This has changed my whole outlook! I've been stuck with pentatonic licks and barely running up and down modes. This has opened up a whole new door. Thank Rob! 🤘
So glad this video is back, I was searching for it forever and was so disappointed when I couldn’t find it. Such good info here! Thanks Rob!
That was awesome. This is gonna give me a new way to incorporate modes in my riff writing. Thanks!!!
I've been waiting for this one sir!
Thanks so much to take you time to explain this.
Pretty awesome Rob!
I love this. Thanks Rob
You just changed the way I look at scale shapes completely, thank you
You bloody genius!!! I've been doing this with the major scale since your dorje days and never thought of applying it to the other modes damn
You are welcome dude, glad it helps :-)
@@RobChappers dude seriously your the number one inspiration and reason I still play to this day. Thank you for the decades worth of content much love!!
Thank you for making theory approachable!
Thanks Rob. This is the key I've been missing for years to blend and connect between Blues and Phrygian Dominant. Now I have to play and practice this connection to make my first song "The Dream" better.
i never thought about throwing pentatonic in there with phyrgian dominant, thats really cool and easy
thanks Rob!
Even as beginner i can understand the idea behind it. Thank you so much, really inspiring
Wow Rob. I was playing those notes naturally because I liked the sound of it. "LIke You"... I watched this and started practicing the scale and it has opened doors for me. Thank you so much for this I really needed it and enjoyed it.Long time Follower. much Love
I miss Dorje soooo much!☹ That sound was soooo unique!🤘🏻😁🤘🏻
Fantastic. Big fan, love these soliloquy asides for learning and it sounds great
Cheers dude, glad you like it ;-)
For the longest time I've loved the sound of Dorje, and have been trying to figure out the "secret sauce" so to speak, but have never thought to ask the question what mode are all the riffs written in? This totally just made my day. Also! Please do more lesson videos, this was great. \m/
I’ve been on a riff writing binge lately, so this came at a perfect time. Hope you’re doing well, Rob!
You’re welcome bro!
Thanks a lot for this! I've always loved your riffing and been trying to write riffs like it but failed miserably 😂
Thanks Rob
Yes!!! I love when you give us pieces of gold like this in your videos! I am a mere peasant that feasts on your secrets, Sir Rob! Feed me more! Me fatty!
You have copped way to much crap over the last few months. Love your guitars and your attitude. Keep on going and take my upvote and subscription. BTW, just grabbed the MG30 after watching your review of the 400 and not disappointed. All the best from Gosford Australia.
Sickth mode man thanks.
8:11 that is so fkn cool! I'm going to steal some of that silverware, hope you don't mind (haha).
Love this mode myself. Usually play it on a 3 note per string pattern, if you've got good stretching it's great for shreds too!
Also good to know that the harmonic minor is the 4th in the diatonic... if you think about it like that, it offers a lot more creative options.
This is why you’re a beautiful man Rob :) God bless your Queen mate. From the USA 😢
You are welcome oh mighty spider \w/
From Rob's description of phrygian dom, I think I'll rename it the bipolar scale
Finally! Absolutely one of my favourite modes, especially when it comes to drone tones. I've always found that Phrygian Dominant also let's you stack two Major triads a half step apart from the root and B2, which can feel kinda spicy 🔥
Hope you're doing well man!
Yeah man, I love it - Thanks for watching ;-)
Thanks Rob - if there's ONE THING I would like to see....is picking technique. I believe that's the difference between knowing the notes....and sounding good. If you could give us a masterclass on this, particularly alternate picking, picking every note etc I`d be a rich man :) Legato I can do but sometimes it isn`t enough.
That sicth is sic!
After all these years, I still come back to the monkey lord for easy to apply and musical ideas that unlock my writing!
Stay cool Rob! You're a gem!
I recently shredded some good Phryg Dom on the keys. 🎹 C . And G .
I invented an interesting Progression too. That I've never seen used before.
III, iii, ii, I.
I call it Descending Sus
This was a great lesson! I can always enjoy some Dorje! Is there any chance we'll get a studio recording for "Detritus"? I remember seeing some videos of live versions a few years ago, those nasty riffs stuck with me... would be so cool to hear a full studio version!
That mode very much reminds me of Egyptian type music, even powerslave by Maiden. I didn’t know what it was but I’ve been using it for quite a while! Just need to get the speed up 😅
great vid. I struggled to keep a straight face with rob pronouncing sixth like "sikth" lol
Cool...
This scale sounds amazing if you make the b2 a nat2 😍😍😍
Sickth
Hey Rob, have you had a look at Persian scale with a b2, b5 and 7th?
Woah, didn't see that coming! Great video. I love phrygian and am always looking how to create riffs licks that come as easy as bog standard pentatonic licks.
🤘
Any updates on Criterion Rob?
Interesting. The pentatonic you chose is what I think of as the "Hindu" pentatonic. It works over Mixolydian and was used by George harrison and the Beatgles in their Indian phase. I've always enjoyed jumping between that and the Hirajoshi pentatonic, which works over Phrygian dominant. Now I know they are both in Phrygian dominant and it makes more sense.
Have a try of this Japanee Hirajoshi over Phrygian dominant - 1 , b2 , 4 , 5 , b6 - Tim That will work over minor or major Phrygian. NB. Neither of these pentatonics make a feature of the jump from b2 to 3M, so perhaps I need a third pentatonic to jump to to get the full flavour. That would probably have to be - 1 , b2 , 3 , 4 , 7
What would the tuning be for a 7 string?
Thanks for the lesson, Rob. Once question, you mentioned about candy for the kids, are you raising them vegetarian? Hope that is not too personal to ask. If it is, never mind the Question.
What's the deal with Sterling?
I always wanted to sound like King Diamond.
"Jaws 2" haha 😄😅
The "sikth" is the Mike Tyson note lol
thanks for the poo fodder!
I could sure go for a good poo right about now
