  • we fitted flipping numberplates to our van on the front and the rear, altho it's a bit of fun its total legal in the UK but you have to use them on private land like car parks. which would come in handy just to annoy ANPR cameras, but in some countries have massive issues with flipping numberplates so be careful

In Canada we have some toll roads that take a picture of your rear plate and send you a bill in the mail.
I made my plate hinge on the bottom side and it is operated by a door lock solenoid. Just to be safe I'm using a momentary switch that when released puts the plate back to its normal position.
When I'm entering the toll road I push and hold the switch while going under the cameras. Take my finger off the switch and the plate returns to normal. Then I do the same when exiting under the cameras. I used the momentary switch just so I wouldn't forget about the plate being down. The police kind of frown upon those things. It's a lot easier on my motorcycle. I can reach back and cover most of my plate with my hand.
Just to clarify, this is all purely in theory as I would never do anything illegal that would defraud our government of money that they so willingly deserve.

Never known a private “meter maid” to photo the VIN.
Just recently had a successful appeal and not one pic had the VIN, but our appeal (put together myself on behalf of one of my kids) was based on Equalities Act 2011; company then lied in the “further info” part of the appeal. They picked on the wrong guy! No time for that except to threaten criminal action (S2 Fraud after the lie) & civil action under the Equalities Act!

Here in Norway there is actually legal practial use for plates like this. If you have costum plates with names and words in writing on your car you have to change back to normal plates with normal numbering when driving to any other country then Norway, having changable plates like this would be very practial.

  • @DroneHDTV

The only legal loophole on this is I guess is to have the same number plate on both flips with the correct reg but on one version have it partially covered in road dirt to hide a letter. Looks like a honest mistake and you can argue I hate washing number plates and alternate them when one get dirty and illegal. Hence drive into anycar park on dirty plates and leave no trace of your corruption!

Just looked this up in law
HMHO and DLVA are aware of a couple of thousand people have fitted flip plates on to their cars in GB.
It is now not a £1000 fine but a two years in prison if caught and found guilty by a Court (and Jury)
    Quotes -
"Just using them is tantamount to perverting the course of justice."
""Punishment would be immediate custody with sentences ranging from a minimum of three or four months up to two years.
"I would estimate that there could be a few thousand in use on Britain's roads.""
"The National Council for Police Chiefs said that there could be ''movement on legislation in the near future".
But currently it is legal to sell the devices - but drivers can only be punished if they are used to obscure their number plate.
A Home Office spokesman said: ''It is an offence to fail to display or obscure a number plate under the Vehicle Excise and Registration Act 1994.""

    • @pstanyer1

Classic plate would be a Burger van with "ANY 14T" then flips to alternate of "OBO 110X" for an illusive get away.
Both remembered from the 80's era the "ANY 14T" actually being a number plate on a food van.
The other one was a visual joke in the VIZ comic.
Both follow the UK layout for the 80's era though.

    Update 01 November 2022 -
Amazon has now banned the sale of - flip reg plate holders and curtained reg plates holders.
The police also reinforced in a statement that it is an offence to have these plate holder kits fitted to your car, van, or truck while driving on the public roads, and you will get a FPN with points, they also have the power to seize your car as it would fail a MOT for these modifications, it could also invalidate your insurance as have modifications that not been declared on your insurance = more points and another FPN fine.

I think the problem here is. Shopping centre car parks. Because they're classed as a public place during operating hours, road traffic rules apply. For example its still illegal to use your phone while in asda car park driving around. So you couldn't flip them in a car park to dodge a car park fine

    • @phoenixxavier9615
      @phoenixxavier9615 Рік тому +1

Any car park (or any private property) that has any lines or other road type markings (such as you see in multi storey car parks) are classed as the public highway, even though they are not dedicated highways or public highways, regardless of the fact they are actually private property. In short, if the car park has markings, UK highway laws applies. If the car park is gravel or grass, then UK highway laws do not apply.

Not judging - but as a former criminal barrister I have a couple of points. Firstly, it's been a while since I've looked at road traffic legislation but I'll be amazed if this doesn't infringe them somewhere. The idea you can display a false plate and not infringe the law when there are multiple regs even about size of lettering and so on is concerning. More importantly, there is an argument that the driver could be attempting to pervert the course of justice if used to avoid a criminal penalty such as a speeding fine, and that carries a prison term if convicted. Just my observations.

But when a business or organisation call out the police the police actually arrive then find out its a civil matter after squabbling.... wasting police time and the hasle of the member of the public , and a false claim been made by such business or organisation upon the memeber of the public due to an employee not knowing the law and juristictions of the law. GDPR seems a fashionalable know it all, shame these employees have never read the GDPR or DPA2018 papers on the subject, but waffle on myths and incorrect information. So does the police. DPA2018 does state the employer has to provide to all employees basic GDPR knowledge. It seems these employers are failing quality training. The Police should invoice their time to such business or organistations for false callout as its a civil matter not criminal and the police where called out of false information given by an employee. Fire and Rescue can charge for false callouts at their discretion so why not the police ?

    11:25 I disagree.
It may be lawful to have them fitted.
But it is unlawful to use them
The police would thus proberly would or not get you on a non valid reg plate showing on a public area / road. Now upto nine points and £2700 fine ( new 2022 fine matrix update ).
But the police would proberly nick you for having a device that gives a " punitive advantages " which has no other use than to conceal if needed (and I said if) , and used to hide the reg plate to avoid detection. Upto 12 points and £4700 fine (new 2022 fine matrix update).
A speed laser lidar detection sensor is lawful to own, but not lawful to have one fitted in your vechicle. But a GPS database version is lawful to own and use. ie Google maps of fixed and non fixed camera, SPARC, SPECs. Just a laser lidar live sensor is not lawful to use, but lawful to own.
Basically, going tooled up, regardless if you going to use it or not.... also called in law " punitive advantages. "
So in all I would say the police would nick you on something in law if you used a flip plate.
Also note reg plates have to be the BSI type, else that be unlawful with a £1000 fine. And from 2022 BSI reg plates have to have printed on them who made them.
Show plates are unlawful so is non BSI fonts, and so it moving spacing of letters to make words, - three points and £1000 fine.

Please be careful about using this. The Road Traffic Act applies not only to roads but also to public spaces to which the public have access.
This would include any private road or car park that is not gated. Case law holds that even a caravan site which had its gates open at the time was a public space and the driver convicted of numerous offences including no license and no insurance and dangerous driving. Being in a motorway service area is considered to be on the public highway. You may get away with some police officers not wishing to deal but certainly Traffic Officers (who are the ones likely to be on motorway services) will take a very dim view as they would suspect you may use it for speed cameras.
As an aside this would have landed you liable to arrest and criminal conviction 15 years ago when Sec25 of the Theft act was changed from Having articles for use in any burglary theft or cheat, to just burglary or theft.
