I liked watching this because nucanoe is making the design better and Blake knows exactly what he is talking about. The parts look really well built and the design has been refined and is adjustable and functional. Good job.
Great video Chad I'm planning on setting up my F12 with the Pivot Drive hopefully next season. I like to paddle, but for tournaments all the Hobies get way out ahead of time and I don't often get the time to prefish like they do. So I really feel it would give me a little help. This thing is amazing and Blake and Nucanoes R&D team have really knocked it out of the park. You and Kristie have a Great Thanksgiving. God bless and keep casting my friend.
How do you remove weeds on prop if it is located at the back of the boat. Can you crawl back there and pull them off with the prop pulled up or does lifting the prop remove most weeds? Thanks.
It would be great to see the Mrs using it. Also, looks like the drive would benefit from a metal weed/rock guard for the plastic prop if you hit something while in reverse
sold my 13.5 titan waiting on this drive to come out for the frontier 12 or pursuit not sure which yet. The fact you can either run the pedals or the xi5 motor set up or paddle is gonna be a game changer.
good stuff Chad, I like the concept. lets say you hit a stump and the drive disconnects...how easily will it reconnect in the water? also would there be a way to run the cables on the inside of a kayak instead of having the entire cable drive system available for stray hooks to catch? good to see some videos popping up from you again! keep em coming and I hope you and your family are doing well!
Looks like it has a lot of moving parts to break and need replacing when in the outdoors... love the design of the nucanoe... but it’s probably better off being paddled or trolling motored... can’t beat the Native pedal drive. Simple and solid.
Good video, the kick up feature is nice. One worry with most props is backing into a stump below the water line. Has Nucanoe tested for this? How difficult is it to replace a propeller? Will props be inexpensive (spare)
I've currently got a Slayer Propel and Nucanoe Pursuit with a KD Trolling Motor setup. This new drive may be exactly what I'm looking for. I'm not a fan of tournament fishing in my Slayer and cant use my motor in local tournaments.
i think the most asked question should be how long will it last? belts on cars wear out all the time, so what about when the belts on this drive system go? can you easily replace them yourself? or are you having to buy a whole new system? and what about grass or lily pads? won't they probably stick in the prop and belts? other than that, ive looked at A LOT of kayaks offering a pedal drive system, so far vibe has been my favorite but they don't have a reversible drive, then i saw the nucanoe design and loved it. just wonder how long the drives will hold up.
Thanks so much for posting this! Great information. I'm considering getting a kayak for the first time and am favoring a Nucanoe Frontier. I like having this as an option. However, I will be cartopping this, which brings up 2 things: does the rudder control sticking up like that hinder the cartopping (as far as I can tell, the kayak should be loaded upside down) and does the mount on the back block the hole used for the trolley wheels? Also, the options available for a Nucanoe for propulsion are one of the things that attract me to this kayak. However, once I get a pivot drive, is that all that can mount on the back? that plate looks different to me than the other transom mounts - am I locked in to the pivot drive (without unscrewing the mounts) once it's installed?
Hello, really good video! I’m a bigger guy 6’3 three hundred plus, looking to get into kayak fishing I have been told many different models from different people this model hobie and what not. You seem straight forward what model or models do you recommend looking at an why? Thanks in advance for recommendations!
What is the draft on it, price, release date , looks good just not sure yet, also interested in the pedalprop for my flint as i have spoken to that guy about it. Pivot drive or pedalprop not sure what way i'm going yet, I also would consider a pelican c 100 with the fin pedals as you can get pretty much zero draft with the fin style drives....holy cow to many decisions....lol
Nash Guy Within the next couple of months and we don't have an official MSRP yet, as there are still production details and refinements in the works but we hope to have that released soon! Draft depths vary based upon model but as a rule of thumb appx 8-10"
E Hogsed We are hoping within the next couple of months. Our greatest goal is to have it refined to the highest quality, efficiency and production capacity before it hits the stores. So far so good!
That stern drive looks fragile compared to other drives, plus it looks kinda like your drive cable will break. Ive had this happen on a smaller drive before
Test of time?? I'd like to see the test of salt water with 6 months of use in that open frame design of the pedal drive mount. While it's a rubber belt drive, salt will build up everywhere within the internals. Should be closed design to give it some protection from the elements, not too mention, accidental mishaps during storage or transport.
Its absolutely better than a boat and i have both a boat and multiple kayaks, the boat has sat in the driveway sense Oct of 2017. There is nothing better than being eye level with a fish thats blowing up a top water lure.
Brandon Huggins it’s really a personal preference. I think so, but I don’t bash another way of fishing. I just think it is one of those things that offers more versatility for me for places that I fish and where I can go.
@@jmediditagn01 Pull the cord to lift it out of the water and giver a couple of spins, most of the crap will fly off, somebody that has the original pro-ped told me thats all he does.
I car top gunwhales down , screwing anything into the boat is just not an option for me as i have to be able to remove everything which would result in stripped holes..
The screws will go into threaded inserts on 2019 Flint & Pursuit models, and utilize existing inserts on the Frontier. No screwing directly into the hull!
@@nucanoe I have the 2018 flint , no threaded inserts , def not buying another flint just to adapt for the pedal drive...lol May have to go with the other options i was looking at....thanks.

This might be the best looking drive system ever! I can't wait to see where this product goes once it's the consumers and DIYers hands.
got to say very impressive . love how quite it is .. and wife likes how you ask and cover all the questions .
Two of my favorite guys! Thanks

Hooked On Jesus Kayak Angler with Dennis Shields thanks and Happy Thanksgiving to you as well.
I'm wondering how long before Aliex tries to install one on a Bonafide ;-D

Just one more reason I'm glad I went with the Flint. I hope this becomes available in the next couple months.

Man I have my heart set on a Frontier 12 for my next kayak hope the peddle system teams up with that yak too !
yes it will!
Chad!!!! We need price and dates of release my friend
Another video I watched said $2800
Can't wait to get mine

Billy S This system is designed to break away under stress than re-engage when pedaled! Very simple

I love my pivot drives I have them on both of our flints
Sure wish I could put something like this on one of the Bonafide Kayaks like maybe the new RS117
Totally agree. Bonafide should team with an existing pedal drive system and move on it.
I think Aliex already put a native pedal drive on a bonafide....lol

Haha, “it’s more comfortable and I haven’t used it”. Take that to the bank! I would like to see it on the water. Thanks for the info video
Scott Oberle I said repeatedly that I haven’t used it. But, I know a higher seat is more comfortable just from experience and common sense.
I already ordered the gulf coast frontier 12

This is way too cool
Hey Chad thanks for the review! Will it work in saltwater or is there too much chance of corrosion? Thanks in advance!

What if you quickly come up on shallow water?? You have to get out of the yak to pull the motor pins out
Fishy Fingers nope

In the video it shows it has a quick pull cord and a breakaway clip as a backup. Did u watch the video?

NuCanoe this looks like it will be adaptable to other kayaks. So awesome that nucanoe is coming up with this
I wonder how well that flex drive is gonna function when the rear tank well area is full with a crate and a cooler or other various items.
That stern drive looks fragile compared to other drives, plus it looks kinda like your drive cable will break. Ive had this happen on a smaller drive before
#NuCanoe,
Impressive upgrades from the original version, it looks like this one may stand the test of time??

@@chrism8013 I'm fairly optimistic about it. With the belt drives on the pedals being open I can hose them off easily after a salt water day.
Nice thing about Nucanoe is free parts for life.
Can you raise the trolling motor up, if you come in to shallow water
I wanna shoehorn one onto my bonafied 127. HA HA!!
Is kayak fishing for fun than fishing on a boat? Is it worth buying a kayak vs a 2 person canoe or small boat?

Can you hook up a drill to the cable?
Can the pivot drive change its depth?
I don’t think so, I think only the head and upper portion of the drive actually pivots
Honest question, not hating. What happens when something gets tangled in the propeller?
daniel3484 glorious part of it being easy to paddle. Paddle to shore clean it and continue.
@@jmediditagn01 Pull the cord to lift it out of the water and giver a couple of spins, most of the crap will fly off, somebody that has the original pro-ped told me thats all he does.
As easy as retracting and giving it a couple of spins forward and back! The only thing we've seen that has been a pain is braid or rope

Does this pedalndrive fits or can it be adapted to any other Kayak, inowned Ascend 128t and A pelican Catch 120
You remind me of an army buddy from lufkin Texas.
To bad they aren’t going to make a retro kit for the nucanoe classic 12
Downfall of this is weeds will get stuck to it. You'll have to go to the back of the prop to take it off
I like it
LETS SEE MORE OF THE PRODUCT AND LESS OF YOU,.
Thanks for the feedback. 😜😌
its to bad the drive system alone is $1350 not including the $1200+ Kayak. It seems to be a pretty interesting design however.
