Plant was crying because of the tribute being paid to one of his oldest and best friends John Bonham. The choir all wearing the bowler hats in tribute to Bonzo…this was an amazing moment
Also because they invited Jason to accompany them to the ceremony to represent his Dad, but he said that he had a scheduling conflict. The surprise of seeing him when he was introduced caused Robert to get emotional thinking about his John, who was Robert's best friend.
@@FedMikeDC A little more trivia via Jason Bonham: It was actually Jason who got Ann and Nancy invited to sing Stairway. The Kennedy Center reached out to Jason first and had a list of names to sing Stairway that didn't include Ann Wilson. They asked Jason who his choice would be and he without hesitation said Ann Wilson so that's who they called. The performance is credited to Heart but it's just Ann and Nancy without the rest of the band.
Robert was pointing at Jason and laughing at the beginning because they all had REALLY wanted him to be there, but he kept saying he couldn’t ‘cause he had a gig to do in LA that he couldn’t get out of. So when he walked on stage, it was a great surprise.
David Groh played the drums during the rehearsals. No one knew that Jason Bonham was going to play the drums for that performance until he walked out onto the stage, that evening. John Boham & Robert Plant were very good friends. They & their wives had sons at about the same time. Unfortunately, Plant's son died & it was Bonham who dropped everything to be with him during that time. When Boham died, it cut Plant to the quick. When Jason was old enough to go on the road, he asked Plant if he could take his Father's place as drummer. Plant said, "NO. No one can take your Father's place." I think that is the reason Jason playing in this tribute touched Plant so deeply. I believe the bowler hat that Jason was wearing belonged to his Father, who loved to wear hats when performing. All the choir wearing bowler hats was their special tribute to the late, great John Boham.
From what I understand, Ann viewed this as a huge honor to be able to tribute the remaining members of Led Zeppelin this way. and of course having Jason Bonham in the band for this was great. He is actually a really good drummer and plays in a couple bands.
I loved your reaction. The younger guy really felt the powerful connection to how good of a job that Ann and Nancy and the whole band and choir did. Just an absolute masterpiece as only Ann and Nancy could do. Heart has been a huge fan of Led Zeppelin for decades and often times will pay homage to them during their concerts. It is rock royalty honoring rock royalty. I tear up a bit too every time I watch this. I have seen Heart in concert about 6 times over the years. So good.
Jason was wearing his Dads hat as were all the choir. He was also playing his fathers drum kit. During the solo, you can see Jimmy Page mouth moving as he followed every note the guitarist was playing. At the end you can see Robert Plant tearing up. This masterpiece from 50 years ago is the greatest rock song ever! This was a wonderful tribute to the band and the song. Listen to Jack Blacks Comments in the beginning of the full video. Quite interesting. Also, go listen to Heart..
Plant has always been the most critical of ANY group covering Stairway, feeling that no one ever really got it right to the level it was written. As the story goes, he sought out the Wilson sisters and thanked them for such an amazing rendition of it. They have always revered Zeppelin and covered some of their songs, including Stairway on a few occasions, so their natural passions went all-in on this performance.
And look at Mr. Page, the proud papa. I never get tired of watching this and their reactions. To think they were young kids and I was about 12 when I first started listening to Zeppelin 1. Time flies. This is way more than a cover. Legendary.
The woman sitting there is JPJ's wife Maureen. And behind them is Patty Griffin who was the partner of Robert Plant at the time. She is a singer songwriter in her own right.
This was an edited for time version, which cut a good portion of the song out. You should look up the entire tribute which includes the introduction by Jack Black, and songs done by Lenny Kravits, The Foo Fighters, Kid Rock, and Heart. Well worth your time to explore. ♥️✌🏼😎
I'd like to strangle the person that posted this edited version. So many reactors choose this edited version not knowing and miss out on some great music.
Cool reaction to an iconic song, thanks for doing this one. They do a cover of "The Battle of Evermore" that in my opinion shows off these ladies voices and musicianship even better.Even if you guys don't do a reaction to it,it is something you will be glad you saw. Anyways thank you and have a great day!
That was great 👍 thanks, Led Zeppelin and Pink floyd are my favorites, I'm 70 and have been listening to them since the beginning legends, I think the first Zeppelin album is the best ever, I wore out my vinyl, also Heart does a lot of great music
Now...HEART!!! I promise you won't be disappointed, had their first album in 1975, and I've been a fan ever since...I'm now 63 and an army vet, who jocked FM radio for 30 years, primarily in my field of Classic Rock...hope you enjoy...Rock ON!!
David Letterman had Jimmy, John, and Robert on his show the following evening, I believe, if you wanted to follow up this video for your own info. Maybe more of 'for your Dad' message. Check out some Heart, too - tremendous rock band.
Wow! Silas You Really have to check out Heart! In this video they are celebrating Zepplin’s lifetime achievements and contribution to Rock at the Kennedy Center! It’s a big deal! Don’t forget Ann Wilson is much older here and slayin it! You Must check them out! Ann is one of my Fav female singers! Very emotional for Zep as you can see!❤️❤️❤️❤️Love this! Oh and like your dad -I am Not a “cover” fan. But…Heart and Co with Jason Bonham, the choir, Zep being honored and watching from the balcony?! Wow! What a moment! It was plain on Robert’s face! Touching I’m sure!❤️🤟🎼
OK. I missed this one. Seriously. I'm crying watching the members of Zeppelin as they cry watching a GREAT rendition of their own masterpiece! And Bonham in the bowler hat like his Dad would wear..... Famously! A right good English thug he is, eh mate! Also, it's great to see a father & son reaction to great music. I can see that you both have a genuine passion for music!
Jason Bonham played in place of his father John in their O2 Arena concert "Celebration Day" in 2007. Magnificent live album and DVD package of the concert. Worth following through the double CD to hear live versions of some songs you have already done. 16 tracks all up.
Each year, the Kennedy Center honors outstanding artists. This particular year, it was Led Zeppelin, Dave Letterman, and a ballerina whose name I don't recall. The president and first lady are supposed to always attend, but the Trumps never did; that's why the Obamas are there (this was during the second Obama term). This Stairway to Heaven segment came after a commercial break - FooFighters, Lenny Kravitz, and others, did another part of the tribute to Led Zeppelin before the break; that video is also available on YT. Jack Black did the introduction. That's why they were all on stage at the end. :)
This song is linked to so many of my life experiences and this version just caps it! I am a little disappointed that you guys didn't recognize Yo-Yo Ma in audience. To see a musician of his caliber rocking out to this is phenominal!!!
Other people were inducted that night not just Led Zep. Heat wasn't the only people to honor the band. The reason they broke up was they couldn't go on without John. The Band said they should have invited Jason to be there, but unknown to them he was gonna surprise them.
Ann was the perfect choice for this. Heart has always covered Zep in their shows. You are watching an edited and shortened vid here. Grab the full performance if you can!
I stalk reactions for this performance. Lol. This was a great reaction and so happy to see it was impactful to you both! The appreciation for their artistry and talent makes me so happy. :) I am eagerly waiting for the new Disturbed album to drop on November 18th - I've seen that there is a song on it in which David Draiman and Ann Wilson duet. I haven't heard even a whisper of what it sounds like and can't wait! Maybe that would be a good one to react to. Ann was 62 here for the LZ tribute ... does she still have it at 72? I'm guessing she totally does!
It must be an incredible feeling to first be the creators and to perform what was considered rocks anthem, then after many more years hear it performed back so beautifully. I loved Heart and Ann's voice was pure clear power in her youth. Zeppelin was rock royalty. The live version of this from The song remains the same was an exceptional performance. I love seeing someone so young experience what I did. Vicki
I love watching people react to this for the first time. I was fortunate enough to catch it when it first aired on television. I also had the pleasure of seeing Heart perform this live, scaled down, of course, just prior to lockdown.
Actually there's a slightly longer version of this from the actual Kennedy Center Honors that you guys might want to check out. There's a little bit missing in this version.
I cry every time. This tribute evokes such emotion as each new layer comes in, building to that crescendo when the choir joins in! Seeing the tears in River Plant’s eyes just makes me lose it. Amazing!
Silas now you are on my radar . Zeppelin my ultimate group for 5 decades . This is simply the dogs bollocks .. A perfect stunning tribute in oh so many ways …❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
And oh yeah, this is Heart's Crazy On You, including the wonderful acoustic intro that leads into it on the album and they were often played together on the radio that way. it's strange to think of Ann Wilson all these years younger singing this from their most popular album, that had multiple hits on it, and there she is on the stage at the Kennedy Center and still has that great voice. m.ua-cam.com/video/OZuW6BH_Vak/v-deo.html
I'm still watching this in 2023. Wonderful reactions from you both to probably the best cover I've ever heard! They only had one rehearsal can you believe!
Gotta do more Heart, buddy! Start with studio tracks, and then watch anything from their Live In Seattle DVD. Live In Seattle is to Heart what PULSE is to Pink Floyd. It's that good!
I first saw Led Zeppelin in concert at Merriweather Post Pavilion just outside D.C in May of 1969 before they had even written this song. I've been in heat for the Wilson sisters for decades now. You MUST react to some Heart!!!!!🥰
They did a wonderful job. But just remember zepp only had 4 people in there band. That's what makes them the goats. Still great reaction but it does tear me up when robert gets teary-eyed.
I’ve got and still get goosebumps too bro. And I have lost count how many times I’ve watched this, and how many reactions I’ve enjoyed to it, like yours. Thank you, your dad and may God rest Bonzo’s soul in peace🙏🏽
Has to be the best cover of any song that I've ever heard. When I first heard that Heart was doing this cover I thought it was going to be a train wreck. I'm a huge Anna and Nancy Wilson fan but for some reason I couldn't' picture them doing this song any justice. Boy was I wrong.
That Kennedy Centers Honors show in 2012 was such a good show. David Letterman was also honored and Blues legend Buddy Guy. British rock bands love Blues and reintroduced us to our own American Blues. Jimmy Page was super excited during Buddy Guy's tribute. Just clapping really hard like a true fan. Which was so cool to see. So is watching your reactions. Really cool indeed. 😊✌💙
This is the edited version for TV..The full version is up here on UA-cam..Also someone commented on their cover of The Battle Of Evermore..Thats a must listen..Theirs a number of them up on UA-cam singing it..One from 2002 in Seattle..Another concert from I think 2013..The 2013 has more audience noise but it's still good...
Was hoping you would get around to listening to this. Even better with the addition of your father. Is always a blast witnessing younger folk react to this performance. Not only because of the song, but because of the circumstances surrounding it, especially Ann Wilson's great vocals. I expected nothing less from her, but the emotional impact of having the remaining Led Zeppelin members in the audience coupled with Ann's singing is explosive. Of course, Nancy's guitar playing is good, too.
Have Listened to Zep ,every 15 min on the Radio Stations in 73 & 74 yrs. So Wonderful, Heart been partying to ROCK -OUT LADIES , THIS Is Jack's Wife , Both of My Favorites for Eternity 💖💯✨🙏🙏🙏✨✨🙏🙏✨💖💯✌️👌💥🔥FIRE🔥
I've read that Plant was later asked what he was thinking when he was tearing up and he said something along the lines of wondering, HOW DID WE GET HERE?
Brilliant to see a young person's reaction to this tribute. Dad, doing a great job with your son. This tribute to Led Zeppelin is amazing. Anne's voice is pure heaven. Nancy on guitar, phenomenal. Jason, your dad would be so, so proud. You rocked it. And Led Zeppelin, rock legends.
This is my first time watching your you-tube. But what I would like to say to the young man thats hosting this piece. Keep your dad in as many of your posts as you can. There will come a time when you can look back on these with fond memories. Good review, excellent song.
Watch the complete tribute from the kennedy center Kid rock did a great ramble on and so much more ! It was a great show its on u tube in complete form 😍😍 have your dad sit wirhbta on it
It was rumored that the reason that Plant was so excited to see Jason was that he was thinking that he should invite him to the event, but he didn't. Plant was a second father to Jason and he had to go tell Jason that his father had died. I love what Heart did with the song and not bad for a woman in her 60's to still sound so good.
I always liked Heart, Personally I do like covers but they have to bring something to the music. or if they are covering because the original artists can no longer preform (consider we have centuries old music which can only be heard as a cover version as they were written before recording was possible). I think the first cover I heard of this was by the Far Corporation. A little interesting fact i discovered about this song is that the beginning quiet section of the song can be superimposed onto the fast metal part and if fits hand in glove, that is genius as the 2 bits seem very different.
Robert Plant had tears because he didn't know Jason was going to be there playing the drums, was very emotional since he was close w/ Bonzo and Jason. This was an edited for tv version, if you really like it hunt down the full length version. It's very nice, full guitar solo, so iconic, kind of criminal to edit that. The audience was full of musicians, Herbie Hancock, YoYo Ma, Bonnie Raitt, Sheila E some shown on camera. Heart has always covered Zeppelin songs, from way back, and Ann is incredible singer, so was great choice for this. Hunt down their (or Love Mongers side project?) version of Battle of Evermore for a real treat.
The Best song, with the Best cover for the Best Band. When I watch the faces of LZ guys as they view this, I see melancholy and celebration. I also see the 3 musicians that are honored wishing that they could get down there and jam with them. I also think I see or maybe I just feel the melancholy and the freshness of the beginnings of both these bands. How can that be gone, so fast? Paraphrasing Peter Frampton; "Let's Do It Again."
In my top ten videos of all time. The Wilson sisters are true American treasures. They are big fans of LZ and have done several covers of LZ tunes over the years. Sometime you must react to some Nightwish for another amazing diva female lead singer. Do the live performances from Wacken festival of Ghost Love Score, Romanticide and Storytime.
Tremendous performance, the singer..Ann Wilson was 62yrs at this time. There was also great LZ songs performed by Kid Rock, Lenny Fravitz and Foo Fighters before this..the entire tribute took about 23 minutes which includes Jack Black speaking, I so recommend you watch for your own enjoyment...great reaction guys !!
I hope after seeing this you will dive into some of Hart’s vintage hits because and Wilson’s voice is off the charts good in her prime so you can check out barracuda, magic man, alone, and tons of others. By the way she was 62 years old when she sang this song
Ann and Nancy are still out Rockin. Ann was at Wacken this summer with her band. They are still Beautiful at 72 and 69 as of right now. They both have albums out from Last year. Ann and Nancy we're on tour in Florida when this was taking place.
Plant was crying because of the tribute being paid to one of his oldest and best friends John Bonham. The choir all wearing the bowler hats in tribute to Bonzo…this was an amazing moment
Jason was playing his dads drum kit i think
@@garya7893 I think the original Ludwig Amber Vistalite kit Bonzo used is currently in the Hard Rock Hotel in Cancun

One of the best tributes I ever heard. Nancy, Ann, Jason, and the rest should be proud of that performance.
Hate me if you like but I prefer this performance to Led Zeppelin.
They way Jason looks up to Heaven when Ann sings the last word of the song, touches me. He looked up to his dad, John.
Plant's tears sum it up for me... Beautiful. Ann Wilson is an icon
David Groh played the drums during the rehearsals. No one knew that Jason Bonham was going to play the drums for that performance until he walked out onto the stage, that evening.

Ann Wilson has such a powerful voice, she does this song justice! Silas you really need to hear 'Heart'.
And she had flu at that moment.
Nancy Wilson does a beautiful job of playing the acoustic guitar on this set
This version brings tears to my eyes every time I’ve seen it (which is many). When the whole chorus comes in…goosebumps!

What an honor to have led Zeppelin give you a standing ovation
John Paul Jones, The Master Arranger, and Orchestrater, must have been quite "technically" impressed by this stunning Performance.
The whole 20 minute tribute is great, from Jack Black to Heart.
Great tribute to the greatest band in history! Jason Bonham on drums!

I saw 'Jason Bonham's Led Zeppelin Experience' play in Reno a week or two before this show aired on PBS.
She’s been crushing it for decades. Her voice is stunning
Great arrangement and performance ! I saw Zeppelin at the Atlanta Stadium in 1973.
I love this dad remembering his youth snd his son starting his w Led Zep
Tremendous performance, the singer..Ann Wilson was 62yrs at this time. There was also great LZ songs performed by Kid Rock, Lenny Fravitz and Foo Fighters before this..the entire tribute took about 23 minutes which includes Jack Black speaking, I so recommend you watch for your own enjoyment...great reaction guys !!
This is the short version but this cover is fantastic !
Ann and Nancy Wilson are ROCK ROYALITY!
I hope after seeing this you will dive into some of Hart’s vintage hits because and Wilson’s voice is off the charts good in her prime so you can check out barracuda, magic man, alone, and tons of others. By the way she was 62 years old when she sang this song
I've seen this many times and it is THE best cover of any song ever.
Ann Wilson is a powerhouse!! In my opinion she’s the only one that can pull off a Zeppelin cover.
A great Tribute TO A GREAT BAND
Tributes aren't done any better than this. This is legendary. Gives me chills every time.
You need to see the opening of this show by black jack. Epic!
Great performance by the whole band! ✌☮
"And as we wind on down the road" this planet's mission statement
Led Zeppelin is everything!
Incredible cover and great reaction guys!
Ann and Nancy are still out Rockin. Ann was at Wacken this summer with her band. They are still Beautiful at 72 and 69 as of right now. They both have albums out from Last year. Ann and Nancy we're on tour in Florida when this was taking place.
