I hope your channel blows up sir. You deserve it, watched your Taurus snubby 44. Mag review and now this one. You know your game, and have great concise information. Keep it up 🎉subbed
Thank you for the video! I just bought this exact model of the 500 magnum Mancannon! I have previously owned the 10.5 inch Performance Center 500. Currently I only own the 4 inch. I was going to purchase this a while back but talked myself out of it because I’m a 460 magnum lover. I have watched enough videos lately especially with one of my favorite UA-camrs Kentucky Ballistics and his videos helped retalk me into wanting this 500 just because it looks great with my 5 inch 460! Thank you again Steve for the video and keep this channel going, I really enjoy this content!
I appreciate your watching. Yes Kentucky Ballistics is great, Scott is very entertaining. Love the videos. I went back and forth trying to decide on the 460 5" Vs 500 4" and ended up with the 460 first. After getting the 460, I was an X-Frame fan and bought this 500 Magnum as well. There's just something about these Big Bore Magnums...
@@kevanhubbard9673 thanks for watching. They sure are. There is a prolific breading pair in there. They follow me whenever I am in the studio. Quite inquisitive.
Great video. I want to get the same 500 you have in the video but never shot one. Closest thing I’ve shot (if you can say close) is my model 69 44 mag snub nose. Any idea how the recoil differs?
Holy cow! I haven't gotten through the video yet but you made shooting that handcannon look easy at the start. 50 rounds of .44 Mag in a Model 29 is PLENTY for me in one sitting - I couldn't imagine 60 rounds of .500 Mag! Just a guess, but I wonder if the very small gap between the cylinder and forcing cone is to minimize flame cutting and blast from the sides of the frame. Going to finish up now, but will say too that I like your presentation style!
Thanks for watching. The model 29 is one of my favorites, its a great gun. You don't hear about flame cutting much these days because the tolerances are so much tighter. Not having the correct gap could cause issues. There is still quite a bit of energy coming out the gap, even with the tight gap. It could take your finger off if you put it in front of the gap. 500 recoil is different its a lot more push and not the flip type recoil of the 29. What barrel length do you have on your 29?
@@BigBoreGuns Those are great points! I'm fairly inexperienced when it comes to revolvers. I only have that Model 29 (I took a look, it's a 6.5" 29-2) that was used by a great-uncle who enjoyed handgun hunting and a Colt Commando that my great-grandfather bought as surplus to use as a patrolman. You know, it is funny to think how certain guns behave to give you different kinds of felt recoil that might be unexpected. Just comparing their cylinder gaps to that of your S&W500 was what led me to that thought since obviously the .500 Mag is massively powerful, especially compared to .38 Special, so even with the small gap I imagine it's a ton of energy. Great video and discussion of the ammo too! I subscribed!
@@spartansfan1026 What a great story behind that 44. Thats one of the things I appreciate about firearms like that, they last and help revive memories of family history.
Hello sir, please could you possibly make a video solely dedicated to the comparison of the 500 4” and the 460v 5”? I never saw a good review of them both side by side
Thats a great idea. I will get one put together. Personally, for me it's a matter of what your using the gun for. If you're looking for versatility, the 460 Mag is hard to beat. If I am hunting, the 460 is my choice and the first one I purchased. However after getting the 460 I still really wanted a 500Mag. I like the shorter barrel and there is something special about shooting the 50Cal that is unexplainable. Although the barrel is only 1 inch shorter, for me its much more comfortable to carry as well. Thanks for taking the time to comment.,
@ such a helpfull reply, makes the decision between the two even harder tho, both are extraordinary firearms . I also would like to thank you for finding time to reply to your viewers. Best wishes from Czech Republic.
No problems at all. I actually enjoy the recoil from these big bore guns. I find some smaller magnums unpleasant because the recoil is different and the way some are designed causes them to beat up your fingers with the trigger guards.
Fun video. Thanks. Fun video. Have you every had S&W 500 case get stuck in the cylinder? I've tried many brand name ammo and they all get stuck. I have to drive the cases out with a punch and hammer. I bought the gun brand new (Model 500 170255, 7-1/2" bbl.)
I have never had any stick, the rounds eject easily. Has it always been this way? S&W has a lifetime warranty, you should contact them to get it fixed.
@@BigBoreGuns The gun has been sent into S&W twice for warranty. They keep replacing parts but NO fix. I even offered to send them all the ammo I’ve tested and stuck, they refused. This is a special order gun, all black. I've tried just about all brand-new high-quality ammo with all the available bullet size. They ALL stick. This is all the ammo I tried. 500 S&W 400 grain, PTHP, platinum tip, Winchester
@@dougharlow6037There were some regular Smith and Wesson 500 cartridges that were not magnum. They are sometimes called 500 shorts. The case was a bit shorter and causes carbon rings to developed that would cause 500 mags to stick. It’s a nice gun, if it were mine I would take it to a gunsmith and see if they could identify the issue. Perhaps you could then go back and ask for a supervisor with some info to get sw to take ownership of the issues. Just a thought
@@BigBoreGuns thanks for the reply. I'm not sure taking it to a gunsmith would work. All the ammo I listed that stuck, when not fired, slide in and out real easy. You would have to shoot the gun to see the issue, which I assume S&W didn't?? Now if a gunsmith had somewhere to shoot the gun, that might work.
I feel for you, that makes sense, the case expands when fired so if the cylinder was warped or something, it would lock it in place. All cylinders doing it is strange. I hope you can get it resolved.

@BigBoreGuns I have this thing with waiting a year or 2 when it comes to selling any of my 55 firearms and if at that point I still wanna sell it I do it. It's the best way to do it in my opinion because let's face it, when you don't pull a firearm out for a long time you get that urge to sell it from messing with all those newer ones for a while. Until you pull that bad boy out finally and you think to yourself, no, I'm keeping this lol.
