Challenge: whole show with borrowed objects
Challenge: Do an entire performance while eating a full meal.
This would be hilarious
StevenBridges Especially if it was like a fancy four-course meal.
@@stevenbridges do this!
Do a show only speaking gibberish for the whole show (crowd build up, show, money collecting). And remember to keep straight face, act like it's a real language and everyone should understand you perfectly.
Oh can you imagine how awkward that would be!
TeBe Great challenge. My suggestion is to do a show without any words.
It worked well for Chung Ling Soo, great idea ;^>
Challenge: build a crowd w/o using cutleries as an attraction
Ah don't take my forks away from me
Use spoons instead
Or sporks (best of both worlds)
Harley Symonds that’s why I specifically said cutleries. No spoons allowed! 😜
OOo forkkkkkk
Your friends and you are all so talented. I loved that random woman's dancing, appreciated that. I've missed your videos. I love your sense of humour. Great video, Steven.
Thanks very much! :D hahaha yeah she just came up to me saying she was trying to dance in my video. :)
I used to dabble in magic and my friend was a street performer in Covent Garden. I spent one summer there, tagging along with him and his other performer friends.. It was a great time. After one of his shows an American came over to give him some money and asked me to show him a trick. I showed him a relatively amateur card trick and he gave me 20 quid.. He told me he was a stock broker and it was fine.. so I graciously accepted.. Magic is awesome, so are some people :)
I'm a balloon twister. Your story reminded me of one crappy event I was at years ago. Small festival, on the road and "not making the nut" that weekend. And two guys came along who wanted silly hats and the whole shtick. Hung around for half an hour. Paid me...oh...80 bucks over all (bits at a time). Turned the day around for me.
Then there was the time I'm doing the "Reverse Puppy Dog Magic Show" for a guy and his date. And a drunk comes up as I'm doing the big finale. (A pom pom appearing "by magic" on the tail.) "If you can make that balloon do anything my dick can't do, I'll give you ten bucks" he slurs, loudly.
That awkward moment? Show (and tip) ruined? Nope. I count down from 3, blow (like a birthday candle) and Voila! Pom pom at the end of the long skinny tail.
"Fair enough" he said. Pays me. The guy pays for the show (a pretty good one, all in all) & the puppy for his date. And I strolled on.
Done magic ever since I was 6, would love to come travel all over to perform. Street performing is FUN!
Congrats on getting back into vlogging your street shows. That has been some of my favorite content of yours, keep up the good work! Also, I liked your comment on Ramsay's video about no longer doing tutorials- very well thought out!
I love these videos not just because they're day in the life of a street performer, they're pretty much a day vlog of Steven and thats wonderful
I was only in the hospital two weeks, and you already had two videos out here for me to catch up on! Way to go, Steven!! I love these street performing videos. This was great to return online to see!
Create a new routine in one day and the. Preform it that same day
LOVE this!
Awesome can’t wait to download the page you said at the end! I’m getting a busking permit for Toronto in two to three weeks so excited to get out there
So glad to see these back! They were what brought me over hear in the first place. For a challenge, might be a bit hard, but how about a whole show without talking? If you can build a crowd and hold a good show without saying a word you'll clearly have an exceptional one when you start chatting again
I think it would be an interesting challenge to perform using as few words as possible.
You have phenomenal charisma, and it's one of the reasons you've managed to build a good size youtube channel, but aside from that, some of your most compelling videos are your "keep your eye on the..." videos, which are largely dialogue (monologue?) free. I'm not sure how well it would pair with building the audience and performing, and if it's simply too big of a change-up to your routine to be a fair challenge, but it would maybe help you become a better performer in some ways.
Other challenge ideas:
Do a performance somewhere you've never been. Hard mode, in another country, extra hard mode, a country that doesn't speak English.
Do a backflip in your performance but don't mention it at all, or make any reference to it.
Do a performance with someone else.
Good to see you back street performing, Steven! And to see the return of the ‘Day in the Life’ videos!
As for a street performer challenge, perhaps, in addition to building an audience without saying anything, you could try a trick with an audience member without saying something? It may help when an individual may not know that much English, or is hard of hearing like myself! It may also be interesting on the grounds of making sure that everyone is included in the act, in addition to that one person to whom you’re doing the trick.
Also, that ‘artistic salad shot’ was glorious, hahaha!
Very nice idea!
Challenge: get an absolute stranger to preform the whole thing. Or at least orientate it around that 1 random person.
I love your. Videos and the fact that you've rekindled my interest in magic. I know I'll never street perform, but the idea of knowing how to do tricks has always interested me. Thank you!!!!
So glad you're back :)
Love your vids Steven they are a really good insight into what it's like to be a busker in London.
I love these types of videos Steven, really insightful and of course very enjoyable c;
Thanks Theo! Glad you like them
I’ve watched a few of your videos last night I was admiring your pitch thinking I should bring my Uni through, guess dyna mike beat me to it. Looks like a great place
STEVEN YES i love these videos!! loved the random person dancing lmao
challenge- dance while doing every trick lol
Hey Steven! So glad you're back doing street performing. I went to town last week to see you and of course you weren't there, but would love to see a your show. So are you performing next week, and if so when?
Yes! I love these! Totally understand you taking the winter off though.
Also, I think you need a trick with something big to draw a big crowd. Like a big inflatable object. In the states we have all of the inflatable pool floats that are food items like slices of pizza or a donut. I think those would be cool to do a trick with in the summer time.
Do a street porformance blindfolded.
They would leave without paying haha
I have to say, this a good length for the beard. In all seriousness, nice video man; never stop performing.
Hey come back , we miss you... Merry Christmas my man ;)
Build a croud without using any cutlery xD
I used to do kind of loosely scripted plays, and one of the games we played was if we noticed someone wearing a band or musician shirt we'd work their lyrics into the show. Sometimes the person notices, or other audience members notice and it's like an inside joke. And sometimes they remain clueless and it's just super funny for you. This probably doesn't translate into the challenges you were looking for, but it's still a fun game to play!
Great video. Always a fan of you! Hope you succeed well in what you want to do.😄
I love these street magic videos can't wait to see more
Thank you! :D
Street-performer challenge 3: in the middle of your show start singing any famous song (maybe something from the Beatles or The Rolling Stones etc) and try to get your audience to sing with you.
Blend your show with a musical. Build a crowd while singing and throwing your cutlery
hahhahah wow that would be embarrassing.
All the more reason to do it.
Steve is amazing haha i met him at Leicester Square in September when a New Yorker Basketball Busker was doing his show and he was going absolutely crazy xD
Great street performer i loved to watch you're show greetings from Belgium ;p
Glad to this again. Keep it up :D
I've seen Christopher in Leicester Square last November! I was in London for two days, fancy that 😂
oooooh Steven I LOVEEEE these videos
That tip at 6:13 was really interesting I've never thought of that before! Good to see you back on the streets mate (That sounds very negative without context)
Hell yeah!
Yup these are the best vids
As a challenge perhaps take an area or type of magic you don’t perform much or aren’t comfortable with (your choice here as only you know what might make you uncomfortable) and use that as your theme to build a new show around using your current set pieces implemented in new ways, reimagined to the new theme.
I was in Leicester Square looking for you a few weeks ago when I was on vacation in London. This would explain why I didn't see you :P
DAM IT I WAS IN LONDON AT LESTER SQUARE BUT I MISSED IT
What a lovely video :)
I go downstairs to do one blasted thing and you upload a video!
P.s: I let the Grammarly advert run all the way through to give you dat cash. (wink)
Dr BEN.
Welcome back!
Thanks mate! :)
get the crowd to understand your tricks and intentions without using words. whistling, humming, playing an instrument, screeching like a bird, whatever else could be allowed
Love the vlog
Loved this video so much. Just becuase I saw Steven bridges in it. I think that before we watch a video we should ask ourselves is Steven bridges in it. If not dint watch it 😉
Challenge: Make your friends disturb you while you're doing your show.
Nice Video mate! I am a street performer (magician) from Germany and I am actually working on building an audience without saying anything. Would love to see other people doing this as well and learn from each other! Because if you mastered to build an audience without saying anything, you have to be a decent performer! :)
10 hour Lumpi yeah I agree, the less you need to rely on to build a crowd the better performer you are I think
I must have been to leicester square 200+ times and I've never actually noticed the grass square that much. I've known it's there, but I've never been in it and whenever I pass it I've never actually looked at it. Does anybody know what I'm talking about or even care?
Street-performer challenge 2: Say at least one famous quote from any movie or book every five minutes of your show.
I am also planning to do a street performance totally blind! No magician blindfolds, really blind. Will try it next year.
Is that color correction or is the grass really that green, because if so that is some really nice grass.
Do a street show without playing cards and cups and ball routine I know you can come up with something great you got it!!!
Challenge: Do a show entirely with either no props (mind reading etc) or just with (at least apparently) borrowed objects.
Great job ma man. :)
Aw I miss the days when I could just walk into Leicester Square and see the magic of Steven Bridges, it always blows me away!! 😱 #Movemebacktolondon
Would be interesting to see a show in Leicester Square with no mic. I’ve never used a mic because I’ve only done sidewalk (small) shows.
Street performer challenge: Do a whole show in which you are blindfolded.
I know it’s an old vid but your link with the article on how to be a street performer is down. If you happen to see it and it helps awesome
What days do you perform or does it really vary? I saw u once on my 16th birthday
Challenge: do a whole show blindfolded 😊 (you're amazing!!)
A street performance tour would be FAB if you haven’t already done one and if it’s poss!! 😍
Interesting! What exactly would you like in that video?
StevenBridges like a mini UK tour of you performing on as many streets as possible around the UK or England! That’d be so cool! :)
StevenBridges maybe give yourself a time limit like see how many cities you can visit in 24 hours or a weekend! :)
Street-performer challenge 4: after every trick start shouting “Ste-ven Brid-ges! Ste-ven Brid-ges” like Bill Malone does in his shows.
Challenge / question: If you go to a school and preform for kids within 6 to 10 years old, do you need to change your street show? What are the street skills that are transferable to other types of shows? Would still deliver your hat speech? Charlie Caper talks about using busking psychology into wining Sweden’s Got Talent ua-cam.com/video/On5df2RcDFc/v-deo.htmlm32s
Do a street performance to music and doing the magic to musicality
I challenge you to come perform in Boston. We could use you here!
Holy heck Chris is so good!
He's the best!
Do you have a valk3 or that's just a random cube
This is an idea, no idea if you might use it or if it would even work, but while doing a performance, steal 3 peoples watches(of course give them back), the reason for it is so that you will captivate the audience enough to where they won’t notice their watches being taken.
Hey Steven, I will be flying to London on wednesday, so is there any schedule when, and where I could watch your performance?
I do not schedule shows unfortunately, it's whether dependent. Best thing is to follow me on insta or twitter and often I'll mention if I'm planning on going out the next day. If it's going to rain wednesday I won't be out
I'm sure you get enough of this but oh well. I live in North London and practise close up card magic, would be great to meet up sometime since I feel the magic community in London isn't huge. Doesn't have to be filmed or anything like that, let me know if this is something you'd consider.
Bangers n mash
Hey Steven, I was just watching your video of you three card monte and I was wondering how you learned all of the slights for it?
School for scoundrels :)
Eat and drink, while you are doing the show, and then use it to do some magic. Like you could eat a soup and then find a ball in to the soup and start performing cups and balls.
Hey man are you going to come to Glasgow any time soon ?
Before I leave the UK. It would be awesome to see your show :)
What about performing whilst attached to someone/something.(I.e. Handcuffed to a spectator)
I miss your vids.
A challenge that takes after teller from Penn & teller, do a full show without saying a word!
Did you ever start doing the longer show, or are you still doing two shorter ones?
CHALLENGE: try and say the following words somewhere in one of your shows:
•Cockatoo
•Steering wheel
•Spanish Inquisition
•Brazil
•Boris Johnson
•Fridge
Everything you say has to rhyme ahaha that would be such a good time actually
I get so uncomfortable watching street performers because I'm so scared they're going to mess up and they'll get embarrassed and people will think they're less good than they actually are -_-
Is there any chance that you could post a video of a full street show you perform?
If I write a new show I may do that. But I like to keep my current show only available live.
Fair enough, great video!
I like how you brough up "performing without a microphone" and "building an audience without saying anything" as they might quite easily be quite hard and "disabling" to do... so you don't want those two to be anything that you have to do :P
However, my challenge for you would be... to do a show where you make a magic trick with only your feet! (do put a tarp under your bum if you do something like this on the street, though :P)...
Also my suggestion only works as long as you are comfortable showing your feet :P
Challenge: do the whole performance silent and you have to get a crowd by walking around to people doing silent tricks
Challenge: Do the whole show with a Top Hat and Cane
Challenge: try to make new material for, perhaps not each show, but have new original material every week!
Best of luck!
Do a portion of your show blindfolded
What about a completely silent act? No crowd-building, no hatlines, no cheeky jokes!
I don't know to what degree you already do this, but try to build a crowd 360 degrees around you! That way you need to engage witch a crowd all around you while watching your angles during the tricks!
Yeah I've definitely had full moons before but it's much more doable during the holidays. Then I can build a really big crowd. But may be an interesting challenge to try and build the biggest crowd I can
Were you at the Grand Beatbox Battle? I think I saw you in the crowd!
No sorry but there are many people that look like me
Oh, I think I know a rather interesting challenge for a street magician.
From what I've seen a lot of magic requires a certain measure of preparation. Can you provide enough diverse preparation to only do a show where you react to different audience members' input?
That is, every spec of magic performed is in reaction to something someone in the audience says or does.
So like an improvised magic show? Would be VERY tough
Agreed. Very, very tough. Although I'm not a magician myself, I understand enough about it to know how hard it'd be. But nothing would demonstrate your skill like pulling that off.
Challenge: Do an entire show one handed, or do a show entirely without walking (you can jump, skip, crawl, hop, but not walk or run to move yourself around).
I would suggest doing trying to do a new street performance in a new location every time, that way you end up with a fresh set faces every single time. Might be interesting. Maybe even add a new concept to your show each and every time, until you have this insanely long chain of tricks that eventually turn into this one huge amalgamation magic trick that was made up by various smaller tricks that can only be completed by performing each show. Granted....I feel like the logistics of it may be a bit...uh...much? But, it'd be freaking cool.
Do a show that’s a collab with another street performer or magician
Yeah that'd be fun!
These crowds you guys get are MASSIVE I never see stuff like this in America...but maybe I just don’t visit the right cities 😂
Also, to your challenge thing: what if you did an entire magic show silently?
What were you doing over the last five months?
Do 5 classic passes when controlling a card
Where are you?
