This episode drove me up the wall. Apparently her grandparents were giving her things (like a cellphone) and then undermined the mom (who they label as "crazy" and shame her because she has mental health problems) when she tried to discipline the daughter by saying "you can't take it away from her because *we* gave it to her." Dr. Phil never called them out on it, either. No wonder the kid was so fond of them; it's easy to get someone to like you when you never have to discipline them.

my sister is actually a high school drop out but that’s because she went through immense trauma and she gave up on her life. but she’s doing so great now! she’s married, she has a son too, and she has found a cleaning job. she’s doing great regardless her struggles and she’s an amazingly strong person. this girl on the other hand i don’t know what else to say except she wack as hell if it’s real XD
Looking back I was bullied a lot in high school and luckily I passed my SAT’s that year and to put icing on the cake my graduation speach made everyone’s jaw drop of 2 seconds before a standing ovation that memory still stands in my head after 10 years later

She mentions that she wants to get a GED which is the equivalence of a high school diploma. To obtain one you have to be out of school for at least one year and purchase a book which you study and then you pass the test. The GED is a seven-hour test, separated into two days. There is a math section, an English section, a history section, and a science section on the test. In my country, you can also take a test at the college or university that you are applying to, to make sure that you have the skills required for the program. To get the skills required to pass the tests you can purchase high school workbooks, so basically, she would be homeschooled. That's what she most likely means by still wanting an education. I know this because that's what I did myself because going to school gave me horrible anxiety attacks and panic attacks that got so bad that I was going to the bathroom every 5 minutes and was sometimes going in my pants without knowing so I had to start wearing diapers again. Things got so bad that I wanted to kill myself so eventually, my parents and my therapist decided I should be homeschooled. The real problem with this girl is her attitude, thinking that she is better than everyone, and as much as she says she wants an education I don't buy it, because she thinks she knows everything already.
We all have gone through teenage angst but I couldn't imagine telling everyone, mom included, that you hate her and she's never going to be allowed in her life. That's insane. I'm sure her mom is the strict one and daddy is all "anything you want princess!" 🙄 I hope she and her mom get to reconcile their differences. No matter what it's still her mom.

I'm a criminology major and I don't think this girl understands the true nature of crime scene investigation. It's not as glamorous as it appears on TV. Not only do most police departments require you to have at least an associates degree (although you have a much better chance of landing a job with a bachelor's degree), but you also have to be prepared to get called out at 4 am in the windy 20 degree weather, scrounging around a crime scene for blood splatters and shit. Not as fun as TV makes it seem. And oh my god, her definition of a psychopath made me recoil internally.

Most people who drop out from school can be successful in life and I hope that Dr Phil didn't ruin her life too badly and she managed to get the job she wanted. I actually dropped out of school in year 9 because of bullying. Ended up doing my GCSE's in my local college and now I'm making about £30,000 a year with my art and doing something I love.

As someone who's in college for Forensic Science, with plans to go into crime scene investigation ... ya definitely need an education. I have a class that's literally just analyzing blood splatters to determine different aspects of what could have happened

Let me tell you this, she is actually kind of right. You need some of the first years of school, but when you have learned stuff such as reading and math, you know etc. You don't really need more than that, people just don't want you working at their work place if you don't have a degree and went to high school. A lot of the stuff you learn at school, is stuff to prepare you for jobs. But if you just go ahead and take an education in something that you would like to work in, you could learn it way easier and faster than if you would have wasted the time in school to learn something that you want ever need. For short it's like you wanting to know what 1+1 is and I tell you what 2+2 is, you don't need to know what 2+2 is, you need to know what 1+1 is.
Well if you want a specialised profession and not a basic labour job then tbh you do need a certain level on in depth knowledge. If she wants to be a crime scene investigator, as she said, that might require a lot of chemistry and biology (for forensics) and a high level of English (for detective work) due to the volume of paperwork and reports needed. Also compiling crime statistics require a lot of mathematical analytical skills (perhaps even sociology to help interpret trends), and if you want to do a good job in an interrogation room probably a little bit of psychology wouldn't hurt either. It's not just walking around with a magnifying glass yk. Most professions require a lot more skills than most people realise and there's a lot of crossover.
BC of this, you can't just let kids pick and choose what they want to study cos often they don't realise just just how many subjects go into a certain job, e.g. many kids/teens may not realise that maths (perhaps even physics, to a degree) are integral to architecture and not just art. They also might change their mind over time (I doubt any child sticks to wanting a single job for their entire school career, most change their minds frequently and it wouldn't be practical to frequently switch subjects on a whim). Theres nothing wrong with learning more than you need and having more options available to you so you can choose from them.
Also a lot of covert skills are taught in school, such as professional attire, keeping appropriate formal relationships (with teachers), following instructions, being on time, hypothetical thinking, etc. These may sound pretty basic but certainly children aren't born with these skills and don't really pick them up by themselves without someone pushing them yk
High school sucks but it is necessary. It's really hard to survive it sometimes. There are bullies and lots of responsibilities to tale on that are incredibly stressful to deal with. However, it is imperative to complete your education or attempt it. It's not for everyone, but it is a chance for a good future.
Best to just concentrate on the education, there may be some obstacles but best to just keep going to reach you're dreams and ignore the negative reactions from others ( *it's quite hard and understandable* ) but best to ignore that 👍

I feel like she had a point but just kinda missed it a little bit with the way she said it
Like she's referring to how some things you study in hs are useless (which they are, I bet most people forget 90% of what they studied in hs, Daz brought up the counting thing but that's irrelevant since you study that in elementary school not high school) but you need a degree to get employed. That makes a lot of sense to me.
