Lol that introduction no wounder why dinosaur went extinct lol 😱👌💪🐺🐾😉review the footage I saw two bullets drop in long grass next to table on right
Heck Yeah!!! Any Video of yours is entertaining and i can sit down after work or honestly whenever and enjoy a laugh and watch some kickass gun's with kickass scott and the damn t-rex
Tactical t-rex is back!!!
Get a mallet and knock the stubborn cuss out there lol 💕💪🐺🐾👌🔫

I'm a 71 y/o woman who loves shooting my BFR 4570. I also love my Springfield 1873 "Trap door" carbine.
For a round that was brought out in 1873, the .45-70 cartridge has only improved over the intervening decades, as proved by how it performs next to modern ammo designs.
The secret to handling a BFR is to have a high, tight, 2-handed grip, with the hammer spur digging into the thumb web. That puts the recoil (very strong push, really) straight back into the plane of the arm, and makes the revolver easy to control. The grip also allows fast cocking with the weak hand thumb.
45-70 for the hoods......45-70 for the woods....
45-70" Ah ! That's a roger ; Yah !

I’m onto you Scott, I know that’s you in the dinosaur costume. My buddy told me dinosaurs went extinct like a thousand years ago.
Your buddy is a liar! Lol
The chronograph adds to the whole thing Scott. It gives a better understanding of what the rounds are really doing and how much bullet weight and type effect velocity. And I love these hand-cannon vids! I'd really like to see you do one featuring the Magnum Research BFR in .444 Marlin - a hugely capable and vastly under-appreciated round.
Like the Chrono! Go .45-70, worlds most powerful handgun cartridge.
Definitely like the chronograph, with that information along with the bullet weight helps you to figure out the energy in foot pounds. Keep using the chronograph.
Thanks for this, was trying to decide on what to go with for a BFR and this nailed down 4570. Your videos are also great for research for setting damage values for guns in games.
Just got a Marlin 1895 Dark Series (chambered in 45/70) this week. Shot it today for the first time ... awesome gun!!! I know I'm commenting on an older video ... but it would be cool to see you showcase the Marlin Dark on a video.
I really like the chronograph information being included in the video. It’s always nice to know how fast those things are moving
My mood always improves when a new Kentucky Ballistics video awaits me
The 45 70 is an amazing cartridge!!
The Best 👍🏼🤠
.950 JDJ
@dg Wiley 45-70 has more powder capacity there for more muscle .
@@paulchandler9646 yup
Great video, as a owner of a 450 marlin I’d love to see the same test again with the same projectiles as the 45-70 for a much better comparison
Even better if they are shot through rifles - like the Big Horn Model 89, and the Marlin 336! I imagine the 450 would behave very similarly to the 500!
Having the chronograph readings dispels any myths and misconceptions we may have and puts things in perspective I think it's an important part of what you're doing
man T-Rex ist so freaking hilarious 😂😂😂
Lol thanks
And appropriate because these rounds would be good for hunting Tyrannosaurs.
The chrono is a definite *GO!*
Love seeing how fast those bullets fly.
I think it would have been a better comparison if it had been the .460 S&W Magnum instead of the .500, especially if comparable bullet weights could be found relatively easily.
Still, all in all, a good video.
The chronograph is great. Weight and velocity. Real comparisons is great! Thanks bro.
Chrono is always a nice touch, shows you the real world velocity of the ammo your testing.
“I want a popsicle, it is hot” idk why but I could feel the weather when you said that lol
I love the 45-70, it is truly awesome, one of the best preforming versatile cartridges ever made, america baby!!!
Always good to know the speed! Thanks!
450 Malin is a beast but sadly never caught on and can be loaded ballistics wise close to the 458 win mag,the brass is thicker than 4570 so it can handle hotter loads, but for as old as the 4570 is it is still by far and awesome cartridge ,great vid scott
The 45-70 isn't to far behind and some people do load it very hot. In guns like No1 or 3's. Brass life is very short though and I don't remember the cases or load data.
I love your videos, and as a ballistics/reloading enthusiast/consumer, I think the chronograph adds very valuable information that people like myself can't get enough of.
I don't know about other people but I watch these videos to learn about the ballistic capabilities of all different kinds of rounds and I think the chrono provides really good information
Watching these older vids with the boards, blocks, jugs, plate etc really makes me appreciate that Scott was able to get the arrangement with the gel vendor.
Chrono was a plus, keep it.
Id actually like to see the recoil of big calibers in slow-mo too. Something to consider. Great work as always.
Absolutely *LOVE* the addition of the chronograph!!!! So much better depiction of the energy these weapons output! Also, beautiful camera work, amazingly clear video resolution and *GREAT* job doing your best to use comparable bullet type and weights for a TRUE comparison of the calibers. Best overall video quality you've produced to date....your work and attention to detail really shows and I (for one) notice and appreciate it brother! 👍👍👍 I would suggest that you consider lining BOTH sides of your table with some metal or thick wood to possibly trap rounds whose trajectories veer. 😉🙏
P.S. You're a hell of a shot with these big bore beasts!!
Thanks so much! 😃😃😃
@@KentuckyBallistics your past self helped me . I was wondering that exact thing.
Those 45-70 gov are great good vid my man 💪
Man I gotta give it to you. I know guys that shit their pants when i ask them to shoot my 454 Casull. And you're all smiles shooting these cannons. As always, great video sir.
Chronograph is a nice touch once in a while.
Scott is so calm and mellow in these older vids!
Regarding velocities: Data is ALWAYS welcome. I think you've made it visually clear that ANY of these rounds would be effective bear rounds.
Great test, thanks! Good to know the speed.
Awesome video! Being about to see how fast the bullets are traveling is awesome. Great idea. I’ve been watching your videos for a long time and they just keep getting better. Keep up the good work. Very entertaining and educational.
Thank you!
your intros are hands down better than demolition ranch thanks for the laugh!
SHOTS FIRED! LOL
hey now I ain't knocken this man's vids they 💯, but better than demo ranch.... ehhh I think not..
I'm with fish n hunt. Great content for both, demo ranch has the intros though.
Bubba2001 if t-rex ended up meandering onto one of matts videos though...lol
Adding the chronograph was a good idea. My only advice is to stop messing with the T-Rex! 😁
2A Enthusiast I keep telling everyone that’s not a T-Rex. It’s clearly some sort of dinosaur probably related to that damn rooster. Notice how it has five fingers on it’s front paws/talons.
I like the chronograph and the information about the bullets and cartridges. Thank you and keep up the good work.
Nice video Scott. I like the big bores and the chronograph. You don’t need to do a lot of shots through it, but it gives us good info on what velocities the different rounds are pushing.
I bought the BFR in .450 Marlin, but had the 45-70 cyclinder fitted, because 45-70 is cheaper to reload than the Marlin. Love that you did these 3.
Only thing cheaper about the 4570 is brasd. They are the ballistic twins when loading accordingly. Same bullet, primers when hot loaded.
Well done. Couple suggestions i have is to use a Sharpie marker to mark the spaces on your box with numbers to save you from having to count them everytime. You can also circle and mark holes of different loads calibers for easier reference. Keep a rubber mallet and a piece of wood handy for persuading a stuck board. Keep doing a great job and safety first.
Thanks 😁
Thanks for the video. The chronograph is great. The velocity along with bullet weight is good info. Surprised by how powerful the 45-70 is.
It’s all good chrono a plus. Nicely done
I think using the chronograph is awesome! That not only shows the destruction of the bullet, but how fast it’s going. For people in the market for a big gun it’s some really good information!!
Just proves once again... there is no need for the newest game-changing caliber.
100+ years ago, .45 was on top, and it is still hangin in there.
Wtf bro?!? No tyranosaurus booty shake?
Well, he's also using a 500 grain in the s&w and 430 grain in the others. 70 grains is a big difference. Also, Speed penetrates.
The FuzzyMonkey
I reload my .500 S&W with Cast Performance 370gr. WFNGC Heat Treated Solids. At a distance of 50’ it penetrated & exited the 16” trunk of a Mesquite Tree. The bullet entered the hill approximately 14’ behind the tree, and we dug it up nearly 9’ back. The bullet cracked 2 rocks, and we found it in the 3rd rock, also cracked.
After that, it became my GoTo Bear/Hog gun!
In his defense, at least the Tactical T-Rex knows to stay away on Full Auto Friday’s LOL
It’s always a good day when you break out the Big Bore revolvers.......especially the 45-70! Thanks for another great video Scott. Oh yeah, I like the chronograph being brought out in some videos, but you may want to keep it a little further from exploding water jugs next time 😉
Lol! Noted.
Good stuff. Nothing like an armed and angry TRex popping out of a dumpster.
If you were to do this again, you could pull bullets from the .45-70, and load them in .450 Marlin. It is the same bore size. That would let you compare the same bullet type, albeit handloads vs factory.
Chronograph makes comparisons easy, enlightening. There is no substitute for cubic inch displacement in firearms and hotrods!
Love the chronograph, it is cool knowing how fast the bullets are moving, keep using it and keep blowing stuff up...
R.I.P. your hands
$23,000 in medical bills because of multiple broken wrist incidents...
That 45-70! Soo much power 😱
Love the chronograph, it would be cool if you could put the energy foot pounds in the description of the rounds too to help the perspective of power of the rounds.
www.ballistics101.com/muzzle_energy_calc.php
Yes I know of another calculator site haha, I just felt too lazy to look up each individual bullet energy in this video since there were so many
Thank you.....this was very helpful as I am debating whether to purchase a 45-70 or 450 Marlin lever action takedown rifle. The speeds and impact results gave me a lot of insight.
Great Intro Scott 👍
The intros were just as funny 4 years ago 😂 Good to know Scott has had a good sense of humor for years now
Chrony is brilliant! I ran each round as told us through an energy calculator. Was interesting to note the 45-70 and 450 Marlin beat the "most powerful production revolver in the world" 500S&W consistently for muzzle energy.
The 45-70 and 450 beat the 500 S&W Magnum! Wow... that’s a shocker. How in the world can two rifle cartridges beat out a handgun cartridge. It just doesn’t seem possible. Next, let’s see if the 45-70 and 450 can beat out the 300 Win Mag. That’s anybody’s guess who would win that one.
@@jimmiekaelin4804 The 500 magnum was up there with the rifle cartridge energies. The most powerful 500 magnum shot was aroun 2550 ft lbs while the weakest 45-70/450 marlin cartridges were around 2200 ft lbs.
500 magnum is no joke and is more powerful than most rifle calibers, including factory .45-70 and most .450 marlin ammo.
Rifle big bores are always more powerful than big bore revolvers.
@@samuellloyd6582 I didn't say they were in a rifle. I'm talking about all the cartridges mentioned in revolvers being compared.
@@jimmiekaelin4804 I'm talking about all cartridges out of revolvers. The video is about revolvers.
Stumbled across your videos. Awesome content, rocking calibers w/7's. 357 Sig and 45-70 in my arsenal, you've helped justify their potential.
Thanks!
I Do like the extra information that the chronograph offers. And...my "Hunt'n buddy" has a Henry in 45-70... which I have shot...I can not Imagine shooting a revolver in this caliber...yikes!
Back in 03 I shot a 450 Marlin pistol.it was the only pistol I ever shot the ripped my shooting glove.it was a new glove and had no muzzle brake
I have a Marlin 40/70 SS got it back in the late seventy's, way to much round for a pistol, great gun when Marlin made them!
Thank you for the fine comparisons and an excellent presentation..
Very nice video with the big bore revolvers, gorgeous day in Kentucky, but what got me was your T-Rex neighbour, ducking from the .500 Mag and coming back with a shotgun of his own. I had to subscribe after that.
Greetings from Italy!
Man he was so calm in these older videos. From his attitude to laugh to voice lol
You're the more badass reincarnation of demolition ranch (especially the intros are hilarious)
I AGREE 100%
@Krispy B WHO ARE THE FUCK ARE YOU? NO ONE I DO NOT YOUR NOT COOL FUCKING TRASH TALKER
I said somthing similar
@@zacsampson9447 maybe but I said it first which might be the reason for me being pinned
Are you insane I like demo ranch but that reaction
The chronograph tells you if you got what you paid for, so it is very nice to have.
The chronograph idea was awesome!!
It was cool knowing how fast the bullets are going
Thanks Scott - great calibers for comparison. I do like hearing the velocity readings from the chrony.
Speed has a lot to tell us about the rounds I like having that in there. Keep on with improvements. You are great.
All 3 are close in power. But I'd take the 500 Magnum anyday.
500 Magnum is usually more powerful in a revolver than the 45-70.
45-70 needs a longer barrel life on a rifle to reach its full potential for velocity.
The 500 handles the extra power better too. But "Cowboy Load" 45-70 is cheaper and easier to find than 500 Special or other downloaded 500 Mag.
You brimg up a great question in my mind. I wonder if the 45-70 could be hand loaded using a powder that would be better served in the shorter barrel of the pistol for better performance.
That would be a tricky one. If you go with a faster burning powder your chamber pressure would also rise substantially. The case of the 45-70 is not as strong as the .500. You may get overpressure signs before you reach the velocities achieved with the rifle powders. Seems like someone would have tried it before though.
I’d disagree, both offer very similar ballistics, but the 45/70 has over a 100 diferent ammo types and is avaible at all of my local gun stores. The .500 magnum is rarely available unless I order online and usually can only find a couple diferent types.
The 45-70 is designed to use black powder so the faster burning powders typically are not a issue.
All three of those cartridges would get the job done on any dangerous game. That 450 Marlin has a whalup. Very nice.
damm you got wrists of steel!
The dino , wearing a giant sombrero , two bandoliers of ammo across his chest ! and wielding both those GIANT REVOLVERS in his t tex hands ! That would be a cool kentucky ballistics t-shirt !!!
love the chrono. can you test the 10mm extreme penetrstors and some other 10mm in the chrono? thx
Lotta time in setup there.. great job, thanks for the sacrifice sir! Loved the video.
I like the pine board test because it's something I can understand.
Have you ever tried using plywood, MDF, or ? Since wood is an orthotropic material, you'll always have inconsistencies compounded because of the boards material properties. To lessen those inconsistencies, you could move to an engineered wood property. That would also include in your audience scientist studying hardness of their materials. As an example, the Army conducts hardness test for ballistic protection in building materials. They found dimensional lumber is unreliable in that one projectile might pass right through when another exact projectile would be stopped. FEMA did impact test for hurricanes and houses. One of those test led me to believe I would never live in a house with OSB sheathing. I would like to see you shoot through typical sheathing materials just to see how poorly our homes hold up to bullets, I think it would also be cheaper for you to saw up some plywood than the pine boards and you would lessen the stray bullets. I think to only downside is burning it after you're done shooting it. But I think a open bottomed burn barrel would incinerate it pretty good. Regardless, I love the stuff you do - and I would have never known about the .450 Marlin......

9:01 I see you've been taking notes from Edwin Sarkissian
James Paulaski he obviously learned that from edwin!😂😅
Ha ha!
Chronograph actually adds good statistical data! Keep up the great work👍👍 Thanks for the vid Scott.
Great video, fun and structured. I know the bullets were not always apples to apples but I think the 450 Maryland edged the 500 magnum in the 4570
Huh
Like shooting through different mediums and knowing the speed of the bullets and weight. It is what it is. That way a person knows instead of guessing what to buy or use. Not to mention I wish I was there actually doing it.
When doing comparative tests of different calibers like this it would be good to include the kinetic energy of each round in the video so that it's more apples-apples information for the viewer (we can work it out ourselves, but still). Also some info on the powder weight behind each projectile along with the KE would be interesting to know so that we can tell which round is "better" or "more efficient" at smashing each target or penetrating more objects.
I fired a TC Contender in .45-70...won't do it again! I'll stick with my Marlin 1895 for that caliber thank you very much!!
Please continue using the chronograph as it gives us valuable information.
Better than Demolition Ranch
Wow. The difference in energy compared to today's videos is astounding
I look for speed and tests crono like to know what I'm watching , like this one
Dude, your making Dirty Harry's gun look like a little 22LR with those cannons!
Ya that 45-70 is a devastating round. Only round I trust in bear country(I also carry a .357 magnum just Incase I run out of ammo).
Drexxler 1 with what do you shoot it ?
These are the best videos comparing it to the new vithose.
Nice just got me a marlin 45-70 sbl
That's why T-Rex was the mightiest of hunters.
I vote for the chronograph
