The C Lydian Sus 2 (C-G-D-F#-G-C)
Well, kind of like you, my favorite chords depend on my humor XD However, i really do like extended chords (and modal triads like E locrian (E-F-Bb) too ^^) ^^ Currently i try to work with some pretty cool chords ^^ Here are some progressions i found really cool ^^
(in the key of D minor) Em7 (b5, b9, b13) - Dmadd9 - Gm7(9) - Gm6/9 - A aug - A7(b9) - Bbmaj7(9,#11,13) - Gm6/9/Bb - C#°7 - A7/C# - Dm ^^
(in the key of Cm) Cm - Ab lydian - Dm7(b5)/F - F#°7 - Gsus4 - G7 - Cm ^^
(in the key of C# harmonic minor at first but finishing in C minor) C#m - B#°7 - C#m add9 - D# lyd7 (without it third) - A°/E aug - Emaj7 - E lyd maj7 - A maj7 - G# maj7 - G# maj7add11# - F#°7 - D7/F# - Cm/G - G sus4 - G7(b9) - G7 - Cm9 - Cm ^^
So yeah i love extended chords but i can't choose only one so i say all of them XD
It's that one chord that goes "duhhhhhhhh duh duh duh chug chug"
Phyrigian Dominant Minor Myxolydian Freestyle Major With A Tripple Lindie & A Twist!
First 3 seconds: ... Randy Rhoads.....

RIP Randy 🙏
This is the first guy on UA-cam that's helped me understand this modal shit. I'm so thankful for this human.
Been listening to a lot of Mgła. Exercises in Futility VI is my favorite song by them atm.
Thanks for the heads up bro. It's a breath of fresh aire that metal is alive. Do you like dark tranquility?
@@mrc6032 very much so!
@@zachklepper6340 cool I'm in Houston. If you have any more suggestions that's real like that..I appreciate. I play metal ç to dminor and somewhere a b major is involved. Cool.. let me know some suggestions🤙

ah yes, Belgium and beer. during the quarantine i'm making my own beer (amber) which is currently during fermentation with alcohol percentage of approximatively 7,5%. cheers from Belgium, O powerful Shred
awesome brother, let me know how it turns out
Shred's videos should be required watching for high school teachers - This is how to entertain while conveying knowledge and wisdom.
Shred- Stay at home songs to check out:
Virvum - Illumination (the whole album is amazing but the titular track is exceptionally well composed and very melodically interesting)
Meshuggah - Violent Sleep of Reason, particularly Born in Dissonance, MonstroCity, and Nostrum
Ahab - The Giant ( Funeral doom, Antarctica track is a standout)
Argus - Fading Silver Light (straight Heavy metal/doom but very good compositional devices)
Those are some of my fave tracks/albums/artists, if you listen to any of these please do Virvum, they have pretty incredible compositions.

All these years, I just now realized Buck-Tick's Atom Miraiha No.9 Album has this scale literally everywhere
You've taught me so much guitar bro. I can't wait to buy your lessons
your commitment to imparting your wisdom to others is admirable
Pretty advanced lessons, but loving it. You're awesome.
If you're interested in the Westvleteren 12 but can't get anywhere near the monastery in Belgium, try the St. Bernardus Abt 12. It is very close, some sommeliers even say it is the better Westvleteren, because they used to make beer for the Westvleteren monks and they still have and use the old yeast that was originally used for the Westvleteren. And it is way easier to find, at least here in Germany.
Brutal video as always man this helps me with my guitar playingggg...Saludos desde Colombia!
I've been listening to the stage by avenged sevenfold recently. It isnt my favorite of their work, but I like tha harmonies and rhythms. They seem far more advanced compared to their older material.
Love your channel bro!! Stay safe!
An Epiphone Played Thru To Me Today! : Sir, Your Shredding abilitys are Pure Genious! Thank You Shredmaster Scott! For Your Valuable Time & Killer Guitar Instruction!
Checkout the Rivers of Nihil album - where owls know my name - if you haven’t discovered it already
That's an amazing album
ROCKS!!!...
Right now I'm in quarantine. But I take the time to practice the guitar scales and do plucking exercises.
The last two Nightwish albums, Endless Forms Most Beautiful and Human Nature with Floor Jansen on vocals are a feast for the ears!
Agreed, but there's something to Tuomas' approach (in all eras) that is fresh and still evolving (into endless forms most beautiful *ducks*). It has always been highly hybridised and Floor expanded the blends available.
Nightwish isn't the only band to play with novel fusions, although they've probably perfected many of the techniques.
I have to admit curiosity in what has been learned about what is likely to work, what is always going to be trial and error and what looks likely to be fringe.
I really got into Caligula's horse. Nice chord progressions.
I don’t play at all m just a visual artist but love watching your videos! Shred on!!
I learned on Andre Segovia workbooks.. Classical Maestro. They are old school Spanish Classical.
Hey Shred! Good to know you're doing fine there! And I have to emphasise how cool your apporach is, with diverse and broad viewpoints for musicality, independently of subjective musical taste! Spot on really constructive.
As for some music, I love Triumvirat's Across the waters and Illusions on a double dimple! Bird album from Trace is also spetacular!
Have a good one and stay safe!
i came here for necrophagist sounds kkkk so listen to necrophagist, as the everybody do. 11:00 sounds great!!
Man just found your channel yesterday I fuckin love it.
Phryhgian dominant is a very fun mode to work with, arabic sound pretty much like several of the maqams (extra points if you've fiddled with maqam al-hijaz and its tasty quarter tones) and I found your vid just as I worked on a solo over that same scale.
Seriously ShreddoshiSan! My Eye Is Open But Now I Am Blind
Under Threat's first three albums, Vesperian Sorrow, The Chasm
We like it Here by Snarky Puppy is a live studio album that kicks ass.
Also I’ve been listening to Brian Setzer Orchestra, along with my usual blend of metal.
Maizing master, good job dude
Awesome man
I remember the 1st time hearing Korn's single "Blind" and after that I bought the self titled album with the little girl on the swing set with a tall shadow figure standing over her. I also remember always loving the "Life Is Peachy" album mainly because I used to love that Ice Cube cover of "Wicked" with Deftones frontman Chino Moreno on vocals.....and I agree "Falling Away From Me" was probably the last song from Korn I really liked....I always loved those droning string bends during the chorus of that song it sounded so warped and sinister like music to a horror movie lol I've always been into the dark, sinister/evil sounding songs and solos....like one of my all time favorite guitar solos is the last track off Death's Spiritual Healing album called "Killing Spree" the solos on that sound soo badass! Wish I could find a guitar lesson video on that
4:43 It's amazing!!
This is great! I am having to re-learn things as well learn a DAW...
That was Awesome! 🌀🐺🤘🏻🎼🥵
Beginning of Domination solo is Phrygian Dominance
very good content shred. a hint from my side to mic a cab while playing guitar so we can have better quality of your guitar sound without halo echo from you camera mic. thanks!
The virgin "Every Good Boy Does Fine" vs the CHAD "Every Good Boy Deserves Fudge"
Do you have a video of that pedal point thing you were talking about? I'm interested to know more.
Always excellent Shreducation!
I know most water molecules would continue as is, that's why I wonder how many nearby ones may have once been me after 50 years of pissing.
I love that his fav korn song is "Falling Away From Me". Fun fact about it is Rap Supergroup Slaughterhouse sample the intro on their song "Hammer Dance" idk if you like hip hop but check it out its great. 👍
Scientific philosophy with shred! Great video. And love guitar with the green pick guard! Is it ibanez? Rock on. Be safe🤘
I'd love to hear your breakdown of a Necrophagist track. Advanced Corpse Tumor, Fermented Offal Discharge or Only Ash Remains (the outro is super familiar to something classical)
I've been listening to Galneryus a lot lately. Power Metal is great! Also, Blinded By Fear by At The Gates is always a classic.
Can you explain why the chord progression in the into to an infinite regression by animals as leaders works so well, even with all the chromatic notes? Love the channel btw
Subscribed because you mentioned Leo Brouwer
Plays this amazing arrangement that he programmed, I’m not that good at programming orchestral.... more like I’m not that good at being the opposite of humble. Great vid!
Hey shred, loved the video. Think you could do a video on The tony danza tap dance extravaganza and josh travis' dissonent tapping
Check out Savatage, one of my favorites heavy/prog with a HUGE influence on classical music.
Some songs sugentions:
Strange Wings
Silk and Steel
The Unholy
The Storm
Morphine Child
What about Hall of the mountain king?
@@RealDeathMetalLover It's great too, but I didn't want to overload the list, there's so many good songs.
love savatage and Paul O'neal
did anyone else wonder where they were going when they put carol of the bells on dead winter's dead?..we soon found out : TSO
Mobius, Haken, Caligula's Horse, Opeth, DT
My playlist is Pantera, Lamb of God, and Meshuggah \m/ I'm big into the groove stuff like Pantera and Lamb (Lamb also uses a lot of nasty phrygian dominant which is kickass), and meshuggah is just insane rhythmically
Re: the reader who was asking for Phrygian-inspired melodies, just listen to any good saeta singer from southern Spain, and mimic him or her in guitar. Some overdo it, granted, but they do Phrygian melodies all the time...
Man i love the evil laughter
A great song for staying home and listening to is Chosen Ones by Megadeth.
Thank you for all your bad ass advice I am transforming gravity 💯🤘🎹🎤
Is it weird that I have come around to preferring to play Phrygian Dominant in a 2-4-1&octave pattern? 3 cute little groups of half-steps and a final whole step at the end, really fun to rip around between with slides and quick fingering shifts. Make it an Arabic scale and you've got 4 pairs of half-steps like that, and the 7-8-9 at the top of that scale as you continue up adds some cool chromatic sound, going 2-4-3-4-1&octave. I'm a big fan of 3PS over caged but playing Phrygian Dominant and Arabic like that, allowing my position to walk up the neck, is just so much fun!
Is that a ibanez RG2120? Literally looks exactly like mine. I just can't tell if it has the extra tone knob and switch for the extra bridge pickup.
Best t-shirt in the whole world!!!!!
I recently discovered "Spirituality and Distortion" and "Savage Sinusoid" by Igorrr and I believe they are worthy of your devilish but refined ear drums.
You might want to check out "UGH" or "Queen of the Murder Scene" by The Warning.
They are the new Rush in terms of attitude, work ethic, drive, determination, and goofball humor.
Best live video is at Luminario, CDMX (Mexico City) Where they premiered their concept album. (Their 2nd LP)
Another great video.. I'm sure the Metal Gods are pleased 🤘 👹🤘
Best stay at home album - Igorrr - Spirituality and Distortion
Is that Nightwish / Amorphis on the poster behind you? I love me some Amorphis. Saw them in London last year on their Queen of Time tour, great album, great band. Soilwork were supporting which is another band definitely worth checking out if you don't know them.
Also, I'm now convinced that you got your start as a UA-cam teacher when you wanted to get the complete guitar method by Carcass but got the Carcassi book by mistake. You decided to make a virtue of necessity and the rest, as they say, is theory :)
How do you incorporate those juicy jazz chord progressions in a metal song? For example, instead of just a minor i V VII progression, what about a jazz progression like I iii iv iv/V V ii, but utilized in a song with heavy metal structure? Maybe I just answered my own question with those progressions. Idk exactly. Hopefully I made sense with it though.
Uh dim bb7... er uh power chord brooosky!!! I like the Lydian chord alot... add natural 7.
I kept looking at your straplock bobbing around lol
What's your favourite (let's call it) non-traditional scale? Mine is Lydian Dominant b2 I got it from an old Jeff Loomis lesson when I was in first year university and never forgot it. Has a I7 chord and a bV7 chord. Really cool stuff.
Halls of Dimension - Buckethead
All over the place but still a very solid album.
Definitely check out Ayreon! Lots of unique musical styles, tons of great vocalists, and an epic story that spans multiple albums.
Love Ayreon
Thank you ! I think you helped me to found the answer, I already found 'my' sound, 'my' way to create etc... but I am just 20 or 30 years in the past and forgot to follow present days. So, someone, any GPS of time ?
Hell yeah Shred. KoRn are my boys.
I have the perfect stay at home playlist
METAL
👍
Y'all would like Karnivool - Themata.
SHRED< can you make a youtube video lesson focusing on how the unique voice leading of leo browers chord voice leading is so unique how randy rhoads used that same type of voice leading it has a unique way of voice leading. From a classic Analysis theory back ground what would you say is going on with the voice leading because randy rhoads used it through out the whole dairy of a madman album.
I've been revisiting concerto by cacophony and night wish great show on earth
You should definitely listen to some Unfathomable Ruination!
I suggest you check out “12 foot ninja” some of my fav tracks would be “one hand killing” and “shuriken”
Just add that dominant seventh note on each and every chords that are prevent in the minor scale, and you got some super evil stuffs.
I actually discovered this while just messing around with my fretboard.
I actually listen to a lot of dark shredders like Jason Richardson, Jeff Loomis, Stephan Forte, etc.
Just listen to their sweeps. They sound so different from the generic sweeps that you hear. That's because they don't just sweep on some simple chords. And I always wanted to get that sound. I am learning bit by bit of getting that dark, haunting sound. One of my main guardian who's showing me the way is "Shred Master Scott". HAHAHAHAHAHAHA😈😈😈
I love your CONSTANT respect for Randy Rhoads. Do you like Jake E. Lee as well? I thought Badlands had some top shelf guitar work.
Omg I love your MUA HA HA HA HA HAAAA.^^
Every time LEGEND. So so LEGEND.^^
The scientific principle you are thinking of is that energy cannot be created or destroyed. Matter can indeed, and is very much so, created and destroyed all the time. Electrons and quarks are being created in labs every day for example.
What do you call the main chords that make up the scale?
For real Middle-Eastren Metal: Orphaned Land - Mabool
They are so awesome. Myrath is cool as well (have a poppier sound, though).
Who breaks the “rules”, in metal the best when it comes to structure in songs. Key changes or outright sounds like a different song like with type 0 negative blk#1?
I love Acid Witch
Try Threat Signal, they are a great canadian metal band
Thanks for sharing and shred til death
Listen to the band Bloodshot Dawn. And the band Allegaeon
I'm having trouble converting modes into chords. I really want to record in Locrian and Phrygian, but I don't know how to make it sound like music, and not scale practice.
@@AlfaRomeoQ Thank you!
Shred, I'd recommend Gorguts.
Deadly
If you were at Wacken metal fest is there a band you’d be able to jump on stage and play a song with them cause you already have it under your fingers?
Check out Freebooter by High on fire. My personal favourite from their latest album.
Check out Rivers of Nihil- Where owls know my name
Do chords always sound cooler arpeggiated?
I haven't played for 9 yrs. Just picking back up. I wanna start from scratch, do you have a beginners vid or any suggestions where to start. I don't wanna pick up my old bad habits and I have a fresh clear mind right now😂
Gotta go with Iced Earth Crucible of Man Every song is great on it.
St.dime call the "quick bends" "little hick bends" ... getcha pull rip dime
