Why did Episode Two take so long to release? A combination of being a full time university student, mental health problems and an issue with a commission that I may make a video on at a later date. How long is Episode Two? Episode Two is around 13 minutes long (not including the credits). Why is Episode Two shorter than Episode One? The episode came to a natural stopping point at the 13 minute mark. Plus, the longer the episode, the longer it takes to release. Will there be an Episode Three I'm planning on it. When will Episode Three release? It's too hard to say for sure. Episode Two was originally planned for November 2021 at the very latest, and we all know how that went. Currently, my aim is late Q2 or early Q3. Truthfully, who knows though. Have you started Episode Three yet? Yes, I started in January 2022 Will the episodes be compiled into a movie once the series is over? Yes, the episodes will be re-edited into a feature length film once complete. This will mean reordering sections and cutting out shots where necessary to best suit the flow of a feature instead of a series
First off, congrats on this. Amazing effort, and I know how much work and time it takes to make one of these happen when you're essentially a one-man studio. That being said, I do have a fair bit of criticism on this, that I hope will help you improve or notice things that might have slipped past you. I do not consider myself an expert on any of these subjects in the slightest. Just coming from a very similar kind of content I think I might have some valuable insight. The letterbox. Please get rid of it. Either render your project from S2FM at an anamorphic aspect ratio or export from your video editing software cropped to your final frame size. There's no good reason to have black bars on the top and bottom of your video. Your choice of lens distortion is interesting to me, and sticks out a bit too much. Instead of the barrel distortion you'd see on a real life anamorphic lense this seems to go inverted, further stretching the edges of the frame. I might just not be familiar with a specific kind of lens you're trying to imitate. Very subjective opinion, but I'd reserve lens flares to moments when they truly shine, like 4:10 and 7:10. Those look gorgeous. In other places I found them to be unnecessary additions. Your lighting could use some work in places. 4:47 There's a very noticeable cutoff on the fog volume, that I know is part of the default map, but from the angle you chose it's distracting. In many of your shots half of the subject is bathed in light while the other half is almost pitch-black like at 4:50. Could use some fill lights in these situations. 6:34 The blue light from the multitool is way, way too bright and big for my taste. I get stylized lighting, but that's a small, dim screen. 12:37 Same deal with the muzzle flash. If you look at a real-life example they're nowhere near this big. But then again, it's a stylistic choice. I amp them up as well in my projects just not to this degree. From 8:00 to 8:10 there's a very nasty jitter in the movement of the camera. I don't know if this is your export screwing something up or the shutter speed, but It's something that would definitely need some fixing. 12:34 an un-fired bullet is ejected from the gun instead of a shell casing. I think that's all off the top of my head. I wanna see you continue and improve on this project and I'll sure as hell be here for the entire thing.
Thank you so much for your kind words. I consider your content to be some of the best in the community, so coming from you that means an absolutely enormous amount. Commenting on some of your points: For the lens distortion, I was going for a reversed anemorphic lens, instead of a regular one. I might turn the effect down a bit in future, the main problem is I didn't alter the degree based on my lens size, something I have now learnt fixes the distracting problem on any shot other than 35mm. The reason for the letter box is a problem with UA-cam. I do render without the black bars out of SFM, but UA-cam (at the last time I checked) only supports 16:9 and 2:1 aspect ratios if you want to use end screens, so I have to render from Premiere at a 2:1 aspect ratio. The vol just above the train was a concois choice to create the look of haze/heat/dust around the train, though in heinsite it could have done with some tuning with a lower intensity. I very much see how it isn't clear and comes off as distracting. The muzzle flash was definitely unrealistic, but I chose to amp it up considerably to more clearly show that Alyx was using it as a source of light in the dark train. I am yet to fix the jitter, and ran out of time on this project. I absolutely hate it, and will be fixing in this episode when I compile it into the full film. As for everything else, I completely agree and will take it on board with future projects! Once again, I really appreciate the criticism, it is going to help a huge amount when working on the quality of my videos. I am genuinely honored to know that you are interested in the series!
@@HALFPEEPS Thank you! Very glad and humbled to hear that. Ah I see. It might have been just that I'm not familiar with this distortion + the chroma aberration combined kept me distracted. I'm sure some people feel the same way about my way of doing it as well. Oh yeah, I completely forgot about that as I never do end screens myself. Regardless, I think a better viewing experience far outweighs end screens. But that really is just my personal take on the matter. Yeah, that muzzle flash definitely felt much more deliberate than the multitool for instance. It wasn't really a problem, I'm just a nitpicky bastard, haha. Perhaps a wider angle could've shown this dark/light contrast more as Alyx shoots away at the zombies, but I know how your initial ideas sometimes have to be twisted because of this or that limiting factor in SFM. Glad to hear it's on the list of things to fix. I'm still playing around with shutter speeds myself to find one that works almost everywhere. 0.170 Is my current 'go-to' instead of the default 0.208 I think? Of course. You're one of the very, very few on this platform that genuinely care about the deeper stories of these games and wants to create serious, quality content. I can only endorse your work. Can't wait to see your next project!
The trained part of me wanted to scream at her not to stroll into a place called "the quarantine zone" without any PPE. There's a reason they call it that, and I can see spores and who knows what else floating through the air. If superhuman soldiers wear respirators in there you probably should too
Ladies and gentlemen, graphics have gotten so realistic we can now see the pores and facial features on people's faces in games/animations. That's some real innovation throughout the history of games/animations.
I discovered this series a short time ago. I'm really impressed with the quality of the images and the animation. The staging and soundtrack are truly amazing. We are really immersed in the HALF Life universe. My only regret: it's too short... I await the sequel with great anticipation. Thank you for this discovery. Yannick. France.
this was very well done, I cant wait to see more I can tell the only thing holding you back, is their not so great Alyx model almost everything else is perfect
I've played through Alyx multiple times and watched one full playthrough and I'm still on the edge of my seat watching these. Excellent work! Valve, I know you're watching this. Give us more so this guy can make them into movies.
If there actually comes a HL movie they HAVE TO take Zendaya as actor for alyx. Everything else is illegal, cause zendaya has the right look and would do an amazing job.
This is some really solid work! I believe the best way to adapt video games to film is inside the game themselves! Not gonna lie, when I first played HLA I thought long and hard about doing this exact same thing. After seeing how good your work has been so far I'm glad I went a different direction because this is exactly what I wanted all along!
I was also thinking about making a HL: Alyx series for my channel but wasn't sure how to put Alyx into the series. What you've done is really impressive!
Me alegro demasiado que una persona como usted, haya hecho esta belleza de arte y tienes mi apoyo en total, sigue adelante y no te rindas, Eres el mejor! Saludos desde Perú!
the lighting looks off, i don't know if it's something you did in the map or if it's something done in post. Alyx's skin tone looks way to read in most scenes, and also that's not counting the times where i could barely see her face because of the lighting it's one thing to add tons of contrast to your shots but when it starts to obstruct the important elements of a shot it's too much, i think a good rule of thumb is to not have the camera facing a lightsource, have alyx face the lightsource instead, or have said light over half of her face, but you have to keep the light angles in mind either way
I have heard and know that UA-cam’s algorithms can be a pain getting through to get views. Personally, I would do some research into this, if you haven’t already, to get your videos on the front of people’s feed. As for me, you’re on the front of my feed. :-)
I made a post on steam and got no answers. I try to export my animations, and it does not load the lighting and particles properly. The particles are frozen because I don't know how to loop them, without placing them repeatedly. I wanted to ask you because you seem very experienced with S2FM.
This is great direction! Needs a little better sound editing though. The music and effects overtake the dialogue, and the timing feels off in a few places.
Honestly...the first one was way better. In this one seems like you wanted to do it much more "artistic" or personal (for example the sequence of the gun and how you abuse of slow motion). Too many effects, movement on certain shots...all of that to show absolutely nothing. This chapter barely covers the first 5-10 minutes of chapter 2 while the first chapter covered the whole first chapter of the game. Yes, it lasts the same, but the content shows basically nothing about the story. it's an empty chapter. The first chapter was much more humble, but also much better

guys you should cooperate together in the future your videos on your both youtube channels are fine art ! keep on
Jesus, everything about your animation is just insane. I'm hyped for this!
I love the fact of how you are building this like an actual tv series with the g-man introduction, keep the good work lad!
The effort you put into this animation is incredible well done.
Thank you so much!!
@@HALFPEEPS Can you please share info on how many cameras and what models they were for the ipisoftware mocap session?
Thank you so much in advance!
If Valve made movies, you'd definitely be asked to join their team!
I wish!
There’s another called “TheParryGod” his videos are as incredible as this guys.
The quality in this one has vastly improved.

Fantastic work, Half Peeps! It really is incredible!
Good work on the camera angles and travelling, it really gived the 3d point of view for those that couldn't play the game in VR
Hurray!!! I've been waiting for this animation for a very long time! Already so soon...
slo close, yet so far away
2 weeks...

This... This is amazing! I didn't close my jaw while watching. I received a very strong delight! And yes, thanks for the subtitles)
Sorry I was late. But wow, it might be celebrating 2 years of HL: Alyx!
This is awesome! I like how you integrate the G-Man and the last scene was epic
The terminal animation is insane! Nice work

You are an SFM magician.

I love this but once again everytime Alyx's face is shown I am reminded how badly Valve botched her face and bogged she looks.

This was great but c'mon guys... 25% of it was titles and recap. There are better places to put your resources.
Titles and recap don't use that much in resources. They made no difference to the length or quality of the rest of the episode, don't worry.
