Jimmy Page, Robert Plant and John Paul Jones have always been his Father's since the day of the John Bonham's funeral! They have taken care of Jason and his Mother all these years and are now Grandfather's to Jason's children.
Having seen Heart in concert many times over the years they have always covered a few LED Zeppelin songs. I’ve never heard them do Stairway To Heaven till this Kennedy Center Honors. They completely nailed it on every corner. The entire band did. Robert Plant said months later that this was the best best cover of their song. It is rock royalty honoring other rock royalty. We’ll done. And yes it’s very emotional to watch and listen to. It is perfection.
@@proofprof50 as a huge Freddie Mercury fan, who sadly lost his life on the same day as Eric Carr of KISS, and as one who has seen him live (The Game tour), I’ll buy that! Nevertheless, as a singular performance, Heart and Jason Bonham’s tribute to Led Zeppelin is a stand out to say the least.
@@DrTomMD Hey... I cried the first time I saw this, and it still makes me tear up. Did you know that day, Jason had talked to Plant on the phone and told him that he didn't know if he could make the tribute, so that surprised reaction from Plant at the beginning gives it more context.
A little difficult not to choke up a bit seeing the looks on Page, Plant and Jone's faces. And the courage to walk out there and do that in front of them and nail it as well as they did was something to see. Especially the Wilson sisters and Shane Fontayne, who played the solo. Play THAT solo in front of Jimmy Page himself? He had to have at least one butterfly or two prior to that. Don't get me wrong, Shane is a well accomplished musician, but that's Jimmy Page!
I'm listening to music over 60 years this is one of the greatest performances ever. Anne Wilson is one of the greatest singers in music history. Phenomenal performance? Best success on yr channel
I saw Led Zeppelin perform April 8, 1970 in Dorton Arena, Raleigh, NC. I was 17 and that was best concert to this day I ever saw. That puts them above Jimi Hendrix, Lynyrd Skynyrd, ZZ Top, Allman Brothers Band, Jethro Tull and many others. Watching this amazing video did bring tears to my old eyes.
This video is cut way down for television, several verses were cut out, but the full performance of this song without the edits are on UA-cam. Just search for this with "full version" and you'll see it. Same performance but with about 3-4 more minutes of the song.
You mentioned the choir and the drummer, but here are a couple other things which really made this performance special for the band: • Robert Plant is Jason Bonham's godfather, and he invited Jason to attend the Kennedy Center Honors to participate in the tribute on behalf of his father. Jason, already on-board to drum with Heart, then lied to Robert, saying that he had already committed to play in a gig that night in L.A. • The drum kit that Jason is playing is one of his father's session kits, and the hat is one that his dad wore while touring.
Great choice, and great reaction !! You enjoy It in such emotionsl way, love it, the best tribute they deserved. Fabulous, I've watched this video hundreds of times and it always brings tears to my eyes. To see the smiling and proud faces of John Paul and Jimmy Page contrasting with the sad and pensive look of Plant, God. What was he thinking, maybe remembering the first time he performed this masterpiece. How lucky are those of us of a certain age to grow up with music as creative and of such a level as it was done in the sixties and seventies. I'm 62 . Keep on rocking guys Greetings from Barcelona ❤
If you’re going to pay tribute to Led Zeppelin with this song and know you can’t do it better, you make it special in a way no one has or will ever do it. Then you nail it! Epic!
Too bad you saw the "abbreviated" version. The guitar solo was cut down for sure. I'm 66 and I get tears, involuntary, every time I watch this. Every guy needs a bit of tears every once in a while. Great reaction guys!
Story goes Robert asked Jason to come to the tribute for his father and he told him he had a previous engagement and couldn't make it. Hence Robert's reaction when he saw him❤
Great job guys on the reaction I grew up on this music and it touched my heart that may never see them perform this again,Jesus and the tears were real in my eyes. A GREAT honor from Heart to led zep
Zeppelin performed with Bonham on drums in a live concert back in 2007. Y’all must checkout the “Kashmir” performance! Jason shows he’s got his father’s blood big time in that one!
Not if you’re Heart ! Jason Bonham on his dads drum set and wearing his Bowie hat. The flute sound is being played on Keyboards. Nerves of steel it musts have taken to play that solo in front of Page himself.
You should hear Ann Wilson cover Kashmir. She's phenomenal. IMO Heart is really the only band that can cover Led Zeppelin with justice. Something about Ann's voice.
If you like Heart covering Led Zeppelin songs, May I suggest their cover of the Battle of Evermore at the concert for the rock and roll hall of fame in 1995 on youtube. That is their best version (acoustic)
Omg. You 2 are the best!! The friggin dog. 😁 Great reaction. You also have the loudest version out there. Meaning I can crank it waaayy up!! 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼 Noice!!
Tear-Jerker? I thought it was the onions on this pizza...Jason and the choir wearing John's Bowler hat was awesome. But at the end when Jason had his head down, eyes closed and then opened his eyes as he lookin upwards made me feel like he was sayin "You made it up that stairway Dad." That hit me hard.
I'm new to your channel. I never pass up watching heart singing stairway to heaven. Cry every time. I was wondering if you guys every saw the good the bad and the ugly. By the danish orchestra I think you should definitely not miss out. Thanks. Enjoyed the channel!
Heart, while Rock icons on their own, are the premier Led Zeppelin "cover" band. Nobody does Zeppelin like the Wilson sisters except Plant, Page, Jones and Bonham! I have a suggestion for another female artist, check out Beth Hart. She's done some great performances with the likes of Joe Bonamassa, Jeff Beck and Buddy Guy in fact she did a tribute to Buddy Guy this same night with Jeff Beck called "I'd Rather Go Blind". She did a show about 20 some years ago at the Provisio with her own band and did a wild performance of her original "Am I The One" but it's not suitable for younger audiences LOL. The woman can ROCK!!!
The whole tribute is amazing!!! Check it out 👍🏻Great reaction!! You guys are great. They really went all out for this tribute. You can find the whole thing with Jack black, Lenny Kravitz… it’s amazing!
The Kennedy center honors has been around since the 70s.John f kennedy started it because he wanted to praise the arts. It's everything from ballet opera classical music rock and roll jazz country
Ann Wilson has the greatest womans rock voice out there ! Jason has also played many concerts with Led Zeppelin, Ann and Nancy have been friends with the guys, and they wouldn't just let anybody play this song. Pausing this song ruins the natural build-up of this great song !
I know this is a 2 yr old reaction but I'd like to recommend Jason's album In the Name of My Father (if you haven't heard it!) - totally worth every second!
About 2/3rds of the way through Plant leans over to Page and says; "Not bad!" That is about as complimentary as Page not being able to sit still, grinning ear to ear! Plant absolutely hates it when bands try to cover this song!
There were other people that were honored that night. After this performance, it's clear who the stars of the show were. I kind of feel sorry for the other inductees.
Robert Plant famously HATES cover versions of LED Zeppelin songs especially Stairway To Heaven. BUT…….. he told Heart backstage after this performance that he LOVED it as it bought up so many emotions (especially of John “Bonzo” Bonham”) as you can see in his face.
You guys need to watch Jack Black’s introduction of Led Zeppelin. You might remember he made that movie school of rock, and we heard traces of the immigrant song and I don’t know, a lot of zeppelin stuff in that movie because his character loved loved loved Zeppelin!!!
Great reacton to a great tribute. I would love to see you react to Nightwish - Ghost Love Score, live at Wacken Open Air 2013. And they also made a great tribute to another great band. Check it out if you feel like it. Nightwish - High Hopes (Pink Floyd) from End of an era 2005. Even David Gilmore became a fan after hearing it. Hahahahaha
Jason Bonham told Rolling Stone magazine that he would only do this performance if Ann Wilson sang it. Pretty cool fact.
Ann Wilson Is the best female rock voice ever!! 🙌🏼👑
Hard to believe that Ann Wilson was 62 years old at the time of this tribute. What a set of pipes!
And she had the flu.
watch Steve Tyler still singin` his "Dream On" in his 70s
that ¨to be a rock and not to roll¨ part has to be one of the best screams in rock history., hands down..cheers from Uruguay.
💯
Obsessed with Ann belting that OMG
You can tell Robert Plant is fighting back tears...he and John Bonham grew up together.
They were very close when Robert Plant lost his five-year-old son John Bonham was right there with him and helped him get through his darkest days.
Jason is Robert Plant's Godson.
Jason's godfather too
This is by far the BEST rendition of this song I’ve ever heard…. Ever! Perfection! ❤️🎧🤘🏼🎵
Heart may have made themselves immortal doing a tribute number, how awesome.
Jimmy Page, Robert Plant and John Paul Jones have always been his Father's since the day of the John Bonham's funeral! They have taken care of Jason and his Mother all these years and are now Grandfather's to Jason's children.
Ann Wilson is the best! Love her.
You have to see the Canadian center.Honors led zeppelin from the very beginning when jack black introduces them and tells them Their story
Having seen Heart in concert many times over the years they have always covered a few LED Zeppelin songs. I’ve never heard them do Stairway To Heaven till this Kennedy Center Honors.
They completely nailed it on every corner. The entire band did.

Интересно было бы узнать его мнение о трибьюте Black Dog от Beth Gart
Possibly the greatest live performance of all time.
Cannot think of one better

Seen this so many times and it still brings tears to my eyes.

They rehearsed every single day for three weeks for this performance.

I was going to suggest the same thing. The cuts put back in raise the level of this video to even greater heights.
Don't worry man. It got all of us. Perfection.
Try being 16 with head phones back in the day...bittersweet...Heart is epic..Nancy probably best female guitarist...Annie Wilson...no words....
Saw her 2 days ago in concert and she still can belt it out. She sang Black Dog by led zeppelin and killed it.
Forgot to mention. She is 72 now. Amazing voice.
Ann Wilson was 62 years old when she sàng this. Unbelievable! ❤️

Beautiful reaction guys. I tear up every time and I bet I have watched this video 100's of times. Those ladies, choir ect. did Led Zepplin proud.
Yes they did make them proud
Spot on guys!!
The guy doing the solo was Shane Fontayne who played for the Bruce Springsteen band, amasing guitarist.
Before Ann and Nancy became famous with "Heart" they played clubs around the Seattle area and their favorite band to cover was Led Zeppelin.
I saw heart once and their encore song was Rock n Roll.
They're friends with John Paul Jones; he produced their album, "The Road Home" in 1994. They go way back.
Wow. I miss those days in Seattle. What a Vibe

Also, you should watch the ENTIRE tribute to Led Zeppelin. This was just the last song!
Noticed that ... who the hell takes a few seconds out of a guitar solo??? It ruins the build up through to the choir coming in. Bizzare.
Story goes Robert asked Jason to come to the tribute for his father and he told him he had a previous engagement and couldn't make it. Hence Robert's reaction when he saw him❤
I get tears every time I see this, it's so amazing and powerful. What a great honor to watch.
An absolute classic! The best rendition I've ever heard period!
The Wilson sisters are AMAZING
One great band covering another great band can't get better
How dare you pause it haha. Should’ve let him soak it all in. Perfect, absolutely perfect cover.
I remember seeing Led Zeppelin in 1972 with Black Sabbath at the LA Forum. That concert was crazy being able to both bands is still blowing my mind.
The Gods of Rock.
And Heart ❤️
Great job guys on the reaction I grew up on this music and it touched my heart that may never see them perform this again,Jesus and the tears were real in my eyes. A GREAT honor from Heart to led zep
