad my parents didn't fall for the tree change, or the anti feminism thing trying to change barbie's signature looks. I got to grow up with barbies before the change and stuck with those, I turned out fine with the hyper-feminism barbies. barbie's dream-house web series was amazing and my parents even loved it too, my dad would always laugh when walking past when i used to watch it.
Even when i had barbies I would still be obsessed with franchises like fnaf! it doesn't affect other hobbies or things i like.
the barbie blogs were pretty nice though, even if I didn't personally watch them, it was nice to hear positive things from it. Though I do think everyone missed her multi jobs, and feminism.
Barbie life in the dreamhouse was great I watched as a 16 year old for the 1st time on Netflix. I was obviously not the target age but they didn’t try to dumb down the humor for kids and I liked that.
@@littlerocker121314 i was probably not the target age when i watched it either, but i'm glad many people enjoyed it like I did! i am very glad everyone shares this interest. I do still try and go back and watch it whenever i just need a laugh before or after the day.
same!!
Fun fact: the voice actor for Barbie in Barbie: Life In The Dreamhouse also voiced Frankie Stein from Monster High
And in the Latin American dub, the voice actress for Frankie also voice Raquelle, she is amazing
Barbie gets blame when shes a barometer of what mainstream media think is worth selling. Shes a contemporary doll who mirrors our current world.
The expecting barbie to solve the world's problems would be like expecting hot wheels to solve climate change
This video had me hooked I didn’t even realize how long it was until I was an hour in
This might genuinely be my all-time favorite video that you've ever produced! The research, the perspectives, the nuances, the history, the jokes!! The looks! Spectacular!
This is an extremely well researched, well organized, and well presented video! This is your first video I've seen and I immediately subscribed; you kept me engaged for the entire hour and a half and your commentary is on point. WONDERFUL content. I've watched a ton of Barbie content lately and this had a lot of fresh material and didn't feel redundant to what I've already watched. Go off!!
You have no idea how happy your comment made me! Thank you so much for watching I really appreciate your support and feedback 💕💕💕
The makeup and fashion, the editing, the jokes and sassy presentation, the research-- Clawdeena you just keep getting better and better with every video. This was so entertaining to watch! ❤ As you said, mother is mothering.
This video was everything . the outfit changes , the structure , the references , the education and entertaining . all on point
It’s actually very hypocrite from Mattel since they’re overworking chinese women and barely paying them.💀
True of the whole toy industry. Same goes for MGA
@@emmaphilo4049
True but "hypocrisy" requires you to espouse high moral standards as well as have low ones in reality. I.e. hypocrisy without the virtue signalling isn't hypocrisy; it's just being authentic in ones evil, which is a little more plalatable.
So does every company
"Doll collectors were largely seen as strange and disturbed adults who need to grow up"
Growing older is mandatory, growing UP is always optional. No point in being grown-up if you can be childish sometimes!
The personality, the attitude, the comedy, the cold hard facts?! This video is dope!!
I Agree that the Barbie Movie doesn't need to address all of the Feminism problems in just one film, as a Barbie fan as long as I can remember Barbie doesn't say how strong she is but she shows it on her actions and still all feminine not that I didn't like the speech about that in the movie but I hope they present it in a not too much self aware lens (more subtle not in your face) . and I hope on the upcoming Barbie films it's more about the fun and magical story just like what she used to do on the animations.
Live Action of Princess and the Pauper or Island Princess would be fantastic! ✨
Congrats on 1 million!!❤❤
“Every girl wants to be Barbie, and every gay wants to be Raquel!” 😂😂😂😂 FACTSSS
My only frustration with the new movie dolls is how much they are up charging the collector dolls overseas. All of them are $100 Australian so it’s difficult to justify the money. The play line ones such as the perfect day dress retails at $55 Australian
Beach ken is like 20$ at my floridan gator land Walmart
I agree, I saw one of the new Barbie movie dolls going for £45 at the Entertainer (toy shop). I didn’t know they could go up to $100 AUD tho. That’s a bit ridiculous 😕
Well, they are collector's items… I know of many dolls and figures that cost more. It's not 5 dollar barbie at Target it is a collectible
seeing the bratz dolls repainted to look like that genuinely pains me
All the effort and skill you put into this video is INCREDIBLE - ilysm and appreciate everything you dooo
Thank you so much! This video is really special so it means so much to hear this!!
Aside from the amazing video essay and kept my earbuds glued to my ears throughout a whole hour of constant work...
I HAD to comment about your fits, girl. They go so unnecessarily hard and I'm all for it.
This was so well put together! I love how u said that Barbie doesn't need to cover every topic and explain everything because that's what I was feeling seeing most of the criticism on the movie. I loved the historical deep dive and how the brand shaped itself and I'm excited to see where it goes from here! You ate this
Thank you, Thank you and Thank you for not just this video but for every video you make. I loved seeing all the dolls i use to have as well as seeing how Barbie went through it throughout the years. My daughters have been watching you for so very long. As i sat there and watched you talk about your love for dolls and also your walk through life. You became part of our family without even knowing it. What you bring to the table is more then reviews and info but a heart full of realness. All 4 of my daughters have collected dolls just like me. Although my collection got lost in a move and the rest in a fire. I was so greatful when my daughters found the same love in dolls and collecting. Now we all collect together and i love that i get to do something like my dad did with me. Although i collected not just dolls but comics and Starwars as well. I thank all that to my amazing dad. He taught me that dolls are just dolls to some people and to others so much more. Although he passed away when he was 55. I tried to raise my kids the same way. Its ok to love who you are and express yourself because not everyone is meant to fit in the same mold. Growing up there werent alot of dolls with different ethnicities. My dad would go out his way to go to different stores and small shops and even fleemarkets to find me dolls that were different and unique. Although i ended up liking Barbies i always wished there were dolls with different ethnicities. Being multiracial there wasnt anything that represented others or me. Yet today there is representation everywhere. Although my dad was still alive to see the Bratz come to life and loved buying my daughter's them. I wish he was still alive to see how much more there is now. He would of loved it, especially Monster High. I just want to say thank you for including everyone and for your beautiful outlook on dolls and the in's and out of the doll world and community. I think my dad would of loved your UA-cam channel. I also think your dad is watching over you and is so proud of you. Keep being exactly who you are both inside and out...Keep being you 😊
Wow, this was such a lovely and thoughtful message that moved me to tears! Thank you so much for sharing your journey it makes me so happy that you share this sacred hobby with your 4 daughters and what an honor for me it is to be a part of it in any way. I'm sorry to hear you lost your collection though it sounds like beautiful catharsis that it's now become a huge family affair! I deeply appreciate your words about our fathers, I'm sending you so much love and gratitude 💕💕 💕
@@Clawdeena9wonderful video about Barbie and her history for girls who think the barber Or just for girls and boys alike and just that’s pretty cool
I’ve been holding off on watching this video and I just wanna thank you for putting all the research in your video(s) because it shows me how much you show interest and love towards the doll community
I have no problem with the $50 price although it's over my personal allowed budget for a single doll. I just would like to see more "playline" Barbie Movie dolls that I can buy.
Super awesome. Fun to watch, well researched, a colorful showy documentary. Great job!
Do you think after the success of the Barbie movie Barbies going to get her quality back? I’m really not big into the low quality Barbies. I also really miss the fantasy based Barbies like mermaids, and princesses and fairies and stuff. I really hope they bring those back too. I am more of a fantasy and sci-fi girl then an average highschooler doll type girl myself.
u should definitely watch the video till the end cus all of this is discussed and she even shows leaks of the new mermaid and princess barbies....
how about u watch the video
I still don't know how I feel about the movie and I don't know how I feel about Barbie anymore. I used to defend her in literally everything but I realized that yes Mattel does make very stupid decisions with her (and sometimes with Ken too) and she's become a very cheap product. I think that Barbie is so messed up now I don't know how to explain it. I grew up with the 2010s ones but my favorite time for Barbie is 1959 until 2006 (excluding the “break up”)
This video basically explains why they had to change her, especially with the views of the time and how they were losing money..... Mattel's income doesn't only come from collectors and children who parents buy them toys are still their major market so they have to appeal to them.
My mom asked to go to the doll section of walmart with me for the first time ever the other day to look for the "weird barbie" doll and I almost started fucking crying. The barbie movie may have absolutely destroyed me as a nonbinary person but it's 100% worth it if my mom will willingly go to the doll section with me without brutally destroying my character for the next two weeks.
I love this video so so much! You can clearly see the effort you put in making it, the research, the editing, and oh the costumes! I hope that even if it’s a long video thousands of people will appreciate it from the very start to the beginning! 💗💗💗
so she never said "math is hard"??? now who's gonna be my fav barbie? i liked the idea that even barbie struggled with math, oh well
She did still say 'math class is tough' so that Barbie still struggles with math haha I meant it more as a satirical joke that Barbie was misquoted, though technically misquoting her conflates the statement because it's abstraction and essentialism which becomes a whole thing....long story short Teen Talk Barbie still finds math tough and so do I!
@@Clawdeena9 omg yayyyy
Love this!!! You gave such a deep and analytical overview of Barbie’s story. And the fact that you brought such great humor to it too! You’re really good at what you do and I hope you know that! 💕
I absolutely loved this video. You did such an amazing job breaking everything down. Also, EVERY outfit you wore was an absolute slay.
The amount of work that went into this video is just astonishing, perfection

this video is amazing, it is everything. love this, love you Clawdeena and love Barbie of course! hehe
Great work! Thoroughly enjoyed the deep dive. 💖
I always saw my dolls as the toys that they were. I never once thought I should or would ever look like my Barbie dolls. I had Barbie dolls of all races. I liked that the clothes were interchangeable between all my Barbies. I imagine so did my parents' wallet. Dressing them up was really the best part. I also had Cabbage Patch Dolls and many types of dolls and other toys such as action figures which were more typical for boys. They were just fun toys nothing deeper. I was playing with them. I also played a number of games in the actual outdoors as a kid in the 80's and 90's.
Tysm for doing this! It was so fun to watch it frame by frame! Your American accent hahahah
Wow this is an impresibly beautiful, well researched, amazingly well written, and organized video. Thank you for such an incredible work

This video was amazing! At the level of contrapoints! Congratulations on all of the work you've done, I hope It pays off!
Wow what a great video. Love your took and always on point with your research. Loved it from beginning to end 🩷
Did we always play that Barbie was perfect? Probably not, playing is therapeutic, there's conflict, sadness, drama, problem-solving, and the list goes on. Basically, you will re-enact real life with your toys as a way to better deal with or process the world around you, so that movie Barbie didn't want to go back to always having the perfect day makes total sense, for me at least. I don't think it will mean that Barbie won't be glamorous any more, 'cause we all want and need those moments in our lives as well.
I love this video. It's informative, glamorous and funny. Keep them video coming❤
Awesome video! Loved this 💕
Can we talk how about the delivery on how you gave this videos is top tier

I have to say, I didn't know how long the video was going to be when I sat down to watch it, but soon it became clear that that didn't matter because you were actually very insightful and the video is riveting... I couldn't even make myself pulls it so I can go pee lol. I sent a link to a friend about 15 minutes into watching it so he was right behind me saying "oh my God this is awesome" . Thank you, this is a great video
